Samsung Social Hub ??? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why there is no Social Hub in Samsung Galaxy S3 ? It comes with many Samsung phones as well as tablets.

I objected to it in the board meeting.

You don`t realy need it, install twitter/facebook and an email app and you`re done. Most of the hubs are battery hogs anyway.

For the contrary, we want Social Hub again because it uses push, so not only it saves data plan but battery!
The mail app for the contrary, do poll periodically the mail servers (I mean IMAP/POP servers)

I also vote for Social Hub on the S3. I'm running a background check to see why they (samsung) aborted the Seven Networks (Social Hub provider) collaboration.
I'm thinking of porting Social Hub from S2 to S3. What do you think?

I tried the social hub but gave up on it... I think it suffers from the same problem most other aggrrgstors in that it's not feature complete...
For instance I couldn't figure out how to post a picture to facebook
There's no facebook chat...
And I couldn't work out how to follow a new person in twitter....
All really basic omissions. FAIL

Glad you said that as saves me trying to use it
that sucks, wish it was better =(
Any alternatives? The friendstream in HTC Sense is fantastic! Moved over to CM7 but I've been struggling to find any decent alternatives I use Launcher Pro's widget but not as good as friendstream.
Agreed friendstream is excellent, I'm coming from a HD2 running Android with Sense and that's the one widget I'll miss the most I think so hope there's a decent alternative available. Once I have the phone I'll start looking but hopefully someone can recommend a good one so will be watching this closely
I'm loving TweetDeck at the moment. You can have Facebook and Twitter separated into columns or you can have them bundled together.
Mentions and notifications on Twitter and Facebook are also organised into one column and you can setup notification sounds etc. for each column.
Worth checking out considering it's free and I wouldn't go near the Twitter for Android app again.

do you have ANY idea how many messages i missed because i thot "o look fancy social app, im sure it'll beep when i have messages"...waiting..waiting...20 hours later my friends calls me pissed off "hey..its been 20 hours why didnt you reply to facebook message?"
But at the moment we stop using SocialHub we'll lose the contact social (updates/multimedia) as a side effect right?
If like of the only part of it you want is the contact integration then you only need the sns parts of the whole social hub. The rest you can remove or freeze with titanium backup.
I'm using Batista rom which doesn't have the social hub. I just added the sns stuff and then added the Facebook for social hub account under phone settings->accounts and sync. Then also just enable Facebook under your contacts display settings

Yep, that's how I use it, too. Keep the benefits and get rid of the crap.
Is there any way to hide some facebook friends? My facebook is organized by groups but the sns doesn't take this in consideration.

Works fine for me, don't know if it's better than the gmail app, but since i use hotmail, yahoo and gmail i work with social hub cause it incorporates all of them.
did you set up the email correctly? Only exchange (or imap-idle) supports push
who is your email provider?

Gmail is a good app but has few issues, for example attachment downloading, sending email takes longer sometimes and many more.
Social Hub is the only perfect email app in Android. i have used stock email in My HTC Hero and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, which was so annoying, used to freeze, used to bring up same emails several times as new emails.
I have also used DroidMail and K9Mail.
They has exact same issues as Stock email.
Social Hub is the only perfect email application for Android at the moment.
Android Email support is no where near Nokia messaging and Windows.
Android simply doesnt care about email app because of Gmail
Android support for multilanguages is also poor.

I second that. Its really annoying that I can't find an good email application, even on my Wave the stock bada email app was better. Anyway hope they will improve both GMail and Social Hub client asap.
Regards.

I have the Gmail v2.3.5 installed & it is working just fine.
Not sure but I seem to remember that you need to be rooted to install the blacked out version.

What do you mean by "blacked out" version? Pls explain in detail.
It's a modded version. Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191870&highlight=blacked
The OP was in fact referring to this modded version.
I also have 2.3.5 original installed in my unrooted SGS2 and of course this one works like a charm.

Baah! I saw the screen shots in that thread, and if the only difference between a "blacked out" gmail 2.3.5 and a normal gmail 2.3.5 is the inverted color of the background, then what's the fuss about? If you want black backround and grey text, then you already have that in Social Hub. Just access your gmail from Social Hub if you like the background to be black. What's the big deal
The hub is bloatware. It's buggy and less functional than the original app. I much prefer the white background gmail app than hub's email app, even considering the highest power drained by the white theme.
In addition, the original email app has push protocol that i like much, and better label/directory management!

I don't consider the Social Hub to be bloatware.....neither have I experienced any bugs in it. It's a useful tool for seeing all your email, sns & message streams in one place. Although I personally prefer other dedicated professional apps for my social networks, I use the Social Hub for all my various email accounts. It bifurcates the mails according to dates, which the gmail app does not.
Yes, apps like Yahoo finance, Readers Hub, Games Hub are definitely bloatware. To each his own. Cheers!
What I don't like of the email client of the Social hub is that it is the one included by default in android, which is not push type and every email I send with it, is wrongly reported by the client as being sent twice: the first correctly, and the second to a long list of duplicated addressees... In addition every email received is notified both in the hub and in the default email client, but clearing one notification does not automatically clear also the other so every email notification has to be cleared twice.
However I do reckon that's just my personal experience with it, so perhaps others more good than me at configuring it may not find it so bad.

Social Hub

I wish Samsung hadn't made their apps/widgets to magnified. they look terrible on the tab but social hub would be perfect as a widget that has all my social networks and email all in one place...
can anyone reskin this thing???

How do you install the Social Hub and Reader Hub on the Galaxy S3?

Almost every review I've read either doesn’t mention them period or says they’re not available but this review says:
"Apps like the Reader Hub for magazines and newspapers, and the Social Hub to unify social networking accounts and email had to be downloaded as an optional install."
How do you install them? Are they in the “S Suggest” or "Samsung Apps” applications?
I’ve yet to get an S3 but would miss Social Hub. Thanks in advance. Source: http://everythingexpress.wordpress.com/2012/05/15/review-samsung-galaxy-s3
Anyone? Thanks.
