The worst case scenario, may be your bootloader is corrupted. But from your post it does not seems like you've done anything to damage the bootloader. You can try to put it in download mode using "usb jig".
I had this problem 2 days ago, flashed only the stock PIT file trought odin and flashed again the rom and everything its working good..

I'm really stuck here guys, and I seriously could use some help. I was messing around (yes, I know what I'm doing) I installed Bionix's Rom and I liked VooDoo but not the Rom. So I thought, I could just flash the kernel with stock JI6. I was wrong because I couldn't find anything on the post stating it didn't work or I would need a certain file (which I did, and have now) So the phone was going through the Voodoo robot girl steps and then just stood on the Vibrant logo. I took the battery out and went into download mode. Tried to restore back to JI6 on odin but it failed then the phone wasn't recognized. Rebooted again and now I have some weird error, it's a phone with a exclamation mark in the middle and a pc next to it. Any ideas? I've seriously searched and haven't found anything. Getting a little panicky :-|
Edit -- Forget it guys! Thankfully I was able to get back to download mode and it's working again :-D
Edit 2 -- I spoke to soon. I'm having another issue now. I use Odin to get it back to stock JI6 it passes and the phone boots up, show the T-Mobile logo then just goes black like if it died but it isn't dead. I don't know what to do :-( I used Odin 3 times already and it's the same thing.
Great !
All the best then..

Try to boot into stock recovery select wipe all user data. This should take your phone back to factory mode. Else there are plenty of links, that will tell you how to go back to stock using ODIN. Go back to stock using ODIN, then upgrade to JI6 using ODIN. Hope this helps.

I was able to fix it. Only took me 3 hours LOL. I kept going back to stock with Odin. Then I used Odin 1.0 to flash Froyo that doesn't brick because 1.30 kept failing then it gave me some error e:\ something so I flashed stock JI6 with Odin 1.30 and got the same error. Wiped user data and cache, rebooted and it worked. Never want to go through that again!
Edit -- Forgot to mention I flashed JFD then went JI6. I believe... LOL it was late and I didnt sleep all day but couldnt sleep until I fixed it. I used JFD, JI2, JI6, Froyo that doesnt brick through out the whole 3 hour process.

What I used that always worked for me was pull out the battery. Leave the phone alone for 15 seconds then plug the USB in, hold both volume buttons and put the battery in. Should go into download mode immediately.

I am stuck on the "phone with a exclamation mark in the middle and a pc next to it" screen, I cant get my computer to recognize the phone anymore, and I cant get the phone to go to download mode anymore, PLEASE HELP ...
I was in the process of putting the stock version again on the phone after my phone started to freeze up on the Vibrant screen after the voodoo update
If your phone isnt hardware locked. Just hold down the volume keys and power button at the same time (with USB in) wait until the phone pc exclamation mark screen is gone and let go of the power button. Worked for me all the time.

I had the same issue. I'm not sure why it happens either. What I did was install Froyo that doesn't brick and flash that using Odin then I got an error on that. So I went back into download mode and flashed stock JFD and click repartition. It have me an error again and I wiped user data and cache then clicked reboot and it worked for me. Both those files can be found in the Development section. If you can't get it to work just keep trying man, flashing back and fourth until it works because like I said I did exactly that and it took me 3 hours to fix on my own. It's a real *****.

What ROM do you get that error on? If it's the Froyo that doesn't brick just install JFD over it by pulling out the battery, waiting 15 secs then put the USB on, hold volume buttons and put battery on. Should get you into download mode. If its the stock JFD or JI just go down to clear user data, then clear cache and then click reboot. You should see those options in the recovery.

