OK, so here's the store, hoping someone can help me out.
I bought an I9300T Vodafone Galaxy S3 and wanted to have it unbranded as I'm not with Vodafone. The branding didn't really bother me but after Kies updated the firmware i still didn't have the brightness slider in the notification tray so I figured i must be missing an update.
I used the steps from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
So here were my settings before updating:
Model - GT-I9300T
Android - 4.0.4 ICS
AP - I9300TDUALF2
CP - I9300TDULF2
CSC - I9300TTVAUALF2
Kernel -
3.0.15-CL674864-user
[email protected] #1
I downloaded this firmware (XSA for Australian unbranded):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759126
and updated using Odin.
All good so far, phone updated and everything was still there.
Now I have a couple of issues though.
I still don't have the brightness slider in the notification tray, Kies says my device no loner supports firmware upgrading and when i check for an OTA upgrade there is nothing available.
Any ideas guys?
Phone now shows these when i do *#1234#
AP - I9300XXALE8
CP - I9300XXLE8
CSC - I9300XSAALE6
You need LFB or LG1 firmwares to get brightness slider in pull down. Firmwares before these did not have this option
But shouldn't i get that through OTA?
I only found that XSA firmware as being for Australia.

It doesn't matter which country it's for, an I9300 is more or less the same the world over (And T-models like yours are, thankfully, compatible with regular flavour I9300 software). No guarantee when Samsung will push a particular update for a particular region, so why wait?
Just flash the UK build, the worst that might happen is you have to set an APN manually.

Thanks mate, any chance you can link to the one here i should use:

I looked for the LFB or LG1 firmwares as Watsa recommended above but can't see anything.
Really don't want to mess this thing up, only had it a day!

Thanks watsa, downloading I9300XXBLFB now and will try it out!

Hey guys
Im new to the galaxy s3 and samsung, I recently got my GS3 from newegg, unlocked international version.... I was wondering how to know which region the phone was from? I tried googling but i cant seem to find the answer. I came from an SE Arc S, SE had SI numbers so I could tell, but what does samsung use?
Also, there is no update for the latest LFB firmware yet... Does Samsung rollout firmwares for different regions in stages like SE? I'd like to keep everything stock..
When I press *#1234#, I get the following:
ap: i9300ubalf3
cp: i9300ublf2
csc: i9300uubalf3
Thanks
My understanding is that yours is Trinidad and Tobago.
Search for i9300uubalf3 on google and hit the sammobile result.
I think you can follow @SGS3Update on twitter to see if yours got the update, though I'm not sure how reliable this it. Technically, Kies should offer the update as soon as Samsung makes it avail.
What I still don't quite get is the role of CSC. More importantly, can we flash it independently of the firmware? And if so, which CSC canadian and US users should be flashing?

CSC can be flashed as a separate item .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
Says
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
CSC not required for phone to work .

Thanks,
Since there is no CSC for Canada or USA, I take it that there is no point in changing it (except for maybe getting faster official updates?)
As far as MMS and Data, in Canada and USA, we'll need modify APN separately since there is no CSC?

Hi, I also have the same CSC as the original poster, Located in Trinidad. Do you know which csc receives the updates as they are released? I want to flash mine to whatever it is.
I had the same *#1234# as OP. I flashed every modem found on the thread here and signal quality results weren't any better. Checked for updates and got nothing. I noticed that most talk about XXBLFB (UTB) UK, so I chose to flash that firmware. Just to be in the same playing field. I am using my phone in the Miami, FL USA area.

Flashed the UK latest firmware, UK CSC and it works fine with Rogers here. The rogers APNs are automatically in the APN list, I guess they get that from the sim?
Now i bought my S3 from the middle east (Qatar) because it got released there a week before launch.. and i am happy with it so far.
However, we never receive the latest OTA updates, and kies points to the latest middle eastern rom (which is old).. Do i have to update manually to get the latest ROMs for the United Kingdom? And will the phone always update with the UK roms after doing that or will it just keep giving OTA's based on the middle east?
Thanks.
Bloop
I will try to be more clear, I'll put the latest UK firmware on my phone, i live in Qatar.
Will i get the UK updates from now on instead of the Middle eastern ones?
I was running into the same situation (I'm currently in Dubai), all you have to do is to change your CSC (your region) just google How to change Samsung galaxy phones CSC
and you will find its pretty easy

