What is your idle drain? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Generally, overnight, I lose about 1% per hour when the phone is idle.
Some people seem to manage significantly less than that, so I'm looking into how it's possible.
What's your idle drain? Is 1%/hour fairly good? What have you done to reduce it?

1% per hour is totally okay when not in airplane mode!

Actually also very much dependent on location, service providers, cell tower switch...

Turn of wifi, data and GPS at night, no need for them to be on during night time.
This will improve battery life

GPS, I agree. However some of us DO want data sync to get notifications and reports whenever necessary.
But some of us also plug in the phone overnight so I don't care how much it drains as far as it's below the charger's capacity
I have roughly 3%-5% idle drain with Sync enabled and 3G/HSPA active on CM9 rom. 2G mode with sync enabled is 1-2% drain.
No sync is < 1% drain.

I always leave wifi on and mobile data off overnight with sync, GPS and whatever else on.
I think turning GPS off is pointless as it is only used when needed and if its off the phone will resort to network location and that will use the mobile data connection which we all know is a battery hog.
Also wifi is better to leave on overnight as it is less power consuming than mobile data and potentially faster so a sync is finished quicker.
The most important thing to do is to find anything preventing the phone from sleeping.
These are my results from last night on cm9, wifi on, sync on, gps on and mobile data off.

This is the Q&A section of the board. You made a statement.
Apart from getting roughly 3 hrs of screen on time with around 63% of battery (this based purely on your screen shot & may not be entirely accurate given the complete lack of detail you've provided), this tells us pretty much nothing about your usage.
Well you've probably had about 3 hours screen time + 3g + Bluetooth on and connected as well. Seems fair to me.
Anyway, with so many battery related threads why not just post there instead of starting a new thread?

Really, what for new thread?
Not clearly...
Turn on GSM-only in the network settings. Turn off bluetooth and auto-brightness. Sync and background data also sucks the hell out of your battery ^^
this is my usage. the battery keeps reducing even during idle, with no wakelocks, by around 3% an hour. i've set the setting to gsm only, turned off wifi & bluetooth, turned off auto syncing, but its still like this.
and in the 2nd attachment picture is the rom i'm using
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
looks good but how is your on screen time?
is that considered good? cause i've seen a straight line (only losing 1 to 2% over 8 hours) during screen off time. i don't quite like it now cause i always fully charge before sleep, and when i woke up it only remains 70%....
on screen time, i've never fully use from 100% to dead, so cant be sure...
Try the JuiceDefender application (Market). The free version is good enough to help you out. I use the ultimate version and using my phone all day long (3g, internet, sync, gps) I can easily got 40% to 50% left at night (full charge in the morning).
i dun think i'll need juice defender...i always do everything it does (i.e turning off 3g, wifi, bluetooth, sync, gps) when not in use...
You need autostarts, I paid for it and its made having my phone possible.

Don't use Juice Defender. Unless you want to use more battery. It uses far more juice than it claims to save if many people on XDA's experience using it holds true. Plus, as Thonney quite rightly pointed out, many (most) of us already do the things it does manually which takes all of a few seconds & costs zero battery.

[Q] Does this reflect decent battery life?

Hi Guys,
Coming from a blackberry in the past, battery life hasnt been splendid for me at all. Having switched to sgs3, i am running the custom rom and kernel as stated on my siggy.
I am looking to have better battery life if possible. If you guys need more information let me know. I hope the single screenshot is enough.
Please comment if I am experiencing good battery life or not. I am also contemplating to download BetterBatteryStats to check my wakelocks.
Cheers,
Anjoid
P.S Feel free to post your battery life with a screenshot here as well, and I hope to learn more from that. and i cant seem to attach any file. when i click on attach, another window pops up that asks me to sign in. and when i do, it repeats the process.

Please do. There is a free APK of BetterBatteryStats here on Xda.
Since switching to Cyanogenmod9 with DXLF3 modem and Siyah Kernel, by standby battery drain has been between 1-2% with 3G and Sync enabled. It would be even somewhat better if it was von 2G. I also configured the kernel in ExTweaks for better responsiveness on the cost of battery life.
Please specify your usage and battery life. People who only use the phone for the odd phone call experience up to 5 days of battery life, while I usually have 20% left at the end of the day. Totally different usage scenarios.
Also make sure your network supports fast dormancy. To check, dial *#0011# on stock dialer (not Go Dialer!) and check the RRC state if the phone has not been transferring data for some time. It should state IDLE when the phone is connected to HSPA/3G.

