Hallo everyone!
First of all - I got myself a smartphone just yesterday for the first time ever, so yes.. I'm even less than a Noob.. you can call me noob^2..
Second: i searched the forum but I did not find a similar topic. Either there is no similar thread yet, or I don't know how to use the Forum search engine properly.. If so, please excuse!
I have a SGS2 i9100 (not G) and android 4.0.3. Not rooted (don't know yet how to so..)
I would like to replace my ipod with the SGS2, but the soundquality is very poor. I would like do connect the phone to an usb DAC (fiio E7 for example), but i read that it is not possible to bypass the internal crap yamaha-DSP. So is there any possibility, hack, or whatever, to send the pure, unprocessed mp3 data to the DAC via USB OTG??
Thank you a LOT!
Not currently possible with the SGS2 & highly unlikely to ever be. Devs who have been asked to have a look at it have all gone 'Nup' because of Samsung's proprietary/closed source drivers & so on. To give you an idea of what devs are up against/why nobody will tackle this, read this post.
Only way it will ever happen is if you code it yourself, or a dev with a lot of time on their hands (there aren't really any of these; the development they do now is done in their spare time & on top of the jobs they have) who actually wants to use this themselves.
Don't ditch your iPod.

Well, that's a pitty!
I read somewhere that android 4.1. (Jelly Bean) supports that USB audio out capability. Is that true, and does that mean, that if I could install jelly bean on the s2, I could use usb audio?
Another, probably stupid, question. Is it possible to install the 'not touchwized' - original - version of android on the s2? Would that make usb audio work, or is it a matter of hardware and drivers??
Thak you for your reply!
Hardware & drivers. Won't work no matter what. Unless a dev makes it work as I said in my previous post.
So right now, no one is trying to make the s2 work..? Would donate if someone succeeds..!
What about the Galaxy nexus phone and about the Galaxy s3? Do these phones support usb audio, even though they are from samsung?
1) No, offering money won't make any difference. There have been threads made in General where people have pledged differing amounts of money; in one thread I offered $20, all up maybe 6-7 people pledged money totaling around $150 to get it working. No devs took up the offer. Seriously, this is something that is very difficult & time consuming to get working, it's not simple like some people seem to think. It just isn't going to happen. Money isn't the issue, the issue is time and/or a desire on the part of a dev to use this feature themselves. No dev so far has had either of those nor a desire to get this working.
The fact it doesn't work on stock roms should tell you something.
2) You're asking in the wrong place, ask in the forums for those phones.

Hi guys,
I still possible to make SGS2 unlock the phone as soon as i enter the right pin code on lock screen, without having to press the OK button down the bottom?
Doubt it, asthe ability to lock the sim card be too great. Example: you make a mistake on the last digit. 2 attempts left. You have taken a couple of beers. Ops. Sim Locked
Has anyone found a solution to this??
I've been customizing my phone every day for who knows how long, little by little to get it just how i like it, and this 'OK' button is annoying. VERY annoying. Though, I need a PIN on my phone, and 99.99%of the apps on the market have horrible horrible designs. No offence, but I'd rather stay with the android look. All of the thread's I've found have either told someone to use a third-party app, or use CM10. Well, someone who has almost all of their information on their phone can't afford to install this, seeing as it wipes your entire phone, and for a PIN, that's unnecessary. I don't know what roms are, same with roms. I like the way the touchwiz UI looks on my E4GT(I have fk09 leak installed, recently got this phone, and barely had anything on it). I like the way JB looks with touchwiz way more than it did on ICS(looked horrid).
TL;DR
If someone can find a fix to this, without any third party launchers, or horrible-looking apps, that would be great. If you give a rom, explain how to install it. Thanks in advance.
The rom SlimBean has this feature which I use. It can be found in the lock screen settings.

I'm going to preempt the inevitable question that's going to come following Drexciya's excellent suggestion to use Slim if you want this feature (tick quick unlock in settings/interface/lock screen/screen security).
How do you install it ? Read the first page of the Slim thread in Development. Easy.

