[Q] Earphones Connected is there any use? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I was wondering if there is anyway to make more applications show up for this earphones connected prompt in my notification drop down. If there isn't, is there a way to disable it completely? It is really not helpful without giving me like google music or something else as an option.

I followed this guide:

and used this stripped down rom:

Also somewhat related, does the galaxy s3 have support for lock screen music controls? I know it was a ICS default feature. It doesn't show for Google Play Music (or whatever it's name is at this point).

I also would like to add Google music and iheart radio in that menu. Any ideas? I am currently rooted using stock ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

Just figured I should mention this, I put this rom on: and now I got more options, probably the stock options. It would be awesome to make this configurable in the future. I think a lot of us are getting ahead on expectations in development right now with this locked down bootloader, as it is still in the way of custom kernels and such. I think many of the capable dev's are busy trying to figure out how to fully unlock this device.

Heres an idea, I might give this one a try:
based off this: http://www.s3forums.com/forum/galaxy-s3-hacking-mods/874-hack-remove-wifi-reminder.html
edit this:
ContextAwareService -> logDatabase.db -> appLogTable
This appears to be holding the same shortcuts that the headphones plugged in thing brings up. When I plug in my headphones it crashes the SQLite Editor if I am viewing the database at the same time. Which leads me to believe it is making use of the sqlite database.
Edit:
indeed, I deleted the google talk as an option and it no longer shows when I plug in the headphones.

Update on progress:
I found the touchwiz home database which gave me the launch commands for different applications. I think I can add whichever I want to that database list in the same format at this point. Phone is doing a nandroid backup before I go any further. Here are the screen shots, and it was located in:
TouchWiz home -> launcher.db -> appOrder
Is there a hide/spoiler/resize option for the images? They are kind of large...

Got it working. =)
So I'll try to write up a better how to in the next few days. But these screen shots should be sufficient for now I figure. Here is proof it is working:
quick side note: notice the number skips 9 (what gtalk used to occupy). I would probably just edit gtalk to become Play Music, instead of deleting as I did.
__
__
edit:
Quick observation, anyone notice the fm radio option is default in the database? Not sure if that is because of the rom, or if included with even the stock Verizon.

Anyway to removes them completely?

I would like to know to remove the option completely too...as it takes too much space in drop-down notification
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

I'll do a nandroid backup and see if deleting the entries removes it cleanly. I suspecting the icon will still be there and such. Seems like a poor way to remove it even if it does work, I imagine the process will still run and such even if it doesn't show in notification bar. Giving it a shot in a little bit though.
Quick report back while I restore:
At first, it actually restored the original options after I deleted all entries. If I want into another table within the database and set the value to 0, then deleted the entries they would stay gone. Although they still allocated the same space it just didn't show them. I'll provide screenshots shortly.

Screenshots:
First attempt repopulated the default options:
Second attempt:
First go to 'sqllite seq' and set 'appLogTable' equal to 0:
Once again delete all the entries
Then you get this:
So even worse than I suspected. I thought it would at least allocate some extra space in the notification drop down. It takes up the same room, it is just blank now.

Made the how to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28986432#post28986432

freezing the contextaware service gets rid of it showing from the notifications at all
I forget who discovered this but it wasnt me

[Q] Things that suck about the Galaxy S II - Help me resolve

I love my SGSII, but some things just plain suck though. Does anyone know of solutions to the following:
Bluetooth
Poor A2DP quality (low bitpool)
Gets hot and battery drain after turning the car stereo off.
Often doesn't respond to forward/back controls.
Lockscreen
I'd much rather just have the stock Google lockscreen. Anyone know how to restore this?
Call answer slider
These are ugly and not very smoothly animated. Anyone know a way to replace these with stock or otherwise?
Apps missing from Market on KE7
I've noticed a few of these. It finds Samsung-specific apps instead.
Swipe to dismiss notifications
I guess this is just a useful cyanogen feature that I miss.
No silent state
I want 'ring and vibrate', 'vibrate only' and 'totally silent' ring modes on volume button like Cyanogen, or in the notification drop down. As it is, I only have everything or vibrate only. It's very annoying having to go into the menus or use an ugly widget.
Change what double-tapping the home button does
Currently goes to Vlingo, which is awful. It could do something useful
The UI still has loads of poor design elements left over from the SGS
Most notably, words that don't fit in boxes and fall onto 2 lines as below (regardless of font used)

Also, loading bars often overlap other text and elements. It looks sloppy. Why do Samsung think this is an improvement over stock?
The Gallery app has two menus to send things
Ways to share pictures is now split between 'send via' and 'share via'. This is completely unnecessary. Why would Samsung do this? Can I install the stock gallery app?

