So i know HTC put apt-X on the ONE series. and my Galaxy S3 has it. I'm also testing this phone out, but can't find any info on whether they put apt-X for improved bluetooth audio on this phone. Can anyone link to any documentation showing whether or not?
This is actually more important to me than Beats integration.

I, too, would like to know this. I'm considering buying a head unit for my car w/bluetooth, but only if it and the phone support apt-X.

so im really getting ahead of myself here, but how long do you think it will be before we see a hacked camera and audio boost app? it took quite a while for them to appear on the first galaxy s.. i cant imagine having to go back to the old camera, where i have to stop music to take a picture, and camera is broken if my battery is 15% or lower.. as far as audio boost apps, what needs to happen in order for them to be created? i never really understood that behind the scenes work, does someone need to crack some software or something complicated? or is it something we might see right away? or better yet, since the galaxy s2 is based off the s1, would the galaxy s specific apps work on the s2?
for the audio boost like voodoo sound they have to add an additional audio driver onto the kernel stack.
i'm not sure if the sgs2 will use the same audio chip as the original sgs though, that's something the devs will have to look into

The guys over at the desire hd forum section have come up with a custom rom for the device made out of a leaked ruu from the unreleased HTC Runnymede. The rom has one feature that will certainly be very desirable in the next couple of weeks, Beats Audio. Now as i understand, the beats integration should be mostly software(like the beats audio laptops from HP). SO, the question is that can it be soft ported to the SGSII?
p.s. oh and if im in the wrong section, do tell
BTW, HTC Sensation XE is another beats audio device(can be used as anothet source!)
Fantastic idea. Would love to see this at our sgs2.
Maybe you could contact the vodoo developer. It think it's supercio. He's is very friendly.

Although he is a very friendly person indeed, I doubt that he'll start implementing this for SGS2. The reason is the same as for the lack of Voodoo Sound feature, a different and a bit less efficient sound chip used in SGS2 (The original SGS has Wolfson WM8994 and Samsung replaced it with Yamaha MC-1N2 in SGS2). I'd see it more likely for the original SGS :-/
people telling Cyanogen much better
oh and The Galaxy S II uses audio hardware manufactured and branded by Yamaha
Doesnt matter who made the hardware.. Do you think they put monster equipment in all hp laptops? As with all such marketing gimmicks, this has to be software based tweaks and heaven knows we need better audio output
great idea !! anyone tried it on other hardware ?? is it working with monster beats without pilot or it neets to be with pilot edition ?? and will there work monster beats with pilot (iphone edition) i mean as i know ther is diffrent polarisation in jacks... so we need to wait for new editions of earphones ??
Im supporting this yeahh.. must admit that the audio output ftom sgs2 is weak indeed.. my old htc desire sounds better even with cheaper earphones... and i really dont like the 'fakeness bass sound' in SGS2
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
(UNRELATED QUESTION) i just recalled another feature in our phones that needed some usage, fm transmission. I read somewhere on xda before launch that the broadcom chipset inside had nnot only BT 4.0 but also this capability. I for one, think that fm transmission is one killer feature

Not only that, but you'd think those developers would agree that since audio on the SGS2 is actually worse, the need for such software is even greater... I can't understand why they won't develop it where it's obviously most needed...

Put simply, the sound from the S2 is FLAT with hardly any bass. You may also hear regular interference like hissing sounds due to the phone's design.
Even simpler, the audio output of the S2 = horrible
Are there any news ?

Hello, everyone!
Now we have enough devices with aptX support (HTC One series, SGS III, SGT's, Moto Razr) and number of headphones supporting aptX is also increasing. So it would be useful to gather info on this technology. Please ask your questions here, hope this thread will be useful.
My question is - does custom ROMs (Miui, CM) supports aptX codec as it is in stock ROMs of mentioned devices? Is it integrated in Kernel, or separately in Rom?
P.S. I have bluetooth headphones senheiser PX360 BT with this technology and Moto Razr XT910.

I'd like to know the same (and have the same headphones) but I can never seem to get an answer.
I've started to look around in the kernel source for myself....
Bump. Interested as well.
Me too - am considering putting the SuperNexus ROM on my S3 to give me a "pure" Android experience, but not sure if going away from a Samsung based ROM will make me lose apt-x?
Apt-X whit Costom-ROM?

