Since the Evo 3D cannot be rooted yet I am hoping that this is something that can be explained and someone has had similar problem and has a answer.
I have had te Evo 3D since launch day and Handcent is probably the first app I installed on day one ad seemsed to be working just fine until a few days ago.
When I get a voicemail it use to go to the stock visual voicemail but the last few I had gotten my notification started coming from Handcent. It would say I have a message and to call to listen and it would have a 480-970-0000 # to call. Now if I am not mistaken that is a Google voice number but I haven't ever used google voice even though I have a google voice account.
I kept trying to go through Handcent to see if all the settings were correct but I couldn't find anything out of place. Then I did the only thing I could think of and that was to remove handcent and my visual voicemail returned.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to correct it?
I want to keep and use Handcent but I can't figure out why it just started interferring with voicemail.
Can anyone explain this oddity? I hate the stock message app and hope there is a solution because I don't want to have o continue using it and want to us Handcent.
Now I haven't tried to use GoSMS to see if it will work with it but isn't it on the exact same format as Handcent? They are so similar I wonder if they aren't really the same app just different names.
you have to uncheck handcent's setting making it the default messenger. the native sms app has to get the trigger for visual voicemail.
thanks, I was wondering if that would do it. I did uncheck it and voicemails seems to be working properly.....
Where exactly is that option to "uncheck handcent's setting making it the default messenger" can't seem to find it. I myself am having that problem.

I had this problem too and this fixed it for me as well.
In the handcent sms app hit your menu button, go to settings => application settings => default messaging application => disable.
If you intend to only use handcent as I do, make sure to turn off your notifications in the stock messaging app so you don't receive two notifications per 1 message.
Also, on a side note, I had a problem with sending picture messages over handcent, they would always seem to get hung up and not send, but when i tried to send on the stock app it sent just fine. Anyone else have this happen to them?
Thanks for the help, found it!
Also, I get the same problem sometimes when sending picture msgs, where they get "hung up" as you mentioned. Usually when that happens to me, I cancel the picture mail then resend it again. That sometimes works for me.
i have the same problem with gosms but i dont have any option to disable it as the default messaging app

Actually I just went through this and there is a solution that lets you use Handcent and Visual Voicemail.
In Handcent the latest version allows you to make Handcent your default SMS/MMS app. Of course the natural thing to do is select that. Well that's what messes up VVM and causes those annoying text messages instead of the actual voicemails being sent to your device.
Just select "Disable" for that feature. (turn off all notifications on the stock message app so you don't get double notifications).
Next go to VVM and click on the menu and select compose. Put your own phone number in the TO: address field. Next, record a short 1 or 2 second message. Then press send. This will cause VVM to begin working again and in a few seconds any voicmails that are waiting will be sent to your device.
By the way, I've sent the folks at Handcent an email letting them know of this issue. They have yet to respond.
Thanks for the workaround mvansomeren, this was driving me NUTS! All temp fixed thanks to your instructions. Hopefully Handcent will release an update.
I know the feeling! Glad it worked for you as well.
I got the new Google Voice update on my Droid X (stock/rooted 2.3) and am having problem with notifications.
I have vibrate, ringtone, light notification bar icon all on in the settings.
Frequently, when I get a text, I get the vibrate and the notification light blinks once. I don't get my notification ringtone and there's no notification icon. Obviously, that's a big problem. If I don't hear the initial vibrate, I have no way to know I have a text unless I open up the app.
I went back to the previous Google Voice version and I don't have this issue.
Anyone else having similar issues?

Yeah the update is terrible.
I didn't get any notifications whatsoever.
It wouldn't even update unless I forced it to
I tried to down grade Google Voice but I still had issues getting text messages. I uninstalled Googe Voice and I still didn't get my text messages. I installed an app called Gingerbread Ghostly SMS and now I get my messages.
Hey guys,
I have been using the Sprint/GV integration for a while now, and things have been great. Text has been arriving instantly on my computer, where I do most of my text communication. Now I have noticed that ever since Google updated to 0.4.2.36, my texts are delayed to GV's site and GVNotifier. If I open up the text on my phone, it pops up on my computer a few seconds later. If I leave the text unopened, it can sit for hours, or sometimes I'll get another new text 10-20 minutes later, and they will all spill out on my PC.
I believe it has something to do with some new settings and sync methods on the new app. Previously, you had the option of syncing your inbox, and it would even give you a warning about duplicate notifications. Now, that is gone. You simply select, GV-only, or both. Before, I had to disable GV notifcations, (including voicemail.) Now with this change, and sync settings, it's almost as if GV isn't getting my text until my phone syncs it with my GV account. Previously this tended to happen on the back-end, regardless if my phone was online or not. In fact, when I have my phone turned off, texts come through GV/GVNotifier just fine... Not sure what can cause the GV app to do this. I am considering removing it completely, but I like being able to search through my texts.
Has anyone else noticed issues since the new GV app was released?

I've experienced something similar...Sometimes, I will get a text on GV(site&app) but it will never come to my phone, and people have gotten angry at me for not replying, but it's not until I check the app or site that I notice I got a text message. This only started happening with the recent update to the GV app.
Another thing that bothers me is the inability to mark all as read from the site/app. Gmail does it..WTF Google? I have over 600 supposedly unread messages sitting on GV that I can't mark all as read. I have to manually go and mark a page at a time (which is around 10) until they're all marked, fail.

