[ISSUE] I9300 not Waking up - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
In the past few days ive noticed that if i dont check my phone regularly it will simply refuse to wake up (screen on). I know the phone is still working as the LightFlow settings still use the notification light when needed. I have also had situations where the phone wakes up but theres no touch functions, but locking and waking up again fixes that in 1 try. Has anyone else had this issue or am I going to have to send the phone back?
Thanks
Michael
P.S. The phone is not rooted and hasnt been updated since out the box. Any suggestions to root the phone to fix this will be ignored.

Uninstall LightFlow it has been known to cause this issue.
That is all we can suggest unless your willing to root.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had my HTC Desire rooted and this has put me off rooting my phone at the moment, but I was waiting for the Jelly Bean AOSP anyway.

Not trying to take this too far off topic, but what do you have against root? All root effectively is is an admin mode, you don't have to flash a custom rom.

I dont have anything against root. Its just that when I have a problem with my phone and people suggest to root it, if it doesnt work im kinda screwed over with warranty etc.
Unfortunatly removing Lightflow didnt help and its still happening

It's quite easy to revert back to Stock for warranty repairs.
Rooting does not brick your phone.

Wont they reject it if its rooted? This would be the first phone ive sent for repairs. My HTC Desire never faulted in 2 years but this is starting to annoy me just a month and a half into my contract.

Yes, but u can use "triangle away" (by chainfire) to reset flash counter(found in download mode) and flash a stock rom with Odin and back is your warranty.

root...warranty...bla bla bla...why want to return just because of that? do u know that samsung software engineers sucks? i bought nexus, and i just use it for 1 week. want to know why? because it's so boring. the phone so perfect. no problem at all. nothing to tweak, nothing to fix, nothing to improve. i switch back to Samsung Galaxy because of this (before this use SGS1, now SGS3). so, if you have problem like THIS, change your kernel, or just sit and wait for update to fix it. samsung monitoring it (SLOWWWWWLYYY)

About rooting, what the f... are talking about read the posts made by OP. he asked if u loose warrenty if u root and yes u do, but root is reversible and THAT is what the OP wanted to know

Over here afaik at least within the first period the seller has to actually prove you caused the damage to refuse the claim.
Having a rooted device will not stand as having caused hardware-damage.
So far I've yet to hear about a single case of warranty being refused in this country due to software modifications.
If it was as simple as putting a "Waranty void if removed" sticker on stuff actually having any meaning, that would be the end of democraty. Fortunately the law tells otherwise and manufacturers have to obey it (or buy their own law... at least in the USA that seems to work)
However it most certainly will make repairs far easier if the device is stock since they cannot even try to blame you for incorrect configurations or bad flashes.

Thanks for the help guys, Im on holiday at the moment so I'll see if theres a Kernal update when I get home. If not I'll check on the Jelly Bean (or something popular thats been out for a long time) rom stability and root for that. If nothing helps from those ill use the Triangle program to get rid of the root history and send it back for repairs.
EDIT: My Kernal is from May 13th. Surprised I havent had an update come thorugh yet. There isnt even a check for update button in my "About Phone"

Are you by any chance on Orange UK or Three UK? (Can't remember which of both was it)
They've removed that button in their bloatware-edition of the Samsung ROM - probably to prevent users from updating over 3G connectivity.

Just flash any Samsung- or aftermarket-ROM (I recommend CM9 or the CM9-based ParanoidAndroid) of your choice and you're good.
DXLF3 modem should work well according to what I've heard.

Tmobile/Samsung return possible?

Well my phone is bricked (stuck at vibrant screen) AND "Hardware Locked" (cant use button combinations to get to download mode or recovery) after trying to install a kernel that ended up not being for my firmware version..
IF at all possible i would like to be able to get into download or recovery mode but since im hardware locked i dont know how, so if anyone has any suggestions then their are more details in my previous thread.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788189
BUT if i can't possibly restore my phone to working order i would like to get it replaced; now i have heard that you can get a free replacement under manufacturer warranty since it is "Hardware Locked". if anyone know if this is true and/or how to go about doing this, i would be eternally in your debt
When you find out you can't enter download mode via hardware, should have stopped modding there. No offense, I am no help but just saying..

That's what I did when Odin bricked me. They replaced it right there in the store. Even the techs on the phone didn't know what was going on with it. It was kind of funny to watch actually.
On a side note, why the hell are we still using Odin to flash when it is capable of bricking so often, when we have a perfectly good means of flashing through Clockwork?? Just saying.
if you have passed the 30 day return..you can still get Tmo to repair it because you have 1 year warranty. just pretend that you don't know a thing and say the other day you turned it on...it just got stuck on the vibrant screen.

plz help root identification by sony service center

Hi
I have upgraded my tablet to usa official ics firmware by changing the region to usa
In the process I lost my root now its like a official usa tablet
So is there anyway the sony service people come to know that my tablet was rooted prior?
There is no su user in the apps and the root is completely gone
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
I think they only check the serial code which is unique so, probaly there's nothing going on, also they probaly wouldn't notice it anyway.
But why do you want to know? is your device bricked do you have problems with your tab of is it just curiousity?

