I'm looking for my first Tablet. I found a couple refurbished ones (since I'm trying to stay around $200) that looks interesting..
I see the ViewSonic G-Tablet, I like the large 10" screen..
I also seen the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Seems popular..
The Blackberry Playbook looks alright too, but is it very ROM friendly?
Anyway, I'm looking for something this is friendly with custom ROMS, supports full flash. Mainly use for web surfing, video watching, perhaps some light games. Performance is not of up most importance since I'm staying on the cheap side but still something that not to horrible..
I should also add I'd like one where I can use it on Wi-Fi only. No need for wireless provider service..
Any recommendations , suggestions?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

To go by the options on your list, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is best. It has a large development community, great at everything you stated, and it's performance is incredible (which is a plus for the price).
N.B.: Don't even think of the Blackberry Playbook .
The Blackberry playbook doesn't run android. you can install android apps though in the beta version.
The galaxy tab is the best one. It has a LOT of devs working on it. ICS is promised for it too.
I can run, for example the galaxy tab, fine on no wireless service? I can use it only on Wi-Fi? Because thats what I wanna do.. I do not want any 3G service or plan required..
I don't need an "unlocked" one to do this?
So if I order one that's says its for Sprint, I do not need any Sprint account to use it? It will not bug me about not activating it on Sprint services?

The older one (7in) needs data service. The new ones (10.1, 8.9, and 7.0 plus) don't need it.
I'd wait for the Xyboard (sp?) aka the Xoom 2 to be released. That's promising to be a freaking sweet piece of hardware.
If I were to stop being poor right here and now, that's what I'd get

Wow thanks! But seems not easy to find for sale lol

Hi not actually buying this phone, but asking for a friend of mine,he found one red SGS3 on web and the guy said it comes with preloaded jellybean, can that be possible?? because he said the phone is new!(but the price is to low about 60€ low) should then the phone had the version of software that was when he came out?? did anyone buy a NEW SGS3 with jellybean, preloaded?? and what should he look when buying this phone? I'am thinking about some build issues or other issues hardware software, that are possible on this phone??
well, first of all - yes there are devices preloaded with JB.
secondly 60€ ?? if there is something that's always true is if you see something that's too good to be true - it's probably is.
make sure it's unused, undamaged and simfree. also i would suggest to make sure it's one of the models listed here:

For this price it seems almost too good to be true, check for damage, software issues or general problems with the phone before buying. Made the same mistake with the HTC one x, brought one that had £150 off its original price and stupid as I am, I went for it, big mistake. I now have a sgs3 and I'm very happy with it although this was brand new

it is the international version I9300,are you sure that some SGS3 come with jellybean?? and I don't think you understand me price is 380€,that is 60€ cheaper than same brand new in local store 440€,and I don't think that they update your phone in factory,I bought HTC ONE X and it is produced in august, but it still had 4.03 not 4.04 that is available on update at that time,if it is written on the specs ICS why would they preload JB,it is against the law to mislead costumers like that, you have to sell what is in specs of the phone, right??
oh ok 380€ is more likely.
could be a killer sale but as i mentioned i would double and triple check. are you getting the device unopened from the store and with warranty ?
if so - just "sniff" around check the store reputation.
about the version i wouldn't call a newer official software mislead but if they'd say that the device has 2200 mah battery for example that would be against the law...
who have ordered in tmo store online and received their unit box sealed like tmo local store unit? the first time i ordered online i receive my device in a box that is not sealed. they just place 2 tmobile sticker to hold the box cover. when i open my unit there was a dent and scratch on the back so be aware. make sure when you receive a unit when ordered online, the unit must be sealed otherwise the unit you will be getting is a returned from someone nor refurbished.
just sharing..
PLEASE RETURN YOUR PHONE... do not accept a phone if is not sealed. thats an used one for sure ....contact tmobile and tell them they sent you a used phone when you paid for a new one ...
the box is supposed to be covered in transparent plastic...

