Updating Radios - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Can some please give a knowledgeable answer on what is needed and not needed to upgrade the radios. Does S-ON or S-OFF is needed or can it just be done with root and unlocked. Read many articles/posts but everyone just keeps contradicting each other. Please provide steps so everyone stops asking questions or making comments that are not correct, thanks.

need to be s-off to flash radio's..... just copy the file to the root of your sdcard reneme it to just PJ75IMG Them flash it via bootloader it will ask if u want to update then press volume up to do so.. after its done reboot and your golden.. ohh and after it boots up delete the file off your sdcard.. if u dont it your bootloader will find it everytime and try and update again.. so just delete it..

I flashed the radio just fine without s-off in recovery....

Thank you. I will try this today using both methods to see what works. Will report back with findings.

you CAN flash radios with s-on through recovery, if you want everything else you need to be s-off. there is a thread labeled radios that tells you this.

You can flash the radio, but the PRI won't be written.
Best just to flash the new firmware through bootloader if you can still get S-off.

the above post is correct. Download the Radio Zip and place it in your SD card. install using TWRP.

evo 3d PG86IMG not flashing

I was trying to flash the PG86IMG in Hboot on my phone after I acquired s-off and it is not working for some reason... I can still get into Team win recovery and still have root and s-off, this pg86img just isn't flashing for some reason.
Is this any signifigance? I also noticed when I tried to flash a rom, it did not work and I had to do my Nandroid recovery.
Any way to fix this so I can install the radio?
Are you trying to flash a radio? Make sure PG86IMG is on the root of you sdcard. Not in any other folder or else the hboot won't see the file. And make sure it is named exactly PG86IMG.zip not PG86IMG.zip.zip. if this doesn't work try using fastboot commands instead, those always work better for me anyways.

What exactly do you mean when you say that it isn't working? Is the bootloader not detecting the file when it scans, or does it find it and then fail to flash when you say yes? What didn't work when you tried flashing a rom? Did it give you an error, or did you get bootloops or something?
i don't think he knows he is not suppose to flash it.
boot into your bootloader and it will run a scan and hit yes if you want to update
okay, so I went into bootloader where it says s-off, I try to update through there, when I click yes to update, it fails. When I tried to flash a rom, it just went to the HTC screen and did nothing. It is weird because my phone is working fine and has root and s-off still...

Does it still say revolutionary at the top of your bootloader? I've seen that some people ran an RUU, still had S-off, but weren't able to flash any unsigned files with the bootloader. They also reported that after running the RUU, the pink Revolutionary banner at the top of the hboot was missing. They had to re-run the Revolutionary tool in order for it to work again. Did you happen to run an RUU at any point in time? If not, ignore.
The only other thing I'd guess is that maybe you got a bad download. Did you check the md5 checksum? If the file is corrupt, redownload it and try flashing it again. Good luck.
Nope! I ran the revolutionary tool and I still have the banner at the top of the menu. It successfully flashed one of the roms on here, rebooted after following all instructions and it was stuck on htc screen.
Also I noticed when I flashed my recovery i had to flash two times in order for it to work..
EDIT: How would I check if the md5 checksum is good or bad? Went through flashing process too and it did say it flashed sucessfully
How do I check if the md5 checksum is good or bad?
PG86IMG.zip
Question. why are you flashing a PG86IMG.zip you already have s off if its just to flash a new radio then the one you have is giving you problem's which i dout but if thats what your wanting to do then so be it all you have to do is download the PG86IMG.zip after that open your dowload folder and long press onthe file and copy it to the root folder of your sd card and then power off and then battery pull then place battery back in and now press volume down and power now you should be in bootloader let it scan for the file then it will ask start update volume up for yes and the update has started but this only work's when you have downloaded the corect PG86IMG.zip file so make sure before you go flashing radio's because if you flash the wrong one well lets just say you will have a new paper waight so make sure you read up on it before flashing

I'm not sure i am rooted. All I did was unlock the Bootloader. I was unable to flash a recovery thats why I'm not sure if I am rooted. When I hit the volume down and power it takes me to the fastboot skreen. it says unlocked at the top but I still have S-On.

