Please help. Did the RegawMOD root (that thread should be removed, it could cause so much damage).
Got an error at very end of process. Accessed bootloader, it's Tampered and Unlocked. The phone is also worthless.
It cannot access the Sprint network, nor can it access data. When roaming on VZW's network, it shows nonsense processes in small text on the home screen, scrolling and appearing as procesess start.
It it destroyed or can it be repaired? Lectures about rooting after an OTA will be ignored, please keep this thread only filled with good stuff. Thanks wise people.
Did you try to run the ruu.you will lose root but its better than having a paper weight
Well your unlocked and have a custom recovery, so flash a Rom and find out

You probably should post this on the regawMOD root thread because it's a higher chance that the OP of the thread and author of the tool will reply to you.

No it shouldn't. It works, if you didn't read and did something you shouldn't then that's on you. I have personally used that method when I first got my phone with no issues. Did you take the OTA and THEN try to root? If so:

You should read the whole thread (or at least the first and last two pages) before you attempt something like that. Anyway, more info is needed to try and help you better. What error did you get? What small text does it display on the home screen?

Read as much of the over 60 page thread as I could, I made a mistake. Forget the error, something about RW. The small text is process stuff life system_server, surfacefinger, com.android.phone, etc, scrolling on right side of screen, as the process starts/stops, I guess.

Take the SD card out. Use adapter for SD card in your PC to put a rom on it. Go into recovery and flash. (I'm assuming you have the adapter of course) Hope you get it working. Good luck

I saw somewhere that perm root has been achieved, but it is not being released because it could be hard to fix if you screw up the system partition.
Heres the thing though...
Don't we have the recovery files that can reflash the shipping OS version?
Also seeing as how we do not have S=Off that means we can't screw up the hboot or really flash anything that is "unautorized".
That means we could fix any issues by reflashing the stock software right?
Or is the perm root not being released because the method is too difficult.
If that is the case, I understand not wanting a bunch of casual flashers/rooters attempting this, but there are those of us that can actually follow instructions well. Heck I even rooted my old Nexus One without using the official unlock command. It involved switching SD cards at just the right moment while running special scripts for ADB and other craziness.
Saw this today,

I think the other part of this issue is that he (Evil DevNull -- oops I said a bad word around here) is using an exploit in the sim card system. He said he burned up two cards doing this. Probably not a very safe method at this point along with the other potential problems.

It is assumed he has a Factory rooted device, or possibly that a glitch in the "Root Checker" program still shows it was rooted after a reboot when it really wasn't. Also, it seems rather shady that he's already asking for money:
Would it be greedy of me to ask for a $5 donation from 500 people?

He started a new thread on the other Dev forums (the 1st one was locked) and we've asked him to Open Titanium before and after the reboot, as well as show us the Bootloader screen to see if it's a factory S-Off/Rooted phone or not. Also, we've asked him for his method. Just seems very shady to me.
Speaking of money...anyone willing to organize and spearhead donations to the developer or group that achieves s-off?
I know this was done on other phones where people pledged $x amount of money.

Pretty much. I wouldn't be asking anyone for a dime period let alone prior to providing a full disclosure of the methods used to obtain root status.
Just like everyone else....I'll believe it when I see it.
Blah... perm root S=On is good enough for me right now if it can happen.
I'll pitch in a few bucks for that... I'll throw a few more for S=Off.
First time since the G1 that I had a device before root was achieved. I wanted to take advantage of the penny sale at Verizon is why I picked it up now. I would have gotten a galaxy s 2 had Verizon offered one. Oh well, every HTC so far has been broken eventually. I hope we don't have to wait too long though.
There was already a donation thread started somewhere I believe. But Evil was the only verbal dev working on root/s-off and said he didn't want money.

