[Q] Back to stock for the Galaxy 10.1? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I was hoping someone could direct me to the back to stock file so I can unroot this galaxy tab 10.1 I had a friend root it for me, but I honestly, at least for this tablet have had nothing but problems. I cannot stand the inconsistancies, and lack of camera use. I did a restore to what I thought was stock, but the tab is still rooted and while I have functionality of the camera's back, the pictures are terrible and grainy.
If someone has a link, or anything helpful to get this tablet back to stock/factory settings for I'd love it. I have been currently trying to fix this. I loved this tablet until it got rooted. Please help.

Uninstall superuser.
And use root explorer to remove "SU" file from: /system/bin/SU or /system/xbin/SU

Howndo you uninstall superuser. This whole rooting madness is driving me crazy. Ive yet to see any real benefit to it. At least on my tab.

download & flash ICS 4.0.4 released for italy via odin.
you can google how to get into download mode and flash via odin.
after flashing, go to recovery mode and wip/factory reset -> reboot.
then enjoy the ICS 4.0.4

Or just get the OTA version available now.

I've flashed from rooted ICS to HC 3.2, and then updated back to ICS via OTA with no problems.

Unsure if this thread will even be seen anymore, but I just saw an article for the program triangle away. Since I have flashed this tab several times, I am about to send it into the mfg for repair for the cable charge problem it was having. I'm wondering. Will I need to unroot this tab again, use triangle away and reflahs again? Or is this model exempt from the flash counter?

i don't think there is a flash counter, but i may be wrong. someone nice enough to check?
EDIT:
Actually, yes, yes there is a flash counter. It says
Custom Binary Download: No (0 counts)
I'm looking at my GT-P7510 right now as we speak.

Uh oh, looks like I gotta do a couple things before I send it back then. Thanks!

[Q] Home Made Gadget to Remove "!" Logo when Booting- S2

Hey guys,
Anyone of u knows how to remove the exclamation mark on the screen after booting (galaxy s2). I rooted my phone and flashed the rom. Each and everytime i boot my phone, the logo comes out. I need a very simple but home made solution to solve this problem. Its annoying to see that logo. I read somewhere about this but i couldn't find it anymore and what is the technical word for the device to get rid of this logo. Please enlighten me guys. Thanks.
You are thinking of a usb jig to remove that and reset the counter.
You can also remove it using without any devices by following the instructions in the cf-root thread, but that leaves the counter untouched.
Or if you are on a ICS based rom you can get rid of both with the Triangle away app with the click of a button.
you need a usb jig (hardware service mode starter)
if it doesn't work, you need to flash older firmware with odin
and then use the jig again. finally flash the prefered rom with cwm
EDIT
didn't see shadowofdarkness had already answer
Thanks

Hey thanks man. well... i just started this rooting **** actually 2 weeks ago. I bought my galaxy s2 for about 9 months.... and it was really annoying because it takes ages for samsung kies to released an new official update. Can u believe i was still using gingerbread 2.3.3 before this. Man.. i got even more fed up when i saw my brother's new phone galaxy nexus which uses ICS 4.0 Rom. So i said to myself... thats it. i am going to root this stupid S2. hahaha.
Then i started to root and change to 2.3.6 which is great but still the same interface as 2.3.3. Just performance wise better. I need a new nice interface like the ICS 4.0. so i flashed my rom with wanamlite 8.9 which is a damn good rom. i love it. u guys should try his rom. If u guys know a even better rom, let me know. Thanks

[Q] Check For Update issue after root

hello all,
i have followed entropy512's thread here to get my at&t samsung galaxy s2 rooted with stock settings...i then wanted clockworkmod recovery so i went to this and followed directions to get everything installed...everything was ok and working until a few weeks ago when the 'Check Update' option under Setting stopped working...
basically what happens is when i goto Settings-> Software Update->Check for updates->Hit OK (Check the AT&T server for new software update?) a dialog comes up that says 'Checking for software updates...' and nothing happens...i have left the phone over night with device management app checking for software updates... when this used to work, it took less than 1 minute to check...
finally, the only way for me to stop this is to go and force stop Device Manager under Applications->All, so before i restore the phone to factory, i was wondering if anyone knows what might be the issue here?
Thanks,
FI

OTA updates require factory recovery. I'm a bit hazy on the details but I believe CWM, in short, replaces that.
It might also be because you either turned off/uninstalled or inadvertently removed factory bloatware.

