[Q] [HELP!] Random 0% Battery State - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since past 3-4 days, my phone randomly shuts down and doesn't turn back on. When I enter download mode, it says too low battery to download. Then, I charge my phone back to 100%, it drains very fast and when it reaches less than 40%, the screen flickers and it switches off. I've tried resetting the fuel gauge, have tried calibrating the battery. But it seems to reoccur everyday. Also, I noticed that it takes not more than 1.5 hours to charge now. It generally took 3 hours for a full charge. I've tried changing rom, kernel and modem. Currently on CM9, fluxi, KI4 modem.
Can someone please help me out on this? The strange thing is that it drains pretty fast and charges in less than 1.5 hour from 0 to 100!
TIA

Seems to be that one or more battery cells are faulty. Do you have another battery to test with?

If you got any chance to test it with another battery, do it, or buy a new one

If u changed kernels then its the battery.

Done all that. Nothing has helped. I just changed my rom. Came back to GB! The battery was 70%.. I was on the welcome screen, the screen flickered and it went off. It never used to flicker like this! :crying:

Then it works all fine! It only goes off when without the charger plugged in! And it shows random battery states, it's 70 right now and two minutes later it will be 73 or 37. I've reset the fuel gauge and all. Nothing seems to work!
The worst part is that it flickers! WHY?

It sounds like a battery fault, try seeing if a local phone shop would let you try one to test before you buy it maybe?

What do you mean by flicker? Could you do a video?

Have you tried to wiping the battery stats while fully charged and still on AC as suggested here:

Tried, but did not help, I even tried to charge it off to the most can not, but it did not help.
It is possible that you could have over discharged your battery at some point. If calibrating and the thread mentioned above did not do the trick, you may have a damaged lithium cell. Over discharging can cause weird things to happen to batteries often leading to their failure. Or, you could simply have a faulty battery, or even worse... failing hardware.
I'm not trying to scare you, I just thought this information might be useful to this thread. I hope you get it all resolved.

I agree. It sounds like a damaged battery. Have any of you ever drained your battery completely dead? If yes and you've done so often, you most likely damaged your battery. Lithium batteries should never be completely drained.

What ICS ROM are you running? Is it the OTA update for non-rooted tabs, or are you rooted and flashed one of the custom ICS ROMS? I agree with others that it sounds like a battery issue, but knowing which ROM you are running would be helpful.
It's an official ics but from diffrent region " i dont think it matters " ,, also i dont think my battery is dead because when it goes to 2% it stays like thaypt for hours of using, but when it was normal 2% lasts for less than half an hour

Is my battery damaged, or something else??

Seriously what is wrong with my cell?? I can not leave it idle/ put it to sleep! Whenever i do so, the battery meter drops to 0 and i can't even switch it on, without plugging in the charger and charging it for 5 minutes, after which the battery shoots to 100. Without letting it go idle, however, i can use it for 2-3 hours non-stop, during which it heats up a lot. Is the battery faulty, or something wrong with the cell itself?
I've tried changing the rom (stock to CM) but to no avail (nothing wrong with the rom)

Try resetting battery stats (that doesn't seem like it's the problem, as well as formatting system, wiping data, wiping cache, dalvic, voltage options (if you've even messed with those), and then booting up the phone once, turning it off, take the battery out for a couple minutes, put battery in (keep phone off), charge for 15-30 minutes, turn on, and see how everything looks then. If it seems to have resolved the problem, I suggest just turning your phone back off and charging it the rest of the way. If what I said above does not work, then your battery is probably ****ed, or possibly your phones battery connectivity port (idk too much about that). Since the problem persists on both stock and CM I'd say it's very likely to be your battery. Try buying a new OEM battery if what I said does not work. They're usually 30-45. You can buy cheapo ones too (probably won't damage your phone like others say - enough to care), but expect them to be a lot less efficient/weaker.

That's is very weird.
I don't want to conclude that your battery is faulty.
I think the reading is anyway inaccurate.
Try the following:
-We need to check the battery health.
-Dial *#*#4636#*#* on your phone
-select battery information
-tell me what you see under battery health

lol'd at the screenshot, yea check the battery health and reset your fuel gauge chip.

Good.
Now let's try these steps:
-flash latest Siyah kernel (if you are already on Siyah, skip this step)
-Download "extweaks" from market
-disconnect your phone from charger
-open extweaks Grant it Su access.
-goto under Misc and select "reset fuel gauge chip"
-Close extweaks
Wait for some minutes (with screen off) and let me know what happens

I think he mentioned he'd already tried that. Considering his battery health and everything seems to be fine, I'm wondering if it's somehow the transfer between battery and phone, though it seems very unlikely. I'm sure he'll post once he tries the new OEM battery

