OTA update - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I never accept OTA updates since I always root my phones. However, I find it interesting that my phone never alerted me that an OTA update was available for our phones. I've had my phone since the first day of it's release, and my phone has only been rooted for 5 days now. When did the OTA update come out? Like I said, I have no intentions of accepting the update, just curious as to why my phone never alerted me that it was available.

Under settings>update you may have "check for scheduled updates" unticked. I always check it after a flash to make sure its unticked

Haven't gotten a ota notice yet. Just to make sure it will say 1.5 right? I'm on 1.13.65 or something.
What do I do about Google wallet if I'm gonna root? Should I uninstall it? Can't clear settings bc it still says device not supported.

Hey guys I need a little help/advice...
I have never rooted before but I am considering rooting this phone via the HTCDev. If I accept the OTA update will it kill my ability to do the "soft root"?
Also if I root it via the method above can I install MeanRom? I am looking for a simple (factory like) rom taht has some tweaks to save battery and fix little minor issues. I am not looking for a mega fast overclock mod. I love the battery indicator on mean rom and the quite shutter etc..
Any suggestions would be appreciated for the noob!

Sure u probably went elsewhere for suggestions since, but u can accept the ota and still unlock thru HTC dev. The new ota hboot prevents the S-OFF exploit via lazypanda is all.
Think I remember hearing that we will pretty much always be able to unlock thru htcdev no matter the ota. S-OFF isn't necessary to flash roms, root, mod, flash kernels or any of that. Just needed for radios and I actually think it isn't needed for splash screens anymore. Not sure if the new hboot restricts access more than the old one or not.
Probably just wasting my breath, but good luck. Hope it goes or went well for u.

You can't flash kernels or splash screens if you are HTC dev unlocked on the latest ota hboot. You should be able to install Mean Rom without a problem.

How do I root my HTC EVO 4G LTE with android 4.0.3 & firmware 1.22.651.3 version

PLEASE HELP ME!! I have the EVO LTE I rooted it on day 1 May 24 HOWEVER our Google wallet app has not been working so we got our Android 4.0.3 update. NOW I did the 1 click UN-INSTALL root then updated my phone from android 4.0 ICS to the android 4.0.3 now I tried RE-ROOTING the phone but it is NOT letting me. It does the reboot and everything but the root is UNSUCCESSFUL. I am extracting the correct HTC_EVO_4G_LTE root file and everything. Is there a DIFFERENT root file and link now because of this android 4.0.3 software & 1.22.651.3 firmware upgrade??
Did you take the OTA or did you use the modified firmware and software?

What modified firmware and software?? I did the OTA update that came 2 my phone. I want my root back
I recently tried rooting the phone with the new OTA, it's just going to fail since the HBoot updated. I also tried to do the RUU to go back and that failed as well. We just have to wait now.
You never accept an OTA while rooted or if you ever plan on rooting. Those are just the facts.
You have to wait until the developers find a fix now.

You are not completely out of luck. You can still unlock your bootloader via htcdev, and root. With the new bootloader you won't be able to flash radios, splash screens, or kernels through the recovery. I think its possible to flash kernels with extra steps like what was involved with hboot 1.5 on the Evo 3D.

You never accept an update If you are rooted or ever plan to root.
You cannot gain s-off with the newest update, but can still do HTC dev

Radios and splash screens.. oh well. Not a big deal.
And kernels.. well, my views on kernels aren't popular so I will keep them to myself.
I really dont care to have S-OFF. I just want root access for tethering. I had the Old Evo 4G and I spent hours and days flashing roms and it was addictive! I just dont want to teak this LTE. To me ICS is working fine and I dont want to be hooked again of flashing, Nand backups and such.
I just want a safe way to re gain root, for Tethering. again I dont care about Bootloader or S-OFF.
Any input will be appreciated.
I made a topic on why you root and it got closed.. same reasoning I'm hearing about is why I wanted people to fully be aware this isn't the evo og and rooting could be bad this time

Question guys, you can use HTC Dev for the Evo but you won't get S-OFF, what does that mean.
Can I still flash Radios, Modems, and can I tweak with msl reader like the old EVO.
Also has anyone found a root method post Google Wallet Update from July 11th. I decided to update because I was not rooted yet, but now I want to root.
Aw man, I'm a new member at xda, just got on the forums when I got my EVO LTE. I've been trying to lurk and read up but unfortunately never came across somebody saying I shouldn't accept OTAs... I was gonna wait until cm9 or aokp got a bit more stable to root and flash. What have I lost the ability to do by accepting this update?
Edit: nevermind, looks like I'll have to wait until root methods are updated, and possibly wait for another s-off exploit if if comes. Can't flash radios or kernels... Damn...

