Wifi roaming is aggressive - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

The phone is scanning for other networks every 5-6 sec. Can't help but think that's draining the battery.

[Q] Standby / Airplane mode battery consumption

I have been using X10 mini pro since the past 3 weeks.
After a few days of discharging cycles, I see a improvement in battery performance. I've already read about the tips section on battery improvement.
I manage to get about 11-12 hours of standby with wi-fi/bluetooth/background data off (No Music, no videos, screen off 90% of time). Screen timeout is set to 30 secs.
I have not installed any other software apart from Helix launcher & Advanced Task Killer.
I observed that when the cellphone is left in Airplane mode for over 10 hours, battery depletes by just 1-2 %.
However, if I leave the cellphone in GSM only mode, the battery loses from 100% to 10% in just about 9 hours with display set to lowest brightness
The signal strength is always between -57dbm to -90 dbm in my area.
I'm not able to understand what is eating up the battery.
Initially I suspected that I'm not on the latest firmware which could be using a lot of battery on cell standby. But I see that the build number is 1.1.A.0.8
Anyone thinks that this could be a GSM service provider issue?
When is the next firmware update coming?

That is true, I have experienced this. It is not the Service Provider issue, it is something related to signal reception. If you are on call for 1 Hr battery, drains by 20-30%, this is too much.
The worst part is short duration calls, everytime you call some one, battery reduces by 1-5%. To make matter even worse, you cannot replace the battery

[Q] Cell Standby Battery Usage on WiFi Flyer

I looked at my battery usage on my Wifi only flyer and noticed that cell standby was account for over 70% of my battery usage (there are different categories for WiFi usage). This does not make sense, anyone else noticing the same thing?

I had this too. Mine is a 3G version but I am WiFi a lot too. I am having some success with Juice Defender available in the market. I am using its tablet mode which when connected to WiFi disables the cell completely and has definitely helped with battery drain overall. I reckon I get 10-20% better battery life now overall.
Don't have that problem on my WiFi Flyer. In 8h 17m on battery, my display is 82%, wifi 7%tablet idle 4% Android os 3%, Dolphin HD 3%, bluetooth 1%. Still have 70% battery life. Haven't used it much today.
yup... just turn it to airplane mode... you can still use the wifi and no cell standby issues... also makes me wonder if the cell radios are in there and if there is a way to get them on a network

Why is my battery acting like this?

Normally overnight I lose 8-10% in battery power. However for the last 4nihhts I've lost 25-30%, looking at my stats the phone doesn't appear to be awake but all of a sudden it appears the drain increases
Please can someone advise
Thankd
if you switch off location and google search in location services you might get alot better battery life, it work for me, over night I would drop 10-20 % now its only 5%

Cell standby battery drain

Hi guys , this is my first post here.
I have a Alcatel Onetouch Idol 2S (6050Y) and it has terrible battery. I have tried almost every solution for Cell Standby on this forum but it did not work so I am posting my own thread. Problem is Cell Standby which uses around 30 - 50% of my battery and Phone Idle which uses 20-30%. I have disabled Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Sync, Data Connection, Location, Location History, Keep WiFi on during sleep mode is on only when plugged in, Scaning Always Available is disabled, there are no Device Administrators, Wakelock Detector does not show anything strange and almost everything that I don't need is disabled. I use 2G network only.
I disabled some bloatware using root to get more battery, from 11 PM to 8AM it drains around 4% in idle, which for me is pretty good, but everytime I turn on my WiFi and start going to Youtube or Google it starts heating up like crazy and I cannot hold it in my hand, and DU Battery Saver reports 40 degrees Celsius when Youtubing or on Chrome. The battery goes down really fast. GSMArena reports that my phone can be upgraded to Android 4.4 ( its 4.3 now ) but when I press System Updates nothing happens. I think I have a pretty good signal ( 89 dBm ) and every other android phone in my house does not have such problems other than mine.
GSMArena reports that my battery is supposed to have 2150mAh but DU Battery Saver reports a 1390 mAh battery capacity. What is going on in here ? App called Battery Monitor says that there are 2 states of battery capacity 2137 mAh and 1390 mAh. What do I do to repair my phone?
Bumping, please help guys

HELP| WIFI draining battery faster than cellular - Android 8.0 LG G6

Hi all,
My LG G6 started draining battery on wifi faster than on cellular ( which is weird).
It drains 30-40% of battery at night (around 8 hours) when on wifi, and the signal is perfect, cellular signal also good.
Even If I turn on flight mode and only leave wifi on it drains a lot.
Doesn't matter if it's 2.4G or 5G wifi, it doesn't matter which router, happens on all of them.
No app seems to be draining that power.
Other cellphones on the same wifi don't drain that much battery (a samsung S7 survives a week on wifi only mode).
Tried entering "SAFE MODE" for the night, nothing changed (means it's not some 3rd party app).
Any ideas ?
Update:
Just found out that my phone's wifi HOTSPOT is no longer working and it just turns off after 10 seconds. Hardware failure ?
Update2:
Hard reset fix the issue.