Thanks for an answer, but AFAIK, FK09 has no recovery mod, which i didn't realize, and unless someone kniws of one that supports the build,pr whatever, I can't load any mods.. Also, links to specefic topics help a lot..
And you're unable to go to the Development section & look for the Slim Bean thread like everyone else here why exactly ? (using the XDA app on your phone & being too lazy don't count as valid answers).
Re: whatever you're running now that has no recovery, looks like you're going to have to flash something else; another rom that has CWRecovery or at the very least temporary CWRecovery (which will disappear after you reboot) if you want to flash Slim. I don't believe there's an Odin version.

No, I'm not being lazy, I simply dont know where to look. Not sure if you could tell, t I'm new here, and I'm not used to this. Did you expect me to just know where EVERYTHING is? I found this thread after wasting my entire evening looking for a solution, and found this thread. I signed up specefically for this purpose. I was trying to ask for a link without looking too unappreciative, but rhatbobvoliously didn't help. And I don't use an xda app, nor do I intend to.

I really don't know how to do this.. Is there a thread for this? I'll just google it.. Thanks anyways.
My point was (is) I don't have a link. If I want to get you a link, I'd go to Development (by navigating the site; not exactly a new fandangled web thingy) & find the thread, come back here & post the link. You're perfectly capable of doing this yourself, yet you expect me to that ?
That speaks volumes about the people who seem to visit here these days. They want everything served up to them on a silver platter with a minimum or no effort on their own part.
Also, from his first post in this thread, he's an Epic 4g Touch user. Any ROM suggestions he gets here are likely to be i9100 ROMs.

And this shows that some people who find themselves comfortable here can't read. I obviously don't know how to get to development, or how to navigate the forums. I don't inderatand how it takes any more explaination that I DON'T KNOW where to look. Get around looking like a smart allic, and actually take the time to help people around. What are you, 14? You act like it, as everyone is supposed to know everything on a site for developers. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I know nothing about these things. I didn't do the rooting, soneone else did, so stop expecting everyone knows as much about this forum, or everything you are, because they don't. As far as I know, I didn't come here to argue with someone I don't even know, who thinks they're an internet genious, I came here for support. A link is the least of your problems if you think I know where it is. If you don't want to, don't do it, that's simple, just don't do it. Just don't reply, and save yourself the embarassment, because you just made the forums seem like ignorant children with conputers, who care more about criticising people than anything.

Aren't they both Galaxy SII's? I would think they did the same, and these roms run the same.. Does that mean that there are no rom for the epic 4g touch? If not, is there a way around this without rom?

Clearly you don't know you're in the wrong place anyways.
Yes, they are both Galaxy SII's. They are different, however, since yours (Epic 4g Touch) is a phone designed to work on Sprint's CDMA network. That phone has a separate forum. There are plenty of ROMs for that device in its forum.
The device this forum is for (GT-I9100) is a GSM phone that won't even work on Sprint's network. So no, ROMs for this phone won't work on your phone.

