My friend has a galaxy s 2 on stock ics (rooted) and when he uses his messaging app in landscape mode it splits where one half of the screen are the people he texted and the other of shows texts from the selected contact. It looks sweet and it would look awesome on our 4.8 inch screens. Can anyone get this for our phones?

Does the note have a text messaging app similar to iphone? I like how my wife's iphone has all the text pop up on her screen when it is locked. Does android have a similar setup? The iphone can pop up multiple text if they are not viewed right away. Thank you. I have never had a smartphone so don't know what android has to offer.
Just go to market and look at it. They're all like **** load of apps like that.

But does it come with a stock app like that like the iphone has? I had a smartphone for about 2 weeks last year and found out that alot of apps don't always work properly.
Handcent in the market works pretty much perfectly doing what you want. The advantage of android over IOS is that if you don't like a stock application, odds are someone has written and published one that does what you want.

Go SMS is pretty iphone-ish. Stock theme even looks like it.

handcent also. It actually has a setting called iphone lol!
Get Go SMS Pro from the Android Market. Within this app there is an iPhone Theme. You can even tweak the settings to enable a pop-up or in the Notification Bar.

Or if you just want the pop up you can download SMS Pop Up

Every time I share a picture via twitter, g+, Facebook, or mms, or even upload it to a message board, the orientation defaults to landscape regardless if its taken in portrait mode. This is pretty annoying. It also happens when I try to edit my avatar using the xda app.
How can I fix this so that a picture is uploaded in the orientation that the picture is taken in?

I've noticed this too (at&t Samsung Note i717). My workaround is to crop it to just about full size. Its a pain in the neck though.

That's precisely what id like to avoid doing on a regular basis. There has to be a fix for this...

In other word, short and sweet. Does the built in sms app fix the receiving 1 or multiple images as a slideshow? I know it isn't really a bug and is just how the app works, but I was wondering if there were any changes to the sms app in Jelly Bean for those who may not want that feature.
I am currently using Handcent but sometimes I still get images as a slideshow. I'm also having to click on the message to download it before I can view the slideshow.
Just wondering.Thanks!
I am on 4.1.0, and it still shows up as a slideshow in both default and handcent

Bah! I still can't figure out why this even a feature.
Oh well it isn't the end of the world.

Its annoying as hell! Wish the stupid slide show could be killed off!
I am a fan of Touchwiz but am open to trying other launchers. The problem seems to be the badge system doesn't work fully on any of the ones I have looked at.
Do you know of a launcher which can show numeric bubbles for unread items on SMS, email, facebook etc?
Lots do SMS and Gmail but I need the email as well, I don't even use Gmail.
Suggest away
NovaLauncher + NovaPrime + TeslaUnread does gmail, htc email, samsung email and k-9 mail.

Does a non TW launcher just offer more customisation?

I appreciate why people do this, but it is not for me.
If I can extract another hour of battery life I would do it, but just to make it look prettier, not for now.
If I can remove all the TW framework I might have another go
This was brought up in the Q&A section, so I thought I would post this here. This tip applies to the stock text messaging app:
Pinch the screen in either direction within a text conversation and it will either increase or decrease the bubbles and font size.

The one thing I dislike about the phone, the SMS/MMS app...its soooo iPhone Cartoony!!! can't stand it lol. Using slide messaging pro so I dont have to stare at the default.
I really like the pop-ups on stock SMS so I'm still using that.. mainly bc they don't interrupt what you're doing. I use glowfly on all my phones as sms pop-ups, but if I'm watching a video it pauses the video and takes priority... stock SMS doesn't. it's like a mini q slide app. I like it.

ah, thank you!
I looked everywhere for this
Textra has been working very well for me. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the look of the stock SMS app

Problem I have is even pinched out to smallest size and using smallest font in settings, the stock messaging app text is *huge*! Just switched to using Chomp SMS & works much better.
