[solved]problems regarding ics rom - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using ics passion rom for past 5 months .....recently tried flashing iczen and encountered these problems .......1-whenever I flash an ics rom it bootloops and each time I have to remove battery and rebot again ...like this for nearly 3 to 5 times if I do after that it boots properly after that It runs fine .....2-after installing iczen for 1 day it worked fine later it was not recievieng any calls but i was able to call others ....for information I stay in India so worried of doing something as I won't get any support here ....now I'm on ics passion ...plz help me out.

Well the problem is, and maybe this is why no one replied, you need to do a full wipe and a cache wipe before flashing into diff roms like from passion to iczen

Aside from wiping properly, you might have downloaded the problematic ICZen 1.8.5, check your MD5 against what I have posted in that OP.
For about 12 hours I had one posted that had a problem with the ramdisk in the kernel, and it was not compatible with the Froyo RIL that was included with the AOKP milestone6 source MP used to build the ICZen base. The rom has since been updated with a good kernel that supports both RIL types, and a new MD5 is posted in the thread so you can verify if you have the correct version. Not all phones had the issue, but some did, it was a weird one, but it caused exactly what you are experiencing, loss of signal and ability to receive calls and texts.
Also, you might want to try the Stock RIL, thats posted on the other site, in mr_psycho's subZero kernel thread. Its a flashable zip. The kernel currently in ICZen_1.8.5 is compatible with both RILs now, so if you redownload the rom, you'll be safe either way.

after flashing 1.8.5 again its working properly ......thanx for helping another thing does baseband version changes after flashing a rom? I have same version in both ics passion and iczen is this normal?

ICZen won't flash the modem if you already have a valid modem in place. In other words, if you come from a Twiz based build, then it flashes the KB5 modem, but coming from another ICS rom, it won't flash a modem since there is already one there.

Lost sms after flashing to cyanogenmod7 and any othere rom so far.

I've been doing pretty well at flashing new roms and thought i had the hang of it. But when I went from a complete stock fascinate > root > Correct Rom manager install > to Cyanogen mod 7 rom. I can not send or receive sms. I have flashed a couple other roms and even the new nightlies for Cm7. Am I missing something? Is it kernel Based?
Sorry for the newbness of it. But I have been working on this for a couple days now.

I would suggest to use Odin to flash recovery, or VZW roms (when starting fresh or returning to stock, or if the rom is made for Odin flashing) and use cwm recovery to install roms, kernels, zip files or whatever and get away from rom manager...it doesn't work well with the fascinate and while some files and recovery's will flash through rom manager you'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you learn Odin and cwm, now....its not hard, you just have to read, and read and read, especially the stickies in the a and a and Dev section. ultimately though I think you're problem is based on using rom manager for you're install.
This will get you on the right track and all off the links for Odin, recovery, and instructions are in the first post.

That's what it was, I was under the assumption the radio file had updated and it hadn't. Guess i just missed the error in Odin. I just updated to EC09 and they started working.
Is that the newest radio available?

EC09 has proven to have the best performance with all the GB roms (since it's a modem from the GB vzw leak). But it's not the newest since build date is E=2011 C=march 09th.

[Q] Flashing rom from Froyo

Hi, I successfully flashed my T-mobile Vibrant about twelve months ago to a custom 2.2 Froyo rom (Trigger 3.2 Final). It's a great rom and EVERYTHING works. However lately I've read rave things said about newer roms such as ICS passion. It's been a while and I'm still a noobie at this so my question is:
What is the easiest way to get to ICS passion from my current custom Froyo rom ? Thanks ~ Chris
hi,
Its very easy to get ICS running on your vibe. There may be various ways to proceed. I ll give you what I did (AFTER failing for 5-6 times )
Odin back to stock (It may be not necessary. But I started from the beginning which is better AFAIK )
Then stored ICS ROM (ICZen which in my case) and update.zip (CWM) on internal SD
then flashed GB Bootloaders (It also may/ may not necessary. But I did it b/c I already had many failed attempts)
Then flashed CM7 first
After that flashed ICS on top of it
Worked at last for me
NOTE: Please read relevant instructions provided by ROMs b/c flashing one may differ from flashing another.
You can find more information if you run into problems in my thread [SOLVED]Cannot install ICS ROM--please HELP