I'd imagine that it won't be long before someone comes out with an updated root method. Be patient, read and ask questions in the meantime.
If you are S-ON and rooted then you update with the new OTA can you still root the phone again?
I was rooted only and accepted the update. No longer have root access. I saved w voodoo root keeper, but it couldn't restore root after update. Figured that would happen just wanted to try it.
Also after the update, my clock speed only throttles down to 1ghz. Anyone else noticing this? Talk about a battery killer!

Here man....it's a super quick process. Just copied and pasted from another thread....
I took the OTA and I'm rooted again.... It's not even that difficult.
I wanted google wallet and I wanted it bad! So I ran thru the hastle of hacking Google wallet so I could get into settings and clear it. Then HTC re-locked my phone. Ran the RUU, then accepted the OTA.
After you've updated...
Run the HTC unlock. Instructions at HTCdev website.
Then flash TWRP (I used adb fastboot method):
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98
Once that's installed you can flash supersu via this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1538053
Find: CWM installable ZIP in the OPs sig block (it works fine with TWRP on 1.22 software)
From there I just installed busybox (by Stepen) via the market. Grabbed Titanium Backup, and here I am. Rooted phone with 1.22 stock ROM.
Not all of the old mods work anymore though. My favorite, which was the battery mods, don't work. They don't even come close to working, so make sure you nandroid backup before you start tinkering..

I received similar advice from a forum moderator, and as soon as I have time and the ability to singularly focus on the process, I will give this a try.
However, I think a lot of us want the one-step method for rooting the LTE with the new OTA installed. For those of us new to the process and negative results, we chalked this up as one of the infamous "lessons learned."
Thanks!

If you accepted the ota update, then you can still unlock through HTC dev and still flash roms. But with the update, cannot obtain s-off.

By the way I'm on the new OTA and I heard conflicting sides. Some say you can install Roms by flashing through your computer even though you're not rooted (but have done the HTC dev unlock), some say you can't. HTc DEV unlock = root for all practical purposes. You just slap on Twrp and flash a rooted ROM.
However, since you accepted the OTA you are now severly limited even with an unlocked bootloader. See the first part of my post.
I actually wasn't rooted or unlocked when i took the ota. I was happy with the speed of the new evo so i didn't think i would need to overclock it like every other device i owned thus no need to root. I took the ota cuz i had major issues with my wifi and that's a huge deal to me since 3g blows so bad in my area that my browser times out..... long story. Sorry. Now i just want to customize. So sorry if this is a repetitive question, but can i use adb shell to flash a rom? If so, does anybody have a step by step? I've always just used clockwork mod in the past so i am new to adb.
Recap:
have the OTA
not rooted
HTC DEV unlocked.

Sounds like regawmod, you need to reboot manually as aoo as it says rebooting. It would probably be easier to unlock manually.a lot of people seem to have trouble. It will probably be updated soon but its been a problem for the last two updates.

bluetooth dead?

I can not see any Bluetooth devices. Any one else have this issue? I tried multiple sense and AOSP ROMs and none of them are able to detect any Bluetooth devices. Is there a fix for this?

Mine was also a 1.12 hboot... And as soon I got the new one I rooted it and got s-off using dirty racoon, now if you get it replaced it's easier now to get s-off using moonshine...

It's been almost a year since the Evo LTE. I have dealt without the bluetooth. I don't really use it but it would be nice when i'm the car. If 4.3 fixes it it would be great if not i'm just gonna wait and see what new phone is out. HTC needs to stop this bull**** and trying to be like crapple, no removable battery and no sd-card bullshiet. I hope Sprint gets a Sony phone.
It's not always HTC's fault, some people have to take responsibility for hacking their phone and read more and not run and get a replacement at the first sign of trouble. I'm not saying it isn't a hardware problem, but some people don't know anything about knowing to flash radios, correct order of steps to take, correct way to install a rom or kernel and try to just forge their own path which isn't goin to work.
I'm posting cause Ink in the viper thread everyone noticed u were misinformed and in case u don't check back in there for some reason. Update ur radios, and do it in the correct order. It was a big deal when the update came out.

Yes...... But it needs to be done correct. I'm not totally sure but I think u have to update firmware in order. Meaning if u didn't do the firmware update before the newest than u need to do that first. Go into settings> about software information> more. Look at ur baseband version and than start by updating to the firmware after that one. Also u need to be s-off, and these are not flashed in recovery. U put the zip on the root of the sd card and bootup into the bootloader.
If u got this phone on its launch and rooted and s-off'd a while ago but never did a firmware update like this or took an OTA, you might be on the this phones first firmware.
Then there is the deal with the touch panel part of it. (TP img) only the newest firmware presented a problem. U must be on a newer twrp and must be on a rom that came from the lady update or your touches won't be detected. Do everything correct and the screen becomes more responsive. Check out that thread and orders for everything.

But remember to make sure ur on the firmware from before, before flashing the newest. If this newest firmware still doesn't fix the problem, than its probably a hardware issue.
