Do you have Siyah kernel installed? There is a feature of Siyah that inverts the color palette by clicking the home key 4 times.

Nope..darkknight v1.9.1

According to the DarkKnight thread first post, it also has toggle MDNIE negative effect with home button.
Ctomgee is right, this is what's causing your 'problem' (unless you're using a build from months & months ago when this feature wasn't included).
Edit - Fixed link (it's 3am).

I didn't realize any other kernels implemented this, thanks MistahBungle!

It's obviously a Siyah ripoff if it has that feature (which begs the question; Why is it in 'Original' Android development ? But that's a question for another day/time/thread).

Ah thank you..so that toggle would be found in the recovery mode I assume?

Read that first line of my post that you quoted again. Slowly. The hint is in there. Or you can read the first page of the DarkKnight thread, which I would have thought you'd do if you were using that kernel. I guess people don't do that anymore.
Also read the last 6 words of Ctomgee's initial reply to you.

[Q] Make buttons stay on with backlight

Is there a way to have the 3 hardware "buttons" stay on anytime the backlight is on? I switch between devices often and it can be a pain to remember which button is which at night.
This question comes up often. Please do a search.

This seems to allow a full range of screen brightness adjustment but doesn't seem to offer any option to keep the buttons turned on when the screen is on.

I am on streakdroid 1.9 and when i have that option checked + setting the brightness in that app, the buttons do stay on for me
Anyone else have an idea? I flashed streakdroid 1.9 just to see if the above suggestion worked. Still no go.

Quit quibbling about that... what is a forum for?
I run a Corvette forum and don't jump someone for asking the same questions, especially new members. After awhile the new members figure out how to search...
You also must press the set button.

Still no go. Used both the brightness and the timeout set buttons. Button backlight only stays on for about 5 seconds.
same here.....
At first I didn't like the light not staying on either, however after about a week, it was pretty easy to remember which the 3 buttons are and where... even in the dark. Now I don't mind at all.
Tip... touch lightly anywhere on that side and it lights up.

No I'm saying your post was useless and didn't help answer the question as is this one.

screen inverted / negative mode - randomly?

Anyone had this problem?
Randomly I'll wake my phone and it'll be in negative mode (where all the colours are inverted). I can fix it back selecting negative mode, then going back to normal, but it's very annoying!
Many thanks
Maybe you're using Siyah kernel and pressing the home button four times.

How annoying. Thank you
Hi, I was wondering if it could be disabled ?

Of course you can. Just read the thread or search into it.
In ExTweaks you can disable it.

Inverted colors all over :l

Hey guys, was just reading about the sudden death issue on our phone when i pulled mine out and was aghast to see that all the colors were inverted across all parts of the screen (no matter what app i used)
I did a reboot and it sprung back to normal like nothing happened. phones never been dropped.
What mightve happened?
16gb sgs3
omega rom v34 siyah kernel
Nova Launcher Prime
my emmc revision is vulnerable if that is relevant
you pressed your home button 4 times ..... try it now the same will happen
Under settings find Accessibility and under that is "Negative colors" that you probably switched on

[Q] Why do I get the stock android lockscreen randomly? Exploit maybe?

For some reason the stock android lockscreen comes on randomly for no given reason. Figured I'd post it here just for the fact maybe it could be some kind of exploit allowing stock android to run as opposed to the Samsung firmware without tripping knox. The phone is on MK2. It happens mostly after setting the phone down, a blue light will flash then about a second later the lockscreen pops up for about 2 or 3 seconds. Can't use it, but it displays correct info pertaining to my phone. Just something interesting I believe could be looked more in to unless it's already been covered.

Are you being serious or is this a joke?
Check out "Motions and Gestures" in your settings and do a little research about your phone. It can do some pretty cool things.

It has nothing to do with motions or gestures so yes I am being serious. Also why does it have a live wallpaper. I'm not new to this stuff I know what's normal and what isn't. If it's nothing just tell me so and I'll just ignore or tell me why it's doing it. That was my original question, not how do I enable motion and Gestures. It will also do it if the phone is just sitting there without being touched. It just comes on for no reason.

I saw somebody post the same thing you did in the Note 2 forums awhile back, it can be confusing if you didn't know about the feature.
