[Q] Best Modem (Signal Strength) for Three UK Please - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies, but I couldn't find a Modem's thread like we had in S2 forums...I've just got my S3, all rooted & unlocked...Omega ROM being downloaded, however as I'm on Three UK and do tend to get poor signal generally - can someone please recommend the best Modem I can use with this ROM for SIGNAL STRENGTH as I'm not too bothered about data speeds etc!
Thanks in advance...Ash

Try DXLF3, many people around the world (including me) are reporting it working very well.

I'm using that modem myself and everything seems to be grand. I'm on three as well. Data speeds are also quite good!

Yes all around the world as posted .

Also wondering this, can those that have tried confirm that signal strength is better on three network using the above radio than three's stock one, which in my case is FL6 I think.
Again not worried about speeds, just signal strength, especially being able to get better signal in poorer areas?
Am I correct in assuming that different modems will/can ramp up the power more than others when in poor signal areas? Thats basically what I'm after.

Sorry to barge in on the thread. I still have i9100 on 3UK and not having much luck with NELP2, 3, 4 could anyone suggest a better option for 4.0.4.

NEDLI1 has been very good so far for me on S3 on 3uk in london. 6-7mbps down and 2-2.5mbps up in congested london. my s2 only made upto 5mbps with Nelp4/NELS1

[Q] can T959V useT959 modems?

my phone's data is so weak indoor, so i want to install a different modem. I noticed that t959v and t959 cannot share the same rom, so i'm wondering if it's ok to install a t959 modem to my t959v, KB5, for instance...
p.s. English is not my first language, so it's a little difficult for me to find the answer among huge namber of posts, pls help me on this
I doubt it.
anybody knows?
Well I remember a thread in the Development section not too long ago about a guy who used Gt- I9000 modems since he lived in Europe. My say in this? I say why not? You can always use Odin to save yourself
You won't be able to use the modem. The t959V uses different hardware radios for gps, signal, and wifi

Best modem?

Hi. I am a pretty new user and I wanted to ask which modem is the best for battery life and performance in Asia. Example zsjpg for sgs.

Varies mate, there is no "best". Generally I like to use a modem from a firmware that was released in my country. I'm on a modem thats been made specifically for 3 UK phones for example. In your case though I would just try each on until I found one I liked. I see a lot of people using ki3 & ki4 so you could start there

Hi there, can I ask which modem you find best for 3 uk? I'm on neki2 at the moment but I'm not the impressed. Other modems I've tried(ki3 and ki4) seem to struggle to switch to 2g(orange network)
neki2 seems to take forever to switch from 3g to h
I'm on checkrom v4
Thanks
Start with latest modem and work backwards .

Thanks I've tried a few ki3 worked well on voda but I've move to 3 now. This modem works great till it needs to switch to 2g then it does work well with the 3 network so I've used 3 own one. I was just interested to see if anyone had a better option a this one seems a bit slow
Thanks

[Q] Vodafone Australia

Hi guys,
I recently noticed that the Vodafone reception has been very, very bad. I'm talking 1 - 2 bars MAX and the rest of the time absolutely no reception, anywhere.
Is anyone having this problem? What could be the cause of this? I have a brand new SIM card as well - and on 2.3.7 MIUI ROM. Any help will be appreciated and thanked
Try flashing a different RADIO/MODEM package... Different ones are meant for different regions and yield varying results as far as reception and call quality are concerned. And there's nothing like the "best radio"... That's like asking what's the best religion. It's all about experimentation.
Try KJ1 from here. This is the best modem I've tried/used over the past 2 and a half months. I'm in Geelong and this gives me the best signal strength/coverage & data speeds. KI2 from Cellcom Israel from here was also good.
It could also be a Vodafone lack of coverage/capacity issue as well.
If you find neither of these improves the situation, do what Prassad suggests & try every modem you can get your hands on.

Will that affect the way my current NDT MIUI ROM operates? and do I just flash it through Odin or CWM?

