Where are photos and videos stored? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone please tell me where I can find the photos and videos so I can import them to HDD? I am runing stock rooted rom, connecting to Win7 64bit PC. It detects the phone as a mobile device, but when I browse the phone and jum in to DCIM where I'd expect to see the data, it's empty. Unplugging the phone, I can see the files using the gallery app. So the images are there somewhere.
Help greatly appreciated. I'm running low on space and still haven't received my 32GB card.

are these images that were ALREADY on the phone?
pictures you have taken?
you should know the folder that they are in, and it only takes a couple more clicks of the mouse to open folders on the SD card and find them...lol
try the folders called, Pictures, Videos, Ringtones and what not.

Sounds stupid, I know, but the problem is that it seems the device is moving and storing all my pics and videos to /data/media/dcim/camera. And I can't access this folder from my PC. Not in portable media player mode, at least.

so use the file explorer on your phone and create another folder on the root of the SD and move them there. then see if your comp can see them.

Whats strange is that it shows the "sdcard" when I am using the stock internal mem. I don't have any SD in there yet. I suppose it's picking up the internal memory as SD, but for whatever reason the memory size seems to be constantly changing. I'll try that and see what happens.

Yes the internel Memory comes up as SD Card.
your external would be Ext card under the Mnt Folder.

I'll keep that in mind. I ended up using Android Commander to go to the folder and just pulled the files from there. Wish there were some way to mount the internal as USB drive.

Videos/Pix on SD preview fail

let me know if yall are seeing the same behavior...
I can take a video or picture and place it on my external SD card, then the preview(thumbnail) shows are error in my library. if i click on the picture or video, all is well and i can view it. then if i move the media to the internal memory, i have the preview with no errors.
im wondering if its the read speed from the external SD card, or the quality of card im using :/ just curious. i kinda like keeping media stuff (music, videos, pix) on the External SD card and leaving my phones memory free. but i also like having previews.

Are you moving this video/picture after you take it? Like take the picture/video, then move it with like esfilexplorer? Or even get on you PC and move it by hand? I believe that if you do that you would be moving the location of the thumbnail. I noticed that there is a separate folder for thumbnails, so when you move a file it could mess that location up. I hope that isn't too confusing.

sry for the late reply
i moved them by hand. i saved pictures from my EVO onto my SD card, and unless i move the pictures into the internal memory i will have no preview. i guess the phone creates thumbnails for pictures and videos placed inside the phone but does not create them for externally mounted pictures on a SD card.

Media Scanner not working?

Anyone else having issues getting the media scanner to find videos and music? I have the files on the usbstorage but the media scanner is not picking them up.
Try rebooting, thats what I did and it worked.
Having the same problem, if I go into File Manager, I can see the music, but in the media player, they don't show!
No one have any ideas? I've gone as far as to format my sd card, reload all my files and still only showing a fraction of the total music! Gonna try to move the music to the internal memory and see if that helps!
Still didn't work, put the sd card back into my atrix , and everything loads fine! This is really weird! I even installed player pro, and it too only finds the same songs as the default player. I hope a genius comes in with the answer soon !

My media scanner picks up the files on an SD card but not on the internal storage. Is this now a widespread issue?

Is there a .nomedia file on the root of your internal storage?
Ok so for my issue, I moved everything off the card and backed up on my PC. Then Formatted the card again but this time I didn't do the quick format. It took about 10 mins but after, put the card in the phone, let the directories build. Then connected USB mass Storage mode, and moved all my files back. 15mins later, I have all my music and videos!