Thank you, for clearing this up
Lamenting over my hard-bricked SGP 4.0, a pretty naive thought occurred to me, that is, what if the so-called internal SD card really is a "card" and can be replaced? Of course not, but I had to see it myself, so I just disassembled it and took some photos of the internals. SGP 4.0 US is pretty easy to disassemble, I guess, and here are a few photos (with S/N airbrushed). My hardware assembly experience is back in early 90s, so it won't apply to modern day assembly technologies at all, but it looks like the Toshiba is the internal SD memory chip (wonder why Samsung uses Toshiba flash chip for its memory?). I didn't peel off the sticker, but the chip under the white sticker looks like the CPU. Near the presumably Toshiba flash chip, there does seem to be a socket for an external programmer, so I guess if I can get this to a service center (like in Korea), I guess they might be able to reflash the internal flash memory chip using their programmer device, but it's purely my totally naive imagination. Anyone have some comments? Anyway, enjoy!
Also, I didn't want to start another thread for this, but I'm wondering if anyone could point me to the right direction about the ICS port going on in the development board for SGP 5.0 US? I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but I'm finding that the dialer is missing there (is it that ICS totally is without a dialer? I doubt so), and seeing a player like SGP as a VoIP device, I think it's still important to still have a dialer. I can't yet post a question there as a noob, so I'm wondering if someone could see this and convey this comment to the developers there. I'd also love to try tinkering with the sources, build the rom image and try those with my SGPs. I'll probably first try to do it with ambrice's CM7 for SGP 5.0 US, and if I can get any assistance or advice from anyone, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for all your great work!
Nice post! But sorry to hear that your player got hard bricked.
I have noticed that you have both versions if the players. If you truly have no use for your 4.0 anymore, maybe you could consider donating it to a dev who specializes in hardware (like adamoutler or someone else?)? I'm sure he or someone else could make good use of your device, and maybe possibly even prevent your situation from happening to someone else in the future with an unbrickable mod. Or maybe some experienced dev could unbrick it and come help with the ics progress... We certainly do need all the devs we can get.
Again, this is just a suggestion; I hope I didn't sound selfish or anything.

I'd be happy to follow your suggestion (and you don't sound selfish at all), but unfortunately the device is not my personal property, not at my disposal... Sorry... Maybe I should revive my old-days hardware experience and try to make some contribution with this... Thanks.
Ive just ordered a smart dock for my S3 so that I can use it with my TV, wireless air mouse, hard drive and wireless xbox controller.
Now the final thing I want to do is run XBMC for PVR software, but cannot find a definitive answer about a tuner that will work with my S3.
Im a new user so I cant link to the one I have but its ebay item number 200828623654. Its made for an android powered smart box but will it work with the s3 aswell.
Or does anyone know of any that will work.
Cheers
Rich
Have I done something wrong in my post or is it just that nobody knows the answer?
All I can find through loads of google searches are a couple of expensive tuners that only work with their own inbuilt mini aerials and others that will connect to an outdoor aerial via a coax cable but they are made for specific android smart tv boxes.
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide.

Im happy if a mod thinks its appropriate to be moved to accessories.
I am aware it is a developers forum and I was at no point demanding anyone "f***g fix my phone". The use of TV tuners with the Galaxy S3 would be a development of the phone as it is not something that it was initially designed to do and would allow people to make better use of their devices.
I was just making sure that I had not done anything wrong in the way I had posted my question and to make it clear that I had searched around for an answer already for a couple of days myself as I know people get annoyed when noobs post questions without bothering to look for themselves.

I have a stock new UK GT-S5830i, unmodded, standard Samsung v2.3.6. I'd have rooted and upgraded it anyway (Jelly blast? MindCr? Something else?) but I hit an unexpected Bluetooth problem while readying it for rooting/CWM.
Sometimes I find a bluetooth keyboard useful (**). I tried to pair it (***) to my new 5830i - it's detected but I get the message "Sorry, but HID device is not supported on this phone". I'm guessing it's an OS limitation rather than a hardware one, it's physically detected, and Android changelog says that ICS and Jelly Bean both improve Bluetooth HID device support. But I'm not sure. Advice appreciated before I spend more money!
If it's an OS limitation will upgrading to a 4.x ROM solve this (if so, is ICS ok or do I need JB?) and if so which 4.x in others' experience are the best bets for "everything just works" on the 5830i?
Also if I upgrade the OS, does the upgraded rom also include any applicable upgrades to radio, or is that a separate recommended install?
** hardware kbs have some uses - actual arrow keys, numbers without a modifier key, unobscured display, tactile, touch-typing.
*** My kb can be seen at ionaudio DOT com /images/products/ Type_N_Slide_open_angle_LG.jpg if useful.