Uh? what command prompt,tools section??????
What you did? You need to install Flash image gui app from anywhere. Its an apk app to be installed on phone
I wrote clearly again on what to do....
what i told you is this:
Be sure you are rooted with hboot 1.50
If you want to flash kernels and roms without using PC then just follow these steps:
1.Copy any ROM.zip (Zip file of a valid ROM you downloaded..... it maybe from 95mb to 410mb of size) and recovery.img (link given below) to root of SD card.
2.Download and open Flash Image GUI and select recovery image option and flash the recovery.img by using flash image button (also check wipe dalvik & wipe cache) Then it will prompt to reboot and tap no.
3.Then select kernel image in Flash Image GUI and Select the Rom.zip that you copied to SD Card in above step and flash it using flashimage button (also check wipe dalvik & wipe cache) .Then it will prompt to reboot and tap no.
4.Then switch off your 3vo manually.
5.Then boot into bootloader by pressing volume down+power button..
6.Select Recovery and press power button and recovery will boot.
7.In recovery go to wipe menu select wipe cache , wipe everything ,dalvik etc
8.Then press go back and select flash zip from sd card and select Synergy_3Dvo_Superwipe.zip
9.Then again go back and select flash zip from sd card and select Synergy_Format_Data_EXT4_Optimized.zip.
10.Then again go back and select flash zip from sd card and select the same ROM.zip.
11.Finally reboot the phone and voila!! you got it to workwithout PC.
You could flash any rom Sense/Aosp
Make sure the ROM.zip file is a valid sense/aosp rom.
Here are the files you will need:

[Q] Help! How do i root My HTC EVO 3D

I have Looked around, and i tried to follow n-God i think it was and it didnt work, i have searched and tried different tutorials or techniques, my problem is that i have to unlock my HTC EVO 3D which i have done using the official HTC unlock website, and now i have to downgrade, to hboot 1.49.0007/8 because i am on 1.49.0018, i know what to do after i downgrade ( use revolution ) but i just cant get it to downgrade, it is a uk phone so its GSM and EMEA i think, so can someone post a step by step with links or a video thanks
I don't have an idea but take a look at the stickies in the gsm section of the EVO 3D and then if nothing look in general. And most of all read everything.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Hi firstly I'm a complete noob too. I'm in exactly the same situation as you. A UK gsm with .018 hboot only reason I have not tried the downgrade yet is my phone is still away for repair. Anyway from what I understand from that guide is you bypass the first 3 steps as you and I don't need to change cid as we got European phones hence the correct cid. And it does day make sure you relock your bootloader if its unlocked. (step 3) and I think it has to say locked and not relocked. I hope this is of some help as I said I'm a complete novice and will be following the guide when my phone returns so let me know if it works and if someone points out anything I've said is wrong I apologise I'm just trying to help
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
This is how i s-offed mine, i put together a quick guide for a different forum:
- it is for GSM european phones with the required CID already.
You can check your cid with : fastboot getvar cid
1. Follow this guide from point 4 as our CID is already as required. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316578
2. Use this tool to s-off and install clockwork mod. http://revolutionary.io/
3. Then roms can be installed via clockwork mod and/or the stock rom can be rooted. see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680

Hello well lets see ok good you have completed step one now step two you need to install a custom recovery i like cwmr_Revolutionary_4.0.1.4.img custom recovery is a good one and it has the least problem's and step three you will need to flash the su -2.3.6.3-efgh-signed this is what give's you root access you will have to flash this using you pc via comand promts and after this you now have a rooted devise i would sugest flashing lee droid rom for starter's and next when your ready to down grade the Hboot you will have go to the threads and you will see file's that say ruu this is what you need to down grade and you will also want the one that say's Hboot 1.49.007 or 1.49.008 download any of the two and after you have downloaded copy and past it in root folder of sd card and may have to rename it you can do this part on the evo using es file explore make sure it says PG86IMG.zip even if says PG86IMG.zip i want you to rename it anyway why because windows hide's the file ext so it will read like this PG86IMG.zip.zip if you see this all you have do is delete that second .zip at the end now thats done your ready for the down grade copy and past the PG86IMG.zip file in the root folder of your sd card ok now battery pull now put battery back in press volume down power and dont let go until it boot's in to bootloader now let find the zip then it will say start update you press volume up for yes now sit back and let it do the update and when its done it will reboot and now you have Hboot 1.49.007 now your ready to s off head on over to alpharevolutionary.io

was super difficult to read, and you probably need to add punctuations
EDIT : Reason : Punctuations ?
You need to flash older Stock ROM in signed PG86IMG.zip, which includes HBOOT 1.49.0007. Then you are able to root your phone using revolutionary. But i recommend you to get either CWM4 or 4EXT recovery, which don't have charge bugs.
You dont need to use HTC's method since you are on .018
Get a PG86IMG.zip and use that to downgrade Hboot to .07/.08
After which use revolutionary to s-off and flash a recovery.
Make a nand backup
and get flashing
Im trying to look for the tutorial i used where all the links are, ill edit once i find it sorry
Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316578 ; use this to downgrade Hboot, and because its a European phone, you dont need to change CID so basically start from step 4

There are guides in the development section that show you how to do it. It all depends on if your phone is cdma or gsm, and what hboot you have.
Also, flashing this ROM: RUU_Shooter_U_HTC_ARA_1.24.415.6_Radio_10.59.9020. 00_10.15.9020.06_M_release_22091 7_signed.exe

If you flash that, that's an ruu and will unroot you. Also, you do not need root to flash an ruu.