I use widgetlocker to bypass the stock lockscreen. There is a setting in widgetlocker which allows you to bypass your stock lockscreen so when you "slide to unlock" it goes straight to your homescreen. Plus you can add widgets, etc. which is a very nice feature.
coming from the iPhone (though liking the GS2 very much) I find it annoying how incosistent the UI is.
To share a picture from the browser is a completely different action than sharing something from the gallery...
I've got a higher bitpool lib uploaded... Wanna try it?

Back up the old one, and put in /system/lib/ and see if it helps

wow is that bad, i never knew these types of things existed. i just thought it was identical to AOSP code based ROMs. samsung should really feel silly for UI issues like that. particularly because they are stock elements gone awry allegedly due to samsung's custom skin of the device. they broke stock!
Yes it's very sloppy. All of these were present on the first Galaxy S. Either fix thhem, or put it back to stock!
More issues:
Setting to 'power saver mode' disables sync. Returning to normal mode doesn't re-enable it.
How the feel do I snooze the alarm?
Network data stops working, with the upload arrow stuck on but no download.
You can set the snooze settings under advanced settings when you create or edit an alarm. Tab on snooze and set the snooze timeout and the number of times you are allowed to snooze.

Well, the battery draining in less then half a day is not properly a minor inconvenience, given that it's a mobile device. IMHO.
Even the sound quality over bluetooth is a major letdown for me, to be true. I am coming from an Iphone4 whose BT sound quality was great and I'm pretty disappointed.

[Q] [SOLVED] Incoming SMS notification during call

I have searched the internet a few times over the last few weeks and find only the same old, dead threads with poor solutions or seemingly good solutions which have been pulled from the market (such as app called "missed call"), and nothing new, so here goes:
It is a documented Android phenomenon: we hear nothing when a text message comes in while we're on the phone. There is no LED so glancing at the phone from time to time (I use headset) doesn't cut it. I have to try to remember to wake the screen to check from time to time and sometimes I miss time-sensitive messages.
Are there any solutions that I have missed? I don't really want to go the route of BLN, or 3rd party SMS app; I may have to I know. But I do hope there is a way to make this shiny new top-notch device do a basic thing that has been accomplished by every device I have owned since this one

You did not say what exactly the solutions you tried, so I'm not sure if you already did this: go to Settings > Call > Call alert > Alerts on call and set it to sound, or any of your preferred settings.

Oddly enough, i never saw this before. I must have looked in the Sound settings menu 10 times. I'll try it out, thanks. If that fixes it, i wonder why it was off by default in the first place
Edit: It works, thank you.
You're welcome! I'm still very new to all this (android and the SGS2), so I'm looking around my phone, playing with it, trying to figure out things.
On a related note, do you know how to get custom alerts for text messages? I can't figure it out, and I doubt samsung took out that simple feature that's been around since I can remember.

I can see that, but I cannot use other ringtones besides what's pre-installed in the device. That is, if I want to use an MP3 music file as my SMS alert notification, I cannot add that file to the list of SMS alert notifications. Is it really like that?

Ah ok, so what you have to do is go in your "sd card" the built-in memory, not "external sd" and create a folder called "Audio". Inside here you make 3 more folders: "Alarms" "Notifications" & "Ringtones"
You put whatever you want for sms/email, etc in the Notifications folder, it should show up in the list for choosing your sms sound.
Thanks! It took me a while to get back to this thread (been really busy). It works!

How do i disable the Notification LED at night?

Thing is like a runway light at an airport. Tasker doesn't seem to be able to do it in stock form. No idea if secure settings could do it. Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know, but +1 I was thinking the same thing.
This would have to be manual every night but it would work. Settings>led>check boxes.

