How long lasts your battery? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I have been searching a bit but i haven't seen much.., the thing is that usually i don't use much my ray, but on the last days i noticed the battery drains faster than i thought. I'm using 2.3.4/4.0.2.A.0.42, stock & rooted.
With only "sony menu" + "call master" + "clock" + "kakaotalk" on memory it uses 5% battery per hour, that's on standby (screen off & no activity, no sync, no email), kakaotalk sends keepalive packets, but uses very low network, is that normal?
A relative of me uses a desire S (not rooted, with a ton of apps on memory), and the battery lasts a weekend, with often email updates (desire S battery is near the same, also has the same cpu&gpu).
How long lasts your battery & with which apps running on background?
There is any benefit on 4.0.4 battery wise? (cpu usage will be the same i guess, if not more.., but dunno about radio, this talking of stock roms & kernels, not custom)
Btw, checking cpu speed, seems that is a 24x Mhz when on standby, i guess is the default.
Ty!

For me my baterry lasts abou 1d and half. I am with wi fi on all the time + night. I have 162 apps and I have 150 mb free ram. I am using jjs hybrid v3. 2. Pm me if you are interested in this rom

With Aire's GB & Kernel, 2G, WiFi off, and data/sync on, 0.5% hour on standby.

Unfortunately only 6-7 hours with official 4.0.4

Depends on usage. I am using Emotr Miyav MIUI (based on gingerbread). I have underclocked my CPU to 0,6Mhz (ROM can run smoothly even with 0,4ghz). My battery lasts 2,5 days with moderate usage.

if you put it on GSM only it will last longer but your internet connection will be very slow
Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> More --> Mobile Networks --> Network Mode ---> GSM Only
now i`m on GPRS for internet reasons and it lasts me only 1 day and a half
the 2nd time i recharged it last me almost 3 days (on GSM & official Sony 4.0.4)

I'm using jj's hibrid rom 3.1, XRay V7.3.431 kernel, wifi/ synch / data are off most of the time. I only switch them on when I need something.
Usually battery last for 4 days, with 25% approximate usage of battery per day (less than a 1%/h). And I think this is still too much. Sometime ago I tried to tweak my ray to last longer, and best I achieved was 6 days (used mostly as a phone, wi-fi from time to time)

Mine is 1d and a half with wifi on all day and night, music and playing games. i use jj's v3.2 hybrid, sirkay's kernel, no frills cpu and advance task killer.

And dude dont use task killers. They **** up everything. Go to settings>apps>running and kill them if you dont want them

Hi all,
received my xperia ray earlier this week. It runs stock 4.0.2.A.0.69 , kernel is 2.6.32.9-perf and the baseband 66.
Usage Pattern:
- Data Connection GPRS only, Wifi if available
- Screen Brighness arround 75%
- Email (manual Sync)
- Whats App
- Few calls
- Browsing the Internet (Dolphin HD)
- Installing apps from the playstore.
- Shoot some pics and took 10mins of hd video
- Hear music (15 to 20 mins)
That is what I've got after the initial charging.
--
PS: excuse my english. pms with corrections are appreciated.

I got around 21h on it, wifi/3g/gps turn on all the time, 10-20 emails, 5-10 long calls, around 2 hours browsing/xda/appaware/feedly on wifi and 3g, snap 4-5 photo with instagram, listen to music for 30 mins, play gyro for about 30 mins, etc...
Well, it a smartphone, so I will do smart things with it, not worth having smartphone and using it like a dumbphone.
I will buy a nokia or philips if I just need sms and phone or bb if need email, they will last for a week.

okay. are you using V6 supercharge on jj's v3.2?