that is what i did. i cannot accept a device that has a minor issue! not with the $579 device! if some user here are sticking with some minor issue then it is not me, i always go for the way they advertise the phone. no dead/stuck pixel and a gap. the phone is advertise as zero gap device. but when htc will perfect this design just like the way they advertise it? this phone is one of the best built quality phone at the moment..

not sure why people are complaining about gaps or anything that are not dead pixels since you will probably use a case with it and notice the gaps

The key word you used was "probably". Some people don't use a case. Some people want their phone to look as nice as possible. You are supposed to get what you pay for.... and this is not a cheap device.

every one of us has our own preference about build quality. me i want it just like the way they advertise the device. money doesn't grow on trees.
it doesn't matter if you use case it will not make the gap disappear, it will be there and you know it. and if you're ok with a minor defective device well that's fine with me, that is your device not mine. i just want my earned money to be worth spending on the device.

Can you guys show me where the advertise it with no gaps? I don't think I ever saw the exact words "no gaps" being advertised.
What about the operating system what about sense? Sometimes when you exit something it's not as smooth as other transactions. Why aren't you guys complaning about that?
Are the gaps really really that bad ?

Its advertised as "zero gap" construction but I agree that people are too anal about it. People sending back all these devices are going to make it very difficult for carriers to replace them if it keeps up.

operating system can be fix by updates.. it is actually zero gaps because it is a unibody device.. everything need to be flawless. people care because they want their money to be worth on spending.what if that gaps will get worse its getting older? what are you gonna do? send it to htc to get it fix? if you are ok with you device with minor issue then that is fine.sharing this to anyone who care not to anyone doesn't care.
Mine wasn't sealed. Just had two stickers holding it shut. The bag it came in was sealed though. It had the sticky cover over the phone and nothing was missing and the phone was in perfect condition.

Ummm... Pretty sure most carriers ship in open boxes - how else do you think they get the required SIM card in there? All phones I've ever gotten from T-Mobile, going all the way back to the Sidekick II, were just sealed with a sticker.
Same thing with at&t
Same with Sprint
Same with Verizon
And Sprint didn't even use SIM cards back then.
You guys are just looking to complain.

Please search on the Internet how carriers put their SIM cards inside the box and you will see how it works ... And today a tmobile representative confirmed all new htc one comes with the box covered in plastic , if is not covered, the phone is reburbished... I wish i had the conversation saved. So i could show it to you
.. There's no body complaining ... We are just giving information
I work at Wal-Mart in the hardware section but I'm usually called to help out in electronics to run cashier/do communications setup.
So I usually have to pull my phone out to do demonstrations to people who are unfamiliar with android.
I kid you not, every time I whip this thing out I get some kind of reaction. One guy with an iPhone, and I quote him verbatim, said "ok. It's time to switch to android."
Another funny line, two older guys were getting some prepaid refill cards and his friend mentioned to him "it's time we get a bigger phone!"
When the phone first came in the mail
I ran into the nearest phone store to get my service done the guy was astounded by the phone, because he was just reading about it but never saw it in person, gave me a 20$ discount.
Sadly most people think it's a note 2, or ironically Note 3, which isn't even released yet.
Feels good man. I don't even care for any other phone now, all I'm waiting for is the mega 2.
Share your mega stories?
One thing is for sure, Mega won't go unnoticed no matter what []
Same with me, people think it's a Note 2 or nowadays a Note 3. Once you get used to the size you won't like anything smaller. Also waiting for the Mega 2.
Most of the comments I get are negative, but these are from people that simply don't get it, stuck in the late nineties thinking that smaller=better
They don't realise that Phones have changed direction now, its no longer about cramming the required tech into the smallest, lightest package, its now about putting the largest screen possible in a pocketable device, Phones aren't all about the calls anymore, with screen based activity being more important - this is a point that many don't understand.
I have always chosen the larger devices since the Nokia 9000 / XDA days, I was over the moon with the Dell Streak, and then the Note/NoteII, each time the device was touted as a niche product that will never catch on, but now with the Mega, and even mainstream devices pushing 5" more and more people are waking up to the benefits of a large screen.
Does anybody have any idea when the Mega 2 is coming out? I just heard about the Mega like 10 minutes ago, but I see people talking about the 2 already. I had planned on getting the Note 3 next month cause my phone is just about toast. I'll wait if the Mega 2 is coming soon.

