Why do some apps not show up in the Android market on the Archos 101? For example, I use an app called My Backup Pro...it doesn't show up. I searched for Lookout Mobile...it doesn't show...neither does Norton Mobile Security. I searched around but didn't find an answer to this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
caseym
not all apps will show up... from my understanding, protected apps do not appear. i myself have been looking for a few, and had to resort to side loading them.

Thanks!

Paid Apps Outside US?
I installed v5-final and have done the market fix several times but I only get free apps - NO paid ones. The catch is that I am located in Costa Rica - could someone comfirm that paid apps are only available in North America/Europe. If ALL (free and paid) apps are available everywhere then I have to figure out my problem, if not, I will just buy apps like crazy when I am back in the states (unless someone knows a work-around). Thanks.
I just tried the same thing and now my market app doesn't work. Any suggestions. Thanks
Just fixed it

Titanium backup in use?
i need to ask everyone with this issue, is everyone having this issue using titanium backup, and only seems to have problems after pulling from titanium's backup?
ill give my reasoning for this question...if you are having an issue, with certain apps just vanishing from the market on your phone.... even if you know its installed....
have a look at the list of questionable apps in TB, is there a yellow ball, with NO "M" overlaying it.... this may be the issue... you may have to delete all backup s for said app that DO NOT have a "M" ...wipe that apps data (in TB) and trying to restore from a backup that DOES have the "M"
please check this out, and let me know if i figured this out right... i have spent way too long pulling my hair out over this...and it seems like this was a fix for me...so far... ill edit in a few days if it all holds out
additional, if you are getting an "app incompatible" in the market... and have changed your LCD density , you will have to change it back to its default (240 for the DX) the new market seems to check for that.. and must label the device as unusable with the app, even if you KNOW its working just fine... i hope the market gets fixed to tolerate this...but im sure its part of the NEW market compatibility check
Hi Migamix,
If you have backups that don't contain a Market link, no need to delete them because they won't interfere - as long as you restore the one that has the link, of course.
When batch restoring it's a bit different, the latest backup for the chosen platform is picked, so you have to ensure that that one has a Market link.
But in any case, if you have the PRO version you can long-click and force attach it to to Market afterwards.

the force to market did not work for me, at all...many times, many tries.. some days im on a rom flashing fest...and some of those times ive done a batch restore and had only 20 apps in my market list.. its odd but it seems the only time it worked for me was after having the market attached "M" notification on all the files i wanted...i looked at this issue after letting the market auto restore post rom install, and manually pushed a few more that were causing problems...but i saw how 80% of the apps i restored (data only) refused to keep a link to the market... poked around.... uninstalled a problem app... noticed one of my older backups had an "M" while the rest didn't...so, i used that backup, and moments later that app was available in the market, and had an update... so i went and did it with a few more.... all those apps i managed to get installed in this fashion...still after 3 days, have not dropped their market links...where as...sometimes after a force market linking...would only last an hour if at all
i wanted to post this because i saw how many others were having the exact issue...i wanted to see if there is something in the way TB communicates with the data of the market ...causing market link confusion...
it seems like there needs to be a little more work with the market tools in TB....
ps, there also a setting i messed with that changed the way TB was getting market links... i think it was turning off accurate market check...
hopefully this post doesn't require too much re-reading....im a bit of a bad multitask'r sometimes
Hey guys,
Forgive me if this question has been covered, I did plenty of searching without finding what I was after.
I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
My question is, how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
For reference, I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a
Thanks.
Hey Guys,
So no body knows how to delete the link between app and Android Market so that the Market no longer knows it's installed?
Or am I best copying the app somehow, uninstalling it and then side-loading it?
Thanks.
Using Titanium Backup (Pro) long click/press on the app you want to 'disconnect' from the market.
Then select Detach from Market
I added (Pro) because I'm not sure if it works on the standard version or not..which I'd highly recommend getting the pro version if you don't already have it.
Awesome thanks for the tip, I didin't know there was an extended menu if I long-pressed an app in Ti Backup.
Though once I long-press, 'Disconnect' is greyed out. And in fact, all my apps have this greyed out (And I do have pro), yet they all show in Android Market?
'Force Attach to Market' doesn't seem to do anything either.
Weird, I'm able to Detach the market link of both /data and /system apps - some of which I do and do not have backups of.
I'm not sure if this will really do anything, but you can always try using the "market doctor" to find missing market links, then see if you're able to remove the link that it finds. But to be honest, I'm not really sure that will do the trick nor do I have any clue why that option isn't available to you
Only other thing I can think of is to clear the market's cache/data:
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Market
click force stop then clear data & clear cache
If they're both blanked out, just use TiBackup to wipe the market data.
After all that, see if you're able to Detach the Market Links
Hope this works

Thanks for the help.
Looks like clearing the data from the Market app (as you described) has allowed me to detach my apps from the Market through Ti Backup now.
That's not how I managed to do it though. I did it a far more complicated way!
I made sure I had a backup of the app, then uninstalled it.
I then browsed to the Titanium Backup backup folder on the internal SD card, and found the *.properties file of the app in question.
Long press on it and opened it in Text Editor.
I then deleted out every line that started with 'market.'
I then saved it, and Ti Backup automatically creates a backup of the original file.
Then I restored the app.
But to get this process to work, I also had to clear the Market app data (as per your tip).
Did I mention complicated!