This is dangerous. If something happens to /system you're screwed because without recovery it can't be..... well recovered.
There is already a temp root method that you can use to kill the bloat. Outside of that root doesn't really provide you with any other abilities except maybe to steal wifi tethering without subscribing.
Without s off you wont be able to overclock, flash custom Roms or alternate radios....so why do people think they need to have perm root without s-off?
There are plenty other things you can do with Root without S-Off.
THe EVO 3D with hboot 1.50 had the HTC Methosd which left u with an unlocked bootloader and S-On and Flashing kernels and such had to be done thru Fastboot Commands, Which was if the ROM had a Custom Kernel as a Default. I recently rooted my amaze (unlocked bootloader first, so perm root) and then proceeded to put the BeastMod rom on the phone via recovery mode. My issue is i have been getting a lot of restarts and force closes and I want to see if i can just return to the normal root (i assume it is just stock sense or something). I would say my understanding and skills are beginner level, so if someone could give me some instructions on how to do this it would be helpful.
I have downloaded the RUU for t-mobile already and I just need to know what to do and if I need to re-lock, or unroot, or whatever.
thanks!!!

I have followed all the instructions and done as I was told, and it keeps crashing a lot. I read somewhere that taskkillers can do damage custom roms. Maybe that's it? Idk.

Hey binary if you don't mind do you have an instant message, facebook, google plust anything to contact you and chat sometimes its faster to do that then keep posting on pages and populating them with things unrelated, if you're not comfortable that's always fine, i won't be offended or take it personally.
Also, say I was to go back to factory (out of the box)
I would have to relock bootloader, install the PH85IMG.zip for TMo, and would that be it. Would I have to flash another kernal or do anything with that?

correct...you don't really have to to flash another kernel since faux's is really based on stock assuming you installed faux's kernel, you should probably go back to stock kernel...also flash recovery back to stock. search development and you'll find how to do all these.

On the contrary, you don't need to re-lock your bootloader. I installed the last OTA with the bootloader still unlocked. Maybe I'm special though.
I would probably leave it unlocked till absolutely necessary. That way I could perm root again if wanted.

Hate to spit hairs here but it actually warns you that you MAY void your warranty. If there is a physical problem or manufacturers defect there should be no reason for them to deny warranty due to unlocked bootloader.
Now I want to start from scratch again. I would like to root and use a cleanrom.
I know how to do all this. However, what exactly do I need to delete from my computer? I still have all the files on here from the last time I rooted my rezound. But I want to start completely from scratch.
Thanks is advance
first, go to htc dev.com and unlock the device.
then download amon ra recovery and install
through cmd or cleanflash 1.0 tool from scott.
after installing, get su from advanced menu in recovery.
now you've been unlocked and rooted.
download the rom and kernel you want to install
then install using recovery.
Disagree. First test the speaker and telephone call quality. Then do some downloading or program updates and make sure the phone does not get too hot. Once you are sure you didn't get a lemon, then decide if you want to void the warranty.

I would probably not use the nands from your old set up on your new phone. I don't know if there's a way to access files in them other than from restoring them, but if there isn't I'd say get rid of them.
Also, you don't want to restore data from a Titanium backup if it's to a different ROM, don't know if it matters if it's to a different phone. So you can definitely use them to restore apps but might want to not restore data in case it causes any issues.
You'll need to get a new unlock code so you can delete that unlock_code.bin file you got last time.
Not sure what else you would have on there that you are wondering about. The folder you set up for using fastboot/adb can stay and be used again.

Thank you all for your help. I have tested the phone for a week now. Seems to be ok.
that was my question, about the adb and fasboot etc that's already on my computer.
I have no idea on my computer where my old unlock code is haha. Im.sure I will find it.
I can use the same drivers correct?
Thanks afaik for everyone's help. I appreciate it.

You do realize that even if you "void" your warranty, its easy to still return it for a replacement. Just put in the stock ROM and stock recovery and re-lock and you're good to go. You don't even need to re-lock, Verizon doesn't check.

She's already done that, believe me... we went through it together. lol.
putney... you can keep all the drivers and the whole fastboot/adb folder you have set up. That's just for your computer and not phone specific. Well, the drivers are HTC but you got the same phone so you're set.
No big deal on the Unlock_code.bin. If you end up with the old one and it doesn't work you can always generate a new one any time from what I've heard. I just keep mine in the fastboot/adb folder so it's always available. I also do that with Amon Ra. Then I don't have to go looking for them.

