SDE not voiding the warranty? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was googling and I found this thread at ArchosFans. They said that the SDE (Special Developer Edition) does not void the warranty. Can we get a confirmation on that? BTW, I don't know if I posted this to the right forum, since there are only ROMs here, but I thought it may be of interest to you.

No, the hardware warranty is still ok.

Yep, If your tablet explodes or catches on fire, you are good. If you brick it by somehow flashing bad firmware or something through the SDE menu, then you're not covered.

What happens if I go back to stock without root and uninstall SDE? Could I still lose the warranty?

Even if you remove SDE completely, your device will remain "marked" , meaning archos can know that SDE was installed... But still, these devices are really hard to brick, so undless you mess with the bootloader and recovery partitions, you will always be safe. The hardware warranty, on the other hand, remains intact, even if you install the SDE, the only way to void that is to open up the device

yes if you somehow brick it. If you're really that worried, you can try the unofficial SDE method. I have a tut back a couple pages, quinny has one as well.

If you use the official sde, you aren't covered. If you use the unofficial one, you are. This includes hardware failures

[Q] Unrecoverable bootloader

Hello I like to know if there is news from the following problem "unrecoverable error bootloader <0x00000004>." thank you
No, sorry, your Prime is dead. We don't know any way to recover from this error.
May I ask what you did to get there?
I feel like crying, I was under CyanogenMod9 but I did not like so I pressed on with an ICS official version I followed the tutorial to make change rom and voila the result. This is final or you will find a way in a long time, you think that the guarantee can work?

So you flashed a stock ASUS bloblfile. Yea this definitely bricks ylour Prime.
Currently there is no way to recover from this, only ASUS themselfs can do.
At the momemt your Prime is absolutely dead and it's pretty unlikely this will ever change.
Can you tell me what OTA the was the latest you applied BEFORE unlocking the bootloader? Were you on .15 already? Or below .15?
yes i was on 0.15
I have only hope that the guarantee works
its worth a shot but you know what Asus said will happen once you unlocked that bootloader with their tool. they have your serial number in their system as someone who unlocked. good luck! let us know how it goes.
I have not done with their tool to unlock the bootloader, so they do not have my serial number

[Q] Not Turning on After Software Update

So I just got the phone today and decided to upgrade to ics, that was a big mistake. The phone won't turn on . When I plug it into the computer it has the green charging led but when I plug it into the charger nothing just a dark green led that will blink every 10 seconds or so. don't care if I have to downgrade I just want it to work. Also when it's not plugged in it does the same dark green blink and when I try turning it on nothing no vibration or anything.
Use flashtool to unbrick your device.

Weird, maybe you flashed it wrong. Anyways, go back to GB and then flash again to ICS if you'd like to, you shouldn't get any troubles downgrading.

As for my knowledge this is not possible! but next time use the "MyPhoneExplorer" it keeps contacts in PC so whenever u flash firmware, install its client on phone and run this software on PC and then it will put all the contacts that u had on ur phone before flash. last night i had done rooting on my phone by following steps hope it will also help u for flashing a firmware via flashtool.

Provided you updated via seus try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676565
I don't think you'll void your contract because you are re flashing the service providers update .
Your problem may be due to incomplete flashing .

Which provider do you have? You are scared if you flash an international firmware instead of the one from your provider, you can't use sim card or what's the problem about that?

You mean your provider, right? Not your contacts like everyone else are saying. Well, nothing will happen, it's just an international firmware, you won't lose the contract... Don't worry
Don't worry bro, It has nothing to do with your Provider. Go ahead.

1.He upgraded his device to ics and the phone won't boot.
2.He doesn't want to downgrade (gb) or reflash (ics) using international ftf firmware (flashtool method) .
3. He always used official update software and he is afraid of voiding the CONTRACT with his service provider if he uses flashtool method.
4. Please read the op clearly he doesn't mean CONTACTS he means the CONTRACT with his service provider.
5. To the op,
Please post your problem step by step clearly and highlight the important words by using upper case letters or different color.
6. As I've never used a network contract phone I cannot comment on this thread confidently. So others please try to help the op.

One won't lose the warranty if he/she fails in an official upgrade, send it to the dealer for repair before trying oneself with Flashtool, which may alter the build.prop, and else. Right?
By the way, my Xperia Mini Pro fails to change the input method by long pressing the text input area with.431 ics ROM, any hints? Thanks.

If you have never rooted and bootloader is locked (and I think it is), please send it to service or give it to the shop where you've bought it. This is better, and because it was an official update, you should be able to claim your warranty.
If you try to do it yourself with flashtool, you will modify your phone and if they find out, your warranty is lost. So please don't flash it, give it to service

[Q] CWM after bricking???

NO!
Bricked:
To render your computer useless, as useless as a brick.
Usually the result of tampering with the insides and doing irreversible damage. Bricking your hardware leaves you with a new paperweight. Can be the end effect of a faulty flash or firmware update, a modification (mod) gone bad or being struck by lighting, to name a few.

By definition of xda members, "bricked" is when your phone becomes a physical brick or paperweight.
According to them, if you able to access CWM or any mode, it is NOT bricked.
Sometimes, worst case, it can be fixed by sending out to HW guru or other paid group.
Anyway, don't mess up your phone if you're not ready.
Just to make things clear, when you brick your device, the device will not turn on..PERIOD. If it turns on but won't boot, you can access cwm.
There are different things you can damage when flashing... losing /system will stick you at the kernel splash with full access to DL mode and recovery. A kernel flash screwup where you lose "/boot" will stick you at the bootloader splash with no recovery, but DL mode works. The only time nothing works is when you screwup the bootloader, which will usually give you nothing on screen and no access to anything.

Stuck at boot animation + more info inside

Hello, so I ran out of battery on my way home, when I got home I plugged the phone and went to sleep. Today when I woke up, I turned on the device, but it got stuck @ galaxy s3 boot animation, the animation you get before your ROM's boot animation kicks in, so I went to recovery and tried to recover one of my recoveries. it didn't help. I did a factory reset, it still was the same, stuck on galaxys3 boot animation. So I decided to flash stock samsung rom using ODIN. But now I'm stuck at the samsungs stock ROM boot animation, I tried factory reset couple of times but it didn't help.
Any idea what might be the issue, I have flashed this rom
Edit: Also the line "E: failed to mount /efs" is something to worry about when you boot into recovery?
So flashing via Odin works w/o errors?

Yeah, when i flashed using odin, I didn't encounter any error, more one thing to mention, when I boot to recover I get
E: failed to mount /efs
Is that something to have concern about?
oh yes. do you have an efs backup? that's the first thing you should do before flashing anything. if yes, restore it. if not, send it to service

Yes you will find that the vendor or Samsung refuse warranty .
Your option is to fight that as not relevant to your problem .

you are correct, in the EU you still can get lucky due to some regulations and you have to show that the root did not cause the problem, outside the EU I am not sure. The restriction of the internals of every device is not for nothing in place don't you think so? Otherwise manufacturers would get hundreds of complains because someone messed up something...

If you do not have an EFS backup I guess it will be difficult to restore. Only solution then will be to send it in for service if I am not wrong.

Ok first. This is all stuff you should have known and understood before you even messed with your device. There are very real risks that could brick your device for good and as it voids your warranty then. You are sol.
Stop what you are doing and spend about 5 hours researching things in your device forum.
If I were you, once you get things back to stock, stop messing with your device. Until you understand every aspect of it. Other wise you will end up with a brick and no warranty.