Nope.
I guess I can try a format of the usbStorage.
Formatted usbStorage, nothing.
I then put a video file in the /sdcard folder and not the subfolders. Now the video application picks it up. Any idea what may be wrong with the subfolders?
Is there an update/fix to this issue? Are all AT&T units affected?
delettin .nomedia

[Q] Music Files and folders

Having a problem here and I hope someone can help.
Problem 1:
I have the Sandisk 64GB SD card. I have copied all my music to it. For the most part everything is fine. The strange thing is that it doesn't report all my songs. I did a search and the names are coming up strangely.
For example: What reports on my computer is "Strange Eyes.MP3". What reports on my phone when I search using My Files or look at the file with ES File Explorer is "Strange Eyes.MP3e.MP3". Some files are also changing to .mp3p. That's just what I have found so far.
Problem 2:
The other strange thing that if I read the SD card on my computer while it is in the phone it only shows the folders of my music up to the J's. If I use a SD card reader, I can see only up to the J's. If I use My Files or ES File Explorer I can see them all. This makes it extremely hard to copy the songs. For the one song I was able to fix (see below) I used Dropbox. BTW, I did try breaking up the music into folders like A2F, J2O, etc.
Other info:
Now, all the files look fine. All the tags, file names, etc. they are all MP3's that I had ripped from my own CD. I fixed one of the songs by going into (I know) iTunes and converting it to a MP3 (which it already was) and copied that file over. Now the phone sees it. There are a total of 4,167 songs and my phone is only seeing 4,087+1.
I originally had not formatted the card from when I had gotten it and had this issue, so I reformatted in the phone and still it persists. My old phone had no problems reading the music. It was a Thrill 4G.
Does anyone have any ideas on either of these issues? Thanks in advance.

This is the exact same problem I'm having also with a SanDisk 64 gb card, files with weird extensions that I can't change and files, folders not showing up in Windows. I have no clue how to fix it but I was hoping that reformatting the card in the phone would work but it looks like it didn't for you. All the files worked fine with my Infuse but with a 32 gb card. Hope someone knows what's up with this.
I took my old 32GB card from my thrill and copied my music to it. Put it in my GS3 and it has no issues with any of the music.
The difference (besides size) is it is formatted Fat32. I'll format my 64GB card at work today to Fat32 and see if I have the same issues.
Stay tuned Tryptonite.

Cool, let me know how it goes and I'll end up doing the same thing when I get back from work.
Formatted my card on a Mac at work to Fat.
Copied all my music to it with the SD card reader.
Checked on my PC. Shows as Fat32 and sees all the folders.
Checked on my phone. Sees all the folders when plugged into my computer.
As of right now everything is 100%.
You may loose a little space because of the allocation size, but it's worth it is it works.
Go for it.
Thanks, I was thinking I would need to return the card. One less thing to worry about.
No problem. I hope other see this that may have the same issues.

Pics on SD card all TINY

Ok so tonight, I decided to clean up my SD card. I had noticed that some how I had 1500 pics on my internal SD card, SO I moved them over to my external one and cleaned everything up a bit, combining all the folders. Now when I go into my phone and SD card, all the pics are TINY in size. LIke if the pic before was the size of the screen, now its 1x1 inch. I use wallpaper wizzadrii to set my wallpapers and its setting them all for TINY as well.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
you probably copied the thumbnails
I did now what?

If you deleted the actual pictures and are just now stuck with the thumbnails try an app called DiskDigger. It'll find your deleted photos if it was just recently done. It won't go as far back as a PC would. But give it a shot. Oh yea, must be rooted for it I believe.

I wouldn't use an android app, I'd connect the phone to a PC, mount it, then use Recuva to scan it.

going to try that now.
Also, I just realized that all the pics were on my internal storage. I know I never set it up that way. I have always put them on my SD card. For future reference, how do i get everything to be automatically saved to the external SD card?
You mentioned that you cleaned up the images by copying them from your internal SD to your external one - if what you're trying doesn't work, do you remember which folder the files came from? You can just move them back but I have a sinking feeling that you're going to go to your Gallery and when you review your images, you'll see a bunch of white boxes with and 'x' inside which indicates that you're missing the image that was where it was supposed to be when the Gallery accessed your photos. I did something similar a while ago, trying to consolidate photos into a folder on my SD and when I moved the files, I had the white boxes I mentioned. The fastest way to fix the issue is to move ALL images off your SD, go to Gallery, erase ALL, then mount the SD card onto the PC and move images back onto the SD, go to Gallery, and let the thumbnails regenerate.
It's a pain but if you do this once, you'll not do it by accident again. Android does something similar to Apple's iTunes. You can have files in several folders and the program will 'find them' for you but if you move them, you can cause yourself quite a headache.
Good luck!

