Heya all, I've got AOKP on my sgs on tmo, and I'm now gonna be spending a few months in an area with crap t-mo service. I love AOKP, so I was wondering if anyone knows if any of the existing Wifi calling addons, such as the ones for the sgs II would work with the sgs III
I'm also gonna need this, where I work I have to have wi-fi calling unfortunately.

Google Voice

Any other option besides Google Voice? The great part about Wifi is it is our number, right? (I do not know I am asking, because if so that would be cool)
Also, I wish Google would just let us use that voice dial thing like in Gmail where you just dial numbers and it works. I am guessing stupid US carriers specifically told Google not to allow that. It would be too easy. I myself don't want to futz around with Google Voice...yet...

I really need help with this one. I just bought an ATT Samsung galaxy note i717 to use with simple mobile. Unfortunately, simple mobile data speed is so slow that I decided to go with Straight Talk. I got the Straight Talk sim card last night and immediately pop it in my galaxy note. Signal strength look excellent, call quality was also great.
My excitement ended when I decided to set up my data through the APN. Unfortunately, when I open the APN tab, ATT appears but when I try editing so as to make the necessary changes, the APN cannot be edited!! I have tried everything and now am at a lost! I have called ST and they say it should work since infact my phone is an ATT phone. This phone is also unlocked. When I place the simple mobile sim card in the phone, I can definitely edit T-Mobile in the APN settings. I called Samsung Customer service, and was told that Straight Talk is not part of their support network.
Please people, I really need help configuring this problem. Any help out there will be highly appreciated!!

What happens if you hit the menu button ? Do you have the option to ADD APN ?

Instead of editing.....MAKE A NEW ONE...lol
Do a search for ST or Straight Talk in the Note threads. I seem to remember reading something about the proxy needs to be deleted. Anyway, I think your answer is here. Just search some. Good luck.
EDIT: Here, I found something that might help. Try the second post suggestion, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630402.
Im alsothinking about making the switch to straight talk. The speeds for SIMPLE MOBILE throttle from 6 Mbps to 120 Kbps on download speeds. Its truly not consistent. I got the SAUROM ROM with the Tmo_SGH_T989_VKL1_radio_ATTNOTE.zip tmobile modem at first. I called simple mobile and told them y the hell is my speeds to damn slow. As usual, they give the run around. So I to think it was the modem. So I change from GB to ICS and had the same result from different radio bands. I just purchase this sim card yesterday. On the 05/02/12. So I will be paying attention to this thread for answers.

I have been running my i717 note on straight talk for the past month or so and am loving it. Had an Infuse before that. I am getting great speeds. All I did was add a new APN and then put the dot next to it once done.
I had tried simple mobile before though on a G2x but it was just horrid on speed. I tested the phone on the SM sim and an actual t-mobile sim. Difference in day and night. The SM one was actually faster if you forced edge speed!
Samsung Galaxy Note i717 Data Setup Problem on Straight Talk
Thanks so much guys for all of you advice. I was able add a new APN and it all workout. Infact I am currently enjoying 4G speed with clear reception on my i717 galaxy note since infact I am on ATT network. Super fast speed people! Simple mobile network was giving edge speed. ST is way better. Thanks again people.

Your Sim will come with a pink card/insert with everything you need to know... My little brother just took my inspire over to straight talk and he has no complaints.

The instructions are printed on the card the SIM comes with. You can also find it on http://www.straighttalksim.com/support.php click on the Phone Programming tab.

Why would you get kicked off? Do you mean for excessive data usage?
I've been on it for a couple of weeks, no problems here. But, I don't use a lot of data either. I try to stay on wifi when possible.
here are links for the modems

Guys, running a T-Mobile Galaxy SII and find the wifi calling a great thing. I'm on the $30 unlimited data and text and 100 minutes of call. Fallen in lust with a Note. Wife has international version but limited to 2G on T-Mobile. I'm thinking of an AT&T unlocked and T-Mobile radio. For anyone who has gone down that route, can they say if wifi calling is available?
Thanks

grooveIP doesn't work for you?
Never even heard of groove IP before. Thanks, just checking it out now.
So I originally had my SGS 2 with Tmobile but I recently unlocked it and switched over to ATT (Don't ask). Since then I have been unable to obtain any internet access at all except WIFI. Would anyone with knowledge of this please way in on this topic! I can do everything else but I have no internet at all.
Thank you for considering this and responding if you do. I know it takes your time away from something else.

