2) Place the zip file on the root (not in any folders) of your SD card. (not internal storage).
3) Boot to Hboot by holding Volume-Down and Power.
4) Install.
5) OR, pull file from .zip and install using fastboot.

Hey Andy I'm trying to get back to stock completely, but I'm having a little difficulty figuring it out. Do I have to install these using adb? Or just fast boot? I'm fake cid unlock not s-off.

I attempted to flash my rooted evo view back to stock using the 1.18 RUU found on this site, and it failed 3/4 way through the flash.
I was able to extract the rom.zip from the RUU, and flash back to stock 1.18 via the SD card method. The problem with this is that my device did not flash the bootloader back to stock, so I'm still left with a -Revolutionary- when booting the device into bootloader.
Is there a method to stock to flash bootloader? To make it pretty much 100% stock?
Thanks in advance!
Did you remember to relock?

Alright will do.
Just to confirm, I can put S-ON, and if I would like to, can re-root afterwards? I'm working on something and just need some little direction.
Thanks man!
yes, you'll be right back at step zero, stock, S-OFF etc and you can run revolutionary again then.

Sweet, will have to try that out.
I'm following the instructions, except when I go to extract the hboot file from the RUU.zip file, it is named "hboot_7230_1.09.0000_0504.nb0", should I just change the extension to .img and push it via ADB?
Just want to make sure before taking the plunge

You need another PC image you relocked now so there is no rom on the phone you need to snag the latest PC86IMG stock rom this will get you going man. What you flashed was a stock recovery from the looks of it.
If your relocked will say so in Hboot at the top you need the latest one of these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447839

What I did at that point was power off my phone, take out my SD card, and put it in a usb adapter. Connect it to your PC then place the PG86IMG.zip in the root of your SD card. Place the SD card back in your phone power up and the phone will pick up the file and update all on its own.

Yes you can. That's the process I use all the time.
I personally just went from stock gb to ics leak placing by the renamed dl on my ext SD and letting the phone run it's course in boot mode. From stock to stock.
Granted I did not use a recovery of any sort, so yes pics etc..were lost but I did not have much on my phone so I did not mind.
Trying to follow the instructions on Android Police
but where do I find the ICS OTA full firmware, or is that OTAPkg.zip ?
Confused already.. hope this isn't a sign of things to come
Get the Global leak from HERE. This is version 4.03.605.2, which is the same as 4.03.605.1 but with some bugs fixed. As it says in the article, download the RUU from any of the five mirrors provided, rename the file to PH98IMG.zip, put it on the root of the SD card, reboot to bootloader, and let it update. To be safe, you can do it twice.
Don't forget to relock your bootloader if you are unlocked. Then you can run the RUU.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Definitely let it run through twice, I think it does that on its own. I've read posts from devs saying it needs to run twice to be sure it gets all the system files written or something.

Sorry still confused, so please bear with me:

You need to relock before running the RUU if you are s-on. In fastboot type:
fastboot oem lock
Then after running it if you want root back:
delete the PH98IMG.zip from the sd card
unlock using htcdev
fastboot flash recovery
install SU in recovery
Or you can go s-off if that's your plan. See s-off thread for instructions.
After fastboot oem lock, are the next steps correct?
How bad can I screw this up? Will the phone become a paperweight?

A Couple of Questions
As the image shows, it appears that my firmware is outdated, but I have a couple of concerns before flashing the new zip file.
I have been thinking of going S-Off, but is it necessary before flashing the firmware and a new ROM (currently running Liquidsmooth KK Milestone 3.2)?
I have TWRP recovery. How do I remove recovery.img and boot.img before updating the firmware?
I'm no noob, but the M8 appears to have more options (for lack of a better term) than my previous Android phones & tablets.

Hey Canuck...
You're right - the additional options for HTC phones mostly boil down to the S-On/Off deal and firmware flashing.
If you've got the AT&T variant and haven't changed your CID, you can use the firmware here. You only need to be S-Off if you're going to flash non-AT&T firmware.
For the recovery, you can just open the firmware Zip file in the OP and delete those two files out of it. When you flash, it will update everything else except those. Alternately, you can just flash without removing them but will have to reflash TWRP via fastboot to get the custom recovery back.

OK -- thanks for letting me know. So I need to dowload the TWRP backup, put it on the external SD and flash it after flashing the full firmware?
Sorry to be so noob-ish.

Yes make sure you put it in the twrp folder on ext-sd also you need to have twrp recovery on your computer to flash it via cmd using fastboot because after you flash new firmware it will replace twrp with stock & you will have to re-flash twrp recovery
