[Q] Changing Stock Icons. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am making a ROM. And I'm trying to change the stock icons. I've tried every posssible way but i just can't change them. I'm trying to theme Holo Launcher with custom icons. The icons I have are hdpi. So i don't know how to turn them to mdpi. Is there any way i can turn it to mdpi on my PC. And what are the icons supposed to be renamed as well as which directory am i supposed to place them.

No need to convert

Settings.apk/res/drawable-hdpi
you sir are awsome, thank you.
Something a little close to what the first post was talking about. In the settings.apk I have one that was themed and what to use a few of the pngs in other settings.apk sinse I reflashed with a new rom. I've already push a few back that I changed. The png i what to use is a 4G stat data connected, but the color needs be changed to cyanogen and a little transparent for CM6. What program besides PS4 can I use to do it
Thanks
I know you can use photoshop. Those are greyscale.go to image>mode>rgb, then you can make color. For transparent, use eraser too to delete the background. (Its how I did my stuff)

This is not development, so moved to Q&A
Pull your framework-res and have a look, or the apps apk and change it directly.
What im trying to do is add icons to a theme im making , ive added some which i had to rename in order for them to replace some of thr default icons for apps when activating the theme. But i would like to replace some other default icons but i need to find out what to rename my custom icons too in order to replace the remaining default app icons when i activate the theme (adw launcher)

I had the same issue with my modded theme ADW theme, you need to pull the apps such as "Conversations.apk" which is basically MMS.apk on 1.6 and either change the icon in the apk itself or rename the icons in the theme to what they are now called in 2.1, and the only way you'll find that out is by pulling the apks and opening them.
Ferk.... alot of digging around , after ive found as many as i can that work ill post a list of what to rename your icons to in your theme to replace the default icons. If you or anyone else already knows some can ya post it to help out thanks
Looking for stuff like this .....
Shortcut icon to the camera is named ....
Com_camera_cameraactivity
(or something like that)
So i would need to rename my icon from icon.png to com_camera_cameraactivity.png , then place it in the theme apk using eclipse , under a folder named /res/drawables_hdpi/ .
After that i would install the theme and the camera icon will have changed to the icon i want.
So thats the info we require ; the correct icon renames for as many apps as posible .

[Q] Miui icons

hey everyone got a quick question.
so ive searched and searched multiple forums and threads and i just can't find away to do this. what i would like to do is change some miui system icons with out applying a whole theme. like going into the icons of the theme and just changing the ones on my homescreen. i know that if you use a different launcher you can change them but i do not want to use an alternate launcher i would like to use the stock launcher. if anyone can't point me in the right direction on changing them feel free to post in here or message me.
thanks in advance
You can either open the theme you're using and modify or add the icons, or you can use Desktop Visualizer. You'll still have the app icons on your screen, you can just put them in a folder if you want. Use a Desktop Visualizer widget, don't use the shortcut.
If you need help changing your theme (or making an icon theme if you're not using a theme) you can pm me & I'll do it for you. Just send me the icons and name them what you want them to be. If you don't know how to name them properly, I can do it. I just need to know what you want the icon to represent.

7zip should work. Unzip the theme, and inside you'll see an "icons" file. Add a zip extension and extract. Add/replace the icons that you want - they have to be named the process name. For example, if you want to add an icon for the Market, you'd name it "com.android.vending.png". You wouldn't add the png extension since it's already there. The MIUI Music app would be com.miui.player.png, and so on. Once you've finished, rezip the icons and remove the zip extension. Then zip up the whole theme and change zip to mtz.
I know a lot of the popular process names off the top of my head because I do this a lot. It's actually faster for me to do it for you than to try to give a step by step guide, so if you run into issues send me a pm.

[Q] TouchWiz lockscreen icon editing possible?

I know you can change the items, but is it possible to change the default icons on the lockscreen in any way? I prefer the stock Android icons over the TouchWiz icons. Can they be edited, or is there any way to change them?

open the apps for which you want to change the icons using the apktool..you will find numerous guides on how to do it..
go to res>drawable-xhdpi
find ic_launcher_xxx or something like it
change it..
recompile it and push it back into your phone..
you are done..

Of course. Use a third party theme from all over the internet. Or use EMUI Theme Editor.
There are some good stock themes where you can choose to change
with the theme only the icons..
And other ones do maybe more modify the looks..
Just search a bit you could find what you are asking for
