for those of you who are unaware, Samsung likes to put parental controls on their Camera. youll have limits on when youre allowed to open the camera, such as below 15% battery, during music, while youre in a call (where its bluetooth or not), and during media scanning. on top of these limitations, youll also be faced with a mandatory shutter and focus sound, whether your sound is muted or not.
on all of the previous Galaxy phones, weve been luckily enough to have developers mod the camera.apk to fix these broken implementations. Fr4gg0r on the Galaxy S, and pulser_g2 on the Galaxy S II. who will be the one to mod the Galaxy S III Camera.apk?
anyone up for the challenge?
edit:
ive updated the Camera.apk attached to an odexed version
Can you post the camera.apk here, so that we can try?
I have my SGS3 on preorder here in the Netherlands, so I have 3 weeks to go...

These might be deal breakers for me. I actually use the camera of my phone a lot and things like this are a giant annoyance.

Wonder if we can also discover some hidden gems like the HTC Sensation? They managed to churn 10mp shooter to 20mp. =O
Can some one give it a full manual mode so we can set f stop and shutter speeds including ISO manually.
I so want an app like this.

If support for the reported 120fps the hardware supports could be implemented, that would be legendary. I don't care what resolution it drops to really, but for me it would be extremely useful.
120fps, youd probably need a custom camera app for that, not a modded one
i know Fast Camera in the market can do some impressive stuff, even on SGS2

Just turn on vibrate or mute from the pulldown bar and you'll have no shutter sound.
I find it almost concerning that the pics form my S3 are only 1.5mb filesize, my S2 they were twice that and with hte old GB modded camera apk they were nearer 6mb
the pics like great but i cant help feeling that I am not geting as much detail as is capable?
Lot of good replies.. id like to See a 60fps at 720p which should be possible since the iphone 4s has it and we have the same sensor
I came from a Lumia 900 and while we're not gonna get into everything else that phone had wrong about it I will say that the camera was more than adequate. Now on my LGOG I have an orangey yellowish tint to all my pictures...and when I put the flash to auto the phone never seems to think it needs flash. Any tips for taking better pics on this thing? I tried smart shutter too and that hasn't done much for me.

Hey man, of course it gets grainier in low light environment!
Go outside in the sun and make a photo there. It will not be grainy.
As there is no flash or photo light, this behavior is totally normal. You will have to live with it.
Oops, forgot to tell that i also took a photo outside, which is sunny, and the photo is still not clear(grainy\blurry)..

here are some pictures taken with my nexus 4 (also an 8 mp camera)
Use normal mode instead of superior auto and setup the camera yourself and dont use hdr then see what the quality is like. You might notice that without using those options the camera uses the full 8MP.

Honestly, the camera on this thing is nowhere as good as I thought it would be...not a dealbreaker as I don't use a tablet to take pictures almost ever but still expected more.

If you notice that your leg is clear and the rest of the picture is grainy then it indicates that the camera focused on your leg, not the things in the background. Keep things close out of the picture so it can auto focus on what you want in the picture.

I just got the Note 2 a few weeks and so far it's my favorite phone I've ever owned. I love the big screen, I use the S pen all the time and the battery is tremendous.
One thing that I'm not quite fond of is the screen brightness, specially when using Netflix.
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this with Netflix but the brightness on the phone seems to be OK but as soon as I start playing something on Netflix it's really dim. I have the brightness turned all the way up and it still looks really dim.
The quality also isn't great either, it's like it's not playing in HD or something. I've tried connecting to 4G and Wi-Fi and it still doesn't always look so great.
Wondering if there anyone knows of a solution or a hack or something?
I watch a lot of Netflix on my phone and would love to solve this.
I am rooted and I'm using JellyBeans 21 ROM.
Thanks.
Try going back to stock ROM and check if the issue persists.
I noticed that beans rom has reduced brightness overall (cannot say for sure but that was what I felt comparing against stock)

Have you adjusted your quality levels on netflix.com yet? If your not worried about data or use wifi alot crank up quality settings on the site. Then reboot and fire flix back up. As the video buffers during play quality will slowly increase. Depending on your connection it should play pretty decent quality a minute or so into the video. And if you use mx player for your video files make sure you have mx brightness turned up. Im pretty sure mx settings are independent of system. Im also running 21 but I always use beans stock kernel. And even on the puter or xbox netflix Never truly hits HD.

kernels don't do it either... sorry i'm not trying to troll you or anything it's just not true. maybe you hit "auto-adjust screen tone" in settings? it's a samsung setting that basically reduces brightness.l
Do a search on XDA and download the app called "A Brighter Note" (if you are rooted). It enables you to brighten your screen about 10% more.

If you do just remember one thing.
The AMOLED screen in our phones gets burn in if your not careful. the brighter the screen the quicker the burn in, at least thats what ive been told.
I have not seen any burn in on my phone, but I know people who are always at max brightness and you can see their status bar even in full screen apps because its burnt in...

Yup. It over compensate for the low light by adjusting the iso higher therefore making some images and videos blurry.

Yeah, if you wanna run that boring and crippled OS. Just carry a compact digital camera if you are that desperate for better shots and video instead of lowering your phone standards.

I still think we are not going to see "great" night video/picture on any phone for a while yet. We could be two three years away from that imo.
The only way that will happen is if you get a big enough sensor that bulges out of the phone. Like in the case of Nokia builds.

You honestly can't see the difference in lg G2 and HTC one night video? The fps is so...slow it doesn't look natural at all.
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The f2.4 lens can only get so much light. The low light video was sweet in my one, but that's an f2 lens.
The g2 has decent video, but not being able to lock focus and exposure is a really downer. The continuous autofocus kills the videos
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk 2
Both video show a brightly lid night scene but blurry, probably the result of low shutter speed and wide open apertures. If there is some way for people to manually set the shutter speed and aperture or make it less aggressive while taking the video, I am sure everyone will be happy.
Trying lower the brightness setting while taking the of the video might help with higher shutter speed and better focus.
The video that shows the drive through Bangkok's road I am impressed by the stabilisation though. =)

yeah the S4 kills the G2 in terms of video all around.
damn it, I really want this phone over the S4 for its battery, I dont want to go to Note 3 cause that thing is way too big....WHY LG?! WHY?! U WERE SOOO CLOSE.....
I had a HTC one and the the video was ok for the one time I tried a night video since launch. Are you lot going bat watching or something as I'd gladly have a much faster phone and better screen then go to a s4 or HTC one.