I get around 3 days on a full charge on Stable Cyangenmod 7.2 GINGERBEAD ROM with FXP129 Kernel running on Official Baseband .72 for Ray (without any conflicts)
Running the latest Baseband on an older ROM actually works
Followed simple stuff like
Removed Google MAPS and installed Navfree World (best offline App)
Set brightness to 25%
Only use 2G where possible
Only use Wifi when needed
Only turn on Background Data when needed
Never Sync anything unless needed
Never use App Killers or CPU/Memory otimizers - I simply use the running services menu and stop APPs from there.
Have set a few tweaks in CM7.2 and ADW Launcher by turning off a few things which has made the phone run a little smoother
Not into performance as this will eat away at the battery - I like to have the best of both worlds with a little compromise on performance
Have set the following into the builprop file - making sure that any entry that is already there is marked out with a #
pm.sleepmode=1
mot.proximity.delay=150
ro.lge.proximity.delay=25
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=120
pm.sleep_mode=1
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0
video.accelerate.hw=1
debug.sf.hw=1
debug.performance.tuning=1
ro.telephony.call_ring.delay=0
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
Since applying the above I only ever get about 1% drain in sleep mode for every hour
If you don't use the phone very much then 3 days is probably MAX you will ever get
If you use it like an Android phone is meant to be used to the max, then you are looking at about 1.5 days battery
Wont recommend Optimization Apps or Tweak Apps as I think they don't really work, I think the Linux Kernel does a very good job standalone!!

About a day and a half.
JJ Hybrid 3.1
Governor Smartassv2
IO scheduler SIO
screen brightness around 25%
Always on 3G
Use WiFi frequently too.
lots of music + games!

here is my phone !
ROM : RayOnyom 6.2
kernel : xray last version
using prototype optimaztion
wifi = on if i need and available
gprs = only if i need internet
brightness = auto 25%
after 2d 8h u can see i have half battery
so sorry for my bad english !

A few weeks ago I tested battery life, too.
My system:
arcatarc's superleggiera ROM
stock kernel
screen: dim or 25%, depending on location
mobile data: off
wifi: only as needed
usage: one call a day (about 2 minutes), 5 minutes wifi per day, one hour e-book reading with kindle app per day
After 4 days and half an hour, battery state was 48%. Then I aborted the test because I was in the mood for some gaming

So what's draining my battery is the 3g/hspa enabled always.. hmm.. i should try a custom kernel.

about 16 hours.. of usage... i use no frills cpu for 1.1ghz to 184 ghz . i use smartassv2 and deadline

The battery is lasting up to three days
WIFI off in standby
only GSM
display brightness 50%
CPU 134 - 1209MHz, smartassV2

[APP] Msm7kCpuSpeed - Overclock Raphael/Diamond/Topaz/Rhodium/Blackstone/Whitestone

After LeoCpuSpeed to overclock the HD2, I've been working on overclocking the MSM7k SoC on the Raphael, with success. The same processor is present on the Diamond, Rhodium and the Topaz, so it should work on all of these devices. I've been able to underclock to 57MHz and overclock up to 710MHz, using small 19.2MHz steps. It can clock even further, but it depends on the quality of the processor in your device where the limit for you lies.
Supported devices
- Raphael
- Diamond
- Rhodium (check out this post for a nice guide and this app by oruam57 to prevent SOD)
- Topaz
- Blackstone
- Whitestone
- More?
Features
- The CPU speed is calculated from the actual clock registers, not via some dll or shady method.
- CPU speed is updated every 250ms (I haven't seen it auto-scale to other frequencies yet, but kept this feature from LeoCpuSpeed).
- A small dot blinks on each update so that you can see if your device hangs or not.
- Under- or overclock by moving the slider
- Automatically apply setting at boot
- While waiting for version 3 of this app, oruam57 made a little app that automatically scales down when the screen is off and overclocks again when exiting standby, effectively preventing SOD.
Notes on overclocking
1) AT YOUR OWN RISK
2) Only works while connected to AC power (depending on device)
3) The "604MHz" OC frequency is a special one. Only with this frequency set, you can remove AC power without having a lockup. So: after you overclock and want to remove your USB cable, set it to 604MHz first! You'll see it go back to the default 528MHz a second after you remove the cable. That's something the device does, not my app.
4) Overclocking while on battery gives insta-hang (for me). It seems this depends on the device.
5) Use "Apply at boot" wisely! If you use a setting that is unstable, your device may not boot up anymore! You'd need a hard-reset (factory settings).
When using TCPMP to benchmark the overclock, be aware that this tool overclocks the CPU, not the GPU.
Battery
I have not done any tests regarding battery life. The voltage to the processor is the same as when it is on 528MHz. It seems it cannot be increased. However, more speed will result in more heat, which means energy from your battery.
(And before you ask, I haven't performed any temperature tests either).

