rooting amaze stock ICS - HTC Amaze 4G

guys my wife wants to root her phone to remove a bunch of bloatware from tmobile apps, but she is now with ics and i was wondering if to root that phone will be the same as when i rooted mine with gb?
unlock bootloader from htcdev site, and then flash a recovery and superuser? or is there a different method?

Yes, its no different, please post all questions in Q&A.
Sent from a Galaxy flowing with Jelly Beans.

I highly recommend using hasoons soons HTC Amaze all in one root kit.... It's super easy to use and understand if your not trying to over complicate things.... I'd use TWRP recovery and the latest faux kernel for overclocking if your into that. I could be wrong but I think that kernel is compatible with ICS but I'm not completely sure...... But If not I'd use the stock kernel.... anyways here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905&page=2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Device: HTC Amaze 4G
Rooted?: OF COURSE!
Recovery: TWRP 2.1
ROM: Fourth Bar 3.0

This belongs in Q&A. Please keep all question related threads in that section only. Thank You.

look in the "rollup sticky" thread over in the Development forum. Video tutorials and write-ups and links to drivers etc. are all in there.
This should be all you need to root, flash a recovery and install su. Follow the directions exactly and you wont have any issues. Works for me although I use TWRP 2.0.
Should note, Im a cdma user.
ok, thank you very much, I post it here if I have some more questions
Ok, Since three days I have root with cwm on my phone, the next thing would be what rom is good? Want to flash a custom Rom but I like the original sense htc style and just want to overclock and have some more options in the menus...would be nice if someone could tell me

If your just getting the phone now, chances are its gonna have hboot 1.5. So you'd have to use the HTC method.

YA Hboot1.5 your stuck with HTC method use CWM for recovery alot of folks had issues with TWRP 2.0 not flashing right and dirty flashes.
Themes won't flash right along with other things.
Twrp 2.0 works perfectly for me. Only one version of clockwork will stick...so I use twrp, I like the touch based recovery. And I've had no issues making nands or restoring them. This coming from years of using clockwork. Just gotta adapt.

Hello! I ve already wrote that I have the phone and have root on it with cwm...I very already rooted it, so next thing would be a good Rom with overclock functionality

[Guide][GBtoICS][T-Mobile] Instructions+Links -UPDATED 4/3/13

****Disclaimer: As always, though there is little risk in doing this, if you turn your device into a building material (brick), blow it up, or it vanishes in thin air, I will not be responsible****
ICS is officially here ... If you want ICS you must flash the RUU for your carrier. (All RUU's for ALL carriers are found here)
!!There are certain steps to flashing this, so please read on!!
(Minor Update: Hasoons Toolkit, which is mentioned throughout this thread, is NO LONGER AVAILABLE through the links I've provided, Unless you are able to find an alternative link, you obviously won't be able to use the the toolkit in the steps its mentioned. NOT TO WORRY, the toolkit is NOT required. Just follow the directions they include how to do it with and without the toolkit.)
ATTENTION!! YOU MUST FLASH ICS RUU FIRST BEFORE YOU CAN FLASH A CUSTOM ICS ROM!!
The following steps using only a PH85IMG.zip (RUU) applies to TMOBILE devices only (unless you are s-off with super cid). The other carriers use a PH85IMG.zip and an .EXE that you run from your computer with your phone connected to the computer. i will try and add instructions
S-ON INSTUCTIONS (T-Mobile)
- First, i recommend downloading Hasoon's toolkit, as it will help in a few steps, and make life much easier, especially if you are new to this. Get it here!
1) Download the Latest T-Mobile RUU!.
2.) Rename the downloaded RUU file to ph85img.zip and then put that file on the ROOT of your External SD card. (Windows may add the .zip extension for you, so make sure it doesn't end up being named ph85img.zip.zip) (IF you do not have an sd card reader, Make sure to place the PH85img.zip on sd card BEFORE locking your bootloader in the next step)
3.) If your boot loader is Unlocked, you will need to Relock it. Easiest way is to use Hasoon's toolkit OR you can use adb command = fastboot oem lock.
4.) Now, with the ph85img on your external sd card and your bootloader locked, power on your phone by holding down "Power+VolumeDown" buttons. Continue to hold both buttons until the "bootloader" screen displayed.
5.) Once you are in the bootloader, It will prompt you to update. Select yes and let it run its course, It will do the rest for you. When it is done, you will now have stock ICS and can boot up your phone.
If you want to flash custom roms, root your phone, etc. continue with the following steps.
6.) Unlock bootloader again through http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/]HTC dev, or if you have unlocked the bootloader before and still have the original .bin file, you can use that one again (Hasoon's toolkit can assist in this)
7.) Flash 4ext recovery. (...Use Hasoon's toolkit to do this) OR Paid Version / Free Version **You must use 4ext as your recovery if you are S-ON) by Enabling "SMARTFLASH" in the 4ext recovery settings. This will allow the Kernel to get flashed or, if not enabled you will only get bootloops when flashing roms
8.) Finally, To regain root, Flash superuser package, through recovery (may take a couple flashes to work, including rebooting recovery and flashing again.)
You can now flash custom ics roms if you want. Make sure to always do a full wipe when flashing a different rom
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S-OFF INSTRUCTIONS(T-Mobile)
1.)If you are already S-Off, you DO NOT need to go back to S-On and you DO NOT need to relock your bootloader.
2.) Download the RUU and rename it PH85IMG.zip.
3.) Place the PH85IMG.zip on the root of your External SD card.
4.) Next, power on your phone by holding down "Power+VolumeDown." Continue to hold both buttons until the phone boots into the "Bootloader."
5.) Once you are in the bootloader, It will prompt you to update. Select yes and let it run its course, It will do the rest for you. When it is done, you will now have stock ICS and can boot up your phone.
However, if you want to root again, you will need an ENG HBOOT or Juopunutbear's HBOOT flashed or else you won't be able to flash a recovery, etc.
ENG H-BOOT and Insteuctions found here.
S-OFF found here!