I came from note 1 and have to say i love this phone. The note 3 has some more oomph and obv the spen but tbh i dont miss the spen or features.
The only danger i see is that this is obiously a design sammy does not expect to sell many of in the scheme of things so less likely to get frequent updates as opposed to s4 and n3

See I don't even know how I feel about updates and all that. I'm still using an ICS rom on my Note. I like to try different Roms and all that, but once I find one I like I'm happy. If I could basically get a larger Note 1 I'd be perfectly fine lol. Maybe if it had MultiWindow, but I think I only want that cause i can't have it lol. Thanks for your insight though bro. I'll more than likely get this one. I'm wondering how the AT&T one will perform on T-Mobile since that's who I have.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega i9205 is the LTE version and obviously it supports LTE.
But I hear that some frequencies of ATT(1700Mhz?) are not support. Don't know much more on that since I'm in the EU and no LTE here anyway.

AT&T has their own version with LTE and a locked bootloader, so no root yet. It's worth it, though.
Started from the bottom, with a Streak, then the Note, then the Note 2, got this the day after the Note 3 was announced, because I have no faith the 3 is going to be worth it. Might have processor and ram, but I find myself browsing the internet for funny pictures and info rather than trying to play the latest games with 3d graphics and whatnot. Bigger screen = better for me.

And with a screen that size, google maps is gonna make for a superior nav system as compared to smaller screen dedicated Garmins and Tom Toms.

Full 4GLTE on t mob. Check out the other posts I've made and find the screenshot of the data performance 22000mbps+!
Not bad for a "middle" market phone.

That number was confusing me each time I read it.
Most of my friends and work colleagues have joked about my Mega. Sadly, mostly negative as they just didn't really get it (that and I had some horrid tacky case on it so I guess that didn't help). A couple have liked it and my girlfriend is growing to like it too. I did get laughed at by a shop assistant when I had to take a call the other day.
Waiting for the SGH52 headset to come out and that'll be much easier for taking calls.
Another Note 1 to Mega user. I have no regrets with the Mega. As far as people's reactions amazingly I've been able to not draw attention to it yet as I guess I've concealed it well. lol People at work don't have a clue and they probably figure it's still my Note 1.
Hello friends, i use smartphones for a long time now and i love this forum. I remember the first ROM i downloaded from here, it was for the HTC Charmer and it is many years ago. I had beautiful and useful ROMs for my Galaxy S2, S3, S4 but now i got a Galaxy Alpha and i am a little bit disappointed because there is only one ROM for it - why? Is there no interest? Is the phone too new? Is it so difficult to modify the code?
Thanks in advance

Well you don't seem so with small replies like that.
Seriously tho, this phone isn't available in the US besides AT&T and it's seriously locked down. Not selling a phone in the US isn't the end all be all but it really does cut out a pretty big owner base and on top of having a secure boot loader there's no reason to buy it to dev on. It sucks because it's a pretty good phone for people who don't want a phablet.

Ok thank you, now i understand, didn't knew that. Well so i maybe should have taken an S5 instead but the Alpha looks so good...
the other reason , there are barely love for small device anymore in most Asian country.
bigger = better ?
maybe another reason is that 5.0 is coming soon
This is still a very new device and is targeted at a 'top end' user base.
Whilst the US carrier-exclusive deal will not be helping and the small form factor of the phone will put a lot of people off, it is still a superb device and custom ROMs will come in time I feel sure, but will never be on the scale of the amount available for mass-market handsets like the S4 or S5.
