Just curious how many people are having issues with stock Google apps and the stock browser after the ota update. The Gmail and maps will get stuck on a white screen as does the stock browser and the play store will just lock up on whatever screen it was currently on. Google wallet will freeze during the unlocking your device notice. These are the only ones I have found so far but I had none of these issues before the ota update. A phone restart will fix it for a period of time but I'm currently having to restart my phone 2 times a day to get the apps to work properly again.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I also forgot to add that during the restart after the screen turns off you can will change the ring volume up and down and hear it change for 2-3 seconds before the phone actually does restart. I noticed this when I had my Bluetooth headset still connected and it was not telling me it was disconnected for at least 4-5 seconds after the screen turned off unlike before the update when it was no more than a second.

Mine does this as well, the only "fix" I have found for it is rebooting the phone. Then it works for a few days until it randomly decides to freeze again.
I was having the same problems where the browser will be a white screen and not work. I went twrp and wipe cache/dalvik cache and haven't had a problem since

I'm rooted and flashed the latest firmware, is there any way it can be undone

After the update! The stock browser doesn't highlight the the URL address when tapped like before...Instead we have to manually delete the URL to search something else or press the little X after tapping on the URL.
Wtf!? Yeah count me in too. I just did a restart and it didn't fix problem. Gwallet still in notification bar saying initializing.

Also been having the same problem since updating, most noticable with the browser just being a white screen. Tried wiping cache & dalvik cache again, doesn't seem to help. Stock ROM with S-OFF. Surprised I haven't seen more mentions of this problem, but perhaps it's not widespread?
Well as I've learned over my time at xda updates are always catch 22's. That's why I choose to wait and read users feedback on how the latest ota is functioning. However none if this is revelant to your issues just figured I'd post it for future reference. Also have you guys tried a full wipe of your current rom? After you make a backup of your data of course to see if that will help ??

Yeah...I was having the same problem after the ota, but after a couple of reboots things started to work right.
Im having this too, is getting very annoying. Sometimes i just want to use the phone quickly for something and have to re-start the phone... I feel like breaking it against the floor.

I too am having the same issue. Play and browser all fail to respond. Wiped cache etc. Still repeats each time.

I wound up here after searching for this error, which just started with me yesterday with the browser (stock). It just displays a white screen when I try to use it.
I've had the latest update (flashed with 1.22.651.3 odexed ROM from xHausx and firmware from Captain Throwback) about a week now and this just started happening yesterday.
Yesterday I somehow got it to work again by clearing the Internet cache and then I performed a search from the Google search bar and all was well. I was thinking at the time that it was stuck on a particular page and that this got around it. But that fix isn't working for me today, so I'm going to try to clear dalvik/cache from twrp as recommended here and see where that gets me.
It's good to know I'm not the only one though... I wonder if there's anything else more specific we all have in common since we seem to be a fairly small subset. Maybe we all flashed the Odexed update for example?
EDITED TO ADD: Appears to affect Gmail too. And possibly several other Google apps as mentioned here and in other threads. Since there was a Gmail update I did yesterday, I'm going to try to uninstall that as mentioned in this other thread I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810829

NOT helpful at all since it affects not only the stock browser but other Google apps as well.
Refer back to my original post which I updated with additional information.
I've found if I reboot and never use the stock browser I don't have the white screen problem. I set maxthon as the default and act like the stock browser doesn't exist.

I reverted back to the previous version of Gmail yesterday hoping that would fix the problem but it still happened. This morning when I clicked an email notification from my status bar, Gmail did the white screen thing and needed to be shut down manually. Just to verify that this and the browser incident were related, I tried to launch the stock browser and it too was white screen.
So those of you suggesting to install an alternate browser to get around this issue need to understand that this is a lot more widespread than the browser alone. For me, both my Gmail and Google Offers were white screens this morning upon trying to launch them so it definitely appears to affect all Google apps.
Yeah this happens to me as well. Its really bad now. Nothing fixes. It does it on all the roms with newer OTA for me. Only two roms will work for me without this problem. I have tried everything. Wiped everything, Reflashed, Checked my sd card, factory reset, you name it. It even does it on restored roms that didn't have the problem before. I don't know what to do....
A developer told me to try and manual flash boot.img through fastboot but I'm not even sure how to do that. Need to read up on it.
I have had the issue to wear when I am trying to open the browser app, it will actually freeze the entire phone until I hit the home button repeatedly in play store will not load anything until I fully restart the phone I've tried fixing for missions do a nandroid restore nothing seems to work