Yeah that isn't gonna fly. I have tasker automating a night mode. I guess its a feature the tasked devs will need to add in. Right now I just a it it face down on my nightstand. Not a huge deal to leave it facedown.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Maybe you could at least make it one touch off and one touch on by using a NFC tag and NFC Task Launcher and Tasker...maybe
I figured out how to do it using tasker, but you need root. I also need to do some more testing, but this should work in most cases.
Some background: when a notification comes in, the system sets the file led_pattern in /sys/devices/virtual/sec/led to something non-zero. 3 is a slow blinking blue light, 1 is solid red, I forget what the others are now. When the screen is turned on, this is reset to zero, and when the screen is turned off, if the notification bar hasn't been opened (and the program with the notification hasn't been opened) the value is reset to something non-zero. So, I created a simple task to change the value back to zero:
Create a new task, then select Script>Shell. Enter the following command:
echo 0 > /sys/devices/virtual/sec/led/led_pattern
Check the 'Use Root' box
Then your task is done. I'd try it once to make sure you have accepted whatever superuser popups (you'll need to always allow this for it to work on its own).
Now create a profile, and for the context select Event>UI>Notification. You may need to check tasker on the accessibility menu if you haven't already (it will prompt you if necessary). Add whatever other contexts you want (I have a variable that's set when I turn on my nighttime menu that I check for so the light will blink during the day but not at night). If you don't add other contexts this will always block your light, so make sure you've done some check to block it only at night.
Disclaimer: I haven't extensively tested this. There are a few quirks I've found so far:
1) If you receive a google voice text, the light instantly turns purplish normally. On my phone it will come on for a split second before tasker can kill it.
2) If you receive a notification which is blocked with this profile/task, and then turn on the screen but don't do anything to clear the notification the light will turn on when the screen is turned off again. This is also true if the notification comes in when you have the screen on and you turn it off before clearing it. You might be able to fix this by adding some variables to the profile/checking for screen on/off, but I mostly just want it to automatically turn off the light when I'm asleep so I'm happy with this so far.
3) I haven't tested this overnight, I guess it's possible that the phone will run a check and turn the notification back on at some point. I'll test it tonight and see if anything weird come up.
4) I've only tested this blocking gmail and google voice. It's possible that some other notification would toggle one of the other led variables and this won't help.
If you have any issues with this please let me know and I'll see what I can figure out. If this has helped you please click thanks; I'm new here and could use some street cred.
EDIT: You can solve problem 2 by creating a new Profile with context State>Display>Display State set to Off, and adding in the other secondary (ie night time) contexts. Call the same task you called for the first profile.
EDIT: Oops, forgot to mention, this is on a Verizon Galaxy S3, I assume it's the same for the other carriers, but I have no way of testing it.

MiniCM9 Hints, Tips, Tricks, Mods, Fixes

--------------- The following Hints, Tips, Tricks, Mods and Fixes... refer to MiniCM9-3.0.4 ICS 4.0.4/CM9 port for the Χ10 mini
Here is the Official Thread
If any of this information is incorrect - enable troll mode > reply
Contacts
Stop right there! Before you even think about flashing to Minicm9 (or any other rom)
You should Know that the “Back Up and Restore” app on your x10 is USELESS!
Use another app or service to back up your contacts ect...
You wont be able to install “back up and restore” after your flash and even if your a smart **** and manage to install it... Trying to open the .sbf file will result in “error file unreadable” there are no other programs or apps that can help you open that sbf file (trust me I looked)
To retrieve my contacts. I used pc companion to “repair” my device. Restored my contacts on the phone with back up and restore then went to............... Contacts> Export to SdCard
This gave me a .vcf file that I uploaded to google mail.
When booting MiniCM9 I checked the box to sync contacts .
Hardware Keyboard
For me the hardware keyboard didn’t have full functionality right out the box.
It would have saved me allot of time if I knew that the settings are cooked into the rom.
They can be found in... Settings > Advanced > Keyboard Layout > and for me it was qwerty-en
Wallpaper
I noticed that the default wallpaper was oversized for the home screen
Heres a tool I made to help you find the optimum size for your wallpapers
{

