Revert back to Stock ICS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
As the ICS is now available in India I wanted to know if I could install the stock ICS for my S29100 using KIES..
I already had flashed a custom ICS but wanted to install the stock ICS so I do not have any warranty issue also
will is it really safe to use triangle away, I already read about it in this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
but is it really safe?

Yes, you should be safe if you have read it properly and understood what to do. However make a backup all the same.

yes u can go back to any stock rom of any country

I confirm that it is safe, I already use before. But you can flash stock ROM via Odin, this way is faster than Kies.

[Q] When we flash to official ROM does our Kernel flash to official too?

Hi Guys,
Recently I rooted and flashed with the custom Kernel on my SGS II. But now decided to go back to the official ROM.
So my question is, when I flash it with official ROM (through ODIN). Will the custom Kernel be replaced by the official Kernel that came with the official ROM?
Thank you in advance to the kind soul that replied.
Yes.

Yes, if you needs custom kernel again then you have to flash it separately via Odin again.

If you don't have jig, I suggest to flash to ics first, use triangleaway and then flash back to stock with mobile odin

No official ics releases yet. They were just suggesting a round about way of getting rid of the triangle by flashing a leaked version of ics then using an app to remove the triangle then use something like CWM or mobile Odin to flash back to a GB Rom.
Like I said long winded process.
Just flash an official firmware. Then flash cfroot kernel for that version of firmware. Then if you want to get rid of the triangle use a USB jig available for a few dollars off eBay.

STOCK ICS and Back to GINGERBREAD??

Is there a way for me to install leaked ICS on my non rooted at&t note, then if I don't like it, go back to gingerbread without rooting or problems?? Thanks for any help! I can't take not having ICS anymore!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
The leaks both have odin built in and don't require that you be rooted to use. Just download double click and enjoy.
There's a new more complete leak coming soon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654293
I understand that I don't need to be rooted. My question is...IF I would like to go back to Gingerbread from a leak without rooting, could I? That way I could get the OTA?

Wait for the new leak above. You can flash it with odin via your pc. If you don't like it (you will) you can flash back to stock also via odin. Its 100% easier just to root though. When the OTA comes out it will posted here in a matter of minutes for everyone to flash and enjoy.

Without root access you can't back up your apps and your phone.
But you can always flash the stock gingerbread with odin and raise your flash counter.
Thanks for all the advice! I have never used Odin before. I'm used to just dropping a ROM on the card and flashing or just plugging into my computer for something I downloaded. This is my first Samsung Galaxy device. Anything I should know before hand? My previous device was a Droid X.

You mean if the OTA released by AT&T.. I need to flash that with ODIN again?
If I go back to stock Gingerbread via ODIN.. then I can update OTA not necessarily using ODIN again.. right?
sorry for my dumb question..

Right. If you odin back to stock gingerbread you can wait for the OTA update. Whenever that may come. OR you can flash the update via odin when it comes out. Whenever it comes out officially you can use the method of your choice.

This is an extremely noob question probably but I need to ask. Could somebody please explain to me how to Odin to ICS and how to get back to Gingerbread using Odin? Sorry for the dumb question but again I need to know before I do this. Never used it before.

if you dont like, odin back to gingerbread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
I recommened you root, its easy
then you can simply flash ICS. if no likee, use your backup from Nandroid, which will save all your files , texts, programs, call logs, etc(when you odin to stock you'll have a brand new like rom,no data)

Must I revert to stock?

Quick question, do I have to revert to stock everything and upgrade to official ICS in order to flash future official ICS ROMs?????

Only if you want to get it thru Kies
there is a .tar file in the main Official ICS thread that is used with Odin
Im not sure if I'm being misunderstood, I'm wondering if its necessary for me to upgrade to official ICS in order to flash future ICS ROMs?

I get what you are asking, ignore the last guys comment. Yes, to upgrade official firmware you have to be on official firmware unless someone makes a one click odin for people to install. If there are anymore upgrades from AT&T you will have to be on stock Gingerbread or Stock ICS to do the official upgrade.

I'm running it and flashed it thru Odin
And I wasn't on official firmware
Kies is another option.
Read up before you bash
The majority is flashing thru Odin and rooting thru Odin as well

Not true. I was on the CM 9.1 rom from hotwire, connected to kies and ran the update with no issue.

I don't believe so, no. When you flash a custom ROM (whether ICS or otherwise) you should do a full wipe anyway, so being on official ICS is irrelevant.
And the developers comment out or remove the signature checks for their roms so you can upgrade from any rom but samsung roms do a signature check and abort if stock rom and modem are missing.
Thank you very much guys.

I used Kies on my PC whilst in Download mode twice yesterday to put the official update on my phone.
I had FJ's UCLF5 / IMM76D B9 on my Note both times.
I used the process detailed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731654
XDA is no longer worth my time.

Getting back to basics

I rooted my phone and installed Pandroid and even tried CM9
But to be honest i was more happy with the stock rom that samsung provided for me from the start.
What would be the easies way to get back to where i started from?
Or are there any good stable roms för the galaxy s3 i9300 out there where everything just works?

Try an ICS rom - Omega, or DragonICS. They are more similar to stock than the CyanogenMods.
Next time try search harder and ask in Q&A section.
Do whatever you think fit your need with the phone.
Flash original firmware using odin
Or you may try Omega rom, RGUI rom, Foxhound rom and Wanamlite rom. All great roms.

So do you wish to go back to full stock, or a Samsung based custom Rom?

How to get Official JB Update (when it's out)

Hello
I just wanted to ask a question about the official jb update from Samsung.
I'm currently running a custom Omega ROM, if I want to change to the official Samsung JB, when it comes out, how would I proceed best?
I tried to find out how to revert to Stock, so I could just do an OTA update, but I don't have an original Stock Firmware Nandroid Backup..
I live in Switzerland and had a Swisscom branded Phone, which was not locked.
What do you think?
**EDIT**
or the leaked JB test firmware
You can find your firmware at sammobile.com. Just flash it with odin.

If from OMEGA rom , do you want to go to a rom stock samsung , run before a nandroid backup and save the folder EFS , performs a wipe date , factory reset ,then after with ODIN flash rom stock samsung , if remains in boot-loop repeat a full wipe from the recovery ....
I would wipe phone and install JB as its a new OS not an update .

there's still something i don't get..
i do still have the ota option on omega.. is the firmware seperate, which would mean that i would be possible to be on omega rom and have a stock firmware, or do i also return to stock rom when flashing the firmware?

No, because Omega is a costum rom,it's based on a stock firmware and kernel but, it's a modded firmware so you must wipe everything and flash with Odin if you want to go back to a Samsung Stock firmware.
