Running Process - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I had a look at whats running after a re-boot:

Other them Display brightness, Thumb Keyboard, Google Services and Gallery, why are the others running? I imagine that secphone and Samsung Push Service are required to make the phone work and have my mail pushed. Gps Navigator shows restarting all the time until I turn in on then goes in process. What of those should be frozed as I dont use them at leased for now unless other app are using them.

Those are system apps which are meant to be run by default. If you close most of them, your phone might not function properly like lets say when you get an email or a message, the notification will not be shown if they are force stopped.
Yes, I agree, some apps like Samsung Apps, Maps...etc keep running when you hardly use them.
If its still a pain for u to have these apps running, Use Root Explorer to freeze/Uninstall those apps or just add ".bak" extension to the apk incase if you will ever need these apps.

I maybe the last to know this battery saver tip

If I'm the last to know you can make fun of me. Just read in my Get Started user guide if you hit the back button instead of the home button it turns the app off.
That's why I always seem to have several apps running
I hit home a lot, now I know
Enjoying my 3vo
in android the background processes barely touch the battery it's managed well and you don't have to worry about them being open.

Bwahahahahahahah!!!!
With that out of the way, there are some really poorly coded apps that kill the battery even if it's not doing anything in the background. Even if the app does not, it takes away available memory, though it's usually not that much.
P.S. The first line is a joke .
any app that you can close with the back button(android has always done this as far as i know) you can also close in the task manager
but ive tested. not all apps close with the back button(still shows as running in Applications). probably something the dev of the app needs to allow

[Q] Why 'os services' is stealing my data?

Hi, I'm just wondering why os services is draining my data so much (I know that mb of data is nothing but this thing is annoying)? I'm using Droidwall which allows network connection only for GG (national communicator) and Opera.

Think that os services includes things like sync so it will use a bit of data, its not 'stealing' it.
Well, they do send some info. The kernel and os send marketing info to millenialmedia's IP for target adds and several other IP (check Droidwall's Log and enjoy a paranoid experience tracking the Ips with google)

yes it does.. if you dont want this to happen.
swtich off the auto sync.. and use pdroid patch and remove network access to the apps that you do not want to access your internet

stop startup applications

Is there any way to stop some applications from starting on system startup ? I means not killing them. just don't let them to start.

this depends on what applications they are, some need to start for the phone to work properly
Rom Toolbox Pro has a feature to "enable" or "disable" startup programs and/or apps. For obvious reasons, you'll need to be rooted.

The autostarts app works well for me as a dedicated app. But yes heed caution at disabling system apps. Some are important.

There is this tool called Android Assistant https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advancedprocessmanager which is not a root tool, but can still block apps during startup.

What Happened to Tasks (Codename Ice Cubes)?

Hello,
Anyone knows an app alternative to Tasks 1.3.4? I am still using it but developers stopped updating it.

The best tasks app that ever was, I'm starting to have issues, Google is blocking on one phone and I can't add new lists on others. Veg disappointing
@HenryHvPa What do you not like about Google Tasks?
I like the ability to quickly enter, indent, move multiple items too other lists, without entering dates or any other extra data
The kiss principle..keep it simple

Google made some changes how apps access Google Account. I remember going to security tab and creating new password for every app separately. Did you try it? I don't remember why I didn't continue with it.

Recover a -deleted- app

So I removed the Galaxy Store app from my phone to test and see if I could reinstall it and use it as user app, that doesn't seem to be the case since it constantly crashes every time I open it
I don't really care that much about the app since the only thing I'm missing is the ability to download other fonts, but it's a bit awkward when I hit download more fonts and all I get is an App Manager screen.
So, is there any way I can maybe restore this app or getting the apk to work without having to reflash this thing yet again? Maybe an alternative app I can use that the system can recognize and get fonts from or anything of the sort?
bump
btw tried moving it to the sytem apps folder to see if that made a difference
nope
