Changing Firmware - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hi all,
I bought a samsung galaxy s3 yesterday here in China, only to realize that MANY features are missing. This includes Google Play, S Voice and other features which was the original reason why I bought this phone. So I was wondering if there is ANY way of changing the firmware of the S3 to some other firmware which does have these features or is this simply impossible?
Here is some info:
Operator: China Mobile
Model Number: GT-i9300
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband Version: i9300ZNLF2
I hope that is enough info to answer the question.
I have read recently about 'rooting' but I'm unsure if this has anything to do with my problem...
Thank you! Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!
- Storm

you are in the wrong section man, this whole subfourm is for the us dual core lte variant of the s3s (i747) not the i9300, go to the i9300 sections http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563

[Q] What firmware can I get for my S2?

Hi guys, I've been browsing through this forum for awhile now, very helpful threads, you guys do an amazing job!
This is my first post and I would like some help.
I'm from Canada and I ordered my S2 from Newegg.ca, so my phone came factory unlocked and right now I'm running it on the Telus Network.
Samsung started releasing their firmware updates for the different regions, but I'm really confused on witch firmware to get.
I believe my phone is running on the UK firmware but I would like to use a North American firmware, here's the detail:
PDA: I9100XWKF3
Phone: I9100XXKE7
CSC: I9100XEUKD1
Would I be able to run any firmware from any region I want without damaging my phone?
And witch firmware is for the Canadian region?
Thanks in advance.
Anybody?
I'm a noob at this, never owned an android phone before.
So please guys, you'll make me really really happy
Any rom from Dev section 1 and section 2 will work , you got standard global unlocked SGS2.

Hi Ghost, thx for your reply.
I want to to know about actual firmware and not roms.
Can you please direct me to an actual firmware I can use for my SGS2?
and will I be able to use any firmware that's not the generic Europe+UK?

[Q] Chinese I9108 - Options?

Hi,
I have a new I9108 that I got as I use the China Mobile network for my work contract, I am having great difficulty finding a ROM for this model.
Everyone with Chinese SG S2 seems to have the i9100 version.
Basically, I just want to know if I am stuck with the standard ROM.. if this is the case I will sell the phone as it is so restricted, its frustrating.
Baseband is :I9108ZMKI5
Kernel : 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Any help will be appreciated, as there is very little reference to this model aywhere
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
can anyone tell me if this will be stock firmware?

[Q] S2 I9100P questions on rooting and ROMS

Hi all,
Long time HTC user taken the jump to the S2 - so far.. WHAT A HANDSET
I have some queries though. My S2 comes with the new NFC options built in and appears to be slightly different to the standard S2 ROM.
This is an Orange UK handset with the following:
Model Number: GT-I9100P
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: I9100PBVKI2
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.BVKI3
Can this be "safely" rooted (as much as any root is safe of course!
What ROMS are going to run with it properly? Will I need to use a different ROM than the ones the go on to the "standard" S2's?
I had no issues rooting and modding the living daylights out of the Desire but this version difference in the S2 makes me nervous... that and it's 3 days old LOL
Thanks guys & sorry for the noob-ness,
Moose
Yes it has been root Im not sure the root file is here. If I find the link I'll post for you. I saw it on a Dutch site as they have had this fone for a few months likewise France.
You could also dump the file by install HS-KTOOL from market and ask within the rooting forum if someone can be kind and make it for you.
Hi Nyssa - would it benefit members if I did the dump? If so I'll gladly do that if someone wants to do the "alterations" needed to it after...
Hi,
This can be closed/ignored as I am getting info via this thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408680&page=2
Thanks all!

[HELP] 1&1 Branded update and restore (DELETE PLEASE)

Dear members,
I would appreciate some help on the upgrade of my Samsung Galaxy i9100.
I became a member of this forum some years ago, when I was a windows mobile user. Having owned several PPC devices, I was used to flash custom roms.
Since I moved to Android, almost 2 years ago, I’ve never felt the need to do such process in my devices, since I have been happy with its performance. (Sony Ericsson X10 mini pro, Asus Transformer TF101).
A few months ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 from ebay. It’s a German branded 1&1 unit. The thing is, 1&1 haven’t released an update since 2.3.5 Gingerbread, and they have no prediction or confirmation if they ever will.
Given this, I decided to update it myself, to a non official ROM. So, I have some doubts in my mind:
- Can I flash any CSC, PDA or PHONE to my device, as long as it is for i9100?
- Can I combine different PDA, PHONE and CSC (for example, to have the Portuguese CSC)
The only source I found for my original matching firmware and kernel was from this guys: android-hilfe.de (I can't post a link...)
- Is this enough to retrieve my phone to original state in case I need to trigger warranty?
I’m not sure if I want an official Samsung Galaxy i9100 rom or a clean, pure google ICS experience. But I think I’d prefer the second. Any advice on this?
My current and original info:
Android version: 2.3.5
Model number: GT-I9100
Base band: I9100XXKI4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100BHKJ1-CL630390 [email protected] #2
Compilation number: GINGERBREAD.BHKJ1
PDA: I9100BHKJ1
PHONE: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I9100XEGKJ1
Build Info: Wed Oct 5 18:36:54 KST 2011
Thank you for your knowledge and time.

Only now I noticed that I 've posted on the wrong section.
Please moderator, can you move my topic to the correct Q&A section?
Thank you!

As long as it is a GT-i9100, you can flash any i9100 ROM.
By doing so, you would lose all 1&1 branding on the device.

Why didn't you buy the international note? It supports Chinese language interface.
I didn't think too much and thought it was a quick flash. Didn't do my research
Please tell me it's possible
The rom nearest to Taiwan would be the Singapore rom. Its ICS not JB. Its what I used last year. I'm betting it would have your language pac. Its listed as N7005 Novena rom by Nunhugger.

What model of i717 go you have? I have an international version N7000. Perhaps a trade.

bump for help ...
bbumpppp
you asked if you can flash a chinese rom on your i717. i717 is for the Northern American market, and so one will not expect to find an official rom that has built-in chinese support. and since it's different from the international GN (n7000) in terms of hardwares, n7000 roms from south-east asia won't install. some have suggested the i717 is very similar to the korean version of GN and those roms can swap with i717's, but you need to google it yourself. Your best bet is to look up chinese forums and get support from enthusiasts in that region, but we know that didn't go well. so there we go.
at the end of the day, I think you are barking up the wrong tree.