Hello everybody!
Well...Like the title says, my phone (HDC S4 galaxy legend) isnt responding at all. I was using my phone when a message told me that sd card was with errors and asked me if i want to fomat. I´ve selected yes and the nighmare starts... Now when i power on the phone shows the logo and get stucks there... well, i thought that maybe recovey will fix this.. i have entered recovery and the first warnings appeared "e: cant mount sd card". I have tried format all the options, make wipes and stills appears message e: cant mount emmc or e: cant mount cache... i have tried to install the stock rom from the sd card and apparently shows that is installing, but then reboots and it get stuck in logo screen again. Another thing is that when i connect the phone to my pc, it doesnt recognize it, not even my PC make a sound when i connect the phone. I have tried to reflash with flash tools but it doesnt work cause the phone is not detected, is like a brick.. well.. then i have tried to make partition from cwm and nothing works and it doesnt installs the rom.
Now i can only access to recovey but nothing else, please someone help me :crying: :crying:
No one can help?
No one can help?
I have detected the problem. My internal card is bad formated, because it says can't mount emmc / data .... i have tried whith aroma wiper but i still cant recover the original partition (ext4). Someone have a tool to get back to my old partition????
Let me just start out by saying I'm a nube with limited skills. I have a Samsung Showcase SCH-S950C for Straightalk. I was sitting around on saturday and decided I would figure out how to root my phone because I had nothing better to do. I followed the instructions in a forum on this site and was able to root with no issues. After that I of course then decided to try my hand in flashing a custom rom to the phone (cyanogenmod) and this is where i went wrong. After flashing the rom I booted the phone and now the rom won't load and is stuck saying, "Unfortunately, setup wizard had stopped" and "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped." The only menu I can get into is the sound menue via the volume key.
The next step I took was to reboot the phone back into CWM to see what I could do. Upon loading I was faced with the below errors.
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Tried wiping the cache, factory reset and wiping dalvik and am unable to do so. It won't mount the cache, data or datadata. I then tried to put it back to stock via instructions for flashing a recovery mod for the phone and that did not take because I cant wipe it. From what I read i need to repartition the phone to fix this issue but I do not know how and honestly not even sure exactly what that means. As I said to start Im a nube. I also noticed in USB mode it says i now have 4 custom binarys on the phone and Im sure that is not helping things.
This is the point I stopped so as not to completely FUBAR the phone, if I have not already done so. If anyone can point me in the write direction on how to proceed I would greatly appreciate the help.

Moving my thread back up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Good evening,
I'm currently having this problem on CWM 6.0.4.5, after I went to "wipe cache partition" (to install a ROM)
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Some iterations of the error add a line on the top that says E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
The error consists in the device locked on recovery screen. If I try to reinstall the custom ROM, it installs but don't boot. Try to install the default ROM and it does not even load.
A palliative solution I found was:
- Reboot in download (not through CWM recovery, it wont identify the phone. Turn off on advanced at CWM then vol down + home + power, then volume up)
- Reinstall CWM recovery 6.0.4.5
- ???
- Profit
That seemed to make the phone start. Sadly, it still appears that yellow alert sign during the boot. At the moment I'm waiting the battery build up a little so I can try reinstall the original firmware through Odin but I do not know for sure if it will resolve the problem.
I'm creating this thread because although the internet is full of threads like this one, no one seems to solve the problem (mostly ask you to download some specific phone content, leaving our beloved i8552 behind), also are very confusing and well, overall non-resolving.
If anyone had some problems like this one or know how to fix the issue, please share with us! It'll help a lot of people.
(btw I'm scared sh#tless to reboot the phone!)
Best regards,
lakf

