So basically i have a BRAND NEW vibrant and i think i softbricked it. (i can still boot into STOCK recovery)
i was trying to flash voodoo lag fix using androidspins instructions but failed i guess... NOW my phone is somehow COMPLETELY stock... and it wont boot past the vibrant screen!
i REALLY need this to work, and im a super newb, so adb terms and things wont really make sense to me unless written step by step lol
PLEASE HELP ME! im on a mac mini running leopard 10.5.8 so i cant use odin or w/e its called.
oh ya and i have a nexus one so if it can help in any way in fixing this problem that may help too?
How long did you wait for it to boot? It can take a few mins. You should be able to fix this alot quicker by searching thru the voodoo thread. Also having a mac shouldn't prevent you from using odin

I'm a newb I have no idea what that means. Sorry that's why I need help. Any step by step instructions anyone can give???
Launch odin select the corresponding files then plug phone in to computer and put in download mode. When usb indicator on the top of odin lights up your good to go. To get into download mode I remove the sim card, sd card and the battery. I put the battery back in hold the vol up and down and then plug the usb in.
Search for the stock rom thread to get the odin files. There should be directions in there and in the bible thread as well.
Also if you haven't already you should install the android sdk for mac. Just google it
You have a vibrant its 99% unbrickable. Odin is your first problem. Recovery mode. Clear cache. Wipe user data. Reboot phone. Just a question why the hell are ppl still using Odin... makes me laugh.. I'm currently runny de-odexed 1.2ghz .. 2530 quadrant score my vibrant is so sexy I want to hump it. .. LOL

Cool story, bro. My 1.2ghz is sitting at 2743 quadrant guess I'm cooler than you. (Pst Quadrant dont mean anything).
ANYWAY back on topic, Since your on a mac you would need to run ODIN over parallels unless there is a mac version that I'm unaware of. Google parallels for mac, it allows you to run windows based programs on a mac. Then look at the ODIN threads in the bible stickied in this forum. Follow the instructions carefully and you'll be fine.
LOL.. hope it works out.. hate to see an awesome phone become a paper weight.
Gotta say xda is awesome

I'm guessing he tried to flash voodoo thru the update.zip method so unless he can push the stock update or what have you. Using recovery will only keep trying to re-install voodoo I'm guessing. So the best way to fix it is odin.

Wow, a LOT of misinformation here
First of all, you CANNOT run ODIN on Mac.

You CANNOT use ODIN via Parallels on Mac. You can install it and run it, but it will NOT recognize your Vibrant in Download mode which is necessary. I am not guessing, I know for a fact- I tried intensely for 3 days before learning that it's just not possible. And Parallels is a program that simulates a Windows machine on your Mac.
You COULD use ODIN on your Mac only if you run Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp. It's not a super-easy process if you aren't tech savvy, you also need to purchase (or otherwise obtain) a full version of Windows, so you're better off finding a real Windows computer. In case you're curious, additional info on Boot Camp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

This poster = IDIOT. Wow, you're Quadrant score is so useful to know, very helpful for this guy, and I'm sure there are many who read your contribution and had to sit down in AWE to take in just how cool you and your Quadrant score are. Laughing because of ODIN? Well, Slick, it's gonna be necessary for this guy (and myself) to save our phones. Recovery> wipe data> wipe cache WILL NOT WORK at this point. Yes, the Vibrant is close to unbrickable- but not completely immune. Besides, this guy's Vibrant is soft-bricked, as is mine. Yes, it can happen, and yes, you need ODIN via true windows to fix. Go away and run some Quadrant tests.
Once you get in front of a Windows machine, here is a great step-by-step on how to fix your phone via ODIN http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 I haven't done it yet, will be later today once I get in front of WIndows.
Android SDK and ADB will not help you at this point either, although they're great to learn for future Android fun.
Good luck- I know first hand how frustrating this is.
ok so is there ANY other way i can get this vibrant to boot? via adb or ANYTHING???
Easy way ....find a friend with windows
sorry about odin not working with a mac. Thought android sdk might load some usb drivers for you...saw that somewhere I think. However, according to lp1527 seems you will need windows or linux. Maybe you could try bootcamp with ubuntu since thats free.
Going out on limb but maybe using adb to remove the update.zip and replacing it with the stock update.zip and flashing that through recovery might work? or try to push the voodoo uninstall .txt first and see if does anything.