The only way is to try it by yourself.
Play a "FLAC" file over Bluetooth with Costom-ROM.
If it is playing apt-x seems to work. If not then bull**** .
I use my Tab 7 Plus only for MP3 and I don't really need to flash a Costom like my mobil's.
But if some body try it out please tell us.
Me three. I might be going out on a limb but it's likely AptX is nothing more than a different codec and uses the same hardware as typical BT A2DP.
To gain further insight one could compare system dumps from related phones(hardware and OS) where AptX and non-AptX is the difference.
Using logcat to determine aptX connectivity
Looking into the following thread and googling a little bit I was able to determine aptX codec is being used when connecting LG HBS-730 and SGH-T999 Galaxy SIII running XquiziTv35 TouchWiz JB leak based ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917962
I used the following adb command to save a detailed logcat in a text file:
adb logcat -v long > logcat.txt
Then I just searched within the file for aptX and violà "codec type set to aptx" found. :victory:
I can also confirm aptX does not work on CM10, at least at the moment. AptX is a proprietary codec and it seems to be within the TouchWiz framework.

Found nothing similar to "aptx" in log on stock firmware Moto Razr XT910. Any other key words to search?
apt-x is touchwiz only for the g3. asop roms will not have it. its hard to port because its not open source.

Not really...
i would be awesome if some android developer could reverse engineer this i've got a Bluetooth speaker with apt-x support but my nexus doenst support it
i thought it was just an algortim so in theory every phone should be able to implement it ?
anybody works to port apt-x codec? sbc is so bad
Does anyone know where the APT-X codec is stored on TW?
I would like to experiment a little by adding that codec to a ROM that does not have it.
I have an i337 Galaxy S4.
Hi
any help from a developer welcome:

I've started a PLEDGE thread to get APT-X flashable zip for AOSP ROM's.
Please go show your support for APT-X:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531440
Out of curiosity, does Phoenix ROM (I'm at 16.7 now) have APT-X since it's still mainly Touchwiz behind?
How do I confirm this?
Call for aptX test recordings
As the list of devices supporting aptX become longer SoundExpert is going to add aptX (bluetooth) codec to its testing system. This will help to evaluate perceptual quality of the codec in comparison with SBC which is in SE ratings for a long time already.
Unfortunately the only reliable way of making aptx test recordings is using of some hardware with digital output. Also some aptX-enabled source of signal is necessary (phone, tablet, laptop …). While SE is looking for such devices I would like to ask xda-developers to help with these recordings too. Further details can be found in the article “Audio quality of bluetooth aptX” on SoundExpert site.
Tanks in advance.

Thanks, I looked through the whole thread you pointed and still have the same problem. The only thing that I need is to encode-decode some special audio sequence and it should be done with some stock hardware. The point of posting in this thread was a supposition that people here have both interest in measuring superiority of aptX over SBC and corresponding hardware/software for encoding-decoding aptX stream.

I have the powerbeats by beats by dre
The issue I have is that if I don't have music playing (I use PowerAmp pro) I can make and receive calls fine although the volume button etc doesn't work through the head phones. My biggest issue is that if I have music playing I cannot hear or speak throuh the headset. I need to use the phone. I am running Jellybean, international S3 I9300

The box says iphone and android. Blasted LIARS!!!!
Oh well, that's a $129 down the drain. Didn't sound that much better either if at all...........
The issue with there being so many Android OEM's is that they have different standards for the headset jack and ect. I think that the Powerbeats only work with HTC devices
Yeah this is definately a bummer. The talk control thingy was not working on Some of the old htc devices but a updated kernal fixed that and I had total control talk via handsfree and also skip back forward music etc.
Can this issue with beats headphone just lye with a kernal issue or is it definately headphones compatability issue with s3 . definately not android issue. Buttons issue was fixed due to the p2pjack kernal for desire hd.
I can on listen and control my music through headphones but not able to accept calls or talk.

Here is a funny thing.
I had a custom ROM and I've since flashed to stock. No change
I have a co worker with a stock S3 running 4.1.1 and it works perfect both my beats and her beats. I try it in a Note 2 with custom ROM works perfect. I try it in a Note 2 with stock ROM works perfect. I try it with another stock s# running 4.1.1 doesn't work.........
We're suppose to get in a new batch today, I will try the headsets with that and if it works I will list my device as faulty and swap out.
Every other headset works on my phone except beats.
OK, I think I've narrowed it down. It's a connection issue. I found that if I play with how far in I put the ead set piece into the phone determines whether it works or not. I found that with the piece inserted maybe a millimeter before being completly in it works........
None of the methods work for me. PowerBeats on ATT S3 4.1.1 I hate this so much. They work perfectly on my work phone! Blackberry 9900. Are you kidding me... works on blackberry but not the S3....?
Anyone find a trick or fix? Connections on stock Samsung headset and PowerBeats match up perfectly.
Although they are great earphones, looks like they won't work on any other phone or laptop.
I tried on my XPS, and my friend's S8, and it doesn't work at all. This may be to enable the noise cancelling software? But I would have thought it could work without it on phones where that's not enabled.
Has anyone got it working on another device?
Hopefully HTC releases a driver / update.
They are made specifically for the HTC U 11. Why would there be an driver release or update for anything other than it?
Also people have stated that the earphones work on the S8.