Thank you very much for replying.
Now here's how i understand this, i need to flash "I9300OXABLG8" (Latest for UK CSC) in ODIN under the "CSC" tab.
Then connect Kies and it'll prompt to update to the latest UK rom.. right?
Or is it *#272*Device IMEI# and then BTU ?
When I connect my S3 to Kies, it shows the following firmware : PDA:LH9 / PHONE:LH9 / CSC:LH9 (BTU) [Am running the JB leaks]
I bought my S3 internationally, so that is probably why the firmware is the UK version.
However, I live in India. So, my question is, when the official JB comes out, will I be able to update my S3 to that from Kies after removing root & resetting the Flash counter from Stock ROM ?? But will I also have to change the CSC code to India to be able to update from India or just flashing the Indian 4.0.4 firmware from Sammobile will be good enough. I don't really have much idea about CSC, so please forgive me if it's a stupid question.
Sorry, if this already been asked before, but I couldn't find any info upon searching.
Thanks
The CSC isn't relevant at all. You can go to http://sammobile.com or even http://androidfirmwares.net and look for the relevant Multi-CSC ROM. Now saying this is don't know what's the CSC code for your region if one exists but it won't make a difference what you flash because there's no differences.

Grab your stock Rom from sammobile original and why not new JB when it comes out for your exact provider. I'd flash it with mobile odin pro and keep everoot. Counter will be 0, status will be normal. Need warranty remove traces of root unroot and you're done.

Hey guys,
I have a New Zealand Samsung S3 GT-I9300.
It's got no branding on the phone, no logos, no logos on startup etc and I didn't buy it from a Telecom, 2 Degrees, or Vodafone store so I assume its unlocked. I bought if from an electronic store called **** Smith.
It's on the Telecom network - just chucked in my Telecom SIM.
OS - 4.0.4
AP - 19300XXALF2
CP - 19300XXLF2
CSC - 19300NZCALF1
At the moment when I plug the phone into Kies, it gives me the message "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to firmware via Kies".
After doing some research and troubleshooting steps like making sure Kies is up to date, reinstalling drivers etc I saw that some people said that if your CSC is wrong Kies won't upgrade your phone.
I realised that Jellybean hasn't been released for NZ yet but I figure that Kies should be saying something along the line of 'You have the latest firmware..' instead of saying its not supported.
So I was just wondering if my CSC looks fine for an unlocked NZ S3.
Let me know if you need any more information.
Cheers
My S3 is unlocked from Parallel on Vodafone NZ had the same CSC with no problems. I wouldn't worry about it much you can always flash via Odin.
If you are worried about it, flash the stock rom via Odin and use the BTU CSC that's what I've done, I have had no issues with it at all, and it's updated itself all the way up to 4.1.1 OTA with no problem.
Also, have you rooted the phone? If so it can report that you are unable to update via Kies

Thanks for your reply and advice
My phone isn't rooted.
BTU is UK right?
Couldn't I just change the CSC instead of flashing another ROM?
This will void warranty right? Don't really mind but just wondering out of curiosity.
Cheers
Mine isn't rooted either. You don't need to be in order to install the rom through Odin.
BTU is in fact UK
You can try to change the CSC first and see if that works, keep in mind it's going to wipe your phone when you do so.
It should not void the warranty, as you will still be using a default stock official rom, most people load the stock official when sending it in for repair work
By the way, the stock rom I used was the one listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610 from May 13th :
I9300XXALE8 Download (Thanks To SamMobile!)
Base Firmware: I9300XXALE8 (4.0.4)
Region Europe
Country: United Kingdom
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 13 May 2012
Modem: XXLE8
CSC: OXAALE8
Change List: 554452
I then accepted OTA updates on the phone directly to get it up to the current rom

Thanks for that!
I'll give that a go.
Thanks
Just by coincidence my phone updated to Jellybean 4.1.1 via OTA a few days ago without me having to flash another stock ROM on it.
Also, Kies now reports that I have the latest firmware.
Looks like all I had to do was be a bit more patient.
Everything seems to be in order now.
Cheers for your help anyway guys.
I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?

Its OK at most bring it down to Samsung service centre and ask them to update your phone to the latest they have. They should be more then happy to help.

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'm fine with just flashing it with Odin. I was planning to root it anyway. I'm just trying to find out as much as I can before I try.