I had this same exact problem with mine. Use Odin (refer to Bible section if needed). Odin is very easy to use. Here's what you do:
1. Open Odin v.1.3
2. Download stock Odin stock firmware. This link is for the JI2 leaked release. if you want original JFD then do a search. This link has both the .tar ROM and 512 Pit file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780935
3. In Odin click on PIT button and open 512 pit file.
4. With your phone powered off and unplugged from pc, hold in both volume keys and then plug in the usb cord (whioch is already connected to your pc). After a few seconds your phone is in download mode (bright yellow on screen)
5. Check to make sure Odin has detected your phone by verify it has populated the port setting (towards the top in yellow) refer to Odin link in Bible page if unsure
6. Click on PDA and open the .tar ROM file
7. Click start
8. Sit back and wait to Odin to finish. It will reboot your phone automatically for you.

hello i was trying to follow the noob guide posted in the stickies.
i backed up everything using titanium
i was in the rom manager and when i go to click reboot into recovery the phone has been stuck on the first screen of reboot Vibrant Samnsung. i cant get through it took the battery out and tried rebooting again normally wont go through neither will it do anything if i pressed the volume up and down keys while powering on. any ideas ??
actually there is an update....i tried rebooting with holding down volume keys and the screen tries to go past the initial screen but comes back again to vibrant samsung screen. so it goes away for a second or two like its about to load the next screen and then back to the initial screen....
any help or guidance or pointers?? phone is still stuck tried alot of different things in the last hour or so....anything would be greatly appreciated....
thanks
Take the battery off, then a sec or two back in. Now attach the USB cable to your mob but not the PC and while holding the volume keys insert the other end of the USB to your PC and let me know how that works.

before you use ODIN to go back to stock, where you were and not wanting to be, check your PM from the one you sent me earlier.
Exactly what the guys said. If your PC recognized the device then just install Odin and go back to stock. If not, then download the drivers' file in the Noob thread.

will i lose all my app and contacts and stuff ?
Yes you will lose your apps, that's why you have to back them up using an app called titanium backup. Then after you flash your new rom you can restore all of them.
Other than the apps you usually don't lose anything but better safe than sorry, so copy past your vids, pics and whatever you need on your external SD or on your PC before flashing.

phone is finally back and up and running but i tried again to reboot it from CWR and it got stuck again so i managed to get it back in. so now my options are using odin and taking it back to stock and then re rooting flashing and everything again. and the second problem is i cant move the file of trigger rom from pc memory to phone memory i dont know why. so have to figure that out as well.

I can get into recovery using the 3 button, its not the clockwork recovery though, also not sure how to apply any other kernel as I can't access the internal SD memory.

Not sure how to do it, but I'll do some reading and give it a shot.
You seem kind of new so just asking this in case, you aren't using a galaxy s 4g are you?
If you are using the vibrant, then disregard the first line of this post.
Try some of these things:
Right drivers installed?
Try another version of odin.
Make sure you are using the usb cable that came with the phone.
I've always heard using a usb 2.0 port is recommended.
Sometimes I've found using a different computer seems to solve the problem. (preferably 32bit)
Good luck.