Not sure I'll get a reply on an over a year old thread but worth a try. I tried this method but didn't work for me. When restoring the app did you restore data also? Thanks.
I'm still here!
The app I was trying to disconnect from the market I don't think had any real data to restore, so I don't think I was restoring data as well, no.
I'd say both the Market (now Play Store) and Ti Backup have changed a fair bit since this post. Ti Backup does have the ability to detach apps from the Play Store, if you find it in the app list and long press it will show the option. Some apps I think won't detach, and it could be because they're linked to your google/gmail account (for certain permissions or whatever). If they remain linked to that account, then I guess the Play Store still thinks it's installed on the phone (because it is).
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help!

Thanks for the reply. The app I wanted to break from the market is Business Calendar Pro that I bought a while back. The new updates don't work with the ROM on my phone so I wanted to stop the updates. I have MyBackup Pro and it has an option to break the market link but doesn't work. I haven't bought Ti Backup but use the free version. I don't want to buy it just to find that it won't work. I don't think Biz Cal uses google data but it does us the built in calendar's data so that might be why I can't break the link. Oh well. I'll keep trying different options. Thanks again.
Hi, not sure if this will do the trick but you could try extracting the APK for the app (not sure if TiB can do it or this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extract.apk) And then uninstall the market version and side-load the extracted version. I have a feeling it may not work as sometimes when I've side-loaded beta versions the released version has shown up in the Play Store as installed. When I try and uninstall it from there, the Play app tells me the app wasn't installed from Play and gets me to confirm uninstall.
I guess that's the long way of saying that the Play Store app must be using some mechanism to detect apps installed on the phone, even if not from the store.
Thanks again but the market seems to keep the data linked somehow. I'll keep trying different scenarios I guess...
did you find any method that work?
Honestly I haven't had time to mess around with it this weekend, but I'll keep up on the research and post here if I find something out. Thanks
Titanium Backup is not working for sure, at least for now, maibe they'll fix this sometimes!

found a fix
Hey. So I was looking around some more and found an app called "market fixer" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer&hl=en
It seems to scan apps that aren't linked to the market. The other thing it does, if you "scan all links", is give you all your market links which you can then select and "delete market link"
I check and it works. Also some reported it stops working on reboot, but mine worked fine. The app does warn that it will need to be reapplied if market data is cleared. Just wanted to update you and hopefully help anyone else with these troubles
Hi. I just gave this ago and worked very well. Thanks for finding that out and sharing.

update on market fixer. I guess if you clean google play cache it relinks also. easy enough for me to use market fixer before I "update all" though so no prob for me.
I want to know but not sure how to proof it since the statistic in android market is not in real time. If I send my app to friends in apk file and they've installed, will android market count as net/device install? thanks

It will not specify how you installed the app. The app will just be shown as installed if you search for it on the market (and if you use Titanium Backup's Market Doctor, then you can attach it for it to show up in the "My Apps" section - for some apps).

There isn't any other way to attach the market link to the app, not using Titanium Backup. Once, My Apps section of Market stoped working, and Titanium Backup caused that.

what i curious is does android market know when a user installed the apk from an external source (same signature). if yes, can i say that the download number in market is the overall download numbers from all the sources of the app?

No, it will not know. No, it would not add to the download number in the market.
Speaking from first-hand experience, don't be so sure that either the Android Market or Amazon Appstore stop counting (or knowing) about apps just because they are side-loaded.
Our current app doesn't show an increase in downloaded users, but Google does report "active" users, and that number can differ from the download number. Moreover, Amazon Appstore currently "finds" apps installed on a device and matches them with apps in their list and they will try to update them.
One last note: app developers can and do put all kinds of code in their apps that touch live Google and Amazon APIs and components. This code will communicate with those services even if the app arrives on the device indirectly... so there are still many ways an app can be tracked besides just direct download numbers.

I Sent my market purchased apps to my spouses new phone, without my account on it, and they updated through his account, but only free versions. To get the update on paid versions I had to install my account, so there is definitely something going on in the signature.
If the developer updates their apps with any regularity the download count will rectify itself during the update process. BTW, Amazon does this as well. I am always offered to update my Market apps through Amazon (if free on both) but typically Market has the update before Amazon.
Cheers!