But this is what is happening, I don't know what to write more. It just shows 8 emails of inbox, I cant scroll, open or do anything with these. Only way to leave Gmail App is to click home button. Sometimes even that is not working. From time to time it looks like it refresh whole screen from left to right with same 8 emails. The phone is top part near camera becoming hotter during this. I am running official 2.3.4 GB.
First check if process Gapps is running or not.. Then..
Try resetting Gmail... Go to settings-> Apps -> all -> Gmail.. then clear cache/clear data... Launch Gmail again...
I've got pretty much the same problem on my S2, though it behaves a little bit different; the left to right refresh/animation is going totally crazy and when I try to leave the application using the home key it almost always opens itself again. Sometimes it doesn't refresh like crazy, instead the Gmail UI is totally unresponsive. I am running a CF-rooted stock 2.3.5 ROM (XWKI8).
EDIT: I've tried resetting Gmail, it didn't make any difference at all..
So, I am not alone. Hope someone will help. Cleared all cache and data settings, all the same. Even was taking battery of the phone for 10 mins - no result.
Is any other Google Apps running ok??. Can you sign onto gtalk properly?
What about YouTube.. Google reader etc... I am asking because.. Some background services need to be running properly for Google apps
Very very strange, my phone has started having this very issue as of today, too.
I've tried deleting the app's data, resets, battery removal, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the app (rooted).
I have no idea where to go from here, so I've since frozen the app..
Edit: Might be a known issue now:
http://lifehacker.com/5895595/gmail...oid-for-many-heres-how-to-get-your-email-back
I'm having exactly the same issue. Started yesterday.
Could be related to the fact that the Google search app was updated yesterday? Or the fact that I changed my Google password. Other Google apps fine
having this exact same issue, dont know what happened, been completely fine before yesterday :S
edit: im on a Nexus S but this post came when searching for a solution.

Try goin in to recovery and do fix permissions and then reboot and see if that fixes your problem hope that helps

Mine just started doing something similar about two hours ago. It will flicker when I try to open an email or scroll down. Plus, I can't back out. I have to hit the home button to exit. Re-installing multiple times and wiping cache from recover didn't help either.
It has something to do with YouTube believe it or not. Go to your YouTube app and uninstall it. Wipe caches and reboot. You can go back to the market and download the YouTube app but don't log in or you will get the same thing.

This morning bug also got on my evo, unrooted, stock ROM.
We are not alone, also on other phones happening the same. Looks like it has to be a google issue and big G responded already - they are working on the issue and fixing it.

That's odd! I just tried mine and my gmail works flawlessly...that sux for those having this issue though
haha.
mine did this today, so i uninstalled it. Kept crashing the phone.
Nice i was not alone with it, I was blaming the custom rom.
thats crazy there....never seen mine do that here ever...scrolling side to side like that over and over would drive me nuts.
Finally gmail started to work again on my device, after 15 hours.

I have no issues yet, but that's good that Google acknowledged it and are working on a fix.
I'm on rooted stock (latest OTA) and every few days all of my google apps will stop responding (Maps, Wallet, search, etc.). I can open them, but they never get to the main screen of the app (just a blank screen). Rebooting it solves the issue. I haven't noticed any correlation with other apps running. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I've finally got my phone the way I like it and I'd hate to hard reset if I don't have to.
Thanks!
I just noticed my gmail did that this morning. It might be because of the recent app update. Either way, it's only happened to me once so far, so keeping my fingers crossed.
I've done a reset to fix this and it did.....for a while but now it's back. I have to reboot or Google apps won't open fully, they just hang.
I have the same issue with Gmail, navigation and sometimes the web browser. A reboot fixes the hang but who wants to do that all the time.
+1
I am having the same issues. Reboot fixes it.
+1 pretty sure it was the gmail update. I uninstalled and it seems to be working fine again.

Try getting the logcat for the event. You can use "alogcat" from market. Search on how to use logcat ( it's color coded for obvious events). Magic bit ( "self" changing) events are more difficult. "Autostarts" from market will let you see your spinlocks, so if any unrelated app has the screen or some other resource then you've got the cause.
Uninstalling the gmail updates had no effect. Happened 3 times in the last 24 hours. Getting very frustrating.

I have the same issue as well with gmail loading to a white screen. I've tried doing a force stop but that didn't help, which made no sence when a reboot fixes it.
Mine started doing this too, only started about a week ago. I always have to reboot too, very annoying.

Are you using a custom launcher? I was using Apex launcher and it worked awesome for the longest time. Recently my gapps started locking up as well so I uninstalled Apex and haven't had a lockup since. I did NOT reboot after uninstalling Apex, and the issue has cleared up.... Give it a shot if you're using a custom launcher.
I am running the stock with the OTA update (no custom ROM or root) and I'm seeing this as well. Good thing is, this has nothing to do with your custom ROMs. Bad thing is, this is a real issue that seem to be affecting everyone!