I'm pretty sure this isn't normal...

You could try to reset the phone but you will have to reinstall all your apps so I would use the backup feature before you try it. If that doesn't work then you would be better off exchanging it if you are within the 14 day return policy.
the est time remaining is a dynamic estimate, it will change depending on use. i've read that it could have something to do with google accounts constantly syncing if you are experiencing poor battery life. a reset seems to fix it for now, i would try that, and if it's still poor, exchange it like bjd223 says..
Well, it hasn't been charged since but it's showing 9 since last charge and 9 hours remaining with 35 percent left. That initial amount was disconcerting though.
like i said, it's all dynamically changing and is based upon the usage pattern of the last poll, so if you were using the device heavily and then went to check the battery saver stats, it would base the est time remaining on as if you were using the phone in the same way until the battery died. if you start using it less and then go back and check (like i'm assuming you did) it will give you a new estimate based on that usage pattern. i've had it tell me i have 50% left and like almost 2 days of time remaning.
android's battery graph works in a similar way, it just shows you more detailed information of what's using your battery.
Agree with @adiliyo that the phone battery status will keep changing on how you are using your phone. I get around the same time as my lumia 900 and sgs2 which is anything between 13 -19 hours depending how I use it ( I am used to overnight charging).
Some Battery Culprits
Nokia Drive Beta + ( If you open this when closing it is suggested to keep pressing the back arrow key until you reach homescreen to exit it properly
Background Tasks - Disable whatever you don't need to in the settings menu
Email Sync - Try using a longer duration ( I use one hour for four email accounts )
and I always switch WIFI or Bluetooth off when not in use.
And Poor Network Signal will always drain your battery as the phone as to work harder to get a proper signal also resulting in the phone getting hotter especially during browsing

S2 results always active while charging

Hi, I know there are already many threads about it but I think I have a slightly different problem: while charging the phone is always active (as if he was doing something in the background) resulting in an extended charge time.
First thought: there must be an active process (developers opts-> show cpu usage) and ... nothing
Second thought: maybe "dmesg" can tell me something more and...
...well, that seems something

The "adc" value of the battery significantly increases when connected to the wall charger, so even if the "adc_chg" value is high it is compensated by the high drain of the battery.
Am i wrong? Has someone any idea about the cause of the problem or about how to find it ?
Thanks (going mad, yet changed battery, charger and multiple USB flex ports )
You do know that our phone never deep sleeps when it is plugged? There is a specific wakelock for charging, which will keep the freq to 200mhz. As for battery drainage, nothing much can be done because our phone's charging capability is not advanced compared to newer phones and hence it is easy to drain the phone battery even when plugged. Doing simple things like closing all unused apps, keeping the screen off, turning off Bluetooth or WiFi may make the phone charge a little faster.

I did know it, it was stated somewhere in the previous threads. What I forgot to mention is that, actually, I'm talking of an s2 with Greenify activated, no third party background process admitted except Telegram & Whatsapp services but charging in offline mode, screen always off. And still says it will take 2h 45m when charging starting from 65%, math can be done for when starting from 1%.
Time ago it only took about 1h 45m to charge completely, so it seems strange.

Battery Usage meter is crazy or Bluetooth is eating my battery.

I've noticed that lately (couple of months) my beloved Z4 tablet's battery performance is less than optimal.
I'm about to go through the song and dance of battery optimization, but I wanted to find abusive apps.
Here's what I see; battery is being consumed mostly by the bluetooth connection I keep on nearly 100% of the time I'm using my tablet because of the BK50 keyboard.
Is anyone experiencing something similar or has any recommendation?
thanks,

Im using lineage os and some gladly helped me out with battery im sure tis will work on stock rom no root too. Enable aeroplane mode, disable WiFi when screen is off and disable Bluetooth. Not sure why but I noticed WiFi greatly drains the battery having it off makes it last much longer.

I would try to upgrade to the latest ROM and hopefully some Bluetooth settings are reset after this.
If this does not help do a factory reset.
You could also try a search on "bluetooth reset" on xda.
I get several days of usage (reading, websurfing in the evenings) out of my tablet where Bluetooth is normally switched of.
On my SONY XZ where Bluetooth is on but only utilized in the car or sometimes with a headset it does not even make it to the list of battery drainers.