I have a few "less than legal" apps, I want to remove them (including the false "Purchased" status from the Market) so that I can legitimately purchase them. Can anyone help?
The easiest way is to just uninstall them and then buy them. This may remove user data. Another way would be to use titanium backup to detach the app from market so that you can buy it, otherwise it will show as already installed. This method will let you keep user data.
Questions about "less than legal apps" can and will get you flamed on xda.
Since you are trying to legitimately purchase them, I decided to help you out by answering your question.
Assuming you are rooted, the best way is to download the free version of titanium backup and deleted them though that app. Be careful that you know what you are deleting with it, you can delete vital files if you just go on a deleting spree!
You could also goto Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All >
Find the app, and delete it from there.
Thank you, I wasn't trying to break the rules. I am rooted, have TB, and have tried detaching from Market, uninstalling, wiping Market data/cache/updates, but it still shows Purchased and won't allow me to buy it.

Did you clear data on the app in TB? Not sure what else to try. Cannot be of any more help sorry.
I'm having the same problem. I had only one application and now I want to buy it. How can I? I tried uninstalling apps, Detaching using Titanium backup etc. Problem is even after the Google play store listing this as Purchased.
Let me begin by saying that I in no way condone pirating apps and such, but since you are changing your ways...
Try wiping data and uninstalling apps, then add or create a new google account in Settings>Accounts. Then go to Market (Google Play, whatever), hit the menu button, click Accounts and switch it to your new account, and go get the apps that you want to legitimately aquire..
The down sides are that you can only use a CC with the 2nd accnt to make purchases, and u got to keep and worry about two diff accounts when changing roms and whatnot.
You can't change the purchased status on the google server, In other words you are screwed, unless you want to email google with your problem and have them change it (not advised)
the two options you have is : make a new google account and loose everything you have now or find an alternative app that does the same (better or worse)
Here's a though : E-mail the developers.
Ask if there is a way you can send them the money directly (paypal, money order, etc)
to make up for the fact that you now have purchased status in the market.
They are humans like you and I, and my understand and even appreciate your honesty and intention for bringing it up. They may even let you off the hook! Make sure you apologise , of course.

This is how you solve it mate (remember to thank )
The way to get around this issue on both Gingerbread & ICS is as follows:
Wipe Market data, uninstall market (or uninstall market updates)
Install old version of Market (version 2.3.6 - you need to find the .apk from XDA)
Open old version of Market and buy/download the app
Tada!
This worked for me.. I was in a similar situation! Trust me you don't need to contact Google or create another account or any of that mallarky! Just do the three steps above and your laughing!

If you completely remove the Market/GoogPlay and reinstall, you're going to lose any other apps that you already legitimately paid for.. aren't you? I was going to do this but I was afraid to lose the more expensive apps that I purchased if I wiped the Market from my system..
I had a couple of non-market apps that I wanted to pay for through the market, and two gmails anyway so, I figured why not...
All apps from both accounts show up on my phone together, they are only separate when I go into the market - but that's why they have an Accounts button in the menu, right?

Finally got it working!! It seems that on old Market versions this bug did not exist. So I did the following:
Method 1:
1. Go to Settings\Applications\Manage applications\All\
2. Look for "Market" or "Google Play Store"
3. Click on "Uninstall Updates"
4. Now go to the Market (should be the old green/white version) and install your desired app. It should no longer say "Purchased" and Presto!!
But you have to be fast before the market updates itself to "Google Play Store" or you can freeze the "Market Updater" app using Titanium Backup so you can do your thing without worring of it updating to the new version.
Method 2:
Find an old Market apk and replace the current one. Not sure which version it works because once I purchased my app it immediately updated the market and didn't give me chance to see the version .Should be the green/white app we had before.
Hope it works for you guys too!

I'm looking for an app manager that will allow me to organize and push install apps to my android device. Google Play's web interface doesn't really allow me to do anything but manually scroll through the hundreds of apps that I have installed over the years...very time consuming. I'm familiar with TiBu and friends, but that's not really what I'm after right now. I'd like to be able to group my apps and install those groups to my phone. I'm pretty much tied to Google Play, I know there are alternative stores but I'm not wanting to go that route right now.
Just being able to sort apps into folders and install folders all through a web app (or PC/MAC GUI) would work.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Root browser isn't really what I'm looking for. I should have been more clear in my post. I'm looking for a way of categorizing "My Apps" in the Google Play store. Then pushing those groupings of apps to my phone. Google doesn't seem to offer this with their management interface (web gui). I know there is an API to the Play store, I'm guessing what I'm looking for would use that.
