Rooting - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok. Just got my phone back from repair centre after i had soft bricked it. Was previously using gingerbread roms and now that i have had it updated it is on 4.0.3 and want to root again due to shocking battery life from stock t-mobile Rom. Previously i used odin to flash lightening Rom which gave me root. So, with the below details should i just flash an insecure kernel using odin and then use recovery to flash new Rom. To be honest i am happy with stock Rom but just want better battery life.

Just a guess: Maybe it is the update from XWLPX to XWLPY.
As you are on SiyahKernel right now, I doubt that the OTA update will work properly.
Maybe you wil have to flash the stock kernel again before it works fine ... or use Odin (or Mobile Odin app) to flash the latest firmware yourself.
Good luck !

Hi guyz. My phone showed up a OTA. It's only 21,99 MB. I'm running Alliancerom 6.1 XWLS8. On the attachment there's no 21,99 MB written, but it is!
Question is: Can I install it On Alliancerom 6.1? Will it brick my phone?

that would be the update to LSD reckon it to be ok to install but would recomend downloading and installing alliance 7.1 LSD based that will stop the update. As its an install of an updated rom a wipe is not completely unnecessary but still recommended.
Don't forget the golden rule......backup backup backup

Flash stock with Odin or flash a kernel for recovery and flash rom/gapps from there. Make sure you download the right file for you're model of phone.

This is an European phone i bought from gumtree..
But the problem with it is, its firmware isn't up to date.
Now i am in uk and saw the latest rom on htc's website..
I actually want to ask if i can install that rom without any hassle or do i have to find the rom which matches the baseband ?

Baseband is radio. It is in firmware upgrade packages. As long as your device in factory stock sense rom you can perform upgrade process.

Successful ROOT sm-n915p

Odin flash modded twrp "twrp-3.0-915P_915R4" and then new beta "BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524" ... both can be found using simple xda search. NO CUSTOM KERNEL REQUIRED. IT WILL BOOTLOOP SEVERAL TIMES, DO NOT INTERRUPT JUST LET IT LOOP, IT WILL STOP.
Marshmallow root
sorry

So will this work on this version?
II am gettting random reboots after rooting. Not sure what is going one. I'm thinking the root is not stable for some reason. Is there anybody else getting random reboots that the phone will not recover from? I'm having to flash a new image WITH a PIT file to get it to boot again.
works so far. i got the files here: http://idoneapps.com/forum/index.php?topic=274.0
