Opinions Recommendations - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

Greetings,
I just received my T-Mobile Springboard and really like it a lot.
I found this forum recently and find it very helpful.
However, I have a couple of quick questions:
Are there any down sides to updating my T-Mobile Springboard with the MediaPad firmware (HUAWEI MediaPad FIRMWARE(S7-302u,Android4.0,C232B001,General Channel) I understand that it includes some bloatware, but will the 4G still work?
Is there a guide for upgrading the firmware?
Any recommendations for a microSD card
Thanks for your help!!!

download the firmware from huawei's offcial website here http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwi...=toDownloadFile&flay=software&softid=NDYyNzM=
extract the zip file, and copy the folder named "dload" to the root of your micro SD card.
turn off your mediapad
turn on again so that the the update process starts
when it finishes, you'll be asked to remove the micro SD card from your tablet, do that!
wait for it to fully boot, (it might take some time)
and there you go the ICS !
don't forget delete the "dload" folder from the SD card, otherwise every time you restart the mediaped the update will run again.

The only thing I would amend to hamdimo's instructions is to make sure you turn Quick Boot off in your tablet settings before attempting to boot from the sdcard with dload on it. Otherwise you might get the Android with FAIL message.
I've had the Springboard since February. I've been using mediapad and ICS on it since probably March. The only differences are it won't say TMobile or give you that annoying loud boot up sequence. It will now say Huawei Mediapad and it's a quicker boot up. Although it won't say 4G anymore doing a speed test determined that I was still getting 4G speeds on my device it just says "H" instead of 4G. You will be able to do text messages on it. You won't be able to get rid of the Voicemail notification. If you click on the notification you get a loud, "You do not have phone service enabled" message.
Oh yeah and I believe doing this will void your warranty.

I kind of missed that one! I've updated my Mediapad twice that way (without turning off the "quick boot" option) now i'm really glad i didn't brick the device!
thanks for the advice.

The first time I flashed the device it worked as you said. But when I tried to update the second time around I kept getting the blasted Android FAIL! I think someone else on this forum suggested turning off quick boot. After I did that, flashing the device has been easy peasy ever since.

[Q] SIM Error / Network Unavailable, but I get voicemail notification. Confused

Hello guys. I bought a used dell streak which worked before I flashed streakdroid 2.4.4. I flashed the amss and dsp1 and everything matches when I check the phone information. I tried searching for mobile networks and AT&T appears but when I select it, it says "unable to connect to network please try again later" or "unable to register". Whats confusing is that I get a voicemail notification letting me know I have voicemail but when I click on it, I get "mobile network unavailable"
I rarely ask questions because when I'm stuck on something it is usually a simple fix. I've flashed every custom rom and matching baseband on the front page of the android development section and the Official PKG (351, 353, 206). I've done multiple system wipes etc. Im not sure what else I need to do. I've never worked on a phone for more than 4 hours and Im currently on my 11th on this damn dell streak
So is there a way to find out what region this dell streak came from to make this process easier, I dont want to have to try flashing every single update.pkg and baseband.
Or is there a general solution to this issue hidden in the archives of the internet?
Im soooo confused so any help would be greatly appreciated

Do a cache wipe
dalvik cache wipe,
"DELL" factory reset
Re-Flash gs244, then straight away do the first 3 steps again.
This time, flash without the simcard inserted.
When it first boots up after the factory reset, turn it off, put your sim in and power on.
I had the same prob as you with a uk network sim, after doing the above, it worked fine, im pretty sure it will sort your issue.