Haha xD i get it, but i think you don't have to worry i had my device bricked, Really bad with root on in changed region to portugal for some reason? all my date was gone because there was a little tiny problem that may cause problems in Condi's 2.X tool with the region changer and that happend to me so it wasn't repairable condi did make a improvement to provide people to brick their devices, but i had to send it back with all those changes and you know what? still a usefull warranty XD they even replaced the MTB Chip and that cost is almost egual to the tab so im glad as long the tab isn't rebootable ( Fully ) then you can do everything you want rooting flashing etc., but if it can reboot and you have a other issue then its a high chance that they notice something thats different

They could simply see the superuser app nothing more thats enough to know that
you mess up things by your self, just unroot device and thats it, then again,
If your device can't reboot and you can get in recovery try too do a factory reset
before you bring it back, it wil reset last changes and clear the last update.zip info,
for example a rom or whatever,
If you have a Samsung Galaxy SII rooted you will see a Warning sign if you start it,
if you send the phone to samsung for repair they will see that you have it rooted,
and whoeshh there goes your warranty.

Device status: Modified

Have any one notice this.
Used triangle away and my flash counter is 0
I wonder this has any impact for those who want to send their device for service/ warranty?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Read the thread for Triangle Away, it explains this.
Flash the stock rom for your region.
It will revert back to normal
Sorry to hijack your thread, but i noticed mine says the same, and i havent flashed it. However i have root access, so i guess that is enough to make it "modified".
Would this go back to normal, if i unroot it?
Funnily enough, I noticed this just today on mine - mine is an original unlocked phone, all I've done is root it.

Rooting it involves an "unauthorised" flash. You need to Triangle Away, pull the battery then revert to stock... As detailed in the Triangle Away post.
Just follow these two video in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710613
And you will be able to have your phones status say "Normal" instead of "Modified"

oh, I thought you asked if they can read that if you send the phone to them
nah, I don't think they'll do that
sorry should have been more specific. I was meaning if they can digitally read it from their diagnostic software or whatever they have. I've never worked in a cell phone call center. Maybe I should go get a job at one just to scope out what they can and cannot find out by just a push of a button.

Problem rooting S5 active

I've recently upgraded phones and have decided to root my S5 active. Unfortunately, I am not running the NE4 version of the firmware, therefore, I am not able to use Towelroot. I've done quite a bit of digging trying to solve the problem to no avail. I've tried using Odin to either downgrade my firmware or install a custom/rooted firmware but Odin gives an "Auth" fail. I've done as much research as I can into why I get an auth fail and nothing I've seen suggested has helped. I've tried installing firmware through the SD card, looked into sideloading firmware but that seems to be only for updates as far as I can tell. I am well and truly at a loss and was hoping someone could help.
S5 active
Samsung-sm-g870a
Version: 5.1.1
I hate to say it but you are in the same boat I am. There is no root for that. They patched the hole and prevent downgrading.
The only ones that might have been able to break it walked away from Samsung years ago. Sorry. Don't feel bad your not alone.
Surely to god someone SOMEWHERE has figured something out? Maybe I can take it to best buy and have them downgrade the software for me?

It won't work. The updated bootloader prevents it being downgraded. It would take a jtag machine and Samsung to do it.
No. No one has. You have to remember that the best walked away from Samsung. Anyone that tries to break it gets hit with a C&D order.

Considering no one has been able to be able to crack Samsung locks I wouldn't count on it. I would just accept that it is a locked down device. This is the reason developers Dont buy Samsung devices anymore.
I've shot the creator of towelroot an email asking about mod strings. Hopefully he can explain it a little and help me out. If I find something out I'll let you know but I still am hopeful someone has SOME solution for me. I'm desperate

Well to be honest. If root is something you need then you should avoid Samsung.
If you find something then cool. I'll never use it. The security issues could get me in trouble keeping with my job so it's out of the question.
The only reason I'm trying so hard is because this is my old phone and I can't really afford much of anything else. If I felt like I had another option, I'd go for it. I have no security concerns, I'm not even particularly concerned about bricking my old phone. If I can't figure out how to root it, it might as well be a brick anyway for how useful it is.

It's still a good device. Even stock. The security concerns are there you just don't understand them completely. As an example. They store your IMEI. Which can be used to clone your device. As such when the oem sees 2 IMEI the same it kills both devices. Making them both not work.
I'll be honest for that device you are gonna waste more time trying to find away around it. ( it will be blocked again with the 6.0 update that is planned for it) then you would just using it as is. Mine is completely stock and works as it should.
I'm honestly not worried about losing the device to something like that. I'm not storing anything particularly interesting on it but I need the root to do what I want. I won't be updating the firmware at all so it'll never go to 6.0

Well then good luck. You will need it. Also keep in mind with those root you will have to reroot every reboot. That's if he can find a new whole Samsung has not patched, which is becoming harder with monthly security updates.
It is well accepted around here that sooner or later only nexus devices will be rootable or have any development done for it.
If I had known that earlier, it could've saved me a lot of hassle but this is where I am right now. My new phone is the S7 edge and I really want to use the S5 active for something else.
No one knows of anyone I can even pay to look into maybe even changing the firmware? No way to load custom firmware at all?

No. Samsung locked it down. They made it so the bootloader can't be downgraded. You have to understand most of the real good developers walked away from Samsung and now refuse to work on their devices or even buy them. When it comes to developers Samsung is at the top of the list right next to Xiaomi of devices not to get. More and more teams are even dropping all support for Samsung devices. It's just the way it is really.
And since it's a phone the hardware can't be changed either?

It can be but you would have to find a device that has the old 4.4.4 rom and then swap mother boards. Not easy at all. Let alone the min it gets connected to a cell network it will update anyway.
I know it's a hard thing to do but I would get used to it mainly with the new device you just. Got.