Like you say, it isn't "off topic", eyes were fully used. The forum is used for other posts about ROMs, internal memory, firmware, hardware, modding etc so it's in good company  (and Alucard1989pl - maybe use eyes like iamareebjamal? Read before failing @ lulz? Not what a senior member's posts should be like, sorry)
Anyway thank you for editing your post. Yeah, I think you are right, it looks more likely to be ROM related, but I'm not fully sure.
So... are you actually very sure of your answer (that JB will fix this) now you read the actual question more? Or just guessing Would ICS be enough or must need JB for the device to work?
About Samsung - if you know this model, you know that Samsung don't do a 4.x rom (ICS or JB). So it would have to be a custom ROM anyway, and I'd want to use a good custom ROM if possible. So best 4.x ROM experiences for "it just works" on this model phone?

Perhaps say more plainly. If the question is lol, then maybe explain how to find out from others what version or ROM might enable HID BT without asking, or where is more relevant on the site than here. It seems a sensible question and this is the forum where other ROM questions on this handset get asked, so I'm honestly confused. If asking Samsung was sarcasm and not j/k, then it was a bit pointless - when you tell someone that 4.2 is going to work, a reasonable person asking a reasonable question who is told that by a senior user will take the answer as sensible.
Let's start again, and speak simply. I have a Bluetooth compatibility issue on the stock 2.3.6 manufacturer's ROM for this model (S5830i). I don't know enough to know if a 4.x ROM will probably fix it or not, and if so which of the custom 4.x ROMs for the S5830i has the best chance of "just working" and fixing it. Samsung (obviously) don't do a 4.x ROM and I prefer a custom good quality ROM anyway. This seems to be the right forum to ask hardware/firmware/custom ROM questions on the S5830i. If you can help with advice and answers, then thanks. If there's a more appropriate forum on XDA for this then can you tell me which one?

Well that's the thing... it can do Bluetooth, it can locate the device... it can communicate with the device... the error it's giving isn't a protocol or communication error, it's simply saying that the 5830i + Samsung Gingerbread stock ROM "isn't suppported"... and that sounds like "It would work at a hardware level but the OS doesn't handle this BT Keyboard, or some kinds of BT HID devices."
The changelog for 4.x shows a lot of "Bluetooth HID devices" now working with Android, so it could easily be a simple problem that 2.3.x won't cope but 4.x.x will. Is there any way to check that, that you know, though? My keyboard's linked in the first post.

It does look like this can be solved by upgrading your firmware, however this is impossible our phones cannot run any official or unofficial newer android systems we don't have the minimum requirements (limited by ram and space) flashing new roms (custom roms) does not increase your android version its still 2.3.6 just the text been edited to say 4.1.1 etc.
My advice is get a new keyboard and test it immediately so if it doesn't work you can return it... just ask around PC/mobile shops for a galaxy ace compatible keyboard...

This is my fist post, I am sorry if I am asking something I should not. I am not a technological guy, so I need some help and patience.
My wife has an old gt-i9082, it is at android 4.2.2. I think it is 3 years old.
I would like to upgrade it to a better version because the cellphone system are already very slow and some app are not working anymore.
A friend told me it is possible, since the cellphone are not at warranty anymore, but I do not know how to do it. I just find this forum with google.
So, I am asking for a step by step guide to do it, if it is possible. If it already exist, please point me to the relevant thread.
Again, sorry for my lack of understand.

They don't have any newer official Samsung updates, but the developers here have been able to keep your device updated with custom versions of android that are based off of the Android Open Source Project and/or CyanogenMod sources. This means that if you update, you will get a vastly different user experience. You will have access to the Play Store and all the apps and what not, but the UI is completely different from the Settings, to the Dialer, Contacts app, email app, etc etc. Many people prefer this, but if you aren't tech savvy and new things confuse and/or frustrate you, then it can be an adventure. There might be small issues or work arounds that you might need to do depending on which custom option you choose and how you prefer or need to use your phone as well. I don't recommend jumping into the upgrade without reading other forum members advice or comments to see if there are issues that might affect the use of your phone. You can find more information in the forum for your phone here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-duos -If you use the dual sim function, pay special attention to the changes in that set up with the newer versions.
I am going to ask for direction over there.
Thank you so much.