I have tried this step 3 times to no avail. When I go into settings>Wireless & Network Settings>Mobile Networks >Network Operators then select Search Networks two networks appear related to my phone company. When I select one option it says
Your sim will not register to this network
The second options gives me this response
Unable to connect to the network at this time. Please try again later.
Isnt the error code for a bad radio blinking lights? So why am I getting this particular error code.....
Is there a deeper menu within the dell streak to access more radio settings?
Is there a way to find out what region this phone is from so I can flash the original update.pkg?
Will the packers win the superbowl.......
Thanks for the help so far, this seems to be a common problem. I searched through several pages of Google, I even resorted to using bing and yahoo but I haven't found one consistent solution. Lets make one guys.
Also after dell factory reset I get this error Default NV checked #2 which doesnt allow me to go straight into the update.zip streakdroid menu then it resets the phone.
Do yourself a favor and don't install GingerStreak. Development has essentially stalled on that ROM, leaving it in a very buggy state compared to other ROMs. I recommend DSC, but with the GKernel that's available in Android Development instead of the kernel that comes with the ROM. The combination has been rock solid stable on my device, without any screens of death or problems with WiFi.
Ive flashed every single update.pkg from this list and have my Dell Streak 5 currently on 1.6 At&t retail 106 rom
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/
None of the packages work. On the Rodgers I would get a
Emergency Calls only status
Other than that I just have 4 bars with an x over them
I even erased all user data via fastboot
Ive used QDL at least 8 times
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Is there a key code via fastboot menu to get further into the mobile network settings?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Does your Streak still boot after using fastboot -erase? That's a big no-no. Usually results in a brick that only can be cured by disassembling the Streak and flashing an image of the internal MicroSD onto the card.
I am assuming that you flashed the recovery for the ROM you wanted to put on the Streak before trying to flash the ROM? You likely will have to search for some ancient posts, but if flashing the desired ROM's recovery image and then flashing the ROM doesn't work, you have to prepare the Streak to accept newer ROMs. Those ancient posts I mentioned detail the method to get units like yours to run newer versions of Android.

I know fastboot erase is a bad idea but at this point not having a mobile signal makes this device useless to me anyways. I did that twice actually.
I am currently running official rom update package 360 or Android 2.2.2 the latest from retail. I am still having the same issue.
I have spend a good portion of my day for the past 4 days reading archives of discussions both here and on madaco. No on seems to have a consistent solution to this problem. Ive read that sticking a business card under the battery works, the order of flashing should fix it, I mean the solutions are all over the place and I tried all of them but I still have the same problems.
I haven't read every single Q&A post but I have read almost everything under the Dell Streak 5 XDA board pertaining to this issue. I've also flashed every single available update package with match recovery and baseband with no results.
I feel like I've failed at this project and I am never going to get the time or the effort I put into this device back unless I can get it to work so this is just beyond frustrating.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried using a different sim card? Every now and then there's a sim that wont work on it but will work on a different device.

Sorry your still having this issue.
Ive googled and found nothing consistent apart from the obvious that already been mentioned.
Daft question i know but, are you absolutley 100% certain that this phone has not been blocked by your network via IMEI?
Sounds daft i know but people using phone / Tablets are reporting on consisten problems with networks and IMEI.
I would not attempt QDL anymore, if it didnt fix it the first time then that wont help your cause.
I think going back to ground zero is the place to sart, can you gain access to internal memory card, mine i can, i cut away the piece of plastic in the guide to allow easy access, i replaced the internal 2gig card with an 8gig class 10, just to note, the 2gig card was shot and was nothing more than a standard generic unbranded card, i do still have it sat around.
That would be my next step, wipe the phone, stick a diff card in and start again with STOCK 360 and matching recovery, i agree with the quote of avoiding gs, too damn buggy and problematic.
Let me know how youre getting on with it.

I ended up just liquidating the phone and cutting my losses. I dont think it was blocked from the network because I tried several SIM cards from different networks. For all I know it it could have been a bent SIM connection or something wacky. I am leaning towards the idea of it being hardware related but I gave it my best shot
Friends, I am also in the same state now. I bought the dell streak from one of our members, and it worked for few weeks. After that, I am getting that signal bar with X mark on it. I have tried all the options, but of no luck.
I spent almost my 6 months savings on this phone and it's really making me sleepless. Request your kind suggestions to address this.
hi
i had same problem about a month ago, i just kept restarting phoning, pulling battery out and i gave up, then after leaving it for a couple of hours it was working......
^^ Thanks friend for your reply. I have been doing the same, doing the factory resetting and trying the various options. But, of no luck.
Any concrete solution for this problem? I appreciate all your inputs.
What I would suggest for all of you is to go back to Froyo by flashing stock Dell update packages for your respective regions and see if you regain signal

If you flashed a stock Froyo ROM for YOUR SPECIFIC region, did a factory reset and still can't get a signal then your problem is hardware related...