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Having the optimum size wallpaper may improve performance by 0.0001% and its nice to have everything in proportion. (Each spacer represents 20 pixels)
I use an alternative home screen called go LauncherPro its highly customisable and works well with Minicm9 (and doesn’t have the google search at the top) it can be found in the market.
Internet (data connection/mobile internet)
I had issues connecting to the internet ( O2-UK ) to solve this I text ACTIVE to 2020.
and they sent the settings to my phone via text
Other providers may have a similar service try google magic
Icons
When I first flashed minicm the icons at the top were distorted and tiny
BUT! I later re-flashed and the icons weren’t distorted im not sure what’s what with this?
Im assuming the icons were fixed when I registered for “push updates” found in
settings > system
But im not sure....
also the dialer was out of proportion and was cutting off the top half of the numbers I entered however this also seems to have fixed itself.
Boot Animation
Big thumbs up to whoever created that! Its a work of art! But it has a massive impact on the speed of starting the phone up and in cases were you have a low battery and need to make that emergency call its not going to help at all. I disabled it
Settings > Performance > Disable boot animation
Music Player
I took one look at the Apollo app and decided I didn’t like it
The one I use is called mort player its in the market for free and iv never had a problem with it. I dont know if theres a better one out there coz once I found mort player I stopped looking.
Im a big fan of an internet radio station called progressive at www.di.fm
They have a free app in the market search for di.fm
Camera
Im still working on this one... The pre installed camera is.... well its naff
I like the on-screen button... but it shaves off allot of the screen and there’s a big ugly menu bar thing
I spent 4 hours in the kitchen trying to get the original camera app to work with no joy -.-
If you know how to do it or have an alternative app that works well (inc hardware button) please let me know and ill place it here for everyone.
I also don’t like cameras to make a sound when I take a photos I normally fix this by making a blank sound file and replacing the cameras sound files (whilst keeping the file names intact)
Removeables
bojler has a nice list of apps that can be removed to free up space
(GUIDE) MiniCM9 - Free up system memory, delete unwanted system apps.
Big thanks to the developers of this rom! My old nakerd x10 mini pro is now an up to date BEAST
If you have any other hints/tips/tricks/mods/fixes please share them ill add them to the head post
reserved
Thanks for the info.
Did you get the info where the sound files are located to deactivate / overwrite the nasyt nasty foto & focus sound?
In Android > 4.4 it's optional but on this little Xperia x10 mini it's hittung my nerves and i would like to change that
cheerz!

V30 - Suppress navigation during a telephone conversation

When I am traveling with Google Maps enabled, my phone is connected to a bluetooth speakerphone - and if someone calls me - instead of a map, I see who is calling, and then during the conversation, the phone goes blank instead of pointing the road further.
Does anyone know how to remedy this problem? Once I passed the motorway exit and had to make up for over 50 km ...
Can not the information about the caller appear only as a notification and the phone will continue to navigate?

If you wanted to download the Google Phone APK (there are a few different modified versions posted on XDA) you can set that dialer to appear as a bubble notification and disable the stock LG dialer, which should keep it from taking over your screen.
I understand this isnt a solution for fixing the LG dialer, but its still a solution overall so I figured I would reply. Not sure how to get the LG one to only show as a notification but i think its possible. Have you tried going into the LG Dialer Application Settings and Remove or Enable its "Draw Over Other Apps" permissions ? You may just need to give it access (or take it away, depending on which its already set to) in order to keep it from taking over the screen.

I did as you suggested and turned off the ability to draw on other applications for the "call service".
Unfortunately, it does not give anything, because the problem is somewhere else.
In the moment when navigation works and someone calls me - a notification window pops up - and that's OK.

But when I press the "answer" the screen switches completely to the telephone conversation - where every hand approximation to the proximity sensor (accidentally - when you try back to navigation while you driving the car ) will blank the screen, and "always display on" will not work - and the screen will go blank - because the screensaver started working.
Is it impossible to do so that after receiving the call - selected applications will still be displayed and the conversation will be in the background? - So that you do not need to eject the taskbar and manually switch to the navigation, which is dangerous while driving!
Now I'm understanding. I had thought you were trying to avoid the focus switching while the device was ringing.
I think there may be an easy fix for you though. See attached photo. Do you have PIP set to "Yes"?