Versions
v2
- Enabled apply at boot option (Choose wisely, if your device hangs on boot, you'll need a hard reset)
- Fix app crash (trackbar exception) when going into standby
- Increased max freq to 902.4MHz for those fortunate enough
- SoD/hang on battery/etc not fixed yet
v1
- Initial release
Known issues
Q: My device hangs when unplugging from AC power
A: Read the overclock notes.
Q: When on battery and I press the "604MHz" button, it shows 604MHz for a brief second, and then goes back to "528MHz".
A: Some driver, module, or whatever in Windows Mobile enforces CPU speed every second, overriding the overclock. This is a known issue.
Q: My device hangs after standby (Sleep Of Death)
A: This is a known problem. Until fixed, only solution is to clock to "604" (the special frequency) before putting your phone away.
Q: Msm7kCpuSpeed crashes. When it does, and I click "details", it says something about System.Windows.Forms.Trackbar.set_Value.
A: This is a known problem. The app calculates frequency every 250ms. When the device goes into standby, there's a small window where the CPU is set to 19.2MHz, but my app isn't put to sleep by Windows Mobile yet. When in this small window, it calculates the frequency and updates the app, it crashes. This is because the lowest frequency in my app is 57.6MHz, and it can't find 19.2MHz (or 38MHz). Fixed in v2.

Sweet...testing!
Hi NetRipper,
i hope that's real . I have installed the app without any issue on my phone (signature).
After starting the app the 528 MHz was shown.
A max from 787 MHz was possible to set.
>>The "604MHz" OC frequency is a special one. Only with this frequency set, you can remove AC power without having a lockup
I was able to set the 787 MHz and disconnect the AC power and no hangup.
I have to test now the BatterLifeTime. But this is at the moment not so important.
I confirm that there is no lockup after disconnecting from USB.
Working on Blackstone
Hi NetRipper,
I can confirm your tool works on the Touch HD (Blackstone). Made a short benchmark using SKTools Integer Test:
Result:
Default 528Mhz: ~295
710Mhz: ~425
It really boosts CPU performance! Any chance to get this working in Battery Mode? As you wrote the device crashes when trying to set a higher Value in Battery Mode.
Thank you very much!
Works for me, both plugged in and unplugged.
@ stock speed interger test gives about 310,
@710 gives about 440,
tested unplugged @710 ~440,
tested unplugged, program exited @710 ~440.
THANKS!
ps. haven't tested lock screen.
ROM is JACKOS S2 full version with recommended radio

Thanks for letting me know it works on blackstone. Added that to the list.
I'm hoping I can get it to work in battery mode, but I still need to find the cause. I have the same issue on Leo also still, same cause probably. Will probably involve more disassembling and runtime patching to get this to work :s it's a pain.
Awesome... 750Mhz = 465
On battery working fine but I started in on AC though.
PS, unfortunately it is not quite stable at that speed but it looks cool anyway lol
Works on battery mode on Sprint Touch Pro 2. Max overclock of 768 without hangup. Exactly as when running Android!
Thank you for this wonderful app!

How are you testing stability...do you run it then exit and send the phone to sleep or standby for a few minutes?
Mine can go to standby (manually) but if I leave it there a few minutes then it wont come back.
Are you going to add "auto-apply at startup"?
Is it ok to cook this app into a rom?

Just happened to me as well. Going to set to 710 MHz and continue testing.
Sure you may cook it into your rom.
The reason "auto-apply at startup" is not enabled, is because it doesn't work on battery yet. Even for the guys where the phone doesn't hang, the overclock will be undone when on battery.
Or does the overclock stay active for some people on battery? I'd think it at least goes back to 528MHz.

That might be the same issue as when on battery. When it comes out of standby, it will try to set the clock speed again, causing the device to lock up. If you go to standby and go out of it right away, the device doesn't actually go into full-standby yet (it takes at least a few seconds before it does).
You can test stability by using SPB benchmark or something similar that does lots of calculations. I.e. I can clock it at 750MHz, but when I run a benchmark tool, it will hang. At 710MHz I'm stable.

