I go into Settings > About Device > Software and click "Update" - and nothing happens. Nothing at all. No message saying "no update available", nothing.
It's a stock TAB 10.1, the only thing I did was root it. I haven't flashed any ROMs, themes or root-enabled apps.
I keep checking to see if ICS is ready for me yet - but I would at *least* expect that Update button to give me some sort of response (even if to say "nothing yet, nerd."), but it's as if nothing is happening.
Any ideas?

Excellent - thanks for the reply. I was hoping that was the deal, that there just wasn't an update. Sure would have been nifty for them to at least let me know that, instead of making me think the button/updater was broken with no feedback at all.
Thanks again. =)

Great, now you ruin my happiness. Does anyone know the direct APK/app that's being called when this button is clicked? Maybe I could try and run it directly?
Are there some other settings I should have enabled? (WiFi is on, of course)
Maybe it's because it is rooted.

Multiple reboots, and nothing. The Aboute Device > Software Update -- then clicking Update produces no response. I wonder what I broke. :-/ Any idea on how to try and find out what's going on? Is there some sort of logcat I can look at?

ICS is rolling out within the next month, and is currently underway. That's why I've been checking - but I used to get "no update available" message - nowadays, nothing -- even watching the WiFi noti icon, it's not sending anything when I click it.

Ever since I updated WWF after the TW update, I get an error connecting to the servers and can't play any games. I have tried a forced close and clearing cache. anyone else having problems with this? If so, does anyone have any solutions?
Thanks

I had to update in the market place to fix mine. Works perfect now.

I played last night and everything worked great, even got push notifications for the first time. WWF definitely needs a paid version for android to get rid of those annoying adds.
That and I can receive chat messages but I can't send them.

after doing the update from the market, i was able to send messages. I couldn't do anything without it FC or giving me network error message from the version that was loaded with Touchwiz.
How did you guys get the version from the market to update the TW version? When i go out to the Market "Open" is the only option I get.
when you go into settings>applications what version do you have installed? I am running 3.61
Mine shows up as 3.59. Funny thing is that the Market version says 3.61 but "open" is the only option I get.

Try clearing the cache for your market and see if it will come up
Mine is version 3.59 as well.
Same issue when I go to the market.
I just emailed the dev.
When are these adds going to be dealt with?

I removed my stock version and installed it again from the market. I pulled and zip the apk. Extract and install from from your sdcard.
I can't try it right now, but I will check it out later. Thanks for taking the time!

Naked, work was blocking the download. After getting impatient I tried logging into the Android market on my PC and forcing an install on my tablet. It worked like a charm! I am now running 3.61. I am testing it now, but I have yet to get an error.

Sweet, glad you got it working. Good idea on doing the web page market and forcing the upgrade. I'll keep that in mind in the future.
I have seen often programs not able to update properly when they are located /system/app. Since the it was part of the upgrade to TW, they have it located there.
The install from Market worked great for me as well.
Never knew you could do that.

TripleTapper, can you please explain more? Now do you "force install" from the market? It just tells me that my Nook Color is incompatible with the app, and the buttons are greyed out.
Thanks.
I just opened the Market using the browser on my PC. When I do that and search for Words for Friends I click on install. It then gives me an option to install onto my various Android devices by selecting it from a pull down. My Galaxy Tab comes up as Samsung GT-P7510.
Words has been working flawlessly now! : )

Thanks. Doesn't work on the Nook, unfortunately.
So, I finally rooted my phone yesterday.
Then, today, I start getting full-screen messages from AT&T saying that there's a software update and they want me to connect to WiFi to download right now. There's only a "next" button and no "cancel" button.
Is anyone else getting this nag screen? I've heard mixed reviews about this update (I presume 2.3.6) and I also read that I'll lose root if I update.
So, how do I kill the nag screen for good? And, if I go forward with the update, will my frozen and layed-over apps (apps I've loaded on top of frozen apps) stay as-is? Or will all the frozen stuff revert back to stock versions?
I did the root method on 2.3.4 that doesn't affect the counter or give any visual notifications, and I understand that rooting in 2.3.6 isn't as easy to do, so I'd rather stick with what I have no rather than go through the upgrade process. But the nag-screen keeps bugging me all day long!
Any info appreciated.
Thx.
I'm in a similar situation - I actually DID the 2.3.6 update, had terrible battery life, spoke to a CSR who said that rooting (in order to flash the previous 2.3.4 official firmware) would NOT void the warranty of my phone (i777). I followed the guide in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18576627#post18576627
Perfection -got my phone back to reasonable battery life, etc. etc. Here's the snag: went into a Barnes and Noble today where my phone automatically connected to the AT&T wifi hotspot and now my phone wants to force me into this update again! Blast it all!
To address your concern about going forward with the update - I would highly recommend not doing so. My battery life dropped like a stone on the update - I'm not talking about a slightly perceived decrease, I'm talking about 2.5 hours dropping me 40%.
To remove the update request, delete or freeze device manager. Do this if you wish to remain on UCKH7.
If you accept the OTA update to UCKK6 while rooted you will retain root.
Right or wrong, I froze Device Management through TiBu.
Edit: Not fast enough!