Battery problems after fleshing custom rom

Hello. I got a lot of problems with my battery. It was all fine until i rooted and flsahed a custom rom. I flsahed jellybam and wiped cache data battrey stats and everything before. I get a lot of random shut downs and reboots and battery percentage drops. Sometimes its at for example 80% and i don't use it its in my pocket and it just shuts down. Or it sais it has 30% 40% and i receive a call or sms and it gets to 1% and shuts down and when i turn it on it has again 30 40% or slowly gets to that percentage. I tried aokp, jellybam, rainbow rom (something like that) rootbox and tried dorimanx and siyah kernel. Now i went back to stock rom and krenel but the problems are still there. I attached a pic of my batt stats so pls if anyone knows what could be the problem please help.
Edit: i tried calibrating the battery with an app and manualy shutting down the phone charging the phone to 100% and remove the battery a few minutes but that didn't change a thing

Sorry for the late reply i had some other stuff going around. I tried resetting the fuel gauge chip with extweeks while on siyah kernel and that didn't change anything, i tried a few more roms and kernels but the problem remains. Now i am on resurection remix 4.0.4 rom with flexy kernel and i tried reseting the fuel gauge chip with xxtweeks and again nothing changed. I guess this is a problem with the phone becouse with different roms/kernels the problem is the samo. Lately its getting worse. The phone is on the table with 80% battery and i just hear the low battery sound and when i unlock it its on 12%, and than goes to 5% and lower and shuts down. After restart it has again around the normal 80% for example. Also one day i charged it to 100% and as soon i unpluged the charger it dropped to 0% and shut down. Could it be the battery or is something seriously wrong with the phone? Thx in advance

Could be the battery.
Just try another battery from which you know it is working in your phone, and then try your 'faulty' battery in a phone from which you know it is working. This way you will know at least if it is the phone or the battery.
Thanks for thr replay. I guess i‘ll just buy a new battery and see how that goes because i don't have a spare s2 and battery to try

[Q] Sgs2 weird battery problem

Hi im new to the XDA and have a very weird problem. I have a rooted SGS2 running Task650 aokp jellybean 4.1.2 siyah kernel. I have several problems. My first problem is that my phone wont charge correctly. It charges but it starts to drain after it is fully charged. So over night around 5 am it is fully charged but it drains super fast so its around 72% at about 7am. After playing around taking the battery out putting it back in it has another problem. It charges for 2 or 3 mins then it jumps back and forth between charging and not charging. After trying about 3 days it charges correctly. So for about a week it works and then it starts back up. I would like to try to soft reset it but unlike its stock rom it doesnt soft reste by holding HOME+POWER. I have tried hard reset.unrooting, different charges, and different batteries. Please link me or give me an answer thanks in advance.
ps i have tried wiping battery stats and will it notify me in a email when someone post a commet

[Q] Phone keeps shutting itself off, what to do?

Hello everyone,
for a month now my Samsung galaxy S2 has been randomly shutting itself off. It always happens with the same pattern:
The signal suddenly drops to non-exsitent, then nothing reacts and finally everything goes black.I can maximally use my phone for about 5min but it stays alive for the whole day if I don't touch it.
Also when I switch it on again after it shut itself off a lot of battery life is lost, e.g I have full battery -> it shuts itself off -> I only have 50%.
Do you have any ideas about what I could do?
I thought it might have been a problem with ICS and therefore updated to Jelly Bean but the problem persisted...
Thanks for your help!
Sounds like a power problem. Have you tried a new battery? Could be hardware as you have ruled out software.
I had a similar (not exactly the same) problem on a friends s2. It was on full stock, never been 'messed with'.
To fix that, I flashed NeatROM & a new modem. Now it gets a lot better signal, and doesn't freeze up. It may be a long shot but possibly worth a go.
First though, do what Andrew says :good:
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
I'm currently having very similar issues......I take the phone off charge at 100%, do a little web browsing or make a call / send a text......and then the phone freezes and becomes totally unresponsive....then finally shuts off.
I reboot the phone and the battery percentage shows anything from 2% to 50% remaining. It's NOT the software.....I've changed from stock to cm10 to cm10.1 and reflashed various nandroids without making a difference......
The ONLY thing that stops it happening is to swap out the stock battery for my spare (high capacity 2000mAh) battery....so for me, it's definitely battery related.....
I'm expecting a new one in the post any day now......
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Doesn't sound like much fun Keith. Let us know how you go when it comes. It's sounding like a completely different problem to the one I fixed, although it had similar symptoms.
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
No....not much fun.....but I had this issue with my galaxy W too....so I'm kinda used to it....lol
With the W, I'd get to the stage where the phone would (just about) fully boot.....and then shut down....
Just had a look at the S2s battery and it seems to be swelling which is ANOTHER indication of a borked battery.......
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Hope so for your sake! Replacing the battery is a heck of a lot easier than finding a magic fix for a SOD which seems to randomly occur.
A couple weeks back or so there was a guy who's battery connection was sketchy between the battery and contacts, is your connection ok?

Yeah...battery contacts are good....new battery arrived about an hour ago...it's being charged up (external charger) and then I'll see if the problems have gone......