T-mobile USA SGS 2 is the SGH-T989. This is the forum for the i9100. Two totally different phones.
Also, the T989 uses different frequencies than what ATT uses... Even if you do get it running, I don't think you'll be able to get better than Edge for mobile data speeds. From what I hear, you MIGHT be able to flash a different modem to use ATT's network optimally, but I can't guarantee that.
EDIT: actually, after a few minutes research, maybe you won't need to flash any modems. Likely, you may just be missing your APN settings. Check your APNs. If they're missing, google what they should be for ATT, and enter them. You'll want the wap.cingular one.

here you go, someone already made a tutorial for you
If you get a T-Mobile version of Samsung Galaxy Note (original), and sim unlock it, can you use it on AT&T network? How would be data speed? Edge only?
Re: [Q] Is it possible to use T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&T, Voice and Data?
Its only possible for those who take the time to search and educate themselves.
You will probably not like my statement, but I mean it in the most professional manner.
Just a basic Google search of using tmobile note on att network gives lots of help.

Really? I just did "a basic Google search of using tmobile note on att network" and guess what? Instead of getting "lots of help" I got NOTHING of that sort. Lots of reviews and such, oh yeah, there's something about using att note on tmoble network, just the opoosite of what I want to do.
Mods, please close the thread.
Re: [Q] Is it possible to use T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&T, Voice and Data?
Yes, you can sim unlock and use an ATT sim....however, you will only get Edge.

Here, let me break it down for you.
All those pages you mentioned (35 pages) about using att note on tmobile all say the same thing:
Unlock phone.
Flash t-mobile radio
Input APN
You want the same thing, but opposite networks:
Unlock phone
Flash at&t radio
Input APN
My apologies. Since you were a member of a development forum I thought you could piece things together. Maybe in the future, let people know you're not very knowledgeable. Everyone here gives very explicit help for newbies.
Why not head over to the t-mobile note forum. I looked over there and probably 1 out of 5 posts in the Q and A was your Q.
Id trade you my att galaxy note for your tmobile one.
I hate having to have a data plan, with the tmobile version I could stick to talk and text. Also this way you wouldnt have the hassle of getting data working.
let me know,I can send pics and stuff.I would also be willing to send first since im kinda new here and cang be vouched for yet.

I wish there was an exchange so members could trade for the best phone. Good idea.
Thank you to all the geniuses on this board for all the help.
I promise I have searched and lurked forever, and I fear this is a stupid question, but here's what I THINK I understand:
1) The only way to have tmo wifi calling is on a stock TW T879 rom
2) There isn't a JB stock TW rom for a ROOTED Note
3) I can't quite change my i717 into a NON-rooted T879
Basically I LOVE my Note. However, I MUST have wifi calling at my house because otherwise I have NO service. I also seem to have an issue that if I haven't recently killed tasks and I have under 100m of available memory incoming and outgoing calls have no audio in either direction.
So, do the recent Tmo OTA updates improve the memory affecting calls issue? If so, can I get them on my i717 while still retaining wifi calling?
My phone constantly requests doing the OTA update but it always fails. Even using Kies it fails. I worked with Tmo and they eventually sent me to Samsung, who eventually told me to go to a Best Buy.
I've rooted a few phones, but just barely, and always with a wonderful post from this board as directions.
Again, I'm sorry to waste your time, and I feel like I should be able to figure this one out, but I've failed for a few weeks now, so I'd like to request some help.
I have often donated to helpful people on here...
Thank you again,
Siegel

Look up GrooveIP on the Play Store. It uses google voice and it integrates itself in the default phone app.
I have it and it works great.
That does look super cool, but that would mean porting my number to Google Voice and I'm under contract with Tmo...
Google Voice isn't a carrier so you're not porting it to them. GV is more like call forwarding.
It is possible to install a tmobile note rom on a i717.

They give you your own entirely seperate voice number to use with Voice.
I use Google voice so when I call someone n don't want them to have my original number they see my gv number works great if u don't want ur girlfriend to see who ur texting if she so happens to see the bill lol

Vonage costs money
T-Mobile Wifi is included in the contract.
It's free to call people.
Whether that's good enough and if voip is acceptable to you (it's not for me because of delay) is a personal decision.