It's the 2.3.6 update that has been talked about here for a while now. Don't update it.
I have also seen the new prompt today. This is actually different from the first one that I was seeing about 3 weeks ago that said there was a new update and the only button was 'OK', this new one has a OK or Postpone. I selected Postpone and then was asked for how long 1,2,4,8 hours.
I have done the same as others and frozen Device Manager, however I am wondering what else this feature does. I would like to know if this will effect any other parts of my phone or just stop the OTA updates.
I had done the stock root a few weeks ago and had never seen anything about updates. Then I was reading about modems and thought I'd give the UCKH7 because I might have better call quality over the UCKH6.
Two days later, I'm at work and notice that my phone is getting warm in my pocket. I took it out only to find it was downloading something... after a little investigating I figured out it was an update and later was given the option to postpone. Knowing I better check it out on XDA before doing anything I postponed and then ended up freezing it with TiBu.
I guess this is an update specific to the UCKH7 modem.....
No, not just modem update. It's the whole update called UCKK6. Do a search and there are multiple problems with this new ROM.
DON'T do it unless you LIKE worse battery life, non-working BT HID devices and other quirks (some ppl have problem with phone calls using the new modem).
AT&T is obviously push the update to everyone now instead of the batch updates.
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> [All Tab] -> Device management -> Clear Data
That'll make it stop nagging you about the update until it goes out and checks again.
I have a rooted S2, and I 'checked for updates'
It said I can update my phone and the phone downloaded about 20 MB file by itself and asked for a restart to update the phone. I said yes, restarted the phone, but for some reason, it says, Update Failed.
You guys know the reason behind it?
Thank you
If you rooted and removed some bloatware, your update will likely fail. Why do you want to updat anyway after all the warnings?
You should have known that the minute you rooted your phone, you kiss good bye to official OTA updates. Sometime, it may work but most times it won't work.

You must be rooted.
The easiest way is to use Titanium Backup. If you don't have it, there is a free version as well as paid one. With the free version you can only delete, but with the paid version you can either delete or freeze any application. Install TiBu and then find device manager in the list.
If you want to do it manually, the file can be found in the system folder I believe. I don't remember exactly what it is called, however, and I don't have it on my phone to check.

No need to know the filename of the downloaded update. Simply clear the data on 'Device management' app will do.

Thank you. I've been looking for a way to stop the forced update reminders for a while.
It's insane that you can't stop this reminders easily and they are 'forcing' you to upgrade, specially when 2.3.6 seems to have so many issues as reported here and other forums.
I have an not rooted Prime here with no Jelly Bean goodness. I've tried multiple restarts, enabling netflix, and now the closest thing it will do to updating is say "check notification area". At that point it lies because there is no notification of a update about to download. Any suggestions? I really dont have the time to mess around with rooting, just want to know if there's a quick solution out there.

Tried searching, couldn't find it.
I tried to do the OTA update, but phone didn't find it. I want to run the search again, but I am getting the 'wait 24 hours' message. I know there are workarounds for this to be able to search again, but the only one I was able to find said to navigate to "device management" in settings > general > applications. My phone doesn't have an option in there called "device management." What am I looking for/where do I need to go to clear the cache to be able to search again before tomorrow?

I had the same issue and contacted LG support. They said they found an issue in the OTA update and needed to resolve it before distributing to some Optimus G phones. This was after waiting for the support rep for a while because he said he had to talk to his manager. He said we will receive the update notification as soon as it is available for our phones. Hopefully he's right. I don't want to wait 21 hours and 2 minutes to search for the update unsuccessfully. Here are some pics just in case from my phone.
jakmal is right. But for future reference, you can clear data/cache for "com.lge.lgfota.permission" and com"lge.omadmclient" to get around the 24 hr limit for the updates.

Changing the date forward comes with its own set of annoyances
I hope what tcozman says is true, but it sounds to me like standard cs-rep runaround speak for "we don't have any way to know why you haven't gotten it yet." The update is coming from AT&T, not LG, anyway.

Jakmal's method worked and I'm downloading currently.
I see those two processes listed, but when I open them, the option to clear the cache is unavailable. Were you suggesting that I clear through TiBu? I'm still stock and therefore can't use TiBu. Just for future reference, is there any other way to clear the cache of those other than TiBu?
