Not all apps restoring with TB - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hello everyone,
I just got my S3 yesterday and have already rooted it and attempted to use Titanium Backup (TB). I was able to successfully restored a couple of apps, but the bulk of my apps wont restore. When restoring I am not receiving any errors, and it appears as it is processing/restoring them correctly, but when it finishes it says (it does say Restore complete), the apps do not appear in my app draw and in TB they have a line struck through them (typically means that it sees the backup information but it is not installed on the phone).
Anyone have any ideas?
Im on Sprint 16gb S3 and am coming from rooted OG Evo. I use the Root method found here
Thanks for your time and help

Maybe they are not compatible with ICS?

Did you try rebooting your phone?

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I have tried rebooting my phone and still no luck. I came from CM9 on the EVO so there shouldnt be a problem with ICS (unless there is something that I dont know). Thanks though.
I did download one app and it was a lot of steps but was able to restore the data for that app. I am going to see if I can find the files for my sideloaded apps and restore the data that way.
If anyone else has any idea why this isnt working in the first place I would love to hear about it. thanks

Did you try manually restoring the apps? Titanium backup won't mix old data with a new version of the app or vice versa. If an app updated and you have old data backed up with the app, you would have to manually restore the app if I remember correctly.

Thanks. I tried but it wont let me manually restore them. When i click on the app, the option to manually restore is not there (it happens both when I have or havent manually downloaded the app). I can see that it still says that the current rom/phone is my Evo. So i am wondering if that has to do with it....just really strange. wondering what i did wrong.

Check out titanium backups website and Check the troubleshooting page. I think it talks about transfering apps from different phones.

Question about Restoring with Titanium Backup

I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.
Thanks for the help. You guys on here have been lifesavers.
Hi,
Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.
Anything else you need help with?
Nope. Thanks man. I just needed a few things cleared up before I went ahead and wiped my ext. You were a great help.
No problem, glad to have helped
you say it saves system settings...
so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom
i tried mybackup pro a long time ago and it didn't do this which is why i don't waste my time with that app. (that may be changed now, it's been about 8 months)
would I be able to Restore my backup if I have flashed a new rom without problems?
I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?
check at the new version, it has an alternative restore mode that you need to enable for it to work on the galaxy s
Another restore question
I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
Similar problem with no luck at reinstalling Att apps. I accidently deleted google talk and now cannot download new apps.
I have a similar question to the OP.
If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?
I have titanium backup stored in sdcard, this backup is settings/wallpaper, is possible to extract from this file only wallpaper, without restoring all backup to the phone??
My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.
Any help appreciated.
Thx

It's restores my apps great. Very happy about it. But when you have installed ur apps back.
When I go to the android market they are not listed in my apps.
Though when i go and look for the app in the store it says installed. Yet can't check the allow automatic update checkbox.
Hope I make sense???
So I can't update it basically???Or when there is an update it will show up in my apps ???

When I go into TB app, it doesnt show what I copied over. SHows I have no apps in memory... I made sure to copy everything into the "Titanium Backup" folder in my SD card. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.
OK thanks. Will try it out.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?

Titanium Backup restore problems...

I was trying to do a restore with Titanium Backup to restore apps and data and everything in the batch list is greyed out with a line through it.. what gives?? So, I am unable to restore any apps. I am using the pro version, so I don't see what I paid for.
Can someone enlighten me on this. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to download something else?
thanks.
I believe you have to install the app first, idk but i did that with skype and got my data back

Greyed out with a line through them items are the apps that are not currently installed.
If you click on them, it should give you an option to restore, providing that you have backed them up before, of course.
Also, in batch mode, you can restore them all -or chosen ones- at once.
Did you expect to just open the app and your phone go back to the way it was before?
i have the same problem
it restored just few of them automatically
i believe i have to manually install the rest and then restore just the data
but isn't that stupid?
Has anyone found a way around that?
the developer said something about fixing the market link with market doctor option, but that's in the paid version
I spoke to the dev about it actually and he said there seems to be an error with my TBU, so I need to re-install and erase the backup folder and try and backup everything again and verify. I had to redo everything manually.
Thanks for the help though guys. I appreciate it..
I actually just removed TimeScape and a bunch of other useless (to me) stock apps. I did notice as well when I clicked on a greyed-out item that I had uninstalled, there was no restore button.
So I would have to manually restore everything I had backed up, delete the folder, and reinstall?
Hardly seems worth it. I would just reflash if/when I have to restore.
Is there any way to restore all applications with "one click restore"?
I'm getting tired of pressing accept-done for every applications.

yes...buy pro version
I am moving from a TB to the GIII, and am seeing the same issue. Only my installed apps are greyed out. I've copied a new one over, put the card in the other phone backed up and no change. Pretty strange. Time for a little googling...

[Q] Titanium Backup Pro Restore Fail

I flashed CM7 Nightly Build 20 this morning and found out that it messed up my phone, so I odined back to stock, rerooted my phone and reflashed nightly build 17 which had been working on my phone. When I batch restored my missing apps with data (I made sure not to restore system apps) with Titanium Backup Pro it said that it restored everything but a lot of my apps are missing their data. I have tried restoring some of the missing data individually but TB says that it failed each time I try to restore any apps or data that way. Help!
Ur backup is corrupt I think?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
I'm worried you might be right. The only reason I have any hope that it isn't corrupt is that I have TB set to store 3 backups and the one before my previous backup used to work fine and now it doesn't. I've tried searching but haven't found a solution yet.
tb does have a verify backup. U have to make sure u use that every once in a while so if it is corrupt u catch it. good luck

That's the weird thing, I made my most recent backup this morning and then verified it and everything said it was fine.
The same thing is happening to me using #22, data restore is not working.
Even for the same rom, if i back an app+data, uninstall it, and the try to restore it i always get "data restore failed"...
Please tell me if you can solve this, i'll do the same

maybe because the build 20 cant mount SD
Titanium backup new update... it works now. They messed up with the last one for sure
Thanks for all of your responses. I just downloaded the latest update to TB and I am able to restore once more. Thankfully I now have everything back to normal.

