When I'm sitting at my desk, my phone (Droid X2) will have 4-5 bars with 3g showing. I place a call, 3g goes away(as expected) and I get 1 bar and I lose calls... Why would it fall back to a weaker signal to place a voice call? I understand that data can voice can't happen at the same time on a CDMA signal... But this drastic a difference for calls?
Hi, how do you hold it? After having started to grab it higher and leave the lower part with the antenna out of my palm, it cured it's signal issues.
Best regards,
V
V you have the x2 confused with an iphone this phone will keep almost the exact same signal if you wrap it completely in both hands. This is a software issue that usually only happened on stock and confuses the hell out of verizon reps. I would recommend a SBF to 2.3.4 and then going with cm7/cm9 for a ROM

I actually did this today, and before I even posted. I'm on the CM9 RC1 Alpha 5...Love it, BTW.
I haven't done any build.prop mods yet. I'm fairly worried I'll break something as this is a alpha build.

No my office is in my home.

Try changing your mobile networks settings. See if a different setting of roaming changes the behavior. You might find you are roaming on data and picking up a nearby out of network 3g tower then when you go to voice it favors a more distant in-network tower. Also download the app OpenSignal and see what that tells you about local towers.
And switch from bars to text for your signal, a real number will tell you things a set of bars really can't

Return it and get another phone while you still can. If you read on here long enough you'll see the many problems that arise from this POS phone. If you are going to stay with it you will probably be forced into a custom ROM just to make it work right. Memory is one of the main culprits that keep this phone from performing well. Every other phone that has come out since then that has 1GB of memory or higher has either had an opportunity to get more updates or better performing custom ROMs.

I read an forum somewhere where people were calling tmobile and having added to their plan and so long as you have it added "officially" then minutes weren't debited from their plan. people with grandfathered plans won't be able to do this without losing their grandfathered plans. People were having better success adding this feature online with a live chat from tmobile, as some representatives had no idea what people were talking about while others added it with no problems. I guess it matters which rep your get. But there were many people conforming that once the feature was added they confirmed no minutes being debited in "my accounts" etc.

The way Wifi Caling works is that it uses the internet to send and receive both calls and txt(not MMS). So in theory this should work the same no matter where you are in the world. Now there have been reports of it working successfully and other reports where it was not. So for you I would simply goto a free wifi cafe and turn on Wifi, attach to that free wifi and then turn on wifi calling. If it connects then send a txt to verify it is connected. If it goes through then you will have txt and calling as if you were standing in the US. in theory that is.

With as laggy and bogged down as the phone is OOTB, it's one of the top performers on raw power. Once the bootloader is unlocked, the phone with a custom rom is going to be a monster. Also, when it is unlocked, you'd be kicking yourself nightly due to the many roms that will no doubt be released.

Actually, yes you can. Just verified for sure. While on the phone, hit home, you can then browse to your hearts content while ignoring the person you have on the phone. Any phone that can connect to a wireless network (not associated with cellular networks), you should be able to surf and talk regardless of the cellular provider.

I did it literally just to see if anything had changed since the last time I did it(Which was a genuine mistake when I first got the phone). Nothing has ever happened any time I have dialed *228. If it were to invalidate/fry/immolate/otherwise destroy my SIM, I have extras, as well as two back up phones. Yes and yes. I'm running Das Bamf 2.1. I really can't stress enough, though, that as far as I can tell, dialing *228 doesn't do ANYTHING either positive or negative other than give the message I posted earlier. I jumped into the testing menu and snooped around and it changes nothing. So unless there's some roaming setting on the network side that I can't see, there's nothing different.

That has zero effect on signal strength. It might effect data throughput but not signal strength.
I doubt official firmware will boost performance over stock sprint firmware we have now.

I use to get full five bars at home using GB, after updated to ICS (SuperSayain rom) I pretty much only getting 3 bars. What I did was in the mobile network setting, changed mode from auto to WCDMA only and so far i've been getting pretty much 5 bar most of the time with occasionally dropped down to 4. hope this works for you too.
I am also having this strange issue. So is reverting to GB the only way or can you just flash the gb radio? Anybody know anymore about this??
Same issue here. At home used to get full 5 bars, now 3 sometimes 4, which is fine as I am usually on WiFi anyway. Problem is I had great signal all throughout my daily commute to work to where there is sections of my drive that I have no signal. Before in that area it would revert to EDGE from 4G and mine is set to auto.
Just believe like everyone else mentioned that it is the ICS radio. Hopefully an update will fix it

No. And to the people talking about modems and odin and.. yea, no. We don't have modems to flash, and odin is just for samsung devices. Until now we couldn't flash a radio if we WANTED to.
You know the iPhone's fix when people were talking about how bad the signal was for the iPhone4? They had been boosting the REPORTED signal strength. So did HTC, so did Samsung, so did.. all of them. You'd drop a call when it showed you had GOOD signal.
Not a single person has posted about having ACTUAL worse issues. The OP said he can make calls and talks about how many bars.
Apple's opinion:
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars.

People here are having the OPPOSITE problem, it LOOKS like you should have an issue, and you don't.. but people keep posting about it even tho there hasn't been any issues.
This is the ONLY person who had actual signal issues(Weird Interference/Reception Call Issues on my Amaze) I have seen since ICS dropped, and it turned out to be a hair on the contact for the antennae. Read his thread, he methodically checked quality and could answer basic questions - and then he fixed the actual problem.
Edit: I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if someone is ACTUALLY having problems, they actually can't make calls, drop calls where they didn't before, etc.. then there is probably a problem that can be fixed. But unless you are having those issues it is likely that the signal strength you're seeing is more accurate(EXACTLY like the apple quote I put above), they are just doing a better job of SHOWING the actual signal. Which is good, no unexpected dropped calls or BS.

Don't know if that's the case because when I so connect its fast. Just as fast as the first day of the month. I do have the 5gb plan and have never hit it. Been close but never hit it. I'm going to call just in case. You do have a good point.
Do a speedtest. If its 60 kb/s and steady, or something similar, that's your issue