This. Amongst other things. If u insist on trying to eventually upgrade to whatever crap gets pushed out to us yer best bet is to do a full wipe to completely stock firmware.

once again, the issue is not weather i should worry about updates or not nor did i search for if i should worry about updates...this option was working and something happened that caused it to stop working...and my searches i did was around getting device management to connect to the dm server (which is where the 'Checking for update' got stuck)

both of you seem to be spot on...i didnt realize that removing bloatware which was marked as 'ok to remove' on the document of things to remove safely could have been the issue...initially i had frozen them using titanium...neway i restored the phone using the CWM backup i had and the option started working like expected...thanks for the input
I'm curious...why do you want that option to work?

Do you recall all the issues with UCKK6 Gingerbread? That was an AT&T release. The devs had to tear it apart to debug and try to fix it. Any build will have bugs in it. But generally, custom firmwares will have fewer bugs than AT&T firmware.

if my research that i conducted a while ago is right, then basically samsung has implemented a flash counter which increments each time you flash a custom, non-stock rom...it might also be applied to non-stock kernels/firmwares as well (im not too sure)...so to prevent the flash counter from ever incrementing, ill need to put the phone in download mode using the jig and continue from there...

This is wrong. It is only incremented when you use ODIN to flash nonstock items. CWM has no bearing on flash counters.

You have some bad information...but I have some good news for you.
The flash counter only counts the number of times you've flashed a custom kernel in download mode via Odin. Using CWM to flash anything can't touch the flash counter. Same goes for Mobile Odin. I've been rooted and flashing for months, I don't have a jig, and my counter is still at zero.

Any GB issues only surfaced if you updated to 2.3.6. 2.3.4 for a "stock" firmware was pretty awesome. I'm on the latest ICS leak from ATT (LD4) and aside from the emmc bug (I'm using a safe kernel so I don't have it) IMHO its more complete then CM9 was. I stopped using CM9 at the end of May and don't miss it at all now.

I reccomend roms that use i9100 bases as they are usually better, roms like phonebricker, and shostock2 are good, my favorite touchwiz based rom though is serendipity 9. But thats my experiences so try them for yourself (i use aokp as my daily though.)

[Q] GT-i9300, If rooted , cant have OTA update?

My phone is GT-i9300, original stock ROM is ICS, and i have update to JB through OTA which give me XXDLJ1.
Then I root my phone by :-
1. download mode, flash CF auto root via Odin.
2. restart, install Triangle Away and reset the flash counter back
I just want to have root.
So, the question is, why I'm getting "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"
If root , then can not check for OTA update anymore?
Or is there any other way? To have root only and everything else like just stock and can check/download OTA again in the future.
Thanks in advance XDA

Thats a question that I was about to ask. . I'm having a few problems with my S3, and I want to correct them but I need root.
I also want to keep it stock, I was a flash addicted with my previous phone, but now I don't have time and I just want something that works, and I want also to be able to check for updates. .

Thanks for replying,
I'm coming from Galaxy S1, to S2 and now S3, and Samsung is not the same anymore for me, They really listen to the customer, and always improve their UI and apps. S3 is a solution/improvement for all S2 n S1 complaints.
So, it is really nice to see some app/mod which originate from here at first, been integrate to stock rom of s3 e.g. the toggle, n the lack of led light of s2 n s1
Btw, development means, to make something unusable to become usable,, to make something good to be better.
I think, it is really convenience to just have OTA instead need to find a PC just to hv update.
As my S2, i gain root just by flashing temp CWM recovery through stock 3e recovery n then flash root. It simple as that.

