I bought a Galaxy S III (Sprint) today to replace my HTC EVO 3D and for some reason its nagging me about setting up my device to comply with the IT security policy for my Exchange account (on Office 365). This is weird because there are no IT security policies in place. I have this account on my EVO 3D, an android tablet, an iPad and a Windows Phone and none of them have ever prompted me about a IT security policy. In fact, when I try to go ahead and let it comply on this Galaxy S III it gives some error saying it can't do it for whatever reason. The policy obviously doesn't exist but the S III is still trying to force it.
Any ideas?
believe this will work for you
Unzip to computer plug the phone in and run the apply-patch.cmd file. http://db.tt/b6Svh2HB java needs to be installed but this is the only thing that ever worked on 4.0.4 for me

So this is a known issue? Is there any other way to get around the policy? I'd really hate to start off a new phone with custom fixes
You could always purchase Enhanced Email, it has worked for me to bypass IT Security restrictions. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qs.enhancedemail&hl=en

i actually use it to bypass the restriction on the servers side. ur issue seems odd but cant say for sure. and its not doin anything crazy just patchin ur email app to skip the sec. checks
Solved, but looks like I may have caused the problem. I simply deleted and re-added the Exchange account, but this time I didn't freak out and hit Cancel when first prompted about the IT security policies - I just hit OK. Now the account is added and it doesn't nag about the policy thing. I guess hitting Cancel got it stuck in a weird loop.
Also, I was having various connectivity issues with Office 365 servers in the last 24 hours so that may have contributed to the problem too.
Thanks everyone for you help! It's funny how one little problem can ruin your whole experience - now I actually feel comfortable keeping the S III instead of exchanging it for the EVO 4G LTE.

A VERY strange bug (not sure if its ATandT or Moto related)
occurs with Atrix phones that are unlocked and used in Canada (Fido, Rogers) etc.
Some callers, even if they are saved in the address book show up as
'PayPhone' calling, making it impossible to know who it is
A temp fix is to call our provider and remove 'Name Display' which is a feature that shows peoples names even if they are not added. But this feature has never conflicted with any Android phone I have ever owned (many). So it is a unique issue
More info:

Where would I look into fixing this issue, anyone have any starters?
Thanks!
Does Bell have name display as an option?

Yeah this is really annoying for me aswell
I haven't found a fix yet and might just have to switch to basic caller id

I had the same issue. It is not a bug related to 'Canada'. I am on Fido and had this problem. The issue was that I had 3 email accounts all sync'ing contacts and some how things got messed up.
Here is what I did to fix it.
1. Format the phone.
2. Add ONLY 1 email account at a time.
3. Make a test call between each new email account addition to ensure the caller id works.
4. Ensure only syncing contacts from one email account.
That worked for me. GOod luck.
That can't possibly be true, if you don't have contacts in your address book, it still says pay phone
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I found this issue so annoying, I called Rogers and removed the name display - it's costing me $4 more to have these things not in a package, but man it is good to know who is calling.
Not for Bell users.. been using the Atrix since the 3rd day after US launch, and I've never had that issue.
I've had it show both payphone and the proper name/number... weird
ya it seems bell is safe
and i only have one account vampire 32 so it cant be true
so noone knows ne hack or nethign we can change
I called rogers and I hate them, I get the value pack for free so they can't do anything about the separate basic caller Id

Nothing to do with email accounts - this happens even when you do not have any contacts set up. The Motorola guys confirm it as an issue with Name Display with Caller ID.
ya they (fido) told me its in my paid plan so they cant disable it
im like its an extra feature if anything i shud save money by disabling it so just do it
there like no its included
are these guys retarded
this is such a crappy problem, a first for my android phones

why this phone tho, why at and t?
ive had many androids before, many moto phones
WITH name display
never had a problem. Clearly it is a unique error they must fix
except motorola doesnt probably care
i might actually get rid of the phone because of this, its annoying like hell and i am not paying more per month to get callerID working
Just as an FYI if you're changing your account on Rogers... they will likely reset your contract to re-start the 3 years on the day you change
*yay* Rogers.
the more i read about the atrix the more i think i might of made a mistake buying this phone and i havent even used it yet(in the mail). this might be the deal breaker though. so this happens to all att atrix on rogers/fido? what is basic caller id, does it just show the number without name? hopefully this can be solved.

