Hey all,
Just want to know whether this is normal:
1) My max. RAM capacity shows 1.62GB (instead of 2GB)
2) Max storage capacity is 12.05GB (instead of 16GB)
Any info appreciated

The capacity is never quite what it's "rated" for and as for storage, you have to account for the OS as well.

Its 512MB.
It is 512MB
but 200MB or so are freely available I think.
Use Elixir, you will see the stock total is 402.1MB, and I get 150-180MB available as average.
yea!!!it is 512MB!!
venue ram
Full capacity all the 512MB.
But that is actually assigned capacity is 402MB,
Applications due to the use of the average level of available RAM is about 150 ~ 200MB.
I think the ROM is 1GB and RAM 512.
512mb yiup

What do you exactly mean by "assigned capacity"?
According to the specifications the ram in LG Optimus One is 512MB, but in my phone its showing up 419 MB is that a problem, or is that same for all?
It's normal. I heard that some of RAM is used for graphic card unit.

The difference is due to the difference in the calculation parameters. We take 1024 in calculation but the manufacturers takes 1000 as their calculation unit.
1024 * 8 = 8192
1000 * 8 = 8000
You might be thinking that this is not a big difference. The other factor is the file system information and files which are stored along
In the box it says 16GB, but when I check storage capacity in settings, it's only 11.0GB Where the hell did the 5GB go?

Partitions for user apps and data (2GB), for the system, a partition that the games hub uses, other partitions for cache, etc.
Its all there, just used by other parts of the phone. There are more threads that go into more detail if you search.
And before you ask, no you cant reparation to reclaim space.

Well, it's all right there in your phone.
First you start with the fact that they use decimal, not octal numeral system for GB. That means that 16.000.000 bytes is actually around 14.8 GB, the same thing happens when you buy hard disk which, lets say, has capacity of 250 GB, and actually you have 232 GB of hard drive space.
Next, 2GB is reserved for installing application, about 1 GB for system, caches and similar things. In the end you are left with about 11GB free space in internal memory.
Hahaha! okay, thanks for the explanation. I kinda thought the same, much like other memory drives, some part are allocated for system usage. But just curious about it.
Now i'm all okay with your answers Thanks!

Hi,
I put together a list of the actual usable internal storage of different phones so that we can compare and see which one has how much. This can be found on:

Let me know if you found it useful!

the 5gb is for system and format stuff (i think)

because 2,5 gb free of 8gb is still fine... as far as I remember on 8gb card its usually notifying when there is 200-300 mb free... the notification is rised where there is < 5% space free...

You mentioned Maximum storage size amounts to 128GB.
Does this mean the 32GB + Micro SD = 128GB?
Or the MicroSD max size is 128GB?
Anyone have tested a bigger SD card on this device?
Thanks