Just do as huludical has said here. So far this is the only fix that has been working. Something with the Wallet fix in the OTA starting screwing up the way many other Google apps communicate with their servers. By disabling/uninstalling Wallet and clearing the data/cache for Google Services Framework and then a quick reboot and the issue is no more.
Granted, this means, that once again we are unable to use Wallet but that's a small price to pay when the alternative is having Gmail, Maps, Chrome etc etc freezing up every day or so.
Is there an update to this situation? I am UN rooted and this is happening to me
All -
I've searched XDA for anybody potentially having the same issue and haven't found any. So either I'm using the wrong search terms or I have a unique problem...
Since I got my Evo LTE, quite frequently when I go to use GMail or the google search widget (which opens regular Internet app), they're unresponsive. Same goes for Play store - I can hit "my apps". Play store will load the main first screen - but when I click "My Apps" then actually select any of my apps - white screen, unresponsive. So it appears that all apps having anything to do with Google are hosed. I can open any other browser and it will work fine. I can open any other email client and it will work fine. I've tried force closing things, etc - nothing works but a reset. And occasionally that doesn't even work - and requires a second reset.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
This is an issue that many people have been experiencing. I have been having the same issue. From what I have read on here (yes, there is a topic already) rebooting seems to work for a awhile. Not sure if Google plans on fixing it as of right now. It's been like this since the last update about 2 weeks ago.
If you uninstall the updates, it should fix it till they update the gapps.

It happens a lot for me with Play Store, but nothing else really too much.

I'm rooted but, as yet, stock ROM... I've removed nothing, frozen a few (but then thawed thinking that may have been the issue - didn't help). I can honestly say I've tried pretty much everything. I'm considering a different ROM at this point just to see if that clears up the issue.

check if you've installed any apps that prompt the auto shut-off of your phone
previously I had this problem before by then I realized it's due to the installation of one of my fault apps.

first of all,i think this is happening because of any new app,try to remember when it was started(maybe that time you installed any app and now that app shutting down mobile? or just go to task manger and clear each app that was running and also clean memory. if problem is gone and its occur again after rebooting mobile its maybe a Rom Bug,you need to change your Rom,but before doing that try to clear apps through task manger. and see what happens
i hope that helps you
Well first of all ...

Thanks for the replies guys ok, here are some more info and observations.
I was originally using CyanogenMod 9.1 when this happened. At first, I tried wiping cache and dalvik cache. But it was still the same. After a few more shut downs, it got worse. It got to the point that it shuts down after the boot animation. So, I used Clockwork Mod to revert me back to rooted stock ROM. It's not as worse as CM9, but I still get shut down. Now, here are the observations I made:
1. This only happens when my phone is unplugged. It works fine otherwise.
2. This consistently happens when I connect to the Internet, for example via a browser, didn't matter whether it was Chrome or Dolphin. Offline reading via RSS or Pocket is fine. I opened FB unplugged and I got shut down as well, so I guess it's safe to say that connecting to the Internet triggers it. When accessing the Internet while unplugged, shutdown is immediate and imminent. Plugged, I can surf just fine.
3. It also gets triggered when I play a game, but my shutting down is not immediate, unlike the one above. I am playing only one game at the moment (Great Big War Game). And I am able to play a long while before getting shut down (around 30 mins)
It wasn't like this a couple of days ago, and I didn't install anything new outside Google Play updates, this is not counting the two logcat apps I installed this morning to try to diagnose the problem.
Is there a way for me to find out what's wrong via the logcat?

maybe its a cache problem of your Browser,so try to clear cache of your Browser and if its not working Flash a new stable Rom( i recommend you Sweet Rom,find it on XDA,its very stable and smooth)
and flash that rom with Hydracore kernel.
hope that helps you
have a nice day
Hi thanks for the additional info. It seems that you have the issue persisting on a stock Rom?
Have you tried to wipe on a safe kernel (if on ics)?

Guys, just a quick update. I sent it off to the service center (reverted to stock and hid all traces of being rooted). They reflashed the phone (they say it's their standard practice to do that before considering hardware defects) but the problem still didn't go away. So, I think my issue is hardware-related
This problem is not software related. It is most definitely hardware. The phone is flawed and shuts off on it's own under various conditions, all hardware related. I am not able to post externally due to not having enough posts yet. However, I have had the same issue on 3 Galaxy Note 2's from Verizon. I made a video that shows exactly what is going on and posted it on the following website...
wwwDOTgalaxynote2shutsoffDOTcom
You will have to paste that link in to a new browser and replace the DOTs accordingly to get to it, but once you see the video, you will be enlightened. Be sure to read the details I provided on that site as well. They go in to detail about the problems that I have had and the lack of proper support that Samsung is willing to provide.
Take a look at the video I made here if you can't get to that site: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjLn2yikYnI