The app I posted works fine, I've used it before. It looks for only photos whole recuva will find any file ever...
For setting it to external SD that's an option in the camera
Another program you can try is testdisk. It's free and it has recovered everything I've ever needed and then some. I've accessed files on a drive that both windows and OS X told me was not formatted. Got all 450gb off of it and could also retrieve tons of deleted files. It's a computer app, not a phone app.

[Q] CamScanner says SD Card is full, when its not

I have a Galaxy Note SGH-i717M on stock rooted ICS 4.0.4. I use CamScanner (version 2.1.1.20130425) a lot. I've used it so much that now it keeps popping up an error that says "SD Card is full" whenever I open it. Recently I scanned a large amount of documents in batch mode. Most of the pages got processed, but a few are left stuck with an hourglass icon overlayed on the pages. I have emailed IntSig (the company who makes CamScanner) and have not received any response, despite being a premium user. This is why I'm here asking for help.
I checked my storage and I have:
Internal Storage: 540MB/1.97GB Available
USB Storage: 0.00B/10.84GB Available
SD card: 19.42GB/29.71GB Available
So it looks like CamScanner is calling my "USB storage" an sd card. I identified the location of CamScanner files in /mnt/sdcard/CamScanner/ (this is not the sd card, despite the name). And I know that the sd card is actually on /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/
I looked through all of CamScanner's settings and there is no where you can specify where it should save files, unfortunately. I would much rather have had CamScanner store its files on my 32gb micro sd card on /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/CamScanner than occupy the very little space I have on the usable internal storage (USB Storage) on the phone
I've had to delete apps on my internal storage to try and get CamScanner to complete its batch processing (so that I can eventually make PDFs of the processed images). Now I have run out of apps to delete on my internal storage. Is there anything that can be done about this? I would like to use CamScanner without deleting more apps every time I scan things. Is there a way to force CamScanner to use my microsd?
Thanks
I use camscanner too. The problem is that the app does much more than save the scan somewhere. It needs room for manipulating the scan. But seriously....your usb memory is completely full? That can't be 100% apps. There has got to be something stored there that you could move to the external sd card. Not to mention without any free usb memory, I am not sure that the phone with all its features and misc apps will not function properly.

I've moved all the apps that live on internal storage to the sd card using app2sd with the exception of 3-4 apps that I need widgets for on the homescreen. Other apps that cannot be moved to the sd card, that I don't need, I have uninstalled already. The rest of the internal space is being occupied by CamScanner and its files to the tune of 5GB+. So it's mostly CamScanner that is now occupying all my internal storage space now (10.84 GB usable internal storage).
I do not want it occupying the majority of my internal storage space anymore. I don't see an end to me using CamScanner ever because it is so useful to me, so the storage occupied by CamScanner will only grow over time. Short of the developers responding to my emails about changing the location and it all working out, I have to figure out something else in the mean time. And yes, I also fear about the other apps not working properly with 0.00 B internal storage left
This is why I'm asking if its possible to move where CamScanner puts its files from, say, /mnt/sdcard/CamScanner to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/CamScanner using whatever mechanisms possible. Is this possible? Do you know how to do it?
Why not just make a folder on the real sd card called camscanner and move the files there yourself? Once the files are scanned and converted to pdf then there is no sense that they remain in the original folder. Use a file manager on the phone or use your pc to simply move them.