I tried 3.6 for the amaze, seemed a whole lot smoother than stock 3.0, still waiting patiently for 4.0 for the amaze though lol, tried the one V port to the Inspire and it is a HUGE improvement over 3.6

Hey all, I posted in another thread about a response I received from Telus about the ICS update. The Telus rep had responded that the update had been released in January. I emailed back calling bull**** (but in a polite Canadian way of course), and received yet another response from Telus. Typical Telus moronery (I made up that word in Telus' honor).
Here is their last response:
Hello Mark,
I regret to see that you were provided with the incorrect information from the previous representative. I checked with our Data and Network Assistance Team and the manufacture has not provided us with a date as to when the Android 4.0 update will be available for the HTC Amaze. I have provided you the link below that shows all of the updates that are available currently available. The HTC Amaze will be added to this list once the ICS update becomes available:
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/BC/Software-Updates/android-updates-main.shtml
So, as suspected, no update yet.
I suspect itll come in a week or two, sicne the rezound is getting it next week

However, almost every ICS Rom I install, INCLUDING this one, when it reboots, it stays frozen on the HTC Screen with the green HTC lettering, and the White Background, and does nothing. How can i get rid of this? what do I need to do? PLEASE HELP!
Moved to proper forum.

Get S-off. The ICS ROM's don't flash well with 1.5 s-on. In fact, almost every person who flashes an ICS Rom that is 1.5 s-on has this issue. Getting s-off is pretty easy to do now. See the stickies in the GSM or CDMA development thread (depending on your phone).
Also, I recommend posting questions in the Q&A section when you need help.

Anyways on to the individual at hand.
What's your device info? Like hboot version, what android version were you on before trying to flash? ICS or GB?
Here's a basics run down on how to get things going again.
There's a stock ruu/ota thread in the dev section, grab the stock GB ruu for your device, put your phone into fastboot mode (check in the amaze bible thread how to do this), restore your device, if it's a zip file for your carrier, rename it to PH85IMG and place it on your sd card, reboot into bootloader and then hit volume up to restore the stock ruu.
If it's an exe file, put it into fastboot and run the exe file, follow all steps and restore the device.
Once done, update to ICS via the software update option available on your device under settings>about phone>software update
Once you're on ICS, flash a custom recovery via hasoon's tool, then reflash the rom you were trying to flash in the beginning.
Ask any further questions right here.

Not clear at all. How'd you "delete" HTC Sense?
You are supposed to wipe before flashing a ROM. Also, CM9/10 aren't even fully working. So why are you trying to flash it in the first place?

Well first off you don't install roms through bootloader you install them through recovery, maybe u just said that wrong.
Second, what where you running on your phone before you tried flashing these roms?

Ok the reason im not making any sense is because I've been up so late trying to fix this. Been learning a lot in the process.
Here's what happened, I was using a file manager (my phone is rooted) and deleted htc sense while it the phone was on. Now I am trying to flash a custom rom through the recovery mode and flash the kernal (boot.img) through fast boot.
Nothing is working. The closest I got was with cyanogen mod 9 but It was giving me errors when trying to connect to any networks.
Did you wipe/factory reset? Otherwise you would have a lot of problems trying to flash cyanogen over sense. Also cyanogen has lots of bugs still.... So I recommend you go with a Sense based rom.... Android Revolution/Energy/Speedrom. Those are the ones that have the least bugs.
Here's your best resolve, reload the stock RUU via hboot, if you're s-on, don't forget to relock the bootloader, if not, just reflash the stock ruu via hboot, that should solve all your issues, I don't get why you'd go to cm9 and 10 instead of a stock based rom, but for the simplest way to resolve the issue would be to flash the stock ruu via hboot.