Just use mobile odin if you want to flash any stock roms without needing a pc. Youll get the update far quicker via xda/sammobile than waiting for an OTA one anyway

ive flashed stock rom and stock recovery and still have the custom unlocked padlock.. any ideas? i need to go back to verizon since i messed up my sim and 4g is broken.

I have the same issue. I had jellybean. I think it was 4.2.2, rooted it and then they pushed the OTA kitkat 4.4.2. I lost my root and I'd really like to get rid of that padlock screen now. Problem is people keep saying I can use triangle away to reset the binary counter and that will get rid of it. Can't do that without it being rooted though. Some say just re flash with the stock firmware. I'd do it if I could find the file but some say that doesn't work anyway. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Ive read somewhere on here that it may be something on you external sd card , possibly old " hack , root " files from a previous phone?
Also if busy box was ever installed that would need to be removed. There's probably something else I'm forgetting. But if your phone just has that custom screen.... Verizon doesn't really care i can tell you from personal experience.

Thanks for the reply. I read those responses but mine didn't have the padlock out of the box. I just figured maybe someone found a way to get rid of it by now after the KitKat OTA removed their root. Perhaps re flashing the stock rom, which I can't find, might do it. And I did look around with no luck.
Eh. No biggie. It's not affecting the performance of the phone. I'm just being anal. I guess I can live with it. Thanks again.

Eh. No biggie. It's not affecting the performance of the phone. I'm just being anal. I guess I can live with it. Thanks again.

Are you having jellybean or higher Android? In that case you need to uninstall ChainFire 3D from ADB or Recovery. If JB+ OS, tell me and I help you. Do you have computer and USB cable?

Wrong version of the phone. He has the AT&T model.
OP - Do you know which update you were / are on? If you have 4.3, then you CAN NOT downgrade without risk of really getting into trouble and possibly hard bricking it. If you have not taken the 4.3, and you want to continue to modify your phone, don't install 4.3.
If you have taken the 4.3 update, you'll have to follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
If you have not, then follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423
and stop at 4.1.2.
how do I check the version?

sorry I'm a noob I used this tutorial http://phonerebel.com/how-to-root-a...-4-1-1-verizonattsprintt-mobilei9300-version/
Well, ok, but you didn't answer my question about the update...
And it doesn't help to tell me what guide you used without telling me which file you downloaded.

I'm asking what software version is ON your phone?
And you probably have the file still on your computer, I'd imagine, to get the name...?
It said in the video 4.1.2 or something like that

its in title
Version
Okay so its 4.1.2 now i followed the tutorial and just awaiting on the download! Wish me luck :highfive:
I am not sure how I could be more clear when I asked which version of the software is on your phone. It doesn't matter what the guide said it was for, it matters what is ON your phone before you start. If you were on 4.3 before and you did anything 4.1.2 related, this would be why you are in this situation in the first place. Knowing this would and should have been the first step to any attempt to modify your phone. If, for some reason you don't know (argh!), then the easiest way I can think of would be by the Settings app. Was it tabbed with 4 different options across the top or just one long list that you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see everything?
The tabbed Settings didn't come by till 4.3 for your phone.
Yes it had 4 tabs
I put the 1.4.2 update on the sd card and tried to install in and it showed a android guy with a red triangle... Did i brick my phone? :crying:
Nvm not bricked
I can still do everytjing as before just stuck at Galaxy s3 logo... I need to unistall chainfire 3d but cant get into my phone
I really need my phone fixed
So what do i do im starting to think it cant be fixed :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

I've been watching this thread since you opened it. Why would you use Chainfire 3D to root your phone?
CF Auto Root would of been the better method for attaining root. The previous mentioned program isn't for what you attempted to use it for. Can you get into download mode?

Assuming u are still able to boot into download mode, download the stock ROM of whatever version u were originally on (u can find them on SamMobile) and flash it via Odin

I used cf auto root
SO just download the stock and flash it via odin?
Problem!
I searched sammobile and didnt find the 4.3 update and thats what version my phone was before rooting it. So im pretty sure if I try and flash it I will brick my phone.... Does anyone else know where to get that update at? And yes I can get into download and recovery the only update is found were here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I747&pcode=ATT#firmware