I am using a vibrant, and yes I am not using the cable that came with the phone, I lost that one using another over the counter cable. I have tried a Win XP and Windows 7.0 PC. One thing I have noticed is that on my PC I always get a notification that "your device can work faster if connected to a usb2.0 port" I get that message to all the ports on my laptop. Maybe its the cable.... not sure if a cable can make it work usb1.1 when the port maybe really usb2.0.
thanks

Do you have adb installed and setup? If not, find a tutorial and get it working.
Once you have adb working, this should work:
1. Boot phone into recovery with 3 buttons
2. Select reinstall packages. (Yes, it will fail, but this step is necessary for some reason)
3. From your PC, execute "adb push update.zip /sdcard" (This is assuming you have the update.zip from Clockwork Recovery)
4. Select reinstall packages again, phone will reboot, select reinstall packages again

My bad man, I forgot to add that It flashes the stock 2.2 froyo. I just cant use my internal sd card. So all i can do is use wifi, service features, but cannot download apps and other stuff like that. The build number: Froyo.UVJK2 is the one it works almost as usual.
So far I have tried to format the sd card and even restore factory reset but nothing has worked.

I'm trying to return to stock on my Verizon Note 2. I'm currently on AOKP 4.2.2 and have TWRP. I tried to use the Odin method shown by Adam but my phone is not being seen via USB. I've tried to uninstall all drivers and reinstall. Tried again by using Kies as suggested by many.
Can I return to stock just by using TWRP? Are there steps or a walk through on how to do this? Links? I'm thinking I could go into TWRP, wipe the cache, delvik cache, and then factory reset. Then install, "flash" a update.zip and return to stock. Would this work or get stuck?
Also, not sure where to get the update.zip I'd need. I have the OTA stock downloaded from Adam tutorial...not the "alternate" but it's only one file. Would I just zip that, rename to update.zip and try to flash?
Please help!! Again I'm unable to do this through usb plug in so I really need another route.
Thank you in advance for any help!

I read through that one too. Tried all of that. ODIN will not work. My phone is not being detected through USB. Again i've tried all the reinstalls of the drivers etc.... Tried different original cords. nothing.
I need a way to return to stock through my device. Maybe load to the external sd and flash. Can this be done?
Not sure what file to flash though.
If odin isn't seeing your phone then something isnt installed properly. Probably drivers. Im not too sure about it because the only time I used odin was when I first rooted and I haven't touched it since.
The only option I have heard of for doing it from the phone is mobile odin. I dont know much about it, never tried it. Here's the link for it
This is the free lite version that requires more work on your part

Are u sure usb debugging is on?, or try going back to a tw rom before using odin, i also read that kies has to be removed from comuter, and phone before trying this, i had problem originally, manually installed drivers, and went to device manager and checked operation, you also have to be in odin mode on phone( power, home, down at same time, as that way it is in download mode.

Tried all of this as well. I installed kies and tried that route as some were saying the drivers may work through that method. They didn't so I tried uninstalling. I was in DL "odin" mode when trying to run odin also.
Just curious, why are you trying to go back to stock?

My phone was a trade off for a iPhone 5.. Best move ever but the last owner had somewhat messed up the phone modding it. I did a full wipe and the previous owner had never done any backups. I wanted to start fresh. All that being said I wanted to start back fresh at stock and then do any modding that I preferred from a new state.
I just flashed MeanBean after reading back through the posts to my question. I realized I had not tried using odin while on a TW based ROM.
I'll see if this helps.

I too am having issues with my Note II not being recognized by Odin on my PC. I know my drivers are installed and I have a good connection with my USB cable/port since when I plug in my phone when powered on, I can see the phone and card just fine. However, when going into Download mode and running Odin 3.07, Odin isn't seeing my phone.
I discovered this while looking into another situation from another thread. While I'm not currently attempting to return to stock and aren't overly concerned about returning to stock since I could probably do it with Mobile Odin if push comes to shove. I am concerned, however, that if I'm unable to use MO and my phone isn't being recognized by Odin from my PC then I might be up the proverbial creek with a paddle.

Mobile Odin Pro did the trick. It incorporated root saver so I didn't loose root when I returned to stock. Great advice!! Now I can start fresh and not have to worry about the mess I had from the trade.
Thanks again!

Glad it worked. And as an added bonus now I know if I do ever have problems and dont feel like spending the time to figure it out, I can just use mobile odin.