I get the very same results on Rhodium (TP2) Verizon with MR2 rom in Battery mode.
If I do the quick standby (in and out) it works.
Letting the device go to sleep on its own locks the device and you have to do a battery pull to get it back.
Nice to see it come this far.
I set it to 710MHz and worked fine, unplugged the power cable and it stayed at 710MHz, but came back to check it about an hour later and it reverted to 528MHz as NetRipper said.
This is some great work NetRipper, hopefully you can figure out what in WinMo is reseting it on battery power.
Thanks again NetRipper.

Although that's a very nice idea it would be really difficult to extract safe results.A lot users don't know what services/apps running on background. What about widgets? What about settings on various apps? It's not the same checking weather every half hour and every 12 hours. Also some areas are poor on 3G signal so results will vary a lot.I propose for better results the following:
1. Roms installed just the way devs give them, no other modifications/installations except the program which measures battery drain.
2. 2G network settings with data transfer off.
3. Battery drain measurements over night at least 6 hours, 8 would be best and user should calculate his results e.g. 4% in 8 hours so 0.5% per hour.Calculating wont be that easy though, usually you'll have something like 4% in 7 hours and 23 minutes.
4. Battery should not be fully charged at the start of measurement, usually the ones that have a lot charging cycles drop quite fast from 100% to 95% .Under 90% is fine i think.
So conditions must be very specific otherwise it won't be fair for the roms makers

guys,
Let me ask one thing. every one , even 99% every one writing that they do not have any app running in background. then whats the used of Android phone ??
why we updated to ICS?
why we install unlimited apps?
the true battery backup should be specify some common background apps details .i.e. Facebook, gmail, whatapp. at least these should be running in background.
if some one nothing have in background then why buy Android phone why not just simple phone without any that gigz processor and ram's and gpu's etc.?
its not big deal having 1-2% without any app running in background. big deal is running multiple apps in BG and still its providing 1-2% battery per hours , well its not possible.

[Q] Average battery life on SGS 3

Hi,
I am thinking of making the jump from the iPhone 4S to the SGS 3 and just want some opinion in regards to the battery life.
Before I switch to iPhone 4S, I had the SGS 2 but the battery life was just poor (in my regards) and I couldn't stand it. I ended up selling it and getting the iPhone 4S due to the outstanding standby/music playback battery life.
One of the thing that bug me the most with SGS 2 was the fact that when I am using the music player (doesn't matter whether it is the stock music player or PowerAmp), it seems to drain the battery so much faster compare to the iPhone Music app even with the screen off. As I use the music player a lot when traveling to and from work, it is important that this problem is resolved in the latest SGS 3.
As for my daily usage, I use a lot of Whatsapp and couple of hours of Internet surfing and probably a couple of hours of music listening. Not much movies watching and games playing and probably will have one Google email account and one Good Mobile account for my work mail.
Do you think the SGS 3 will even last through my average day?
Thanks!
D
From your description of your usage I would guess you would have about 50% of your battery left at the end of the day.

I unplugged my phone yesterday at 6:15am, played 5-10 minutes of Rage of Bahamut every other hour (data intensive game) listened to 6 hours of music in work, downloaded and flashed the OTA update, an hour solid browsing on the bus while listening to music, played another more of Rage of Bahamut, installed a few apps and updates over WiFi when I got home, 20 minutes of ShadowGun, about 30 texts to/from the mrs, a few phone calls and I still had about 48% at 7:00pm so you will be fine.

All stock with the recent OTA update, the problem is though, depending on your modem, signal strength, network, brightness settings, apps installed, push notifications, etc etc then battery life can vary wildly for the same phone on the same ROM.

thanks for the reply.
and yes i would have set the screen to auto brightness if only it wasn't too dark for low light rooms etc. many peeps have noticed this too, that auto brightness in sgs3 has a lower threshold.

you don't find the stock rom's autobrightness a bit too dark for unlighted rooms?
cause many of us do.
Actually I tend to find it too bright at times. That being said the main reason for your battery drain is having your screen at max brightness all the time. If you don't like auto brightness I would advise you to set it manually. There are plenty of apps that allow you to do this easily. My preference is an app called invisibright. I rarely have my screen at more than 60%. Most of the time it more likely to be at about 20%.

