Now that I've made a new thread for rooting the X10i-model, anyone is free & welcome to add thorough instructions here on how to do so.
I'm a little tired of poorly written guides in the other thread that gives you nothing but confusion.
Please don't close this thread as I believe other people get confused TO about how to root an X10i.
Like THIS for instance:
1. Download the rar-file (link here).
2. Unzip/pack it.
3. Enable Debugging in Settings ->..............
4. Shutdown your SonyEricsson X10i.
5. Start StepX.bat
6. ...................................
7. ....................................
8. Done! Your phone is now rooted with version XXXXXXX
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717949
i don't see any link..
Why are you differing between x10i and x10a? Its the same. There is a much simpler way to root any FW.
1) Download and install flashtool
2) Plug in phone and press root
3) Done, reboot and there you go

2. If i update to ICS will root stay or do i have to re-root
3. If yes for question 2 will there be root for ICS the first day ICS will arrive?
4. My last question can someone give me a link for a good tutorial to root my xperia s..?
Thanks all

yes for now the only way to root is to install the custom img using the fastboot which required the unlocking once you give it imei to sony the the only option to get the ICS will be via the flashtool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527133
So my xperia interface will change a bit if i do this root?
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
No change to the interface once you root.
Guys come on be a little more specific, i am new to android i dont know what all these stuff means etc explain me when u say something in good details. What is flashtool. Pleaseee

If you don't really understand what rooting your phone means then I would suggest that you don't really have a need to do it.
If you want to know how to unlock your bootloader and root your XS then read the relevant stickies in the Dev Forum, they explain everything in detail, you just have to spend the time to read them.

Read the very very detailed explanations, links, etc in the dev forum.
Ok guys since i am (forgive me because of this) a toooootal noob of rooting flashing and everything that includes what you guys are doing here (developers) i am asking you for a help.I cannot figure out how to root this phone (Sony Xperia S Lt26i running ICS 4.0.4).Now i believe that i read somewhere (i dont know where i looked on many threads) that is possible just to root your phone,so you don't mess with factory rom (which is exactly i want). So if someone can post here or give me the exact thread where i can see basicly in details (step by step) how to root this phone with all unlocking bootloaders and flashing and everything. If you could do that for me (anyone) i would be so thankful!!!Thanks in advance
BTW I am new here so forgive me for all mistakes i made (if I made)
First of all, is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
Unfortunately noo i saw it right now is there anything i can do!!!???

Did you create two duplicate threads?
I kind a had to because noone answered me on my first thread i'm so sorry if i broke any rule of this forum i haven't meant to do i will delete it right away!!!!

Hi all,
I've tried every method in xda forum to root my xperia P lt22i without success.
It mounts ICS Build Number 6.1.1.B.1.54, locked bootloader, kernel 3.0.8+, usb debugging mode on, third part software allowed, back up and restore already installed.
When i try to flash the .559 kernel, flashtool returns me an error during flash, but I don't understand bacause i've installed all the drivers included in the package. When I click the root button it runs good till the end, but after the rebooting no sign of superuser app.
When I try to run the runme.bat of Binary's app (every version of it), it runs smoothly to the end and it returns to me that the phone has been rooted, but there's no trace of the superuser app after the rebooting.
Is it probable that I could have an unrootable phone?
Thanks in advance for your advices and answers,
Stevuna.

Because I don't have permission to wirte there, I have to make 10 posts.
Chances of getting a helpful reply here are low, maybe first make ten posts and then post there. Remember not to spam. Btw I think you can post on Q/A section without 10 posts (I can't remember)

hi guys, you need root explorer to do this..
before u proceed read this...
-do a backup via recovery(dont forget!)
-im not responsible if anything happens to your phone...
-you need root explorer app(you have this app)
instructions....
open root explorer app
go to system/build.prop tick mount as r/w first at the top ,hold build.prop then select open in text editor, if you see a 2.3.7(minicm7users) change it to desire version ex. 4.1.2(dont forget about the dots)
then reboot, after reboot go to menu/settings/about phone you will see the change... no downloads no 3g expenses dont forget to click thanks...

Basically what are you really saying? That changing 2.3.7 to 4.1.2 will change GB for JB? Or is it only the numbers that change but the rest remains the same?.
Ok i get it, it remains GB with the numbers changed only, just to show off friends that we have a (fake) JB android, for the people that like doing that then good luck and enjoy , i prefer reality and honesty.
Cheers
Why not put Key Lime Pie 5.0.0 in there LOL? You should change thread name to "How to trick your friends that you run jb on your mini while running gb" :/