^^^ Truth
And I would suggest staying away from Passion. It is based on 4.0.3 and there was a pretty significant code upgread when ICS went to 4.0.4.
IIRC, Passion is the last ROM that still uses 4.0.3 and is probably why it is dead now (but for some reason lives in infamy on YouTube and Google Search).
Haarsh's way works just fine but here is another method as another option too.
Thanks
Thanks for the replies. This is why I subscribed to the forum.
mmm... I see a few pitfalls ahead.
Background info from me is that I can't use Odin on my Linux computer. Never really got into Heimdall. I flashed my first rom by downloading the rom zip file and put it on my phone's internal sd card then let clockwork do the rest, ie nandroid backup and flash the rom from the update zip. I'd like to do the same again.
Ok, it's my understanding that anything above 2.2 needs the GB bootloader so the first step is to install that over my Trigger rom. I think Trigger would still run with the GB bootloader at that stage. Next download an update zip of a rom of my choice, put it on my phone's sd, then flash it with Clockwork.
Seems to me that should work or am I missing something I wonder ?
You can flash the GB bootloader. Its backward compatible so it will work with any ROM currently available.
Download the .zip of the ROM you want, and any Gapps if applicable. Then just follow the instructions on page 1 of the ROM (OP).
The usual would be Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Clear Cache, Clear Dalvik. Flash ROM, flash Gapps, restart. The instructions will tell you all you need to know.
If something goes wrong, give us a shout. That's what we're here for.

[Q] Reception / antenna problems (GetRIL)

hello fellow xdas
while back i had gotten my hands dirty with the CM10 project as i just couldn't wait for the official update! i learned quickly that i had serious problems with antenna/reception. i tried carious base bands (as recommended on forums) using GetRil/flash.Odin. this didnt seem to help, even though i would get better reception, my signal was unstable. In the process i tried other roms like JellyBam and had the same issue.
As this is my main phone and i do actually need to call with it, i went back to the stock rom i downloaded. but surprisingly i still have the same issue! GetRil also shows that i have incompatible RIL/baseband. this is what it shows:
RIL: I9100NELP2; I9100XXKI4
Baseband: I9100XXLPQ
FYI: i am located in the Netherlands and use T-mobile network.
so have i installed the wrong ROM or done something wrong in the process... ? does anyone have any experience with this? i much rather have CM10 but only if i can get to call normally once again?
thanks

Use either of the 2 links below to download either the NELP2 modem of the XXKI4 modem, and them flash them onto your phone via Recovery Mode. That should resolved your incompatible RIL issue.

thanks a lot zee54,
can i just go back to my CM10 or JellyBam, install the above mentioned radios and get everything working? or does it depend on the RIL which that ROM is running! I have tried a number of modems when i had CM10, but dont know if i tried those... i did try BVLP7 for sure
Based on this forum right here i need to have the I9100BOLPD ROM as stock for Netherlands T Mobile!

The modem is independent of the ROM, mate. So it wont make much of a difference whether you install the radio on stock firmware or on CM10. You could try using the modems mentioned by zee54 with CM10 and seeing if it helps. Also, give it about a day or so..since the phone tends to take a while to get 'used' to a new modem.

The unstable signal or "RIL Crash" as it it called isn't actually caused by having an incompatible RIL and Baseband (modem). It is a more complicated issue which I don't fully understand myself. But what I do know is that it currently affects all customs roms that are based on CM10 and use the CM Kernel. So switching modems might help recude the frequency of the problem but probably won't irradicate it completely.
You should not experiencing this problem if you go back to stock samsung firmware. If you experience problems you might want to do a full wipe (Data, Cache, Dalvic-cache) before reflashing and fix permissions afterwards.
On a more positive note, I have found that using the Siyah Kernel with your custom rom does seem to eliminate this problem, or at least reduce it occurance to such that I have not noticed it happening.
So personally i would suggest that if you wish to go back to CM10 or JellyBam ROMs, then do so but also install the latest Siyah Kernel for the S2 from here http://www.gokhanmoral.com/
(Here's the XDA Thread for the Siyah Kernel - [KERNEL] SiyahKernel v4.1.5 (v5.0a2))
I am currently running CM10 with the Siyah Kernel v5.0b2 and it is working very nicely
great stuff guys... 2x thanks for both of you!
Zeey54, i just had Siyah v5 Kernal installed, installing the latest JellyBam right now! so lets see what happens. i was suspecting that beside the RIL/baseband there were other factors as i did not see any significant difference between them. but then again i dont trust my judgement on such issues as my knowledge is quite limited.
will send an update with the result after installation in a few min.

installed the BOLP7 modem, overall reception is much better! data connectivity is also better and faster. but i still have some periods which my receptions drops and goes back up, seems like radio/modem crash (if im right). dont know if that is due to the kernel or modem or ...?
the reason i went for BOLP7 modem was because the latest official stock rom from t-mobile Netherlands was I9100BOLPM_I9100TNLLP8_I9100BOLP7, so i thought that would be the best one to try!
will wait a little more to see if this improves as the modem settles.
4th official ROM too much coverage you please make a review ?
need modem
First of all, thank you mate for your hardwork and awesome utility.
I have a Samsung galaxy S2 I9100G , recently flashed jelly bam custom rom. I am based in Saudi Arabia, the reception is not clear and people complain that it is switched off or out of network. I tried calling with another mobile and i got a response that my mobile is switched off, at the same time i checked my S2 mobile , it shows the full signal of the network in status bar.
what should i do? Which modem should i flash. the getRIL shows RIL/baseband is matching (I9100GDDLP5).
cheers

Upgrading from ICS to JB problem

I've been using RemICS 1.3.1 ROM for a while. And now I'd like to upgrade to current 4.2.1 version but I'm getting Status 7 error: assert failed. I've found that I should try using Icy Glitch v14 kernel to flash a new rom but all links to this kernel are dead and I can't find it. Can someone help me to upgrade?
BTW: Should I expect some new bug on JB ? GPS is still not working there I guess...