have it any lag in browser? this lag will be improve in android 4... this ture??????
i very love this phone but i Fear!
Hello,
I recently bought an Xperia P. I'm pretty satisfied. The performance is super and you have naver seen such a bright display. The battery drain is pretty high, but I'm used to that from my mini - although I think it has a lower drain than the mini.
The Camera is good, but I expected it to be better. I didn't take many pictures until now, but I would say that it's just slightly better than my 5MP cam from the mini.
Browsing with Firefox is pretty fast.
When the official ICS is out, FXP and AOKP are going to support it!!!
Overall I just love my Xperia P and don't regret my decision.

Trust me if you got the settings right the battery easily lasts for a full day with constant connection of mobile data & using WiFI whenever available.
After ICS the score of the device & it's performance will also improve. GB is not completely optimized for dual cores where as ICS is so just wait & watch.
Xperia U has a very limited memory while the P has 2 GB for Applications & 11.26 GB as internal storage which comes in total as 13GB. This total available user memory will also improve with ICS. I own this phone for two months & I am completely satisfied with it as I for me it is not causing any problems.
If you have any further queries then post here.

I am still at 42%
My mobile connection is always on with autosync on except in night with the Sony power saver app.
Got GPS disabled as google maps detect my location without GPS too through network. Use Bluetooth rarely. I set brightness to 0% as soon as I enter my home & back to auto when I leave. [ There is a widget available for this ]
I have my WiFi connected occasionally. I do not use a live wallpaper. [ It will drain your battery a bit more ]
I have avast antivirus, antitheft, whatsapp, viber, tango always running in the background & sometimes Skype. Weather update automatic 1 hour. Have disabled facebook feed retrieval interval as I can easily see whenever I open the app. Though it's notifications are always on with messenger too.
I use internet VoIP services average 4 times for call in whole day of average 5 minutes duration. [ Different service as required ]
Here are my screenshot.

I have turned off the data backup in the privacy settings as it consumed quite a bit of battery & I have my contacts & calendar all safe with autosync & use PC companion for settings backup. In autosync I have my two gmail accounts synced & others have been kept off as it is not necessary.
Earlier I used to worry about battery calibration & percentage a lot but Iearned that the apps that measured it used to eat much battery & I also a read a post here on Xda about modern batteries. It don't remember it's link. Sometimes we think that battery is not charging or it dropped to quickly. Just give it 5 minutes & it will change the percentage to it's true level. This happens due to the room temperature you are in. It stops charging after a certain level even if it is not 100% as set by the manufacturer.
So basically just forget about the battery percentage & whenever you get a chance charge your phone & enjoy your smartphone. Moreover our device got speed charging so it charges superfast when charged via EP850 charger. If you were not supplied that then try getting one.
Can you post a screenshopt from the percentages under your battery graph ? I want to see how much is the "DISPLAY" and how long is it open in these 14 hours

