Is there anyway to use the webtop application or any sort of full linux on the phone instead of having to output on the hdmi?

As far as I know no there isn't, although I think it would be pretty cool.
Yes there is. I read an article where a man managed to run ubuntu and connect to it using a VNC viewer. Im not sure how but look around the forums. What u need to do is install ubuntu using the ubuntu install script available in the development forum and then install a VNC viewer from the market. Its been done b4. Its cumbersome and not much use, but it works.

So was the vnc viewer to connect to the x server or whatever I forget what the right terminology is im tired
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Exactly. VNC viewer is used to "remotely" connect to X server since the atrix display drivers are configured specifically for android and do not support X at all. Like i said, its a cumbersome system, but it works.
So im guessing that would require a network connection and it would have the typical lag when using vnc

I've been looking for awhile but I can't figure how I can connect my tablet to my ReadyNAS so I can stream.. DicePlayer seems to be the player I want, but howvdo I connect remotely?

Port forward 32400 to computer ip. Set static internal ip to computer and port forwarding on your router. When external point plex towards public ip. You can find your public ip by going to www.whatsmyip.org.

I simply use UPnPlay to browse the files on my ReadyNAS Duo, then I select Dice Player to play the file.
Flawless streaming B-)

That works too but I'd feather plex transcode my file instead of having to handpick or manually prepares file. Plex will do it all for me even out of home.

Just use standard web browser with desktop user agent. The video quality is very similar on both platform anyways .
Pulsar g2 had once moded the application but I think it's no longer available.

Sweet worked on the default browser
Would still like the tweak if anyone knows of 1.
Cheers

I was wondering if there is an app or some other way of accessing the movies etc on my PC at home when I'm not there using my tab? Say I'm at work using the wifi there is there some way of connecting to my shared folder on my home PC and streaming through the internet back to my galaxy tab?
All help greatly appreciated to relieve my boring breaks with a TV episode

Team viewer worked great on my nook color for controlling my PC from anywhere. Just had to set it up on both the PC and nook. Easy and free in the market.
Never tried it on the tab though.

It gave me total control of my PC.... Showed my screen almost like remote desktop. Freaked the kids out when I took control of the mouse from anywhere. lol
Edit: Just noticed you wanted to stream some TV shows. Don't know if that would be clunky or not.

Not sure if it would depend on the connection speed or more the capabilities of the app itself. I shall give it a try tonight. Much appreciated mate and looking forward to freaking out the wife haha

The only problem is using Teamviewer you would need to set a prefixed password and username on it as it generates random per session so would be best. Also it needs to be on, closing teamviewer on your PC means you cut off the communication. Also it doesn't require a high end internet as teamviewer by default drops the quality and turns off wallpaper's and such per connection to enhance speed to navigate vs graphics.

That's fine my PC is on 24/7 anyway so that wouldn't be a problem.. if it sacrifices graphics for speed do you think maybe its not gonna be suitable for what I need it for?

Think you can set a password to use all the time in options, but it's been awhile since using. So could be wrong, but never remember having a random password. But yes I do remember having to have the PC on, but believe I could still wake it.
Again, I've not used my nook color for some time with this. So give an old man a break if I'm wrong.

i use splashtop which basically works like windows remote desktop - you can see and interact with your home pc like you were in front of it - great for playing back videos as well

Server runs on Linux, Mac or PC. I have a Linux server running so I can't tell you how good the Windows port is.
I have never used it for an outward facing connection though it is designed to work that way. I have it running on my old Dinc, Kindle Fire and the G-Tab. Video streaming works very well.

In my opinon it is all about the bandwidth. Some (HD) Movies need up to several megabit per second...
A solution is to use a VPN connection to the home network and a UPnP-AV server/client.
I use Twonky and BubbleUPnP, but only in my LAN. With a VPN and sufficient bandwith on the connection this would do the job over the internet, too.
Scanflex
With a little planning you could upload the video files that you want to be able to access to Dropbox, Minus or whatever Google offers that is similar. Then all you would have to do is access the files from your tab. If you have enough bandwidth for video, it should work great.
Check it out and let us know if my idea works for your needs.

Never thought about cloud.. like u say though forward planning would be needed and I'd have to upload everything that I'd want to watch each time before I go anywhere. Nice idea though

I have had cerberus installed on my PC for a long time, it allows you to use your PC as an FTP server.
This way you can have access to your chosen files anywhere with the internet. On your mobile most file explorers have a FTP option to move files to or from the PC.
Its handy to have access to all your music, or maybe use it the other way to backup your photos ect when away from home for a extended period.
you could also stream over FTP if your file explorer allows you to map the FTP server as a local drive

I bought a NSA (Zyxel NSA310) and works fine with Windows etc, but how would I go about mounting the NSA drive using Android,
-NOTE- I will not root the device
Was wondering if someone can provide me a detailed guide or something, thanks.
Bump
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Don't know how to mount it, but you can use an FTP client for the files and a DLNA player for the media streaming
What would be the best ftp client and streaming would I need the ip or can it find the drive on the network
Sent from my GT-I9300
all comes down to preference. need an ip for the ftp, and it will find the dlna server automatically
Using mediahouse works a treat thanks man