Alright so long story short I tried to rush through rooting my new phone here without checking everything out too much (complete fail on my part...but I wanted it rooted before I went out to the bars to save some battery life haha...ironic, now I'll have no phone tonight).
I went to root it and it somehow got screwed up...the sense launcher wasn't showing up along with the fact that when I pulled down the notification bar and hit settings, it crashed, so I went to unroot it with the RUU 1.13.651.1 and when I got to the comparison screen it said I had 1.13.651.1_R2...and being already frustraited at this point, decided how worse could it get? Tried it out, not my brand new phone is stuck at the black htc screen....fail.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I tried running it again to no avail...I'm about to try the other RUU to just see if it works, but I'm running out of other ideas. Anyone that can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
awesome first post and congrats on your new paperweight

Not that hard if he actually takes his time and reads before doing anything. If he can unlock the bootloader with htcdev and flash a recovery he should be ok

Easy. Hold the volume buttons down while you turn the phone on then choose to reformat or restore or whatever the option is.

Well, the good news is the phone is not hard bricked, it has a soft brick and is recoverable. Redownload the RUU and try again, but make sure you have the correct one. If that doesn't work you'll have to unlock with htcdev, flash a recovery and flash a ROM. Then try the RUU again if you no longer want root.
Like others have said...it sounds like there is hope for your phone yet. Take your time and CAREFULLY follow instructions for whichever process you choose. Hopefully you post again later saying you were able to fix it.
apparently he doesn't care that much... he hasn't checked back recently...

First off don't feel too bad, No matter how sure you know what your doing we all make mistakes. I paperweighted mine while manually installing some mods last night. If you would of watched the how to RUU the evo lte you would of seen that that the black HTC screen is perfectly normal. The phone will sit on that screen for like 10 minutes sometimes it will reboot and sometimes you will get differnt screens. The key is to have the drivers handy and install them if ur PC ever calls the device android 1.0.
The RUU version 1.13.651.1_R2 is the one you should be using. As scary as it is you just need to be patient, and let the RUU run it may look like nothing is happening but something is.

Nice! Who said there are no more Good Samaritans?
Props,
Doc
While installing ARHD 10.2 in CWM recovery Everything flashed fine and when i clicked reboot device I was promted to fix root. I clicked yes and then my device went into a bootloop. Is there a way to fix this without a computer so i can get back into recovery or do i have to use computer? I wont have access to my computer for several hours and the computer im on i cannot use for anything more than internet browsing. Also, if i do have to use a computer to correct this issue, what is the easiest way. I am using a mac.

I would, but I can't access recovery. When I try the CWM symbol flashes and then phone enters bootloop. This is the problem. If I could access recovery then I'd be fine and could either restore Nandroid or reflash ARHD.
I also see an option for 'Reboot Bootloader' in the fastboot menu. What does this do?

I'm sorry... What?
I have only made 3 threads recently and all were for very different reasons. And I only made them after extensively searching for the answers else where. If you would prefer not to help because you feel I'm some how doing something wrong then that is perfectly fine.

Actually the rule is-
5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.

as in only one thread per question/issue. I had 3 separate question/issues and only made 1 thread for each. I have never made a duplicate thread and never intend to. I don't know if you simply interpreted the rule in a different way, but I am very positive that I am not breaking any rules here. I do thank you for your concern, however next time maybe you could voice it differently or simply send me a PM.

No it is generally accepted around here that you don't need to make three separate threads. And I don't see how I should voice it differently considering nothing I said was hostile in any form

I never claimed that you said or did anything hostile. I simply said that you could have voiced it differently and then I continued to say next time you could simply send me a quick PM saying something like "Hey, I know your new here and having a little trouble with rooting and flashing, however we prefer that you only make one thread in which you can ask all your questions and issues that way it stays easy to navigate through the forums" I can tell you from personal experience that would have worked much better. All I'm asking now is that you realize this entire situation could been handled differently and gone in a different direction. I understand what your saying and next time I will try to remember your suggestion. Now if you could try to understand what I'm saying that would be awesome. Then we can forget this entire thing happened and continue to enjoy these forums and the purpose they serve.
