[Q] Fix Permissions? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is probably a simple question, but how do you run fix permissions on the Fascinate? I can't seem to get it to work through recovery (Voodoo, CWM, or Devil) or ROM Manager.
Thanks

That doesn't work though. I've tried pretty much every recovery, cwm, voodoo kernel, devil kernel, all of them take 1 second to fix permissions and the fix permission log is empty, so they're not really doing anything. Fix permissions through rom manager just hangs. I know all the usual ways to run fix permissions, but none of them work...

CWM recovery?

I can't seem to get to the CWM recovery, only the default Android recovery, which is preventing me from installing custom ROMs. My phone is rooted, and I've installed ROM manager, flashed CWM from it, and tried opening CWM recovery from ROM Manager, and by the button press method. No matter what I do, I end up at the default recovery screen.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I guess the font wasn't big enough on the sticky that says DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER ON THIS PHONE!

After root with DooMLoRD_v4, how can I install CWM Recovery?

So the subject explain pretty well the thing here.
Well, the thing is I rooted my SGS2 (i9100) with DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su and now I have no idea how to install CWM. I've seen a few guides and non serves to me.
Can anyone show me a working guide for me in this case?
Thank you.
If you want permanent reco and root, just flash another kernel.

Dude I have no idea what you just wrote. Of course I have a permanent root. My question is how can I install CWM Recovery.
Could you at least answer trying to solve something? Sorry, I don't want to look mean, but what you wrote it's like read something invisible.
Best regards.

Dude. His answer, though somewhat cryptic if you don't know what he means, is actually correct.
Recovery is tied to the kernel. Because you used DooMLoRD to root, you are still on a stock kernel, which will have stock recovery.
So if you want CWM recovery, you will have to flash a kernel that has it built in. (CF-root is the most commonly used)
If you don't want to do that, (flash a new kernel) then you will have to live with stock recovery upon booting into recovery, but you can always just keep a copy of the CWM recovery .zip file on your SD card, but you'd have to install it each time from stock recovery to get it to load.

CWM ROM manager keeps crashing and freezing after cy9 flash

Hi, I have been trying to figure this out for hours.
I flashed cyanogen mod 9 using rom manager from my stock rooted 19300. All went smoothly but now with cyanogenmod 9 Rom manager is really temperamental and keeps not responding when I try to use it.
Anyone any help? Please go easy with the tech terms I am a total beginner.
I also noted cyanogen mod 9 has no file explorer but I found root manager seems to do the trick. Took me a while to figure that out aswell.
Cool ROM though!:good:
Hope someone can help me out.
don't use rom manager, allegedly it's buggy. also, why ICS? we now live in a JB world

It was my first flash. I thought it was fairly new? How do I get JB? Where can I find the ROM file?
Thanks for the reply
So clockwork rom Manager seems to be ok now.
But another issue thats really bugging me is that CW rom manager won't recognise my ext sd card.!
Anyone any ideas
same answer, don't use it. find roms in the roms section

Ok cheers, So what would you recommend I use instead for backing up ROM's etc. CWM just makes things so easy for installing ROM's from the phone. Is there another app that will do this.
On cyanogemod 9 CWM seems to be a system app also. So cant really go delete it.

Use the recovery menu. What you are doing is not ment to be easy. You have to understand what you are doing or you will end up in an unhappy place now that your warranty is voided.

Never had warranty in the first place. Have to learn somehow so no point being afraid of it. So what your saying is use cwm manually so to speak instead of backing up roms and flashing new rom through the app?

Yes. Rom manager has caused issues as long as i can remember, to the point that even some devs advice not to use it at all.

Yep CWM recovery as it states on the tin CWM Manager is no longer updated or supported .

Im kind of confused. Is cwm recovery not rom manager? Do i have rom manager or cwm recovery
Im going to attach screen shots.
So is this what i should use? Or is it recommended to use something else.
If i shouldnt use it, what will happen if i delete it seen as it's a system app and what's a good replacement?

No Rom manager is not CWM recovery. It is an app that is supposed to work with the cwm recovery.
All the options you need are in recovery when you boot directly to recovery from the reboot menu.

You will need find what went wrong the ROM, try with escalation method:
1. It is likely that you undervolted/OCed too much, try to flash crpalmer's Kernel in order to reset values: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137293
2. Restore a nandroid.
3. Try to clean caches through recovery. if that doesnt work:
4. Try to dirty flash the Viper Rom, without the kernel, if it works try to flash the kernel. if that doesnt work:
5. If that doesnt work try wiping data and system, and reflash the Viper Rom. if that doesnt work:
6. RUU that damn thing. if that doesnt work:
7. come back here for more answers.
BTW - Calm down, it's probably soft-brick, 99% that one of the this methods will fix your phone

[Q] flashed bad kernel [solved]

Hi guys, help please!!

I am a complete novice.
I was trying to gain root access. but before that i had to install an insecure kernel, I think i chose a bad 1 as i don't know what im doing Kernel_I9100XWLP4_INSECURE.tar is the kernel and when it wont reboot, just shows the start up screen then goes blank, i then tried to install secure kernel Kernel_I9100XWLP4.tar to see if it would fix it but same problem.
Does any 1 fancy holding my hand through the stages to fix my phone please?

it was android 4.1.2
Okay first read what I wrote there earlier:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592225
And then tell me if u can get to recovery? Maybe your bad kernel still brought cwm on your phone, if so you can flash a new rom with good kernel via recovery.
It's also important which model of phone u have, international or something like that

Volume down is download mode.
Hold menu, power and volume up at the same time.
If you have a custom recovery (likw cwm ClockWorkMod) then you would be able to flash a dorimanx kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617219) I would download a 7.x version (newest) and flash it through cwm. Or, of course, if you want a different rom then flash the rom like Muthzer the One said.

superuser is something else then CWM. Superuser is often needed to give root access to apps.
When your in recovery, what does it say on the first line? Maybe Android recovery system or ClockWorkMod, something like that.

That means your not having a custom recovery.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617219
Scroll down to just above the download links until you find "In case of a new installation on a non rooted or non recovery device:"
Follow this. The kernel you need is 8.43 (download: http://dorimanx.shine.sk/)