Both vodafone and Telstra sell the T model i9100 galaxy which requires a T modem. Whenever I flash a new rom I reflash with a T modem to get decent reception back.

And funnily enough, the thread which has a link to the modem I suggest he flash has a first line that reads "I9100T Modem from Vodafone Australia"

3g signal - S2 vs Note

I have a question for you guys. My mate and I were sitting next to eachother comparing my S2 and his Note last night. We have the same provider obviously. While I had 1 to 0 lines of 3g signal, he had 4 out of 4. I'm running XWLPG with stock modem. Do you think that by changing modems I could improve my signal to be at "Note" level, or the two phones carry simply different hardware and the S2 will never catch as much signal as the Note does?
Thanks,
td
Try other modem, they have great influence on signal. There is a thread about it on forums. KH3 modem is recommended by many users. Good luck !

Look in the modem Thread its different where you live and which provider you have. Test all modems and look which is best for you
Galaxy S2`s are generally incapable of accurately reporting the signal strength (as you will read if you do a bit more Googling) so I wouldnt worry too much about comparing the two different machines.
SST
I know that I can't ask which modem is the best etc, but I have one question regarding which modems to flash. Are they somehow linked to a specific rom / kernel / android version? For example, are modems released in gb roms supposed to be flashed under ics roms?
Every modem can be flashed to your rom, thats no problem

[Q] Modem/Connectivity issue

Hello people,
For the past few months I'm having this issue which I find extremely [email protected]!!
Every few minutes, my phones just loses internet connectivity - the 3g signal appears to be normal during all the time, thing is, whenever I try to use any internet application - it just hangs. and then, after a minute or so, connectivity is back(again, for a few minutes).
I have tried flashing so many versions of modems - some improved it a little but most of them didn't help at all, or even made it worse.
Hopefully someone could help me with that as I'm that close to give up on this and buy a new phone.
Thanks in advanced.
Nir.
Which firmware are you running on your phone? What modem do you have right now and where do you live? Do you have problems with all apps that use internet-connection? Do the problems dissapear when you use wifi?
Just some information would be usefull

Yop.. forgot to mention a 'few' things...
Model: GT-I9100
Rom: RootBox V3.8
Kernel: 3.0.31-CM-g7ce58e6
Baseband: I9100DXLPB
Android version: 4.2.2
I live in Israel, bought the phone in Thailand.
I tried flashing all available Israeli modems(from various cell phone providers) - none helped.
Problem disappear when I move to WiFi - as 3g connectivity moves to background...
Thanks.
I assume you've read the Rootbox threads to see if other people experience signalproblems?
Did you compare the connectivity with other roms? Stock-based roms for example...

I've been hovering the internet for weeks in search for a solution..
That's not a RootBox issue in particular as I tried using various roms...

That seems quite weird.. The only thing I can come up with is 1) a hardware problem, or 2) you live in an area where the signal is crap
Hopefully someone else knows anything.. Good luck.

Neither of them thanks anyways.
Anyone else...?
If you've only tried flashing the modems bundled with stock roms from Israeli carriers, you haven't done nearly enough. There are literally dozens of modems available, you need to start flashing as many as you need to. This isn't going to fix itself magically.

I haven't flashed only Israeli modems but others as well. I've tried around 20 so far...
Question is, which direction should I choose? should I look for Thai modems or IL?
That depends. I know Israeli carriers sold (still sell ?) the I9100T, are you sure you don't have one of these ? If that's the case, I'd be trying modems bundled with roms released by the Australian & NZ carriers which sold the I9100T (I have one), and yes, the Thai ones as well.
If you do have an I9100, then keep trying any/every modem you can get your hands on. If it's not a carrier-side issue, this is really all you can try, unless you want to start messing around with RIL's as well. I've not found any difference in connectivity doing this personally (tho many people have) but if you get to the point of trying every single modem & you're sure it isn't a carrier issue, you might as well try. But I would leave this till last given many people find their connectivity messed up even worse by flashing an incompatible RIL.
