Flash to XXLPQ and root that
its easy

cant find anything on here am new to this

Give us your build number. Baseband = modem.

Just flash Siyah kernel with Odin. The easiest way!

check the link below read the op of the same carefully and also see the installation guide in the same, follow the same to pinpoint perfection and ur phone will be rooted with litening rom installed thro ODIN
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
ps- if u cant understand the same and confused still then i would advice u not to venture into rooting and keep the phone as it is
since not understanding fully about rooting methods and trying the same is foolishness and u could brick ur phone

So al i do is download litening custom rom
Then connect my s2
Then fire up odin then click pda
Then look for the litening custom rom.Making sure auto reboot and f rest time is ticked
then press start wait till it turns green then it will boot up dts it custom rom installed

[Q] What do I require before ' Flashing a ROM ' ?

Question as thread title.
I am a noob to all this rooting flashing, rom, odin stuff.
I've read about it as much as possible,
But when i actually head to the dev section, all i see is 2.3.4 or 2.3.5
But im living in singapore, and so far, i'm only living with 2.3.3
So the question is, if for example i see, Litening Rom 6.1,
and i see 2.3.4, does that mean i cant 'Flash' it into my phone?
Do i need 2.3.4 before flashing it?
Help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Nope, you can flash any Rom you like.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
so when it says 2.3.4 , if i flash it, I'll get the features of 2.3.4?

yes that is correct
the other thing I see is that the roms are based on XXKH3 etc etc, but I'm on something like DXKI2, what do I have to do?

Follow Chainfire's instructions exactly and you'll be fine. Any further questions, best to direct them to his forum.
After the matching CF-root kernel is flashed, you will have superuser and his custom recovery installed, then can then flash any custom rom placed on your sdcard via cwm recovery
Edit: also good links to info beaten to out by JJ,..... Again

you will find the guide on how to install a rom, in the thread of the rom you want to flash.
at the beginning of the original development right at the top there are guides on how to root and how to flash..
if you want any help just give me a message and what i know i will advice you
use this link first though

EDIT: looks like JJE beat me to it
Hey guys, thanks for all the info. So basically what i gotta do first is to use CF-root to first root my phone?
Then i use cwm to do a backup, followed by flashing any rom with odin?
Yes but its follow the instructions for the relevant rom not flash any rom through Odin . Most custom roms are CWM flashes .
jje
CF-rooting my phone, right now my kernel version says : DXKI2
so if i download the file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4-42-v4.2-CWM4.zip
would this be correct?
and i see that this file is CF-Root v4.2, SU 3.0, "insecure"
meaning is has superuser , but what does insecure mean?
should i download a secure one?
sorry for being a lil' troublesome..
Make sure you backup your efs folder

Start reading on how to root and installing kernel with CWM Recovery. SGS kernel and recovery parttions are the same.
Easiest way is flash Chainfire's CF-Root kernel with Odin here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
There are many other ways; Intratech has a quick root guide in post #1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Read, read and read some more until your confident to do it. Otherwise don't.
Please also read the "Stickies" in each forum and FAQ etc and search for answers BEFORE posting.
Best of luck
And if you really want to try ice cream sandwich, i will advice you to go with cm9 first as it delivers the smoothest of the experience with almost no force closes or random reboots. You arr aware of the fact that you are going to flash an expermental build right. Its not stable for daily use yet.

First time flashing a rom .

Hi all ,
I have currently on android ics 4.0.3 XXLP2 stock firmware .
I wanted to flash a rom . Mayb myhegen rom or dynamic rom .
I know there is clear instruction there .
Jus wanted to know , i can straight follow the instruction there or i need to flash the rom's android version (XWLP4) then follow the instruction.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my GT-I9100 .
You can flash whatever rom you like over your existing rom. But follow the instructions for the rom you're going to flash to the letter; for example if it says to do a factory reset, do a factory reset, etc, etc.
root with flahing C-F root : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
then from CWM recovery you can flash...
Ok so i dont need to flash 4.0.3 XWLP4 stock firmware using odin ?
My android XXLP2 version has already rooted wif cf root .
Now i jus follow the instructions ?
Thanks again.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

Done all of that backup . But im afraid i'll get wierd thing like kernel panic mode .
Why would that happen ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I had massive problems first time when i flashed, if you hit any bumps and cant start the phone after flashing, what i did was i flashed stock and then siyah kernel, put files on phone, boot to recovery and clear all data before flashing, that did the trick for my first flash
Hope you have a good time flashing and playing with your phone !

2. how can i downgrade to 4.0.3
Download 4.0.3 from sammobile and flash through Odin. Then flash Siyah or Dorimanx kernel.
Sent from my potato running a potato.
You should spend a bit of time researching before you attempt anything. If you dont then youll be back on here whingeing about bootloop or Odin doesnt work....or bricked.
What is the point of telling you to flash a rooted kernel via Odin if youve not read the tutorials.
Or root, then flash a safe kernel using stock recovery>cwm.
And at the moment you are on firmware that could lead to a bricked phone if you do the wrong thing.

In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270 you can find your appropriate kernel, but you need to choose the right one, because the latest kernels are for JellyBean only.
No, you don't need Odin/heimdall and you don't' need a PC even if it's better to have one at hand when it comes to issues.
One hint: read and try to understand everything before flashing. If you are unsure, ask, otherwise there is a chance to brick the device, especially with 4.0.4 stock (-> brick bug)

btw im going to flash the latest jellybam on i9100 so will siyah have any problem regarding the ROM ? i mean will there be any lag or something ?
CWM matters, not the kernel you're actually on.
Of course if you're on 4.0.4's kernel you can't wipe.
