The only reason you'd need the stock kernel is if you needed to flash it back for some reason. For example, you flashed an insecure kernel to root the phone, or flashed a custom kernel. But then you wanted to flash the stock kernel back.
Otherwise, you don't really need it. The stock firmware has the stock kernel packaged inside of it.

grrrr why is this so hard... i cant even extract the firmware because the password is incorrect, i'm going to go bald before my time at this rate lol
when i click on the links to download from multiupload it either downloads i-livid or directs me to deposit files and i get the message "This file does not exist, the access to the following file is limited or it has been removed due to infringement of copyright. "
all i need is the official stock for S2 locked to orange UK, an insecure kernal to root the phone, unlock it, then put the secure kernal back.... it sounds so simple but it's proven not the case

Where did you download the firmware from? They should have supplied a password with on the download page. Alternatively, you can look on sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com. I was able to find BVKJ4 on both those sites.
EDIT to add: also, multiupload has been shut down for some time now by the DOJ and FBI.

ok worked it out if you hover over the region it tells you, only problem i want 2.3.5/6 and there isn't one for Orange UK
this might sounds like a stupid question, but i want to use giffgaff (o2 network), could i just flash o2 stuff onto phone or would it still be locked to orange?

Why are you downgrading to GB to do a SIM unlock?
A quick Google search for "i9100 unlock sim" yielded:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507472
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360174
and many, many more pages. None of them say to downgrade to GB.
EDIT to add: in fact, there are two apps for SIM unlocking the Galaxy SII on the Play Store: one from Chainfire, and one from Helroz. Both are free.

I have tried both of those apps and both failed, phone was rooted with ICS but the codes weren't found, as i have failed to unlock it myself i took it to two different shops to unlock, both failed to unlock my phone and suggested that i should downgrade back to GB and try again to see if it works, tbh i really dont know what to do next which is why i thought i'd try to unlock from GB.
like i said i really have no idea what to do next so any tips would be great, thanks

[Q] I9100P unlocking messed up my phone!!
Hello all i'm new here and have a problem. I have a Sgs2 I9100P on Orange (uk) and i took it to a shop to unlock. When i got home and turned the phone on it said I9100 where as before it used to say I9100P. Also the OS was now back to gingerbread but i had upgraded to ICS before i took it to be unlocked. So i thought ok ill upgrade back to ICS through kies like i did before. When i tried to upgrade kies just says it cant do anything to the phone. Its like it doesnt recognise the firmware. The guy at the shop seemed to having difficulty unlocking the phone and he did have to flash it. He did manage to unlock it but i think he has put the wrong firmware on the phone. I have managed to find a stock ICS orange network firmware for the I9100P and was thinking to flash that firmware with Odin. I have never flashed my phone but have read some tutorials and it seems straight forward. So basically do you experts think it would work and would the phone still be unlocked? If you need more information i should be able to provide. Thank you in advance for any advise anyone can give.
Yes flash orange bvlp6 for gt-i9100p though odin and you will be fine and the phone should still be sim unlocked .l unlocked my phone on GB and now updated to ics and still unlocked dude Sent from my GT-I9100P using xda premium

**** This has become a huge problem for me too. I've used the i9100 for a year. At the beginning unlocked it, and tried hundreds of ROMS (CM,MIUI...), and never had a problem with Network Lock. Before selling it(ebay), I updated it to 4.0.4(unbranded) and send it. BAM! The buyer told me it had a Simlock... Uh :silly:??? I told him not to worry, and bought an IMEI Unlock code for him. He said didn't work, I couldn't believe it, but it is so. Now I have again my SGS2 here, with the symptoms: - Compilation LPW - Network Locked - Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz does not work. - Chainfire's method finds the same Unlock Code that I bought for 9€. But they don't work!:crying: I will flash a 4.0.3 ROM and see what I can do. Let u know. Cheers.

got the i9100 version or think thats it, not sure if its factory unlocked but it is now, when will it be available as at the moment you have to root and have a bootloader or something, so confused aha, thanks
I don't understand a word of what you're saying to be honest.. You're looking for official JB for the UK? In that case a simple search-and-read-combination would have shown you the available rom is from Spain but is flashable with Odin, also in the UK. Sent from the Matrix

Only unbranded and O2 phones are factory unlocked. If you cant work out your phone model theres not much hope. You dont need root to use stock roms. If you cant wait for UK unbranded official JB then use that Spanish one, or flash the LSJ leak using Odin as Ive found it flawless.