I'm okay with that providing they extend everything I have including my 6GB data pack and my, retentions derived, voice pack.
EDIT: looks like the price went up a little due to the change, but no indication of contract term.

they dont reset your contract for altering name display. i just called and asked them to disable it and they were fine with it. i have it as part of an iphone feature bundle and i asked them to disable it, not delete it and they did it within two minutes.
just be nice when you ask and you should not have an issue.

It could be. Some things they do others they dont. I called once to increase my data plan. They reset my contract. When I called to complain they said it was because I was getting better service. Complained enough to get it set back, now I'm warry every time I make a change
Funny that I am reading this wondering where you all got your devices from in the first place as I've been looking to buy.
But yes the best bet is to make the change and then call back in a day to make sure nothing got screwed up with your contract.
I am attaching the Mail.apk that comes with the Thunderbolt and begging someone who is up to the challenge to mod it and allow the removal of the device admin so I don't have to put in a password every 15 min. I hav.e searched and every patched Mail.apk for the desire doesn't work. I totally need this as I am sure that others will too. Your work will be legendary.
That would be so awesome.
On a side note...Why does Sense only let you sync 3 days with MS exchange? I have always synced 7 or 30 days with my other android phones.....Mytouch 3g, G2, and my Nexus 1
I don't think that it has to do with the Mail.apk as I can synk up tp thirty days. I just have to deal with the password issue. So in the mean time I am using touchdown.
Search market for lockpicker app. It bypasses the exchange policy that makes you enter your password. It's a sense thing. And this app was made for it.

Says it does not work with Froyo
The people in security at your work will hate you for this. It's there for a reason. You lose your phone and work data escapes... you can be jailed and fined (depending on the data)
I work for a company that has to be hippa compliant and mass HI-TECH compliant. We don't even allow android devices to connect because of things like the lack of device encryption.

It's far worse than what my employer's IT implemented...
Our Exchange policies haven't changed (I know many people at work who are setup to receive email + calendar from our corporate exchange server, nothing changed).
I only have to enter a pin ever ~30mins. Then I upgrade my Cappy to froyo and setup the exchange account again. NOW I have to re-enter it every time my screen blanks (timeout), even for 1 second.
This is froyo mail app folks, not my employer's Exchange settings. they didn't change, my email client did.
I want it back the old way. Not to mention calendar only synchs ~5% of my meetings now. crappy appy on my Cappy!
Alright try this on for size....
I cannot add a contact
I added one manually yesterday and it worked fine....BUT..I cannot add another.
Period.
It acts as if the contact list is write protected *somehow*
I rooted just fine.
No 4G issues at all.
I'm tethered using "wireless tether" as I type this on my lappy...no problemo.
I removed the sim card thinking that might help.
I installed ROM manager and tried to use the "fix permissions" but it will not run (and yes I gave it super user permissions) it acts as if *something* is write protected.
I have a Vcard file with all my previous phones contacts in it but I really do not want to import it untill I resolve this issue.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Possibly just let me know where contacts are stored so I can do a adb chmod on the damn folder ?
Did u try adding them to your gmail and syncing them?
Problem solved.
Went into the Sprint store (large corporate place) and *every-friggin-employee* had to come over to get it figured out.
Some very hard to get to setting was disabling contacts being dispayed.
I have no idea what it was or how to change the setting....at least 8 Sprint people were passing it back and forth so I couldn't see exactly what was done.
The techs final answer?
Uhhmm...dude, it's a business phone so it has really tight security.
Seriously ?
If I wanted corporate level security I would have gotten a blackberry ya freakin tool !
I think (honestly) that even they had not faced this issue and it was by chance that they corrected it.
Anyone know if there's a fix for this? I don't know if it's from the upgrade or if exchange is just #%& in ICS, but...kind of a hassle, and the whole phone hangs while it's trying to connect to my two exchange accounts...
Cheers!

Exchange support is buggy with lpb. Using a 3rd party client (I.e. enhanced email) is a good work around.

Found the problem. Seems there was some kind of error when upgrading, and the security stuff got messed up. Removed the exchange account with the most security restrictions, and suddenly mail poured into the other one. Re-added the first, and it worked.
At least you'll know if the problem's still there on the official rom
I'm currently running XXLPJ (Via Westcrip's Resurrection Remix ROM) and Exhchange Services repeatedly hangs and makes the phone unusable.
I have frozen Exchange Services using Titanium Backup and the problem stops.
My question is, I don't use any Exchange mail so it's not important to me but does anything else in ICS depend upon Exchange Services running that might cause other issues?
Hey all, I need some help.
I left my Prime in the seat back pocket of an airplane and when i immediately went bak on the plane to get it it was gone! I unlocked the bootloader so devicetracker.asus.com isn't helping me at all. I didn't have any other tracking software on my prime.