I had the same thing at some point last night as well, along with all the unknown upload mode errors and a series of other issues. The best advice I can give is to just keep trying different combinations.
I did end up going all the way back to stock a number of times. This might sound silly, but if I remember correctly, I successfully flashed ICZen and then I installed RemICS-JB from there. Had to swap the vold.fstab of course, but it's running very smoothly with RemICS-JB and Semaphore 2.9.
Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance, but with the amount of combinations and paths I tried, it's all a jumble.
Hi,
It gave me Status 7 error. Then I pulled the battery and rebooted into CWM. But after that it gave me freezed kernel screen
and I again did a battery pull and booted into CWM which was then converted to semaphore. Then I flashed the ROM again and gapps successfully
Hope this helps

Stable Rom

I would like to install a rom on my recently purchased galaxy facinate. I need to use the bluetooth and gps a lot, so I need a rom that has both of those working very well. What is the best stable rom to use for this? I have installed roms on previous phones and have had troubles with various functions, but I'm certain someone out there must know a good and stable one that noob like me could use.
Thank you for your time.
First take a look through this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132986 as it's a recent discussion about the same thing. Anyway, I would personally recommend CM 10.1 as I've been on it for a while now and it's rock solid (I've used BT and GPS on it too).
I want to make sure I use the proper instructions/files, I have found mixing up the roms can cause me troubles in past builds. I found these instructions on the forums, are those links still accurate for the CM10.1 build or do you know of a better installation method. Im focusing mostly on ...
--------
Step 2: Download ICS Teamhacksung Build 1 or 2 to the root of your devices sd card.
--------
but if you don't mind setting my mind at ease that I should use those files and then flash CM10.1 on top of those files/steps it will save me some headaches I'm sure. Again thank you for your time.
Step 1: Download these files to your pc:
Odin- http://www.mediafire.com/?5y0vkhz85w3j4cz
Samsung Driver- http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25089906/SAM...ile_Phones.exe
CWM4 fixed for cm7- http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311907538
Stock EH03 rom- http://www.imnuts.org/downloads/fasc..._GB_CM.tar.md5
Atlas_v2.2 pit- http://www.mediafire.com/?r2mi80911vgjjjz
GB bootloaders- http://goo.gl/6aJ1N (this needs to be extracted with a program such as 7zip)
Step 2: Download ICS Teamhacksung Build 1 or 2 to the root of your devices sd card.
THS Build 1- https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69414229/fa...eng.BUILD1.zip
It looks like you pulled that from droidstyle's guide, which is exactly where you needed to go and everything is accurate.
About the THS flash... well, different people here seem to have different experiences. On my device I don't flash THS before installing anything, I go directly from flashing CWM4 to flashing whatever I want to and have no issues, but there have been people on here who get errors that way. If it makes you feel better to flash THS before CM 10.1 then go for it, it won't hurt anything, it'll just take longer.
This whole process is not something you should have to do again unless you really mess something up, once you're on CM 10.1 you only need to reboot into recovery, wipe data/davlik/cache and flash whatever other rom you want to. There are a lot of good roms available that you might want to check out, in fact one of the more popular roms Paranoid Android just came out with a new version that looks pretty good.
This phone is hard to break, just don't get careless and you'll be fine honestly.
do you need to install gapps in addition to the cm10.1 nightly? and to verify you installed cm10.1 directly after cm7 skipping gbbootloader and teamhack installs?
I also found these set of instructions that seem easier, would this be the better way to go?

Yes, you do flash gapps after installing cm10. You do it immediately after flashing the ROM in recovery, no need to reboot first (better not to, in fact).
Process-wise, I've never reached for Heimdall, always used Odin, but the cm wiki article looks like a more tedious process to me...
Once you've got the USB drivers + Odin installed, and the various flashable files handy, we're only talking a few steps to go from stock to cm10.1.
Do note that after you've got JT's clockwork recovery installed, the cm instructions say to flash your cm ROM directly without flashing the older THS ROM first .

I just bought a Samsung Fascinate and was also wondering what people are using.
I tried the latest 4.22 versions of Hellybean and JellyBro. about the only thing I noticed was that the overclock setting on Hellybean had a top range of 1.4 GHZ and JellyBro topped out at 1.2.