^^ Yeah, that's my big worry!! It seems to be a hardware related. I got this phone from one of the our members, and it has already having some hw issues like the buttons are gone inside, right side bezel is very loose, and all (unfortunately, the seller has not mentioned all these issues in his post)
Can the dell warranty applies internationally?

It applies only in the country it was purchased if it hasn't expired and with a valod letter of release from the original owner

^^ yeah, checked my local dell service guys and they are not supporting this. I think that this is now turning into an expensive brick!

[Q] .14 stuck me in a bootloop. Got a link for .15?

I did the OTA for .14 where upon my Prime immediately started an infinite bootloop. I tried re installing .14 with the manual sd card method, but it changed nothing. I'd like to try again with .15 but ASUS hasn't updated their page with .15, nor have they responded to my help request within 48 business hours. Does anyone have a link for .15 I can try? Or .11 for that matter so I can downgrade?
Edit: Just realized I posted to the wrong section. I am dumb. Sorry Mods! Go ahead and move it.
If your unlocked then Here you go.
I saw that. I'm not and don't plan to. 8\
Thanks though
I have the exact same problem, and seems like ASUS is not really worried about us ... what are they waiting to finally put online the complete firmware, it's been 4 days since the last OTA ...
Still no firmware and still no response on my support request. Time to take it to Twitter I guess. Got me help when my ISP was trying to screw me.

I downloaded the US version. How do you install it? it's just a zip file with no instructions or executables. There is no instructions listed on the support site either. Thanks.
Finally, my prime is back to life!
Method known as the EP201_SDUPDATE.zip method :
Download the firmware or your choice on the asus download page. It has to be the same version or an upgrade of your current version. You can't downgrade using this method.
Once downloaded, extract the zip. Inside, there's another file file.
Rename this one into EP201_SDUPDATE.zip and put it in the root of a microSD card.
Put the microSD card into the tf201.
As soon as your device boots (or reboots), hold the Volume Down key until some text shows up on the top left of the screen. Then, press Volume Up once within 5 seconds.
Some more text will be displayed. Wait a bit and ... there's three scenario here :
A) A droid with a blue diamond and a progress bar is showed on the screen for a while, then the device reboots and a long progress bar is upgrading or changing firmware zone. You Win.
B) The device reboots like nothing happened. It means you have a very bad reboot problem. I had it myself using .14. The device reboots so frequently that there's not enough time for it to load the rescue upgrade program. Solution : try again, repeat the steps to enter rescue mode. Eventually, you'll get it (took me 15 tries or so to get it)
C) You see the same thing as A) but then there's a dead droid with a red "!" symbol. It means your microSD card is not inside or the file you've put at the root of it is not valid (no downgrade!!)
So using this method, I was able to upgrade to .15 and my prime is back to life right, syncing all the programs right now, that's great
Yeah, I used that method too. Unfortunatly while trying to fix it the other day I wiped it. 8(
It's running, but now I have another problem. I have no wifi. >_<
Yep, that did the trick. Thanks!
Hello! I have scenario you don't have on your list. My TF201 just keeps repeating the ASUS screen over and over and when I try to go into recovery all I get is the GREEN Android with and GREEN Triangle and Exclamation mark. Have you heard of anyone with this type of symptom?