[UPDATED][TUTORIAL] Have better Battery Life on TW 5.1.1

With this guide, I was capable of having my phone on for 3 days with 1h of screen-on time, and 7h of screen-on time with YouTube and WiFi turned on.
Code:
I WON'T PROMISSE YOU YOU'LL HAVE THE SAME BATTERY LIFE I DID, BUT I'LL GIVE YOU THE STEPS I TOOK TO HAVE IT.
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCURR TO YOUR DEVICE.
With which ROM/ROMs is this tutorial compatible?
Theoretically, this tutorial is compatible with any TW 5.1.1 ROM based on MotionROM, but it was only tested in Project Lucky.
What do we need?
First, we need to have Xposed Framework installed. We also need root acess, but that comes pre-installed in the ROM.
Apps we need:
BatteryCalibration
GravityBox [LP]
Greenify (Donation Package)
PowerNap
Setting up the apps:
Greenify
First, we'll disable the auto-hibernation, because that's eats some of our precious battery. After that, we need to go to "Experimental Resources" and change the working mode to "Impulsive", then check the "Apply Greenify to system apps" and "Reveal hidden synchronization" (you can check some of the screenshots bellow).
Now, the rest is very easy, I'll give you guys a list of safe system apps to hibernate, and you simply need to hibernate those. And also, hibernate every 3rd app you install (except PowerNap), specially chat and social networks apps, those are the most battery hungry.
Calculator
Cloud Together
Camera
E-mail (both)
Studio
Galaxy Apps
Galaxy Essentials Widget
Gallery
Smart Manager
Google Play Store
Voice Recorder
Internet
Magnifying Glass/Magnifier
Music
My Files
S Planner
S Voice
Samsung Notes
Exchange Service
upday (unless you use the launcher page)
Video
Weather (unless you use the weather widget)
PS: this list was taken from Project Lucky, because it's the ROM I'm currently using.
________________________________________________
PowerNap
This one is very easy to configure. All we need to do is activate "Endurance Mode" and then tap on it. Now we tap on "Activation" and we drag the green ball all the way to the right, and check the "Enable while charging" box (you can check some screenshots below).
________________________________________________
GravityBox [LP]
Now, this one has some more steps comparing to the other ones, but it's very simple too. Go to "Display Tweaks", then "Brightness Settings". Activate it and then put the "Minimum brightness level" to 1 (check the screenshots below if you need).
Configuring the kernel:
If you didn't flash SkyKernel by @SoUnd001, then do it before following the next steps. You can download it here. To configure the kernel we're gonna need an app called Kernel Adiutor. To be able to run this app, we need to have BusyBox installed. If your ROM doesn't come with BusyBox pre-installed, you can install it using an app called BusyBox. So, with the app open, we need to go to the "CPU" tab and change the "CPU Governor" from "ondemand" to "smartmax", then tap on "CPU Governor Tunables" and change the value of "enable_boost_cpu" to 0. Now, we must go to the "CPU Hotplug" tab and change the value of "CPUs Boosted" to 2 and the value of "Boost Lock Duration" to 1. Now, go to the "GPU" tab and change the "GPU Governor" to "simple_ondemand" (if you need some help check the screenshots below).
PS: in some cases, you'll lose root when you flash the kernel. To fix that, simply flash this.
Other tips for a better battery life:
Disable any kind of synchronzation
Disable WiFi, Mobile Data, GPS and etc when you're not using them
Keep Power Saving Mode always on
Keep the phone's brightness at the minimum possible
Keep auto-brightness disabled
Reboot your phone when you unplug it off the charger (connecting to the PC applies to this too)
Uninstall any app related to Facebook, like Facebook itself and Messenger
I have lose root after flash of kernel

That happens if you flash the kernel. But to get the root access again, simply flash this.
And btw, thank you for reporting that bug that I known but I forgot. Anyway, that information was added in the thread, so if anyone experience that bug too, they'll have the solution in the thread
But again, thank you

Hahaha...its easyer to simply Power off the phone
For ME ,skype,FB,viber, email was minimum to alltime runs on device.
Some tips to battery save:
automatic brightness off...change it manualy because sensor drains batt.
If not bánt fast drain simply disable mobile data ....wifi on 24h US aproximately 8-10mah...useless to disable if not connected at any Network...
With thats, with factory batt u rease circa 4-4.5h of screen on time ,at 75%wifi and 25%mibile data use.
Cpu settings not significantly influent the battery drain.Just overclock or power draining governor mode was result fast drain.
My suggestion is: ondemand or factory...
io: @tw use factory settings... @CM bfq 512M or 256M.
GPS was not significantly results draining.
Extra sized battery not recommended because kernels not able to correct use of it... just with replace it and restart the phone was resulting longer using time... my 7200mah anker after 3 replace and restart, results circa 3.5days and 10-12 h ours of screen time... of course with higher mobile data using this times was shorter.
I hope thats helps anybody

Bro, if you simply turn off your phone, you won't receive calls.
Thank you for reminding me of the automatic brightness one, I really forgot about it
And yes, CPU Settings will influenciate the battery a lot. You really don't know how governors work, right? And with those instructions, I disabled the CPU Boost, a function that's not needed in most of the cases. And yes, overclocks and the "power draining" governor aka performance governor drains more, but every bit of battery is precious.
And btw, bro, OnDemand is the factory CPU Governor. Please do some research before posting.
But, anyway, thank you ^^