I have to go in daily and mark texts as read... Luckily I spend a lot of time on the website, but it is still annoying.
I too have the same issue with some texts only going to GV.... it's a bit more rare than the other problems, but it has happened about 5 times in the last few weeks. I find myself using the larger GV widget now, and checking it regularly.
BTW they just redesigned the site so you can select all and mark them read. I just do a label:unread then check 'em all.
So I just restored GV 0.4.2.32 on my Evo 3D, and all of the sudden my texts are arriving on my computer instantly, and things seem overall more consistent. I can't say for sure this is the fix, but it seems promising. I wish I had a later version, since this is from June.
Does anyone have the previous version we can reinstall? Mine is doing the same thing.. Im on the EVO4G.
Someone sent me a text at 8:05 PM last night.. I never received it.. HOWEVER, this morning I received a REGULAR TEXT MESSAGE (not google voice but regular phone text).. as soon as that one came through, so did the google voice text. This same thing has been happening every day for the past month. If I leave the APP OPEN with the phone on, it seems to work, but if not, my google voice texts and notifications seem to only come in when I get a regular text message... I can hear he regular text message notification sound and then right after I hear the google voice notification sound...
I assume if we go back to the previous version it will work again?
Thanks...

I used TITANIUM BACKUP and set the app to be disconnected from the APP STORE so it doesnt check for updates and the app store basically doesnt know it was installed from there.
My phone is synced with both a Google account and an Exchange account. I have contacts on both and can see them find in "Contacts" application.
However, when I use Google Voice Search (the little microphone on home screen) and say Call Bob or Send Text to Bob, it does not work. In the stock ICS rom, it used to do random stuff like searching web for a random business. I've since flashed Houstonn's JB ROM. Now I see that my voice command is transcribed perfectly i.e. when I say Call Bob Buster, I see the text "Call Bob Buster", but it just says Contact not found and gives me a link to "find contact". If I use that link and type in Bob Buster, it finds the contact.
So, the transcribing is perfect, plain text search works, but they using voice search to dial does not work. What gives? Same thing happens with Google Contacts and Exchange Contacts.
Any one else encounter this? Any workarounds? Thanks in advance.
Voice Control Works
Sorry to reply to my own post, but after I posted the above, It hit me that I should try another voice assistant that uses Google Voice Search engine/api. So I tried the Voice Control (Test). I've tried it in the past with stock ICS ROM without much success. However, in the JB ROM, it works great for almost all my contacts. So, it appears that the voice search engine is greatly improved in JB, but the the app/interface is some how broken.
I guess I'll go pay $1.99 to buy the full version of Voice Control.
EDIT: --Further Info--
First, I just figured out that there is an "Edit" button on this forum, so didn't have to make a new reply. Sorry about that.
I guess I was on a roll. After posting above, it occurred to me that there is an "offline voice engine" in JB. So I made sure that the offline data is downloaded and turned off wifi and mobile data. Voice Control just plain stopped saying no network available. May be it wasn't using the API properly. But here is the surprising part. I can now call many of my contacts with the call command just fine now (Google Voice Search).
So, I've tested turning data back on and same old problem of "can not find contact". I've repeated this 2-3 times. Same contact can be called when I am offline (no data), but not if I am connected. I guess Google is doing something funky when I am online?
Google Search Update Feb 13
The Google Search update on Feb 13 appears to have mostly fixed this issue. I am at 50-60% success rate in dialing my contacts. But the contacts it previously transcribed correctly, but couldn't find in my contacts are now being transcribed incorrectly. Oh well, I guess it is a step in the right direction.

Just curious, but when you hit the mic button, then tap the menu button for settings, there should be an option to check phone search. Select phone search and see what options are checked off. Make sure contacts is ticked and anything else you want search to look through. If you've already done this, my bad!

Thanks for the pointer. I didn't know about the settings option after hitting the mic button. All the proper things including the Contacts are selected for search.

You may want to try Google Now instead of just voice search. If you're on ICS there are a couple hacked versions around. If back on JB, it's probably already installed. Make sure it's on/active. I've been getting pretty good search results with it (including contacts) and I'm on Slick ROM v6.

I haven't noticed this with Gmail. I'm not using Outlook or Twitter.
I get it with Outlook and Twitter. Had the same issue in my Pixel 2.

Same here. Gmail is fine, but Outlook's notification sound stutters and it is very annoying. I went into google play and left a comment on it. This could be an app problem, an oreo problem, or a samsung problem (or all of the above).

Ah, that may be explainable. In Gmail's settings, there's an entry labeled "Inbox notifications." Make sure it's set to Notify once, and not Notify for every message. If you choose every message, and get two emails at once, it will try to notify you twice at virtually the same time. I don't know if Outlook or Twitter have the same option.
I have it set to notify once
Hi All,
Did anyone find a way to solve this issue?

I had this problem with my S7 Edge, although it began after I installed a modded ROM. Gmail is the only app that gave me problems though. I never found a solution. Hope someone figures it out.
Had the same issue, noticed some people noted that secret folder might be the issue if u had the app in there too. I just uninstalled secret folder and the problem dissapeared, at least in gmail If u don't use Secret folder just delete that app, save the space
Known issue with outlook app and Microsoft still is not able to fix it on Oreo

Have you tried going into notifications for the ap ? Gmail has options to turn off sound alerts. This should stop the double alert sound.
I'm using the Mood text app and have individual notification sounds for different people. It's been working fine for about a month. Yesterday, these dual alerts started where the sound associated with that person sounds but then so does my global notification sound. It's definitely two sounds for every one text and it's very annoying. I didn't change any settings in the app or globally. I'm pretty sure the only change I made to my phone in that general timeframe was installing Words with Friends. Texts are the only app I get notifications for, so I have no idea if other apps would have the same issue.
ETA: Today I learned my calendar notifications also double alert.
Look under accessibility and then notification reminder if it’s on turn it off that work for me