[Q] What to change for google play store to auto-download apps from previous rom?

I'm using the PKMN Rom right now. When a new version comes out, I would like for it to auto-download the apps from the play store that I used to have. Is there something I have to change in the new rom to do that? A build.prop edit? Thanks in advance.
Titanium backup is your friend.
I came across a file
In the Rom zip try deleting sq-lopt
It's in /system/ect/init.d/
This would require a reflash tho
Joel could correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah, I have TiBu. But, it'd be nice if it auto-downloads after registering my g-account. Just wondering if it was a little mod I could do myself. That's all.

Thanks SCP! I will try this on the next PKMN update.
I've never gotten my Rezound to restore its apps or its wifi networks. I've also noticed that after a wipe, during the setup process, its asks you if you want to keep your device's networks and settings backed up with Google, but does not give you the option to restore your phone from Google like my Eris and my Transformers do... Has HTC just omitted this functionality??
Gingerbread did that for me but not ics. But I don't mind. Don't like it to auto download anyway.

I don't really think it's a good idea to restore from TB.
Although I paid for TB last year, I don't even bother installing it anymore.
When I flash a new rom I find it is MUCH better to reinstall an app from an APk than to restore it. I now use AppMonster Pro to save the APK from all the apps i use to a folder on my card and then clean install them on the new rom.....
The only times I have had it auto download was by signing into google during setup wizard.

Hm, I had a totally different experience. I had about 220 user apps installed. I did a batch backup with Ti Backup, and then a batch restore with data. I think there were seriously one or two apps that I had trouble with. I just wiped the data on those apps and set them up manually.
I guess I don't really see what the fuss is. Now I tend to just install apps from the Market so I get the latest version, and restore data on the few apps that I require lengthy setup.
I also tend to keep archives of my Ti Backup folders, because there are some times I need to go back to an old version of an app because of some crappy update.
I've done batch restore with data with Ti Backup with 200+ apps multiple times with virtually no issues. Some examples of apps I try to install clean are LBE Privacy Guard and Busybox Installer.
Maybe people are restoring system apps?
I always restore lots of different data and apps with tb and have no problem... Just don't restore something in red on system apps lol

Restoring Android ID with TiBu

I could really use some help here guys. Normally when I clean flash a new rom, download TiBu, and open it for the first time, it asks me to restore my previous Android ID. I always do then restore all of my apps. No problem.
I just flashed CM 10.2 today (coming from Jelly Beans B6), downloaded TiBu, and open it, but it's not asking to restore my previous Android ID. Now I can't restore any of my apps via TiBu. When I go to TiBu options and try to manually restore my Android ID, it's not finding one. The only thing that's different with my flash today is that my sdcard died recently, but I'm not sure how that would impact this? I really need some help. Thanks in advance, guys!

No luck. TiBu can find all of my backups, it just won't restore the apps because (I'm assuming) the Android ID is different. I can't figure out why it isn't asking to restore my old Android ID.

I used to get the same thing in tibu but haven't for awhile now. I think you're ok. Do you have Google back up your phone too. I think it's getting the id from there.

I did try restoring TiBu's data only, however, that didn't have any effect regarding the Android ID. TiBu still hangs when restoring (just stays at 0%).
I reflashed Jelly Beans B6 (did not restore a nandroid) since I was previously on that rom. TiBu still didn't ask to restore my Android ID, however, I was able to restore all of my apps without TiBu hanging (so at least I didn't lose everything). My understanding is that this seems like two issues 1. TiBu isn't asking to restore my Android ID anymore (on any rom) and 2. CM 10.2 isn't gelling with TiBu's restore without restoring the previous Android ID. They could be related though. Like I mentioned above, my sdcard died recently and I haven't replaced it yet. Maybe TiBu backs up my Android ID to the sdcard?
When I get a minute I'm going to see if I can't flash CM 10.2, manually restore my current Android ID that works with TiBu's restore (from Jelly Beans B6), and then see if restoring with TiBu will work then. In the meantime, I'm still interested if anyone has any other ideas or similar experiences.
Just for completeness, I'll update my findings in case anyone has this issue in the future and happens upon this thread.
Two things were contributing to my initial complaint...
1. TiBu DOES auto-sync its own setting to your sdcard, so after a wipe/flash it pulls the old Android ID from that save. As I mentioned in my first post, my sdcard died recently and had not yet been replaced which is why TiBu wasn't asking to restore my old Android ID. In TiBu under Preferences, there's an option to 'Auto-sync TB settings' which uses the sdcard. This is checked by default when you install TiBu and have an sdcard. When my sdcard died, this setting automatically unchecked itself. I found out you actually can re-check this setting without an sdcard and it will back up your Android ID somewhere, however you obviously have to re-check it manually.
2. Android 4.3 builds seem to have a common issue with restoring TiBu backups where the restore hangs at 0%. After I correct #1 above and restored my Android ID, TiBu was STILL hanging at 0% on restore. Looking around the web, it seems like there's a few different work-arounds. The one that worked for me was changing the backup folder location in TiBu to 'legacy' (TiBu > Backup folder location).
Two separate issues. Pretty confusing. Hopefully this can help someone down the road.
Try restoring in smaller batches instead of all at once. Like apps A thru F, reboot and select the next batch, etc.
