Getting rid of phone process - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I don't use this phone for data and only for wifi how do I get rid of the android phone process? I'm running cyanogenmod 7.1

I would just put it in airplane mode and use Titanium Backup to freeze any phone related process.

I have a script that you can use to turn off the radios. Think of it as turning your phone into an iPod. I can send it to you if you are interested.
I should add that I did not write the script. It was another xda member but I do not remember his name.

Help please with data connection issues

I have a rooted vibrant running stock Tom with the j16 update and my 3g works intermittently at best. Is there any fix I can do myself?? Its understandable if I were in a cave but I'm getting full bars and my signal strength is -89 dbm 12 Asus. Please please anyone. I'm almost to the point where I'm about to call T-Mobile and see if they can switch me out a different phone. I hate the idea of paying for the web and nit being able to use it. BTW, if I pull my battery off and restart the data connection will work for about 10 mibs

I'm interested to see the answer/suggestions as well, I've been having the same issue.
It will work then not, a restart or going into flight mode and back will get it working for awhile. It does it over Wi-Fi too..(Sound familiar?)........... It's done it stock, rooted with OCLF, with ji6 and now even with Bionix 1.9
Yeah I mean my wifi works all the time but now even when I do the airplane mode it doesn't bring back my 3g data connection. Its driving me bat **** tho. How about u?

How good it the 3G coverage in your area?
Try a market app called Map Viewer. At home I'm out of 3G coverage.
OK I will try to download it and let you know

Do a factory data reset.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
well I found out from the map that my 3g coverage system work is supposedly non existence. Go figure. So I'm basically getting snippets of it. If I do a factory reset I will lose all my info right? And when you say reset do u mean using Odin and flashing stock 2.1?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Do it from the phone settings, privacy. Yes, u will loose all yr apps, but save them using appsaver from android market first. Your new rom update will still be there. Hope this helps. Thats what I did to correct my 3g issue, just like what you described.

thank u I will try that

just throwing this idea out there. tmobile could be doing tower work in your area. i experienced this for awhile where data was just iffy and wasnt very reliable. this may happen on and off for a few days.

4g strangeness

So I've has this ongoing issue and it never really bugged me until today, and want to see if anyone has any ideas. Sometimes (more often then not) I am unable to activate 4g on my photon. It simply refuses to start the radio whether its done via widget on home screen or settings. The 4g icon will flash for a half second then goes away. The only way to fix is to either kill all tasks (including system tasks using systempanel) or a phone shut down and reboot. Now, I understand it might be an app interfering with it, but I don't know what it would be. I am rooted stock, and i do have roam control, although this did happen to me before I got roam control I believe.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you tether with it? I get the same thing whenever I tether with 4g. Usually a reboot also does the trick for me too.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I do Tether but not regularly. Its not because wifi tether is just installed at all is it?
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I have the exact same 4g radio issue. I do have wifi tether installed but rarely use it. Happens to me every few days and rebooting is the only thing that had worked for me. I've tried clearing out ram but I usually end up having to reboot to fix it. Very annoying!
{edit} I'm on stock 198_6 rooted.

Can I turn my i717 into STRICTLY a tablet?

How would you suggest going about this?
I'd like to render the phone portion of my i717 COMPLETELY inoperable. That is...I don't even want to be able to make "emergency calls only."

Delete or freeze the dialer. The only roms you can flash will have phone capabilities since this is a phone afterall haha.

Yeah...that's a good point I suppose. I wonder if deleting the dialer would have any other ill-effects...only one way to find out!
Id freeze it first with tibu then see if it causes issues

That would only work if they didnt want any type of connectivity like internet etc

In airplane mode you can use wifi. Keep a deactivated sim card in the slot so you don't get pesky notifications.

Hmm...deactivated SIM...not a bad idea.
IIRC, some ROMs don't let you turn on Bluetooth (WiFi too?) in airplane mode.
Well, I can't speak for every rom, but every rom I've used allowed wifi and bt when in airplane mode.

Heres the most technical solution I have for it haha. Decompile the framework-res.apk. look in the values folder and find bools.xml. open that up in notepad++ and change the voice capable value from true to false. Then recompile & replace the apk. That should eliminate any voice functions. On the nexus 7 3g you would do that to enable to natibe dialer for voip/SIP functionality

GPS battery drain issue and resolution!!!!

This may have been posted already but I figured out how to stop my GPS from toggling itself on. If I turned off my GPS it would turn itself on and say searching for GPS, or turn itself on when I would be on a call or be in an area with no signal. Even after rooting, installing twrp and flashing Clean Rom 1.1 (THANKS SCOTT) it was still there. Looks like it was the carrier IQ causing the issue. I've done these three steps and haven't seen it since. Step 1: Settings>Location access> check 'Wi-Fi & Mobile network location' then uncheck 'GPS Satellite'. Step 2: On your device go to Settings>apps>runnings>Android System> IQServices> Stop. Step 3: Download 'Disable Services' app, open the app and go to android system the uncheck IQServices. I read that if you reboot your phone it could come back on and you'd just have to do the same steps to turn it back off. Also I heard that AT&T can turn it back on but at least you know how to shut it off. Let me know if this helps
Thought I'd update here and state that this does not affect VZN. This is the only bloatware they outed out of ?

from all the threads I've read it seems to just be AT&T
Actually T-Mobile has it too but gives you an option on initial setup. And of course you can still opt out after the fact.

On the Clean rom Scott set it up so that it does the google initial setup and it ask you the Wifi and GPS question but on the unrooted AT&T version I don't remember it giving me that option. I don't even think they want you to know about CarrierIQ. Thing that sucks is it drains your battery

anyway to get to this with Titanium Backup and freeze/unistall?
I haven't personally tried that and not currently using Titanium Backup so I wouldn't know honestly.

Try disabling 'remotely locate this device' in android device manager..
It helps preserve battery too..

(Q) wifi automatically turns on?[solved]

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like I can't keep my wifi off.
Every time I turn wifi off it gets turned back on by itself.
I'm sure I'm just being a complete noob and missing something.
Stock unrooted latest update.
Was ok before update.
Any help appreciated.

Sounds like Sprints "Connection Optimizer" here, I think there's a way to disable it, but I just deleted the APK from the system folder, are you rooted?

Settings>connections>more networks> mobile networks> connections optimizer then uncheck the box.

Awesome thank you folks. Knew it would be something simple.

After you uncheck it, if you're rooted, use TB to freeze or uninstall so it never comes back to haunt you. I've been freezing apps until I decide if they're fully safe to delete and that I'm sure I won't want them.
Not Sprint but note 3 having the same issue
My phone is not sprint. I'm using an international version of note 3. And having the same issue. Could you please help me with that?

Connections optimizer isn't onlyfor Sprint. Fix is probably the same, but might be named differently, but similarly.