Why don't you sign into the google play store, push mobile lookout to your tablet, and see if you can auto track it that way. I'm not sure if you have to setup the app first which would make this procedure pointless, but worth a shot.

Lookout sign in, and press INSTALL. Better hope it has an active WIFI signal else it won't install until it does.

You know, thats a very good idea, but i think you need to setup lookout on your prime the first time you install to set up tracking, last time i checked that is, I think that goes for all apps,
I think a developer would make killing if they managed to create an app that can do what you suggested
Edit: Never mind, thanks victorvasconcelos ^^^
Hope someone figures something out for you OP, because thats a damn shame, good luck

You're not getting it back.
Android Lost is another great app for this type of situation. You can push it to your Prime via tha Play store website and then use the Android Lost web interface to hide the app from your Lapp draweraking it harder to notice and uninstall.
Also from the Android Lost web interface you can force the device to take photos using either camera which will then be emailed to an address of your choice. It can also track the device via GPS and you can lock and password protect the device remotely. Of course all of this requires an active data connection, but it is pretty useful.

None of those will work if the person who nabbed it has wiped it or changed the google account on it.
I hope you get it back, but as one that left a palm pilot in a seat from a 13hr flight from Japan, I do not see good luck in your future for this.
Lookout won't work even if you install it through PC. You would still have to once downloaded run it and sign up/activate it all. There's no other way since you didn't prepare your tablet for the worse case scenario. Consider it gone

Lookout has an app called Plan B. Install it from the Play Store from your PC, and it will auto activate when it finally downloads. It will attempt to locate itself and send you the coordinates to your GMail account. Of course Wifi has to be active, and connected to a network, and the precision of the location is dependant on how good your GPS is, or how many WiFi networks it can see.
As for the Asus Device Locator, boot unlocker does not disable this, only a non-Asus Rom will. I am running a rooted .21 stock ROM on my unlocked Prime, and I can locate my device on the Asus site. If you have stock ROM and the device locater will not connect, its possible the WiFi is off and/or the Prime has no data connection to any Wifi network. The nice thing about the locator is that if it is found, you can activate the "ringer", which on the prime just makes it emit a loud sound. Handy if you are in the area of the device. I have not tested remote wipe nor lock device.
maybe a stupid question but.....
I don't think you mentioned this and this may be a stupid question but Have you gone to the airport or airline to see if someone turned it in to lost and found?

Possible, but lets assume that their an android noob for now, what i'd be concerned about is whether they have a charger or not, as you'll probably have to wait until they get round to charging it before you can do something, OP should take that into account if hes not getting a reply
Question, do you have a credit card saved on your playtore or anything, if so did you set up keylock?

Plan B was already linked on 1st page, as for Plan B I have personally tried it after READING it on the 1st page. My Prime is in a office GPS is on connected to our wifi and multiple wifi's around. Plan B installed but no e-mails after 10min so far. I think it relies too much on GPS for location, as it seems to be designed more for phones with cell coverage.
"After you install it, Plan B will start locating your phone using cell towers and GPS. On some phones, Plan B can switch GPS on automatically. Your location will keep updating for 10 minutes."
So you can try Plan B but don;t count on it as I am sitting next to my prime with Plan B on it and I have no idea where it is?
Also as I stated before if the gmail account has been removed or changed, you are not getting any software pushed from the play store onto your tablet.

I disagree, always prepare for the worst.
Forget the account begin removed, Tablet taken stuck in workers locker, driven home then turned on, Chance of an open wifi not good.
Plan B does not seem to work well on prime from my experience so far.
If the person who nabbed it is stupid enough to take it hook it up to their own home wifi and start messing with it before wiping it, they deserve to get caught.
I hope for the best, but I do not see it working out that easy. It would have been easier if it were a phone or if the software was on there from the start.
Good luck and keep us posted.
I would stick with Asus Device Locator as long as you were running a stock ROM. A wipe can't change the serial number. If the unit is off, has Wifi off, or is in an area with no wifi, none of these other apps are going to work anyway.
The sad news is that without Wifi, the Prime could never report is location even if a locator app was on it running.
The good thing about the asus devicetracker is that even if they remove your Google account or factory reset the device you can still track it.

Simply start the program. Thats it! If you don't have your phone nearby, you may remotely start the app by sending an SMS with the text "androidlost register" to your mobile.
From their website, looks like you need to have had it pre-installed, or a sms capable setup.
