Honestly, I've been having the same problem with emojis not showing up, just getting spaced text with question marks and other symbols. I've tried Handcent, Go SMS, and Chomp SMS, all installed separately with the emoji plugin and still get the same error. I've just reached the point where I'm blaming that the phone was just released and a hotfix will come soon. Also I'm using [ROM] [STOCK] [I535VRALF2] Stripped, Rooted for VZW with stock messaging app installed. Any ideas would be appreciated, it's driving me insane.
Ya, I have tried all of the after market SMS apps.... no luck. Its killin me!

Look for emoji keyboard or something like that on google play. It should also give you details on how to install the emoji font but will require root access

Yeah i say if you want emoji just dont use the stock sms app lol, i use chompsms just for that reason :good: , because inserting emoji is super easy on it.

Using Go SMS here (with the emoji plugin) and I have the problems occasionally too.
T-mobile GSIII
I used Handcent and there is a setting to make all Emojiis transmit as MMS and not SMS. Since I changed the setting not a single issue.:good:

Just tried this on my Root66'd VZW SGS3 and it worked like a champ. After installing Handcent and the Handcent emoji plugin, within Handcent its at Settings>Application Settings>Emoji Message Protocol. Select "Always with MMS" and you are set.
Tested with my gf's ATT iPhone 3G with iOS5.
root. install stock SMS/MMS with built in emoji. profit.

You have to go to Verizon's website and get rid of the feature that's causing it. For wifi try to modify it (long click) and click advanced, change the IP to static, fill in the blanks with what you see there, save and exit then modify again and change IP back to the other option. Then it may connect and disconnect a few times just let it go and it should work

Sign into Verizon and click change features (first pic.) Select ur device and click next. Then go through the list and just disable all features that r enabled (2nd pic) (I don't remember the exact feature for fixing the problem so just disable them all or disable one at a time then click next towards the bottom to confirm the change)

Once I disabled the features I stopped getting the texts. The last two I got had stop or something in them. I also deleted my email account just in case after I disabled the features from Verizon. Since then I haven't gotten anything. Google it that's what I did and those r the steps it took me through

i have looked everywhere and cannot find them. can one of you please post the link...they got so bad i had to put my stock rom back on...the texts are numbers...i got a bunch with the number 1 then 2 then 3 and one was 4....then they went back to 1, i kept wiping cache and all....so please post the link and could someone plleeeasee tell me whats causing this all of a sudden cause my girlfriend has the exact same rom flashed and she is not getting any texts like this....
So when I worked for a wireless kiosk we had a lot of issues like this. It ended up being backup assistant plus. We would take that off peoples accounts and that would stop the texts.

If you get the text messages from Verizon (6250 or whatever). This is how you get rid of that. Login to your Verizon Wireless account. Towards the top, mouse over where it says "My Verizon" and look under "My Plans and Services" and click on "Change Features." Select your phone or the phone that is getting the messages. Now when the next page comes up, look for "Cloud Storage and Sync" and remove the Email Sync option. It's free and will not change your billing. There you go, no more texts

I got those too. I finally found out that I inadvertently signed up for the backup assistant from Verizon. I don't remember exactly how I did it. But I think if you go to their website and remove your account or its connection to yours or something like that. Anyway hope it helps.

Yeah, on stock rom you can choose how many sms you would keep overall and also how many you'd keep per conversation Check it on sms app settings
Also every sms app have this settings but I know no-one that let you set the oldest sms to keep :/

Hey guys, guess I have a question:
Is there a sms counter that shows the number of sent messages for each contact?
On roms like cyanogenmod with that stock android messaging app it's like that:
Darth Vader (578)

Now on our stock sony rom, there's no counter. Maybe I could edit the apk or is there another app from the playstore that counts my messages for each contact?
Thanks in advance!
I searched for such a thing but I couldn't find a counter for each contact.. I found a normal counters for the whole SMSs
If u find a solution or alternatives I wish u can PM dude.. Good luck

Yes, I'm using "SMS Counter" at the moment and it's very good! But it just informs about all sms, sms in one month, sms per week, sms per day. But not for every contact
I hope somebody knows how to get an app like that
By the way I've tried to install the stock messaging app, but it just hangs after opening the app, because I have all my old messages. Maybe a way to fix that?

Sorry to interrupt. I had found such an app. It showed graphical representation of whom called and whom messaged and how many times. U could set an interval to it like u want statistics of one month, one day, one year. I ll just link you once i find it. Coz i used it almost 5 months ago when i was on stock non rooted..
I ll link here once i find
Btw mihahn used ur tutorial to unlock bootloader of my arc s. Really wonderful. Thanks a ton

Hmmm...install SMS Backup & Restore from Playstore....use it to backup all your sms first....
then using Root Explorer go to....
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
delete....
1.mmssms.db
2.mmssms.db-journal
or copy it into your sd card in-case there a problem while restoring sms using SMS Backup & Restore...
once delete or copy, boot your phone....after reboot open stock messaging app....it should be empty...setup all the necessary setting on messaging app first then use SMS Backup & Restore to restore you backup sms....if somehow there a problem after restoring....then use copy and paste back those files above to the same folder with permission (rw-rw-----) then reboot....
Thank you both! Will try both methods, second would be better because I like the stock app
I've tried the method by just wiping data and restoring it but after reboot I got the message "2387 new messages by ..." and if I open it's just stuck there... Hope with deleting the data base it could work :good:
Sent from my SK17i running stock ics (.587)
Okay so now I nearly fixed it:
1. Backup all messages using SMS Backup + Restore
2. Push MMS.apk to /system/app/ and set permissions
3. Reboot
4. Sms app has problems, doesn't work anymore
5. Delete everything in /data/data/com.android.mms/databases/ (two files were in there)
6. Reboot again
7. Everything worked, messages are still there, no need to restore again
Only problem: the date is wrong in the new messaging app (01.01.1970, 01:00), looking for a way to fix that
Thank you both guys! Thank you very much :good:

Yes the other app is great, too, but better would be the stock messaging app, because nobody knows where my data goes with a third party app. And it has some ads and automatically creates some shortcuts and boookmarks on my device. That's not really good
Just checked it: the problem about the date is not because of the backup app, it's because of the messaging app

Just solved it, you need to uncheck the option to show the date when it was sent. Then it'll show the date when you received it and this one is correct. Now it's working great! Thanks all

Yes only problem is I can't set the option to view the date when it was sent instead of the date when I received it ( it shows 01.01.1970, 01:01 for every message I received), but that's not a big problem. So it's solved now

I am currently running the Miui ROM on my Verizon CDMA xt912. It runs nicely except one thing. I am unable to send MMS on the native messaging app. And even sometimes on the go SMS app. I put the apns from my stock ROM so theoretically it should work. Nothing....
I remember having the same issue on the miui ROM s in the past with other phones but I can't remember how it was fixed.
Any thoughts.... Idea?....
Any help will be great.

I actually got it resolved. It was an issue with the size of the MMS being sent. Changed it in the settings and works well now. Still can not use the native app but that is OK.