Enter vol down + power and enter recovery
Mount storage and coipy rom to root of phone
Wipe data and then
Install zip file from sdcard
Is this procedure correct and enough and/or do i need some more steps?
YOur answer will really help me...thanks
Almost correct. You need to wipe data, cache, and dalvik. And also make a nandroid backup before wiping.
And FYI, you still need root to flash a rom.

A custom rom gives you root. Or you can root your stock rom.

You dont need root to flash any ROM, root is just having superuser.apk and binary in your ROM.
Your NAND protection needs to be unlocked via HTC method or revolutionary.io to install a ROM.

For a ROM with Arabic support, search in the GSM developmet section of 3D.
It should be zip file instead of exe .
It does not matter whether you are rooted or not to install a ROM.
Just make sure your bootloader is unlocked via revolutionary.io , or HTCdev.com (if revolutionary is unsupported)
Also you should have a custom recovery.
So, you mean to say i need bootloader unlocked to flash ruu shipped roms right? BTW how do i know if my bootloader is unlocked or not?
BTW downloaded program from revolutioary.io, how do i use this program to unlock bootloader?
Thanks

Nah, for RUU.exe you need a locked bootloader and for flashing the ROMs made by XDA devs , you need unlocked bootloader.
If you are going to use RUU exe dont unlock bootloader and dont use revolutionary and dont install custom Recovery..
Use them only if you want to flash ROMs made by XDA devs.
But be sure that the RUU you are using is made for your phone, or you will end up with a bricked phone.

Yes , you cant just use any RUU of any region I guess, you should use only the RUU made for phones of your region.
The RUU should contain the hboot same as yours or a new version.
It should not contain hboot of lower version than your current one..

Run the RUU exe without connecting your phone to PC.
When the 1st screen of RUU appears, minimise it > open my computer > then in your windows drive > search " rom.zip" .
There should be only one rom.zip > copy it to your desktop or anywhere > close the RUU program > open the rom.zip with winRAR or any software > you will see a list of " .img, .txt, .nb0 " files. One of the ".nb0" file says "hboot_*.*_signedbyaa.nb0"
In my case it is "hboot_1.50.0000_signedbyaa.nb0"
The number infront of the hboot is its version . In my case it is hboot 1.50.0000.

Plug in your phone to your computer. Open CMD, and browse to your adb installation. E.g cd C:/Program Files/Android/android-sdk/platform-tools/
Then type adb getvar cid.
Remember that number. Find the appropriate radio for your CID number and flash that.

as per the instructions... i figured out my cid num which is cidnum: HTC__001...but i wonder that i was flashing the right radio version for my mobile ..... I will really appreciate if u explain it a little more,....

You said you are stuck in bootloader and cant unlock with HTC method to use a RUU.............
Thats good for you , as far as you dont need to be unlocked to use a RUU.exe.
If you unlock your phone via htcdev.com you cannot use RUU.
My concern is not to install ruu but only to get my evo back to work... which i can not figure out how to.....and friend It was meant to be reclocked....I cant understand why i cant access my recovery..neither i m able to flash it,,, If some one please help please since my phone starts and goes in boot loader automatically n there if i try flash any thing throuigh fastboot it gives me an error in retrun ///

flashing radio
hello flashing radio's can be very tricky the file may have been corupt or youmay have flashed the wrong ruu and also where did you download this file i hope you flashed a PG86IMG.zip if you did go back to the thread that you downloaded from and make sure you that ruu is for your device and if it isnt that thread you downloaded from should have other ruu's that are for your device and make sure you read everything on that thread before downloading and flashing

flashing radio's
ok i see where you made your mistake dont use exe file's. you should be using PG86IMG.zip and all you had to do is copy it to the root folder of your sd card and power off and battery pull and put battery back in volume down and press power boots into bootloader and it will find the zip file and it prompt start update you press volume up for yes and set back and let it flash you new radio and when it is done delete it from the root folder of your sd card and enjoy

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218196 here it is this is what you should be using
What you have is called a soft brick. The radio you flashed was not compatible with your phone. First remove your SD from your phone. Then put it in your pc/laptop via card reader and remove whatever zip you were trying to flash. Then you have to find the correct ruu that has a compatible radio and run it from your pc.