Have you put the right file at the root of your microSD? It's the zip file that is in the zip file you downloaded from ASUS.
Must be renamed EP201_SDUPDATE.zip
And you can't downgrade using this method. Use a different SKU or an upgrade.
It's supposed to work if done properly, give me more details on what you're trying to do (version and sku of firmware you have on tf201 and sku and version of firmware you're trying to use)

Thank you for your reply. Here is what I did:
My TF201 is a JP version and originally had HC on it. I read through XDA to find that I am able to use the ICS update from a different SKU so I updated to ICS US Version and all was great except that I could not use my Keyboard Dock since it a JP version Keyboard. Then I noticed we were able to put CWM on the TF201 so I went ahead and did that (I think this may be the reason why I can`t revive my prime.). I wanted to go back to HC so that I can use my Keyboard Dock again (I had already backed my Blob from the time it was still on HC JP Version). I googled the HC US Version and did the downgrade as posted on this site, all went well as it was showing the progress bar of the downgrade. But when I rebooted all I got was the ASUS Logo loop and when I try to access recovery I would see the Android Robot and a progress bar at the bottom then it would suddenly give me the green exclamation mark. I asked around here and was shown your thread so I gave it try using the latest ICS update for US version since that was the SKU of the HC I tried to downgrade to. I followed the instructions on this thread and to no avail will my Prime revive. I have tried about 10 times over and over but would still get the same Android Robot with Exclamation mark. Shall I keep trying your method or is there a possibility my Prime is bricked for good. Any assistance would be great and I am willing to try anything to get my Prime revived again, don`t want to go out buy a new one if I can revive my Prime.
Hmmm that's weird, maybe its because you unlocked your bootloader ... maybe ask to people who also did unlockthe bootloader ...

Yes it is very wierd. I get no errors like most people do. I think it is the bootloader that is causing the problem. I am going to try to run ADB logcat to see if anything pops out. If I can only pin point the problem I may be able to figure it out or .... not. I am going to ask around some more and keep trying your method. Thanks for trying to help me out! Greatly appreciated!!!
EDIT: I have tried everything to revive my Prime, I pretty much give up. I have asked ASUS for assistance in getting it repaired but have no reply from them yet.
I had a similar issue (stuck at the Eee Pad screen) and used this method to resolve it.
It is worth noting that the Micro SD Card must be formatted as FAT32, not FAT as suggested on some sites. I wasted a day or more on this using a FAT formatted card.

Flashing dead Android B63M Dual Sim

Hi there all,
Thanks in advance for looking,
I have a chinese dual sim with android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, as main stream manufactures dont make Android dual sim phones.
I have routed the phone useing superoneclick.
I have been loking for a way to do a total back up of the phone to preseve it.
I have downloaded titanium back up pro and clock recovery mod as well as droid X recovery.
My problem started when I used the "fix permissions" option in droid X which proceeded to over write my system resulting a expensive brick.
Its locked in a loop trying to boot up.
I have read on the forum that it is possible to re-flash through the sd slot on the phone.
1) Is this possible with my mobile?
2) If so what software do I use ?
3) A good simple guide in the process would be a must as I am complete novice.
4) Please bear in mind that this is not a mainstream phone.

Unrooting Virgin Mobile Samsung Galaxy Victory LTE

Hi, first time posting, but I've lurked for a while.
First of all, I apologize if I am in the wrong forum which I probably am.
Also, please be patient with me as I just got out of the hospital and all of my rooting knowledge -- what little I had -- is lost somewhere in my brain. I am still recovering so I am not at 100%.
Anyway, I have a Samsung Galaxy Victory LTE 4G with Virgin Mobile. A year or so ago I was able to root this this. I have no idea how I did it but I did.
Anyway, it only has Android 4.1.2 on it when I rooted it. I'd like to unroot it and hopefully get an OTA update. But I've had some trouble. I read online that I could just unroot by going to the settings of SuperSU and checking the unroot option, which I did. But I may have messed around with it and disabled update settings as it doesn't do anything with I attempt to click update in the settings of my phone. I think I disabled "update" services a while back, for some reason.
Apps say my phone is not rooted but I imagine some of the adjusting I did is still in the phone and so it's in a weird root/unroot limbo state or something. Again, sorry, I wish I could remember all of this.
So I've been reading up on how to unroot it but I cannot find the custom firmware to this thing online. I think I had it at one time on my PC but I've had to reformat and lost everything. Samsung's site pulled it. It's a model SPH-L300. I was thinking I need to root it again, and then try to properly unroot it? But not sure.
Anyway, I try to boot into download mode (pwr + vol down) and it goes into Odin mode but is stuck at the message "downloading -- do not power down". I can pull the battery and get it to power up as normally.
Just today I downloaded Odin, SuperSU and a newer TWRP tar file. But I don't think that will allow me to do what I want, which is essentially unroot to get an OTA update or worse case start over with a fresh install of the original firmware, which I cannot find online.
If this is confusing, sorry. I guess I am just asking for advice on what to do and how I should do it. Thanks., and sorry for the long rambling post.

