Hey all,
apologize in advance if this was asked before. i have performed a search and could not locate a definite answer.
i have SG3 ATT1747ucalem rooted using the guide on this forum.
since 2 days ago i have a notification for an OTA from ATT.
i have read the thread here and from users instructions installed voodoo OTA keeper.
i then tried to perform the OTA,
it keep going into recovery and then fail on "e: signature verification failed"
i have tried to temp unroot the device and try again - fail.
tried to toggle the verification off and apply the OTA - fail.
my question is this:
is there any way (or a thread to read) where there are instructions on how to apply the OTA update without loosing your root?
please let me know, thank you.
Questions go in the Q&A forum. Not Dev.
my apologies, i will ask there.

after i got the OTA update for JI6 on my rooted stock rom vibrant [3button restart capable] i got the soft brick and had to use ODIN to get me back on track with JI6 manually with the help of this thread post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8521600&postcount=39
(thanks, guys)
so now i have everything working again, with the update but now i seem to have lost root and am missing some of my favorite functionality. my question is, can i root the same way i did before or is there updated root method or update.zip file that i should use for a post JI6 phone?
second question:
i assume 2.2 is around the corner and i am fine with waiting for the OTA, would you expect me to have the same soft brick issues on that update as well? would there be another root method for 2.2? what i am asking here is if it would be prudent to wait for 2.2 before rooting the phone again.
thank you very much for reading this post. i appreciate your time and response.
silly me, i just saw this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7150299&postcount=1
that answered my question. and i DID look around for the answer. but i will leave this thread up because the auto search duplicate thread function when creating a new thread didnt pop up anything relevant.
Hello everyone,
I have read several forums regarding the new update and decided to attempt OTA with VooDoo's rootkeeper running (and backups made of course!)
I have dowloaded the update seveal times and everytime I get the error "verification signature failed"
Any suggestions to move past this?

Don't do it, you will lose root regardless of having Rootkeeper and you will not be able to re root until a workaround is found for the new update. The reason its failing is because you have a custom recovery. Which you will no longer be able to have if you accept the update. freeze sdm 1.0 using titanium backup to stop the ota process and feel lucky that the update failed.

I apologize in advance for positing here about this but i am unbelievably frustrated, and there is a forum rule where I must post 10 times before i post in the developer threads. I decided instead of flooding the forum with useless posts that I would post what I need here. I have had 19.6.3 for quite some time and decided to downgrade to 19.5.3 to root again and attempt to keep the root for 19.6.3. Which is what i'm told is necessary. I'm trying to use the method on the bottom androdmods keep root 19.6.3. If you can't find it using that in google will quickly get you to it ( I can't post links, again I'm "new"). Basically I'm using Jcase's(Thank you) Pie tool. Now i have been using his methods for awhile now but this one which seems to be the easiest is giving me the most trouble. After using the Pie tool i have achieved root. However, I cannot update SuperSu's binarys to fully install it and use survival mode, or even access the app at all. I get this error "installation failed! Please reboot and try again". Of course that doesn't work. Rootchecker however says that I have root access. So I'm trying to use MotoWpNoMo. However, every time i use this it restarts the phone and is breaking the Pie Tool's root because SuperSu never worked anyway so it's not fully installing. What am i doing wrong? What am I missing? You have no idea how grateful I would be for information that could fix my issues.
Could you please guide me on how to update from I545URUAME7 to the latest build. I stopped the update because at that time they did not have a root. I'm sure by now there is a root for it. My current configuration is I545URUAME7 rooted with the original image. Sorry if it has been posted before, I could not find it. By the way going into settings and software update get me with the error, unfortunately settings has stopped.

You can use the method in the link below to upgrade to the current NK1 build and root. Since you are having problems downloading the OTA update, use the "Alternate Method" in the OP.
How to root NK1
Very much appreciated, Sorry to bother you again, what do you suggest for backing up my device if something goes wrong. A little nervous doing it, it took lot of time to costumize my phone, I would hate to do it again[emoji1]
Alright, I am just posting this for anyone unable to find and locate the solution posted by Agrajag27. I didn't find this post right away because I was searching by the build number after I did the first OTA update successfully and then got an error message; unable to update while trying to install the second OTA provided by Verizon. In summary, Agrajag27 wrote this as the solution to those experiencing issues installing the second OTA update:
1. Go to Samsung Kies website (sorry, unable to post the link for the website)
2. Download Kies3 (not Kies) for PC and install
3. Open Kies3 on PC and ignore the suggestion of installing Smart-something or other(I can't remember exactly what it suggested either during the process?)
4. Connect your phone via cable to the PC and Kies will see it and tell you there's an update. Install the update.
Thank you (a million times) Agrajag27 for finding a rather simple solution to this OTA issue!

Can someone do me a kindness and please post a reply in this thread when its discovered how to root Lollipop on the Verizon SCHI-545? Thanks. I need root!
You want root, but took the OTA? It wouldn't be surprising if there is never a way to root it. There's a method of upgrading to OC1 without losing root or the ability to downgrade. There's not much incentive for others to look for a root method, because anyone who wanted root had the ability to keep it when they upgraded and new root methods require more and more effort as previous exploits are closed off. Here are general rules to live by:
1) If you're rooted or modified in any way, taking an OTA may brick your phone.
2) Wait until those who know better figure out safe ways of upgrading while retaining root, and there's a widespread indication of success, before even thinking about upgrading.
3) Learn patience. You don't need to upgrade within the first few days of a new release.
