Sickening! I know Google has been trying to stay out of this but they need to step it up and fight back. Time to take off the gloves.

Instead of using its resources to develop their products, Apple chooses to put out essentially the same phone year after year and attack Android for surpassing them. Apple should just pick up its ball and go home.

Wow... Just wow. I'm glad I have an Android phone right now. They may be out of phones soon. Google won't be able to sell any of them.
The ONLY good I see from this is it will force Google to innovate, and completely reinvent the OS from the bottom up. It could prove revolutionary someday.

Apple really isnt doing anything but hurting themselves! They are getting alot of negative PR from all this patent crap. I hope this comes back to bite them ten fold!! I will continue my apple boycott....

This is good in my eyes..hopefully a patent disaster is what it will take for the reform the patent system.desperately needs..until then apple is playing by the rules..even if the rules suck..until its fixed they will continue to add to their ip arsenal

I don't understand this patent and how much reach it has yet. It seems almost harmless from some of those images. Most apps I use and have seen aren't like that, at least not EXACTLY. So how similar can it be before Apple sues? I think that answer will determine how impactful this patent is on Android.

It depends how broadly a judge would interpret them..ie..we open the gallery and have a bunch of clickable jpgs..it may not look the same but I think its the idea or processes behind it that matter..its such bs..mobile patents are ridiculous..and this whole.thing is getting out of hand..apple is acting like a spoiled child ..had everything handed to them and cry when the gravy train ends..now they will have to work to stay competitive. Shows their true colors ..

Apple is trying to patent the gui. They're going after everybody including Microsoft. I hope their company crashes and burns. A lot of people and companies had a hand in making gui interfaces for computers. And the smartphone is a computer. I guess they want us all to go back to the command line if we don't own a mac.

Thanks for the link. Well if I read that correctly this may be the nail in the coffin for Android & everybody else. Those patents cover almost every smartphone on the market.

We need to look at the reality of their patent. It's a snapshot in time of a gui interface. Every item in their depiction can be replaced with a newer more flowing one.
Apple has built a box, patented it, now they have to live in it.
For example they don't own a patent on jpg. They cannot have patented a 3d gallery since it didn't exist, at filing time. They didn't patent multitouch since the hwd was not available at patent filing time ( assuming at least 3 years to granting). ( I guess I'm saying here that Apple only patents technology the plan to release, they are an applied R&D house, lol ).
So Apple has a 2d, single touch, non-intuitive gui of years back. Great.
Think of all the Android Innovation this patent will cause.
If I can think of at two new paradigms for mobile platforms, think of what others can design.
This patent may, just be the impetus for new items. Who does new well?

It seems like the only way for google to protect themselves is to go closed source and then sue apple for everything they infringe upon