This happens because you flashed CWM. It won't be a major problem for daily use.
Also, I already gave you an suggestion through PM.
Found solution
As my fellow countryman said through PM, a simple solution was to reinstall the original rom with Odin.
Be aware that if you go in advanced at cwm and reboot as download mode (it calls bootloader if I recall) it won't work, you'll have to turn off the device and enter download mode normally! So, as simple as it seems to be the solution, it works.
TL;DR Version:
1) DON'T PANIC
2) Turn off the device
3) Turn on with volume down and home button pressed
4) Download your device firmware here at sam mobile
5) Install it through PDA button on Odin
6) Rejoice that you did not bricked your phone.. This time.
Hi, I wonder if you can help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 White 16GB, purchased in the UK for T-Mobile.
Some time ago I unlocked it to accommodate a Virgin Sim.
It has never been rooted, always running Stock Rom.
Just recently, on powering up, it reached the "Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300" splash screen and got no further.
Initially, I couldn't get to Recovery Mode, but could access Download Mode, so I flashed Stock Recovery. From here I attempted to "wipe data/factory reset", and received a barrage of errors, some of which are below:
Error mounting /data
E: format _volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
I have read and executed a string of methods from other threads on this forum, and some Youtube videos, in an attempt to get it working again. This included using ADB, on some of the mmcblk0p directories, but have failed to get the phone back in working order, stock would be ideal.
Currently I have ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.7 installed, but can change that again if need be.
I'm not precious about any of the data on the phone. I have a Mac and Jodin, and do have access to a PC and Odin, but only at work. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Should you require further info from me please do ask.
Thanks... Calhoon
Flash a stock rom via odin before you knacker it completely.
The problem is the recovery partition as that loads everything to start the os and it is complaining that it can't find cache. That means one of 2 things. Either the recovery partition is borked and needs fixing or the nand itself has died. You will only find out by flashing a stock rom, preferably the same as what was already on it but if you don't know then go for the latest. Make sure you get a single package and not the 4 individual parts.

Thanks shivadow,
Really appreciate your guidance here.
Gonna try and give you as much info as I can here. I followed your suggestion above.
Using on Windows 10, ODIN V1.85, which had Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time ticked.
I set the phone in Download Mode, (Power Button+Home+Volume Down), and connected to the PC via USB.
The screen before you press Volume Up to enter Download mode shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.
Download Mode shows Custom Binary Download: Yes (7 counts)
Odin shows status: yellow 0:[COM3] <ID:0/003>Added!!
To the PDA section I added this md5 file : I9300XXUGML2_I9300TMUGML2_I9300BVUGML1_HOME.tar.md5
which I'd extracted from TMU-I9300XXUGML2-20140325171933.zip, which I believe is 4.3 Jellybean for the UK T-Mobile handset.
I chose this as although now unlocked, this handset was originally a T-Mobile phone.
On Odin, I then pressed Start. A blue progress bar is shown on the phone.
This reaches its end and Odin reports Success.
The phone rebooted, I held the Recovery button config, Power Button, Home and Volume Up.
Initially I see the Android image with the blue icon, then it switches to the Android on its back with the red icon.
Once in Recovery the phone reports:
E: failed to mount / efs (No such file or directory)
E: failed to mount /cache
E: failed to mount/data
E: failed to mount/data/log/recovery_log.txt
E: failed to mount/system
E: failed to mount/cache recovery/log
can't open /cache recovery/log
Can't mount cache/recovery/last_log
Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
Can't mount /cache/recovery/last install
Can't open cache/recovery/last install
I then selected Wipe Data/Factory Reset, and the phone responds with:
Wiping data
Formatting /data
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
Formatting /cache
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
Data wipe complete
E:failed to mount /cache (Block device required)
can't mount /cache recovery/log
can't open /cache recovery/log
etc
This is the cycle I've basically been stuck in whilst attempting to recover this phone.
Any more advice would be greatly appreciated, and should you require further details from me, be it more in depth or not, please don't hesitate to ask.
Many thanks already.... Calhoon. :good:
Looks like the internal memory chip may be damaged.
You could take it to a cell shop to see if it can be force flashed using something like at Octopus Box.

Hi, thanks for the reply and advice.
Would you mind letting me know what is it that told you the internal memory chip may be damaged?
And if anyone else out there has an opinion I'd be please to hear it out.
Thanks.. Calhoon
Partitions that cannot be mounted by stock recovery is an indication of a memory problem. It could be that all partitions need to be re-created or the memory chip is damaged.
A failed memory chip on cellphones is not uncommon.

Apart from visiting a cell shop and asking them to force flash it, is there any way that you know where I could recreate the partitions myself?
Thanks again... Calhoon:good:
Dead phone. You can try flashing the original recovery on its own but if it fails to flash or fails to boot afterwards you can safely assume it us a dead phone with no way to recover it. Not even Samsung can do it. The only option is replace the motherboard.