You'll want to download this to a PC: http://www.mediafire.com/download/n...5_L300SPTAMG5_1308964_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
Find the Odin program - 3.04 or newer, open as Admin and load the tar file in the PDA or AP slot (depends on which Odin version).
Put the phone in Download mode. Connect to PC. Make sure drivers load. Should show COM:XX (where XX is any number, doesn't matter as long as it shows up). If so, hit Start, and after the md5 is checked, it will reload the entire software and firmware to the phone. Can take 5-10 minutes. If you bootloop after a successful flash, then perform a factory reset in recovery.

Thank you immensely for that! I will try that. And thanks for the FW, I've been looking all over for it!

You're welcome. My Google-Fu is strong.

Could use some help getting my nook tablet back up and running again!

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I have an original nook tablet that I had rooted back in the day when I was quite a bit younger. If im correct I tried to factory reset it and it didn't quite work. I recently came across the tablet again and decided to fix it once and for all. I attached a photo of the issues I am having. I am honestly assuming I bricked the thing. Help would be appreciated! I'm looking to either get the nook back to factory state, or even root it and flash an android system onto it. Whatever is easier to be very honest. Looking forward to hearing from you all,
-Devin

Hello Jan!
That's what I was originally trying to do, but I couldn't find a tutorial on the whole process. Thoughts?

If you think the tablet is truly "bricked" you may want to prepare a rescue card (https://www.mediafire.com/file/07fbs2usj7pk0pp/bn_142_factory_recovery.zip/file) to restore the factory partitions, etc. This will put you back at FW 1.42, but that doesn't matter if you're going to flash a custom ROM.
Once you're sure the device is functional you could flash a new ROM. If you have the 8 gb model, then the place to go is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...nd-for-the-8-gb-nook-tablet-bntv250a.3667555/
If you have the 16 gb model, then here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-internally-on-the-16-gb-nook-tablet.3578665/

sorry for the extremely late reply. I "burned" the recovery file to my micro SD card but the nook refuses to power on with the SD card inserted. I am so confused, any thoughts?

That's the first time I've heard of something like that. Will it start up wth the card in place if you plug in a power cable?
Edit: FWIW, if you can get the tablet to boot with the card, here are the original instructions for restoring the device with the card: https://web.archive.org/web/2018082...06/how-to-un-brick-a-nook-tablet-8gb-or-16gb/
Edit, Edit: And...if you still can't get the tablet to boot with a card in it, try this:
Perform Factory Reset of the Nook Tablet:
PWR off the Nook Tablet.
Hold "PWR" & "∩" buttons simultaneously to reboot.
After reboot, release the "PWR" & "∩" buttons after 2-3 seconds upon receiving the "∩ - Contains Reader® Mobile technology by Adobe Systems Incorporated." screen.
The screen may blink a couple seconds later and then you will be presented with the Factory Reset screen with the following options:
Do you want to reset your device to the factory default?
Press POWER key to exit
Press HOME key to continue
Are you sure?
This will delete all your content and restore the device to the factory default settings.
Press POWER key to exit
Press HOME key to continue
